When it comes to the amount and type of equipment this gym has, it has it all! One of the best and largest gyms in the area, it also has a huge studio with a full schedule of many different classes (BodyPump, Zumba, Barre, Yoga for Mobility, to name a few). It also has a full sized indoor pool with swim classes and water aerobics classes. My favorite time to workout is between 1pm-4pm. I'm not much of a morning person, and after 4pm, it just gets WAY too crowded. They recently installed a workout turf in the middle of the gym with pull up stands and more squat racks, which has been a HUGE improvement to the gym, IMO. The only other thing that's missing from the gym is TOWEL SERVICE!! For such a huge gym and with an indoor pool, it's SUCH A SHAME that they don't provide towel service. If they ever come around to that, then you really won't need to go anywhere else to workout. read more

I arrive at In-Shape between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. Mon-Fri. (They open at 4:00 a.m.) The weights are ALL OVER THE PLACE. Dumbells are scattered throughout all the rooms. They are NEVER put in their place. This just confirms people aren't doing their jobs. The night shift isn't putting weights away. The morning shift isn't verifying weights are in their place. Judging from the fact that this state of being has persisted for at least a year, managers don't seem to care, or they're simply incompetent. I don't have time to spend 30 minutes looking for weights when I should be working out. Additionally, over half of the barbells are bent. That's right. Bent. What kind of crap quality equipment is being purchased? And cable machines? Those are rarely smooth. With all that poor quality, monthly rates continue to increase. Staff standing around on their phones while the place looks like this...and this was early in the morning! When you say something to them they act like they could care less. It's been like this for days now. Same cleaning bottle and plastic glove on the floor in the same location in the locker room for days. You can't fix this with a broom. You'd risk your life going into the sauna. No management anywhere. Don't bother with the auto generated "I'm sorry" response...it's meaningless. We pay dues and an annual fee for this? BEWARE OF THIER POLICES I was a customer for almost a year. Maintenance of men's showers, saunas and pools in low maintenance. Management was poor due to what seemed like lack of pride and care in both clubs here in Merced, California. Shower Floors were thickened with grime, soap dispensers broken or not functioning. Sauna light out for who knows how long and trash under the bench area. Towels needed to be requested. I was coerced into putting my membership on pause for $5.00/ month by the "Manager", for 4 months instead of a planned 2 months after I planned to end membership. I wasn't warned or even mentioned I would be charged a whole months fee if I didn't cancel my membership 2 weeks prior to the end of 4 months. I paid $5.00/month for the 4 months and didn't cancel 2 weeks prior so I was told I would be charged one more month to enjoy the club. -NO CHOICE- I was on auto pay and decided to stop payment during the pending period and Approximately 30 days later I got a bill for one month fee plus a late fee to top it off. I managed to get the late fee erased but ended up paying a hard nosed manager on "street a whole month's fee. Tried to get ahold of Corporate but found out there is NO CORPORATE OFFICE!! read more

The gym is super nice but I could expect it to be a little cleaner. it seems like every time I go into the red light room or the tan room it's always dirty with the debris and hair so it tells me they're not keeping up on it and I always have to mention it to them. I also can't understand at times there's five or six employees and they're all just talking and bullshitting when things need to be done in the gym so that's very upsetting or they're on their phones a lot so there should be no personal usage of phones at all... also in the bathrooms I can't understand why there aren't Seat Covers??? a month and a half ago I got a bad infection and I know it's from the toilet seat. Most other respectable gyms have toilet seat covers why don't we? I'm 62 years old and I know women these days are promiscuous and very sexual and I don't wanna have to catch something because I'm 62 years old.. people just don't respect people like they did and the olden days. Also there should be a rule about having phones in the gym only because everybody's on their freaking phone and I literally have to wait for like a half an hour because they're on the phone and I can't get onto the machine. People aren't wiping off these machines so I think there needs to be more signs picking up after themselves and wiping up the machines because people aren't doing it... the tanning rooms and the red night need a sign that says please clean up wipe down after you because they're not doing that and I'm having to wipe down before and after it's very frustrating because I have a bad back... I think the workers need to pay attention more on making sure that the towel containers are stocked up and the cleanser for wiping down and cleansing equipment. read more

If not for their monopoly, i would chose another gym. The men's locker room is rarely clean. I found feces on a seat. Ever sonce, i stopped using the toilets even to urinate. The sink is a mess. Dirty. Water covering all services. Paper towels cover the counter. Members have no respect for others or the gym. Even so, it's inshapes responsibility to maintain. They run out of cloth towels. Spray bottles are out of disinfectant. Their housekeeping doesn't look for dirt. There's plenty of it. No hand sanitizer. I like the equipment but that's not all that makes a gym. I suggest having a housekeeping Sup walk around with a check list of how things look...regularly. read more

I personally haven't had any good experience here at this specific gym. I was offered a free 7 day trial first to see how it goes before considering an official membership. Not even a day goes by and I'm already being harrased and pressured by the office manager to sign up for membership. I was receiving multiple reminder emails from the manager. I was receiving excessive phone calls / voice-mails and text messages while I was working. Since then I've disconnected my interest of pursuing a membership with Inshape city. Its definately a plus that they have far more variety of equipment. I am paying over $50/month for a membership at the Millennium Club in Merced, owned by In-Shape. I have two complaints: (a) They do not maintain the equipment (e.g., stretched rubber bands, missing or loose components e.t.c.). (b) Users sit on a machine for 10-20 minutes checking their cell phones and not exercising or they are between rounds. I asked a few of them to let me use the machine for a quick round (my rounds literally last a minute or less as I move quickly from machine to machine) and they would not let me. I talked to the gym personnel a couple of times, including today, and they brushed me off. I told them that an easy fix would be a sign setting a 10-minute limit per machine if other people are waiting to use it, to no avail. I recently went to this location on 01/20/18, it was my 2nd time using this facility and what an experience. My first time actually going here was untidy but Patrick who was working was very pleasent. He was professional, good attitude despite it being 0600 am, and presented good customer service. This second time, omg! Im disgusted. I went in to take a shower & wow, it was absolutely gross! The girl on duty was very young, appeared really tired since it was 0645 am ish and just seemed not to be having a good morning. Each shower either had clumps of hair, what appeared to be dry hardened yellow stuff on the floor, hardened soap and a used womens menstrual pad! I informed the girl that was working tjat the showers are really dirty. she was washing her hands and replenishing the toiletries. She looked at me and in a irritated tone she responded, "yah, i know" and continued to replenish the paper towel dispenser and walked away. She doesn't seem to like her job. I didnt get her name, but when i go next and see her, ill update this review. In my opinion, this establishment is a business, your staff is a reflection of how your establishment is well managed. And by the cleanliness of this place, maybe managment should reevaluate and come up with better strategies for housekeeping needs & possibly look into cross training staff members. But most importantly, managment should emphasize to thier staff that, regardless of how you are feeling, when you are working, you are representing that establishment. Poorly managed. Always several staff on duty, all usually standing around the front desk socializing. People are allowed to park at a machine indefinitely and text on their phones. Impossible to complete a circuit trading due to people blocking the process and preventing others from completing a full circuit workout. There is a large amount of equipment compared to the other two locations in Merced, but its drawbacks are that management can't keep up the maintenance and repairs, so there are a few broken machines here and there, also there aren't enough spray bottles and wipes to cover all of the equipment. The customers here are complacent about it too and never remove and rerack weights. I would give this place five stars if a lot of equipment wasn't a problem. I do like that I don't really have to wait on anyone to use the gym equipment though, I love that there's more than one squat rack. The lighting is great and it's never smelly, which are problems I have experienced at the other two locations, so I guess they have that going for them. Liars... Upon sign-up, the staffer, Jason, told me that it'll cost $40/mo basis or $30/mo for two years. When I told him that I'll consider signing up for the monthly basis due to staying at Merced for only a year, Jason tried to convince me to select the 2 year option and a proof of lease from a new residence 200 miles away under my name would suffice to cancel the gym contract without any penalties. One year later and with a new lease in the Bay Area, I was ordered to pay a $100 cancellation fee by AJ when I was promised no penalties. I would suggest other gyms in the area if at all possible because In-Shape City Merced are all about the money like bad door-to-door salesmen. As for the gym itself, nothing special but its nice that they keep it clean. The classes are really good. There's nothing special with all else. I found more use going across the street to Merced High School and using their fields for cross-fit and their bleachers for pull ups. Bottom line: Don't be tricked. Whatever they promise you, take it with a grain of salt or tell them to write it down on the contract as an addendum and have them sign it. I have been going to In Shape Fitness on G street for almost 2 years. The gym is clean and well kept. The employees are knowledgeable and helpful. The Body Pump classes are fantastic! I also have a personal trainer named Valerie. She is awesome! She is motivating and encouraging during my sessions. I always feel energized and strong after working out with her. I highly recommend Valerie as a Personal Trainer. My favorite thing about In Shape is the sauna! It is a perfect way to begin or end your workouts. read more

They be acting like they have plenty of customers, but all i saw was machines just sitting there collecting dusts! The 'councillor' then went on telling me that instead of getting my 45 days he will not charge me $100 dollar "which people have to pay when they walk in" right of the bat i know he was bullshitting. And the front desk blonde was rude as f**k, she made a face like she didn't wanted me there feel unwelcome. If you want to get a good work out around merced area, it's better to buy an p90x or insanity video + purchase some dumbbells and practice at home or wait until 24 hour fitness come around. I really enjoy working out at this gym. The staff is always friendly and the equipment is varied and top notch. However, the men's lockerroom is never clean and it definitely needs more attention. Another issue I have had and still do as an active member is that weights are all over the place. I realize this is more on the members who just don't care, but it is bothersome to have to move other people's stuff just to be safe, and to enjoy your workout. I suggest more, bigger signs for both issues and maybe even a dedicated staff member who can address these concerns. Thank you. read more

I have been paying $20 a month for a locker at the G street IN-Shape and also the Yosemite In-shape. Both places cut the lock off my locker and supposedly threw all my stuff in the trash!!! I had fins, goggles, swim caps, earplugs, swim suit cover, lots of expensive soap, lotion and toiletries back pack toiletry bag, kick board, etc all organized neatly in each locker. I don't buy cheep products. All my sports equipment came from McNamara Sporting goods store and all my soaps shampoos etc are not grocery store brands. They threw all my things away on G street during covid claiming it was what all In Shapes did, which was a lie because during covid Yosemite Inshape did NOT throw my stuff away! Those people don't do a damn thing to compensate. They did this before covid only I caught them at it and each time I caught them (3 times) they would claim it wasn't in the computer and then they would claim they fixed the computer and I would have no more problems! All a bunch of lies! When I went to that place on Yosemite on Friday I checked my locker and all my things were gone lock cut off my locker! The guy at the front desk told me he didn't know why they cut off my lock and threw my stuff away because it clearly says in the computer that I rent that locker! Another thing they painted that place a terrible shade of blue UGLY! and I noticed the locker toilet area was filthy! I want that place to pay me for all the things they have thrown away!!! The G street place was a nightmare and kept making excuses!! I will see if the Yosemite place compensates if not I will be back on Yelp to tell the rest of this ugly story. As far as I am concerned they broke into my locker and stole all of my things. I don't know if they threw my things away or kept what they wanted and threw away the stuff they didn't want? This gym is clean, family oriented and full of friendly staff! They have summer activities for children, tennis lessons, a clean well managed pool and plenty of new relaxing lounge areas with cabanas by the pool! I wish I could leave a negative stars on this one. The "on duty" manager, Katrina, is beyond rude. She continually harassed me while I was working out. I understand the mask mandate, I just wanted to see her CPR certification as running while wearing a mask is not recommended and I wanted to be sure someone was capable of helping should there be an incident. I went to go work out this morning but couldn't bring myself to get into the pool and swim some laps. The pool was filthy. The bathrooms and changing area were both smelling of urine and the pool deck hasn't been cleaned since last summer. No matter how many times i have complained to the staff about the dirt, grime and stench, nothing is ever done. I went home with my tail between my lets and told myself i will just start lifting weights and doing some other aerobic machines because the pool is just to unbearable and gross. read more

I use the gym alot, love going to water aerobics and love the teachers. We had hopes when the gym became Inshape things would improve. It's like they came in and replaced chairs and umbrellas and then, oops an opportunity came up to open the self service Inshape and we were left with half ass done if done at all improvements. The ladies dressing room smelled all summer becuz of a water leak? The"heated" pool even when it's obvious to all it's not heated to temperature on contract, or even to 70, is said to be Heated...and we are left dumbfounded. Th indoor pool on G St has been closed what...8 months? How long really does it take to fix the pool? I've known people who have had a whole new pool built quicker than that. You send in emails, they don't respond. You call the corporate office, they thanks for the call "I've elevated your concern to them.... them? yup... the people you have already been complaining to. They have the monopoly here, but once another big corporate, like 24 hour comes to Merced... people will be leaving big time. They even had the gall to increase memberships while we who pay premium membership to use all the gyms, cannot access what we pay for, but the ones who have cheap ass memberships at G st, come and use the millenium or atwater pools for no extra charge. Go Figure. during the summer we were promised the "same" class schedule but were lucky to have a teacher show up for water aerobics. When we did have teachers, the classes were whatever, not according to class schedules. The class teachers sub but only know "their" classes... so we come thinking it's one class and get something quite different. I am amazed that someone doesn't get a lawyer but since it's the only gym and it was summer we kinda have been playing along. 5 years I have been a member and it's one thing after another. How hard is it to keep a pool clean and at a constant temperature... The new staff is a joke. There are babies in the hot tub at night, and staff not present or willing to enforce rules. Teenagers making out in the pools..etc. I would not reccomend the gym to any of my friends. If I didn' t have health problems I'd exercise at home. If all you want is the use of the pool... it's a hit and miss. The instructors are wonderful, under paid and under appreciated. Join knowing you probably will get questionable service and problems. Oh and if you want to bring "friends' it'll cost 12.00 for a 24 hr period. ????? and if you want your "visiting" grandkids to be able to swim.. think again. Yes or no would be the only answer I wanted except they wouldn't answer it because I have to give my full name and tel number first. What's the secret? The guy who answer says he can get in trouble for answering it unless he has my name. What kind of service or company who hides that info? Very disappointing!!!!!!! The pool is a disaster and has gone from an exercise pool to a neighborhood pool with kids and their negligent parents breaking every rule listed. Yesterday boys were running and jumping in with total disregard for people in the pool exercising, screaming and having a ball, crossing lanes playing tag and I think these were the children of an InShape employee. Today, even more children were there having fun while their parents sat visiting. InShape should have a kids hour for pool use and make people stick to it. That way we would not waste the time driving in there and not get to exercise as we planned. read more
