I think this is the best Thai food in Chicago. The flavor of each dish is clean, distinctive, and authentic. They use more fresh herbs than I'm accustomed to seeing in Thai food. Their Tom Yum soup is the best I've ever had. I've eaten at all of Chicago's great Thai restaurants, including one that's three times the price, and In-On Thai tops them all. The owners are very kind. The handsome young husband (late 30s or early 40s) is the chef and his gracious wife runs the front of house and makes the soups. Really great food at great value! My go to here is pad Thai a little spicy, pad see-u, and crispy chicken wings. We came an hour and 15 before closing and were told we needed to order everything at once, The women huffed glared and stompped away when we said we just wanted to start with the app. We asked for everything to be spicy, nothing was spicy, the Rangoons had literally no filling, they were flat, and it was the first Tom kha I've ever hated - it had an overpowering sour lemongrass flavor. The cherry on top was when she tried to take away our still full drink glasses, I had to cover them with my had and say we're still finishing those. She started sweeping, glaring, putting chairs on tables and locked the door at 8:15. We picked this place to enjoy our byob wine bottle but instead got treated horribly, given bad food, and rushed out without even finishing the bottle. They use to be located near Lakeview East until they were forced to close as most of their block was torn down for massic reconstruction. It took them a couple of years to relocate and they finally landed here in Uptown! Pad Thai (with Chicken) $10.50: My husband adores Pad Thai and can't get enough of it here at In-On Thai. He likes that it's light and has lots of meat. The few comments we have are we wish there was bit more noodles and flavor. I got a Pad Thai (with Tofu) for take out once and it lacked in flavor. Panang Curry (with Chicken) $11.00: Boy, they like it hot! Make sure to ask for Mild, as I didn't think it'd be sooo spicy. But every bite I took I was dripping from my nose and my lips turned red from the spice. Maybe bring it down a bit? From looking at the other reviews, it looks like this restaurant relocated recently. I'm sure that was a stressful process for them, but I, for one, am lucky they did! Located near the Wilson Red Line (and Target!!), the new location looks unassuming from the street, but packs a huge flavor punch. They focus on central Thailand's dishes, so there's a great focus on seafood. If you're looking to try something beyond the classic pad thai, definitely stop by (although they have that too, so bring your picky friend/wife/grandma) We got so much food! We started with both the green bean and the beef salads. They were so good! The beef was spicy, tender yumminess. I'm not usually a fan of green beans, but the salad was great. The beans were chopped up and tossed in goodies. Great way to start the meal! The chef gave us a free order of a new dish they're trying out, Chinese broccoli in a savory sweet sauce with pork cracklings. It was amazing! The flavor balance was on point. The sweetness in the sauce worked so well in the broccoli. Like I said, we had so much food! For our entrees we got the "secret" fried rice with roast pork. The presentation was gorgeous, the portion was generous, and the taste was amazing. It was a more nuanced fried rice than I'd had before. In addition we had a spicy curry crispy roast fish from the chef special's page in the menu. It burned so good! Red-hot and full of flavor because--brace yourself--they make their own curry pastes. My spicy basil chicken stir fry was maybe 3 stars but the crab rangoons (our table's favorite! So good!) elevated our experience to 4. I wanted there to be more in the stir fry, like bamboo shoots and bell peppers, like I've had in other Thai places. I wanted a little more flavor, but it came with a lot of food! We happened by this restaurant on the day after they opened, when the original place we were heading to was too busy. And boy, am I glad. Even on their 2nd day in business, In-On Thai provided us with some of the most delicious thai food I've ever had. They make all of their sauces, curry pastes, etc. from scratch, which means that there is no MSG in any of their stuff - a godsend for my friends who are allergic. I had their red curry, which was incredibly flavorful. The sauce for the chicken satay was also delicious, and the shrimp dish was PERFECTLY cooked and filled with plump, delicious shrimps. This is a small and pretty place on N Broadway ave. My husband and I dropped by on a Saturday for dinner. The place was quiet and not too crowded. We usually go to Thai places because the rice-Curry combination is very similar to Indian food and there is a good possibility of finding something vegetarian. Ordered Thai ice coffee, fried tofu starter ,panang Curry and masaman Curry. We loved the ice coffee! The masaman Curry has coconut milk base and slightly on the sweeter side, overall it tasted good. Knocking off one star because before placing the order we asked if they could make everything , specially curries without fish/oyster sauce. They did acknowledge to make it separately since the sauces are already prepared. We even confirmed once the dishes arrived. But the panang Curry had a strong fish sauce smell. I really want to believe it was something else and not fish sauce but the smell was pretty strong to ignore for me. This is the best Thai restaurant in uptown hands down. I was a consistent and faithful customer of Siam noodle, but I've switched and don't feel any guilt or regret. I will say that my favorite pad see ew is made with collard greens at Siam, and this place only offers broccoli. Terrible substitution. They should really order collard greens because it makes the dish. My daughter is not as big as a fan because this food is a lot more authentic. Very spicy if you ask correctly. I love extremely spicy food and this place will give you authentic level spice if you ask. Most places only offer "American" version of spicy, but this is the real deal. Their food is beautiful even in to go containers. Healthy portions ands the quality is unmatched. It's appropriately priced imo, but you won't spend under $50 here if you order for more than 3. Delivery is fast, the to go containers are well constructed ( you can use for Tupperware) and the food is still warm. I would not order the dumplings again. Waste of money and not very good. One of the best spots for Thai in Uptown area and Chicago entirely. Think homestyle/aunty/comfy food + restaurant eye for detail and sourcing. They are fantastic with the classics that American palates love. It's actually criminal how good the papaya salad (sour, crunchy, spicy!), tom yum (definitely on the sour-er end), and pad kee mao are. Special, special shout out to the spring rolls. Maybe you're like me, Asian and would never order spring rolls for takeout because cmon now lol, never as good as home. BUT this is me encouraging you to suspend that hesitation and order at least 2 orders!! Each comes with 4 mega-stuffed crispy babies and ofc, sweet Thai chili sauce. Be prepared to conveniently crave them in the middle of the night :(. Aside from that, their menu is also impressively full of dishes that let you taste the wide range of Thai cuisine. I'm a fan of their fish dishes: fish with young pepper & fish with jungle salad are both skillfully prepared, moist, and generally there's enough to save for a 2nd meal. All of the salads will convert anyone staunchly into piping hot entrees; my favorite would be the ground pork salad! This place is very hard to review. I ordered the Tom Kha Gai with shrimp (they brought the chicken version by mistake first, even though I very clearly said shrimp) and it was unbelievably sour. It was practically like sipping straight lemon juice. No coconut milk flavor whatsoever. I traveled around Thailand for a month some years ago, and have eaten at dozens and dozens of Thai restaurants in Chicago, and I've never before had Tom Kha Gai that was so sour it was completely inedible. On the other hand, maybe this is what authentic Tom Kha Gai is supposed to taste like, and every other version of the dish has been adjusted for the Western palate. That's why I'm giving this place 3 stars instead of 1. Oh, and I rang the doorbell several times to be let in and I was ignored. (I'm dressed normally and don't look like a criminal!) I never write reviews but I absolutely have to for this restaurant. Ordered pick up for the first time a few weeks ago. They called soon after we left with our order to let us know there had been a mistake and they fixed it immediately. They even followed up a second time to apologize and make sure everything was correct. The mistake was so minor (chicken instead of pork) and delicious we never would have noticed. I was blown away by the hospitality and even more so by the food. Everything is amazing from noodles to curry to the crispy fish. We can't wait to try everything on the menu. SO GOOD! Amazing food from this family run restaurant. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to spice, but I LOVE their masaman curry, pad thai and pad see ew. And when I'm brave, their panang curry is also so good. For apps, the curry puffs are not to be missed - great pastry and an excellent savory curry filling. Yum. The service can sometimes be a little slow -  so just sit back and enjoy your BYOB from the liquor store literally next door. The food comes out as soon as it's ready and is always fresh and hot and so very tasty. I usually order takeout and it delivers super fast. I dined in on 3/2 and you do have to buzz to be let in and the buzzer wasn't working that well so it took us a second to get in - but it was worth every second. Love this place. We found this place just a few months ago, and it rocks! Expect a more true-to-Thai rendition of dishes than an Americanized Thai place. Crispy fish with tamarind sauce (plum sauce?) was great for eat-in (this was probably January). I'm not a fan of crispy things for takeout - so for takeout I'd recommend the baked special seafood red curry and the spicy BBQ pork fried rice. These are addictive! Tom kha soup was also good. This is the best Thai restaurant in the city right now, without question. We are blessed in Chicago with wonderful spots like Immm, Aroy, Andy's, Rainbow, Ghin Kao, etc, but none of them can compare to the quality of food at In-On. The restaurant's speciality is curry, so I would recommend any of them - green is my favorite. They also have a wonderful version of pad prikh khing described on the menu as chicken and green bean in red curry paste. Other standouts are pad see ew, crispy fish, crispy chicken salad (special), sai oua, pad thai, curry puff (special). Service is also unfailingly kind. Truly a wonderful restaurant and a great addition to Uptown. They are still open during the COVID-19 crisis, and practicing great social distancing with a clean and sanitary pickup. read more

My girlfriend and I ordered to go from In-On-Thai yesterday and were not disappointed. We ended up picking it up since they don't deliver to downtown Chicago. We split the Pad See Ew, the Panang Curry, and the Papaya Salad. Unfortunately my girlfriend doesn't like spice, so we had to get all three dishes mild, but I really enjoyed all 3. Papaya Salad - really nice tangy flavor. Papaya has a nice texture and I really enjoyed the peanuts, and green beans. Pad See Ew - traditional and very tasty. My girlfriend thought it was a little sweet (probably because it was mild lol) but it was one of the best I have had Panang Curry - really really good flavor. We got shrimp in it and it was a little harder than I like plus I also would have liked a few more veggies in there but a really good dish with a great flavor I will definitely be back. Driving through the city I'm often struck by the number of Thai restaurants I see. I've thought about going out and trying some - but where does one start? Well an email I received today from another review website led me to try In-On Thai today - and I was happy I did. I arrived at the place a little after 4:30 and was met at the (locked) door by one of the owners - she asked me if I was there for take out, but I told her I'd be dining in so she promptly sat me. Nine tables in the place, though they could probably fit one or two more without cramping too much. Clean, modern, contemporary look - a little different than most Thai places I've visited in the past. Usually I'll order Chicken Pad Thai as that's my standard order and is a good point of comparison to use with other Thai restaurants I've patronized. However, this place had some pretty unique looking dishes too and the review I had read featured many of them, so I took a different path from my ordinary entrée. I did see Tod Mun on the specials board and decided to try theirs along with an order of Chicken Puffs, which was one of the items in the review. The chicken puffs were a bit like small empanadas with a bunch of mild Thai curry flavor. As I was enjoying those, she brought out the Tod Mun and set them on the table. They looked a little darker than most I've seen, but I didn't say anything as I figured it was how the place usually cooked them. About a minute after leaving them, but before I had even touched the she came back and said she thought they had been cooked too long and was going to replace them. They came out fairly quickly and I gave them a try. As good as any I have had before - without a doubt. For my entrée I decided to get the In-On Thai Crispy Fish. This is fried tilapia with a thick, spicy (but not real hot) curry that is topped with lightly fried basil leaves. What a unique dish - really fully flavored. There was a part of me that wanted to order a Tamarind Shrimp dish to take home, but I though that reheating it might not do it justice, so I'll just have to go back there and try it in the store. I've been to slightly less expensive Thai places - my order for the three items came to $29 plus tax; but it was money well spent. Glad I checked this place out - what a pleasure! read more

Absolutely rude and terrible service. My partner and I were so excited to try this place as we love Thai food. The website said they opened at 3pm and we arrive at 3:04 after seeing someone else walk in. When we got to the door it said we needed to ring the bell to get in. As we did a man looked at us and walked away. Then a women come around the corner and waved us off. Very confused we stood there and waited and she came back and waved us off again. If they weren't open, that's totally fine. But to be waved off not once, but twice was terribly rude and dismissive. She could have or he could have come to the door and simply said they weren't open instead of waving us off. Still very perplexed by what just happened. read more

My first visit, I tried a chef's special, the Mee-Krob. It wasn't "sweet and sour," it was just sweet, with the noodles all stuck together and the tofu dried out. And very few shrimp and very little tofu so it was a pile of sweet crispy noodles. I haven't tried this dish at other restaurants, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I wouldn't order it again.
