I'm a real member at In-Shape California, and I really enjoy being part of this gym. The facilities are great, the atmosphere is welcoming, and there are plenty of classes to choose from. The staffs (Brian, Mahin, Eric, Jesse, Joe, Ruben, Maya, Veronica, Lala, Melani, and Maria) are really great! I especially want to give a shoutout to Bianca, the Zumba instructor! She is incredibly dedicated, passionate, and full of energy. She always gives 100% and makes every class fun and motivating. You can truly feel how much she loves what she does. Bianca is a world-class Zumba instructor, and having an instructor like her makes me look forward to coming to the gym. She is definitely one of the reasons I enjoy being a member here! read more

I've been coming to this In Shape for years! I've attended classes, did the treadmill, sat in the sauna, and my little girl has stayed in the kidzone before as well. The room where they do Zumba and Bodypump is huge. The instructors are great, I attended Berto's class last night, and he was great! I can't wait to attend another Zumba class of his! The check-in staff is always so friendly. They always greet me when I walk in and say bye when I walk out. VTL training goes on right in the middle by check-in, so it is pretty loud. After a class, sometimes a friend and i like to sit at a table at the front to relax and talk, and it's hard because the VTL has their music really loud. read more

I really like Cynthia! She's a great Aquafit instructor and so much fun. She's always switching up the routine too so it's never boring. However, sometimes she has us move from one side of the pool to the other, which can be a little difficult if it's full of people. The last time I was there though the hot tub was closed off and the family bathroom was also closed off. In the Women's locker room one of the showers couldn't be turned on, another couldn't be shut off and the water was running cold. The one I used could be turned on and the water was warm but the water couldn't be turned entirely off. My son came with me and said in the Men's locker room there was no soap available in the provided dispensers in the showers. He said though they were difficult to turn on they functioned okay but one of the hot/cold indicators was loose. So considering how much membership costs, they really need to do a better job keeping the place maintained. read more

Staff is not helpful. About 2 weeks ago I tried to use the message chair, I'm new to this gym, I was trying to figure out the remote but couldn't. The person at the counter kept watching me, and I'm watching her, hoping she would help me. I didn't ask and she never came over. So that's kinda on me. Today I went back to use the message chair, again not working. This time I ask the front counter. All he says is u have to reserve it. So I do. Still the chair isn't working. I go back to the counter. Straight away he says "it's not working? U have to hit the button on the wall." Woulda been nice to know all this information before I had to keep going back to the counter. And I had another incident over a locker. Just not helpful here. And the overall cleanliness isn't there. If my insurance didn't cover this place, I definitely wouldn't pay for it. read more

Okay, so I recently gave In-shape on Coffee in Bakersfield,CA. A bad review for the experience I had. Almost immediately someone reached out amd asked what happened. I shared my concern and a few weeks later I received a letter in the mail. Once again gym is never open on time, waited 20 minutes in the parking lot and no one showed up. Working on a routine that requires you to wake up at 3 am to get your workout done before work requires effort and sacrifice. I can't depend on a gym that is not open during business hours. read more

I'm over In Shape! Their staff is rude. They never enforce their rules at the facility. And the most annoying thing of all is they really have ramped up their hidden fees. It cost a fee to pause your membership and now it cost a fee just to drop a member from your account by using their app! I wish I could rate this gym higher but ever since the pandemic, they just become too expensive and never really cared about their members who stuck with them through those difficult times. I used to love this gym and look forward to all their classes. They had daily group classes, from Monday to Sunday. That was the reason I chose this gym over PF. Unfortunately, their classes became less and they introduced VTL, where they expected members to pay double just to have these "newer" classes. I wish they had just included it with the membership for those who stayed in their gym. I mean, I still think this is one of the cleaner, less crowded gyms, thus the 2 stars. Unfortunately, I don't think it is still worth paying almost same amount as the newly-opened gym that offers VTL-like classes and so much more. read more

OK gets worse and worse every day if I were you do not join the gym here just go to Chuze fitness or planet fitness across the street from here. They literally told us that they didn't want our Zumba instructor to go into overtime so they weren't allowing her to come into work while she has a full class waiting for her and of course everyone's now pissed off. This gym would rather save $20 then care about all of these women that got here at 8:30 in the morning. I want to first off by saying i use to absolutely love this gym until i signed my kids up for childcare! I want to know my kids are safe and taken care of as well as being respected but that ABSOLUTELY was not the case! There's a child care provider here by the name of Christina who is AWFUL! I just had a baby and had to take some time off from the gym so my husband was taking my kids almost daily and in those short 9 months while taking a break she used MY KIDS to get close to my husband.... She would ask them personal questions about him and when he would go pick them up she would flirt RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY KIDS! And yes my husband is also 100000% at fault but i just want to warn everyone that this girl's intentions are to find MARRIED dads that take their kids here and she will use them to swoop in and try to completely destroy your relationship (another employee has told me she has done this more than once) and INSHAPE won't do anything about it! Great location, great staff yet the availability of certain machines and amenities is always hit or miss. This is especially true for the steam room at the high-end club in Seven Oaks in Bakersfield. Last year it was down for months at a time (and checking with other clubs it was down there also so it wasn't an isolated incident) and currently is down AGAIN. For the price I pay I expect more. What was even more irritating is that I had the top-level membership last year and while the steam room was out of commission I tried to use a massage table and was informed by the staff that my membership (around $90 per month) did not include use of the massage tables!! They had added ANOTHER membership level. So an amenity that is part of my membership is NOT available for months and they want to CHARGE me to use another!! Amazing. As s side note, last year the staff at Seven Oaks told us that they were waiting on parts while the manager at the Coffee Road location said they were changing service companies. Fantastic visit to the gym today. Love the new(er) FreeMotion treadmill they have. Very easy on my feet, and has good shock absorption. It was making a funny noise, but I didn't mind much because I was cranking the tunes in my earbuds. Afterwards, I hit up the training area in between the free weights and the resistance equipment. The floor was clean, but the mirrors were foggy. Not because everyone was killin it in the gym, but because they hadn't been wiped right. Kinda dingy for such a nice gym. Place wasn't too crowded, but busy enough. Trough it all, the gym was clean, they had plenty of towels, and my kids enjoyed their time in the Kids Club. read more

After finishing up a workout program my friend and I decided to finally sign up at a gym. I considered all my options and visited other facilities but they looked dingy. I came in to the In Shape on California with a 7 day guest pass just to try it out and I was very impressed. When I first entered I was politely greeted by staff. The facility is clean, staff is attentive and I actually see people wiping down their machines. This place has a pool, steam room, sauna room, weight room, cardio machines, TRX area and also class rooms (Zumba, Bodypump and Spin). I came to sign up yesterday and Patrick was wonderful! He was very polite and professional, also introduced us to different staff members. He encouraged questions (if we had any), offered a tour and reassured us that if we had any questions to feel free to ask. I'll be back again (and again and again)! read more

This review is based on the FINE PRINT RULES. I am Orginally from bakersfield but now I Live out of STATE of course, also a member of a gym (anytime fitness). My sister and her bf however, are member at this gym so I thought since I am in town maybe I can just join them instead so I wont be alone and I printed out a 7day pass just so I can be with them too. As I got to the gym I showed Jessica at the front desk my Valid I.D and the 7day pass, as she read my pass, the FINE print states that I MUST be a local resident and If I want to just a ONE day pass I can pay $13. $13?! So I'm paying $13 just to work out here for a good 3hrs. What a rip! Why not $5 or pay $1-5 per hour that I plan to stay?? Sure this facility has very nice amenities, such as a pool, a sauna, showers, and changing rooms. Still, my experience from the beginning was not welcoming to guests. I feel it would be great for other family members to be able to experience a gym that their family also attend especially if they're coming from out of state/town for the coming holidays and work out a great post holiday meal, but I guess that's just business and money matters more. Jessica was really friendly about everything, but I just wanted to be able to work out with my sister while I am here as it is a great motivation for both of us. So much for a "guest" pass but is only applied to local residents. I get it though it's more of a pass to try the gym and if they like it then they can end up paying and joining..but again to me its all business. I am thankful that Anytime Fitness accepts all guests whether they are from out of town/state and the hours are 24/7 as opposed to having only certain hours and I feel that not everyone can work around these gym hours and be flexible to attend THIS gym. read more

The In-Shape Oswell location discriminates against senior citizens. I have been going there since Jan. 2022. I was told to sign up at the California location and then I could use the Oswell location close to home. Yesterday March 16th I went in and after scanning my number I was told by Megan I couldn't use that location that they had reached their limit of SILVER & FIT members that I would need to go to one of the other ones located across town. Not going to do it with gas prices so high. WOW, this gym hardly has anyone in it every time I go in. I feel that many people are still afraid of getting covid and gyms I hear are risky. read more

I had been member with in shape from last 4 years and all of sudden they kept reducing my amenities so that I have to pay more - and keep charging unnecessary reason. when I went to talk to manager. I was frustrated and wanted to ask manager. I asked front desk staff if I could speak one of manager, he informed me that she is in meeting so I waited for half hour and when she came out, I asked her about unnecessary charges - the moment she came out and she said , my meetings are important than customers so I can't help it. and we are charging you because you are using towels bllah ballah - disgusting and disappointing , I was shocked that how can In shape afford to hire such rude employee with zero customer care skills. I finally cancelled my membership after 4 years. And they are very comfortable losing valued customers and I am sure that the day is not far when this business will shut down soon. Amen !! read more

I had been attending In Shape at Oswell Avenue in Bakersfield since 2017. But, it was only last week that I learned that if you are a white male, you can block a black female from using the weight equipment. I had used the weights previously. But, this time, a white guy over a foot taller working several feet away on one piece of equipment came up to me on another one and said I had to leave because he was exercising on four pieces of equipment and I was on one of them. I told him he was wrong and I was not leaving. Other males nearby supported me. A guy cannot prevent a female or anyone from using gym equipment. And one man certainly could not have the right to prevent a female from using gym equipment just sitting there unused. I went home, filled out an official report, e-mailed it in and took a copy to the gym. I pointed out to the same manager that if there were certain types of members who had the right to stop another type of member from using gym equipment or could place it in a do not use category even when no one was using it, then I wanted to see that rule. He could not provide one. read more

This is a very clean, comfortable gym. If cardio is your thing there is an abundance of treadmills, ellipticals, etc. Unfortunately for people like me there is a shortage of space for essential weights, machines, benches, etc. For example, there are only two flat bench press benches, one incline and decline bench, one squat rack. I've been a member here over a year. Good people good staff, BUT the MANAGER Named Jay DOES FAVORTISM. I've been trying to address an ongoing issue and still ongoing, and because of this issue, I almost got injured today. I will keep calling corporate til my issue gets resolved. One day I tried to approach Jay and he rudely ignored me, he walked right in front of me after his coworker advised him I had an issue to address! THAT MANAGER HAS SOME VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have low expectations for a gym, especially because I'm not going to drop a ton of money on anything fancy. Here are my requirements: - Cardio options - Different weight options - Classes - Clean Check. Check. Check. Check! Clearly I'm low maintenance. Now can this gym improve? Sure, but I don't care. I just need it to be clean. That's it. People complain endlessly about how busy it gets at 5 but to those people I have to say, "duh!" Not to be snarky but it's obvious that is when everyone is getting off work, so what do you expect? Be prepared to stand in a line if needed or just be flexible and switch up your routine. My only complaint is that their classes are often inconsistent with trainers and that is something that keeps me coming back. One spin teacher leaves, one yoga teacher leaves, then the class time is changed then changed back. I need more reliability in this area. It is far better than other gyms in town, so I'm a happy camper. read more

First off, I want to reiterate what I (and you can too, with a simple "InShape racketball" Google search) found straight off the gym's website: "Our racquetball courts are inside select clubs and provide you with the equipment you need to play all day--including racquets, balls, protective eyewear and comfortable gloves". So I finally signed up for a gym membership and figured the rooms would be packed, given this is the sole location with Racketball, but I was really looking forward to it. My first issue was asking about it and where exactly in the gym it was located (I stated it was my first time there)...neither of the front desk employees could take the extra 10-15 steps to walk me. Was simply told that they were by the cardio machines (alright I know exactly where that's at since I've been here many times, right???). I then asked for a towel, which I am paying extra for, and was told there was none at the moment... Understandable, I guess. Anyway, I found the courts and waited for one to free up. I thought the equipment would be sitting there or that others would hand it to the next person...but nothing. So I go and ask the front desk, and the guy looks at me like "What? We have equipment?"... before I could mention what their website says, he opens a drawer and finds 2 racquets. He then states, "Oh, well it looks like we do have racquets and...no ball... You'll need a ball right?", then goes on to search other drawers. "Do you need a ball?" I'm just looking at him thinking, is it a rhetorical question...? I don't understand..."Yes...?" The manager JAY has been a pervert ever since I started to attend this gym. I was also an employee where I felt discriminated and objectified by the general manager. I have to go after he leaves which is unfortunately later in the evening. My family members have also noticed the unprofessional behaviors displayed by JAY. I have felt belittled, sexualized, and discriminated when working and, hopefully not ever again , seeing him. When the general manager works out on his lunch breaks, he grunts and moans all over the weight room. In particular, I've noticed women and other members feel very uncomfortable. I also see employees sit down at the front desk instead of maintaining the gym. Overall, the gym itself is a great environment. read more

I would love to give this gym 5 stars but i can't because Diane at the front counter is noticeably unfriendly to members she's not acquainted with. I know she's been around a long time but she needs to understand that the same friendly attitude she has with her favorites also needs to be portrayed to her least favorites. But the Manager and other staff members make up for her selective kindness and favoritism. This gym is GREAT for a good workout and it has a very friendly atmosphere. I love the classes and instructors at this location! They are very motivational, competent, and helpful in modifying exercises to accommodate injuries/ pregnancy/etc. They are the reason I go to this gym. The gym itself is alright. The weights and machines downstairs are mostly modern. The weights and equipment in the women's area upstairs need updating. They painted the walls, but that does not modernization make. My biggest gripe is the lack of cleanliness of the pool and locker rooms. The shower heads leak water, the tile looks like it has not been cleaned in forever. Bathrooms almost everywhere else have a log of hourly checks. Management should be checking more regularly or hire someone to clean the locker rooms more thoroughly. Seriously annoying to go in there after a workout and be grossed out by a dirty toilet stall or shower stall. read more

BAH! I hate taking away stars, but in this case, I feel obligated to. This review is not weighted on the quality of the facilities or the workers here. The facility is beautiful and the employees are very friendly. I tried out a hip hop class yesterday and it was quite fun (although not really for me, I'm into more high-intensity workouts). The instructor was great and motivating and it was fun learning all the hip hop dance moves. The problem I have with this location is the clientele. I'm sorry, the gym is NOT the place for guys to pick up girls. I do not want to be hooted and hollered at when I walk through the weights area to go to the cardio room. Also, some of the guys that use the pool here go in their UNDERWEAR! EW!!! Go and buy a swimsuit, you crazy! Granted, if you go to the gym outside busy hours, then yes, this is probably a great gym for you. No different than any other In-Shape gym. However, because I'm making a special trip out here from my regular In-Shape on Coffee, it's because I like the class (I do this often for the In-Shape on White Ln for the BOSU class). The class wasn't worth it and the ambiance of the gym did not make me feel comfortable working out. Bad customer service at the front desk. I am happy to have a reasonable priced racquetball court and also having a pool and sauna all in one gym is really nice. I just think the customer service wasn't very good. I was kind of bummed out because I was ready to join that day. Newest location for In-Shape in Bakersfield so if you like racquetball and swimming, this is where you will want to be. 30.00 for a monthly membership and also 45.00 a month if you want to go to any other location. Large facility with tons of machines and weights to choose from. Even when it's busy, you generally don't have to wait too long to use anything. I also signed up for personal training with Anthony. He is great, listens to your needs and goals, and caters the workouts to what kind of results you are looking for. He is encouraging, but also pushes you to work harder than you may think you are capable of doing. Within less than two months I've lost about 9 pounds and gained muscle. Highly recommend. read more

Started going to the gym about a month ago. I have only been here after 6 pm so please take that into consideration. I recently moved to Bakersfield and since there is not much to do here, I thought now is a good time to start swimming or maybe going to the gym or maybe something more exciting like watching paint dry. Signup was easy. prices are around $34/ month for just one location, 39 something for all gyms, Towel service is $3 more per month. Great deal when compared to bay area prices. I try to take the Zumba class twice a week. The class is taught by Hershon and it is intense, crowded and very motivating. For a guy, seeing all the women dancing their ass off makes me wanna move like them. Mainly though I use their pool around 8 pm and it is very clean, not very crowded and very relaxing. They have a hot tub right next to the pool and a coed Sauna and Steam room. Awesome. Staff has been friendly, service has been efficient and I see most of the equipment working. The membership counselors are rude and lack customer service skills. The ladies in the front are nice and so are the people in the kids club. The women's restrooms are nasty you can see hair from who knows who left in the same spot for days (wear flip flops in the shower too not get fungus). You can see mold forming in the shampoo dispenser and in the corners.. The pool is filthy you can feel the slime all over the stairs. The kids are left unattended in the pool and the staff doesn't say anything. The weight area is full of egotistical pigs who just take up space taking selfies on the chest machine... And most of those small brained morons do not know how to put the weights back in its original spot. AND most of these people are on steroids . If you like this setting then this is the right place for you read more
