I do not recommend this gym. Professionalism: The trainer I had was named Alex. He was extremely unprofessional, rude, and even hostile at times towards me without clear reason. I did nothing to provoke him except show up to the sessions that I paid for. To this day, it's still confusing and alarming. Sessions: Alex did not show up to two sessions and left in his vehicle while I was still exercising for one of them. I was always sore after workouts, but it helped to have a trainer who was actually present and showing up to sessions. Waste of time and money if they aren't there. Cleanliness: The bathrooms in this gym are extremely filthy. Every time I went, the toilets and the sink were not working. I told Alex about it and he didn't want to hear it. He brushed me off and told me he was aware of the issue, yet it was never resolved. The bathrooms are worthy of an OSHA complaint or a health department complaint. I considered completing one, but chose to get my refund and get out of there as fast as I could. Extra detail: I am a woman and Alex intimidated me in front of people. Knowing that he is a man, and I was on a contract made this situation unbearable. It made me feel like I couldn't defend myself without potentially losing my hard earned money. This kind of power imbalance is not OK. If you are a woman, please consider a different trainer who will not intimidate or try to humiliate you simply because he can. read more

Well the machines suck, whatever manufacturers they are they are not ergonomic. They are all crammed together. I got yelled at by a customer for messing up his playlist on the gyms iPad that everyone runs themselves. Without a doubt the crappiest music people pick and it is cranked to 11. Putting my Beats in on noise cancelling didn't help. I didn't have a problem with the owner like some others and I liked that you could use your phone to get in 24/7. I could deal with the machines but the music and some of the other clients ruined it for me. read more

This is a review following the most recent changes and additions to the gym. I have been a member for about 6months and have been attending the gym for about 10+ years, mainly at commercial gyms. Since they added the new equipment, there are a lot of different exercises and movements that people can utilize to build muscle or just get a good workout, throw in free preworkout, towels, open 24/7, chalk and energizing music and you find yourself immersed in an environment suitable for making all kinds of gains. This isn't your typical commercial gym, yes people grunt and hit olympia poses shirtless, but honestly everyone I have met in the gym is friendly and share the same "let's get it" mentality. Overall my experience at Iron Arms has been great, I'm actually down about 40lbs since I joined(thanks to the pandemic and binge eating cause by stress because nursing is life) and I recommend this place to anyone looking for gym. read more

Overall a great gym. When I was first shown this place it was a work in progress. However the members there were great and helpful as I started to learn how to properly work out. As time passed many upgrades have been made to the gym that you can get more than just an "arms" work out. It's not a commercial gym so don't expect it! But it's been my home gym for almost 2 years now and let me tell you this, nothing will ever compare. It is a locally owned gym ran by one guy so yeah have some patience with the maintenance of the machines. This place is one big family and is super welcoming, the people here are always willing to help with opened arms! This is our second home. The owner is always trying to advance it for the better with some of the best machines. I was newer to lifting and was a bit intimidated on the where and how to start? But Alex gave me a tour, walked me through everything and i could just feel his love for his gym and the sport of weight lifting, i knew this was the place for me and my goal of transforming my body and entering into a fitness competition (A lg goal for a girl with no back ground). I went home that night to find a personalized supporting email from Alex that inspired me to believe in myself and took my goal from a possibility of what if.. to this is going to happen. Alex customized a macro/calorie diet for me and a customized workout plan and explained with science just what we are doing! He didn't give me a cookie cutter plan, like most PT. I really believe that his 10 years of experience has shaved off years of trial and error for me and I can fully trust him and that takes the stress out out of my first show All i have to do is show up and stick to the plan. I have put on 7lbs of muscle in the past few months with Alex's amazing work out routine. This is a new gym behind Salty's BBQ. I am writing this review because I had a difficult time finding a gym that fit my interests when I moved to Bakersfield. If you feel the gym you have been going to does not have enough free weights, Iron Arms Gym is for you. there are tons of dumbbells from 10 lbs to over 200 lbs (that right 250 lb dumbbells!) There are a good amount of machines,multiple power racks, a preacher rack, multiple bench racks, medicine balls and much more. There are multiple fans placed in the gym to keep it cool. The owner is very cool and flexible. The gym currently has a small amount of cardio machines but it has everything you need (treadmill, stepper etc.) and they are always available. The gym is designed for people who want to lift heavy and often. This does not mean there is not something for everyone. The gym plays loud music but the music is not annoying and actually pretty motivating. Everyone I have met in this gym has been pretty friendly. In this modern era of gyms where you are more likely to get asked to take video of a set for someones Instagram instead of get asked for a spot, it is very refreshing to go to a gym where members are friendly to lifters of all experience levels and ages and offer to spot you if you need. Alex was a wealth of knowledge and actually shared all he knew that would benefit me. He wanted to tackle the root of my problem, as opposed to treating the problem. Owner is horrible at maintaining doesn't know how to manage the with the upkeep on the gym equipment. Seems something's always broken and takes forever to get fixed if it even does, I've had the cables fall down on me and smash my hand on several occasions so I could only imagine how often it happens and he has yet to fix or look into fixing it. I am traveling in my bus and my workout schedule is every third day. Traveled thru Bakersfield Ca, did a search for gyms, found 2 others and this 1. I went to Planet fitness having never been to 1, they wanted $20 for a day visit, said no thanks and drove to Iron Arms, $5 day visit, just like my gym in Oregon charges. Walked inside and the music can be easily heard from the front desk. Went in to workout area and found a REAL gym, no BS machines , a little cardio warmup items, 3 I think, the rest is all old school iron and lifting equipment. I am in process of working back from a broken hip and leg, and a triple bypass all in last year and a half. Got no BS from other gym rats that were dead lifting 500 lbs, everyone there is focused on their on gains. So if your traveling thru, or live locally, are a serious lifter or just starting out, you should try IRON ARMS out.
