This place is getting worse and worse each year. There's absolutely no parking and if there is, there's big trailers or RVs taking up more than 2 to 4 spaces. This feels more like a trailer park than it is a gym parking lot. Not to begin that they have the memberships overly full, where you came to work out properly and a daily basis. They'll keep on increasing the fees, but no good quality comes out of it. Do better in shape. I definitely do not recommend anybody to come here. read more

Things have been getting "seedy" for a couple of years (e.g., homeless people practically living at the gym) but I finally drew the line when a guy whom I didn't know and did not speak to verbally lashed out in the men's locker room with a hate-filled rant about getting "my pink, white azz out of my face!!!" I reported the incident, of course, but there was no follow-up. I take my kid and wife to the gym and I finally admitted it no longer felt safe there. Very low and scummy clientele. Day 3 on day 2 I had relaxing 45 minutes swim.. although today I found out the attendant on day 2 and didn't know there was a scheduled water aerobics class ( the bain of all swimmers) he didn't know but told me there was a reservation ( he was tall and a weightlifter, a Lou Ferigno lookalike) So naturally I went to my lane upon seeing senior women and know ropes dividing lanes I walked over to attendant a short very young and very prissy young lady who had the worst fake attitude ( assertive yet bossy) . She made a reservation for me at 10:30 which is time I need to shower. Yet again this place sucks. Now kids vaping in the bathroom, garbage just lives lives there now, inside and out people just live and work and work out in garbage and it's perfectly normal. The occasional guy cares enough to do a clean sweep but mostly they all, employees and members create garbage, walk past garbage, tolerate the low standard of seeing garbage everywhere. So strange to me that it's the new standard. Never mind that no one cares for the landscaping or creating a beautiful place to work or for their members but at least pick up ALL the garbage, twice a day everyday. Handicap shower had broken plastic shower wand holder. New holder for shower wand was installed 76" off floor. A handicap handheld shower wand holder over 6 feet from floor! What cruel thing to do. Cleanliness: they clearly DO NOT mop or deep clean regularly. The floor in the exercise room is filthy and dirty. Every day at 4am there's debris, hair and dust. I go every morning and my fingernails and hands turn black after coming into contact with the floor - DISGUSTING AND DISPLEASING! Perhaps they should consider mopping every night when the gym is closed! I'm actually shocked the gym doesn't have a better system in place considering it's corporate. There's only 2 long mats, which are nice to use considering the disgusting floor. However, if these are all being used, we are forced to use the short ones and be directly exposed to the grime and filth on our clothes and skin. Parking: the lot is full at 4-8am. It's clear that they don't monitor parking and restrict people from parking there who are not members of the gym. This is incredibly inconvenient for paying members. Equipment: get more equipment. Often times I'm searching around for weights and have to run around the whole place. Mind you, it's 4am and things aren't where they're supposed to be. Perhaps staff should be re racking weights and putting things where they belong at the end of the night when they're closed! read more

if I could give five stars for the classes, I would being that is what I use the most. I used to go four days a week Monday and Wednesday body combat Tuesday and Thursday body pump. Then I could kill two birds with one stone Monday and Wednesday. I don't have time for the young kids that sit holding up the machines. I see half of those young girls are not there to work out, like who goes to a gym with their hair curled and 50 pounds at Ulta on let's just be honest. I mean they look very pretty but you have people who really do go in the gym and utilize the machines when they are not standing around. The staff is very polite and helpful as well. please don't get me started on the bathrooms, they're not women. Women don't leave bathrooms looking like your mom should be right behind you like there's a whole ass toilet how do you miss it? Guest visit 1/19/25 (kind of) Solid gym for a super expensive neighborhood. This gym gets a 4 stars largely because it just doesn't compare to the cleanliness and condition of the Sacramento area locations. This gym has a nice variety of equipment. Has a bunch of life fitness, precor, and hammer strength cable machines. It has a bunch of cardio and variety of stair steppers, elliptical and treadmills (not much for bikes, which I generally prefer). Highlights include the standing leg curls and hammer strength row and press machines (unfortunately not plate loaders.) The free weight area is a little lite. Only 1 each of dead lift, smith machine, squat rack and power rack. For barbell, Only 2 flat bench and 1 each of incline and decline. Dumbbell amount was cool (full set up through 120s), but there was only room for, like, 5 benches. Mirror situation was pretty good still. The bike I hopped on was a bit worn out and not in good condition. Did a back workout today, and the precor cable setup was definitely older but in great condition.. cables were super smooth. As a cal fit member for the past 15 years, the shower situation (condition and cleanliness) is embarrassing. It's a pretty solid gym. It's just a step below the California family fitness in Elk Grove, and it's (bigger) but not quite as nice as the golds at the Del monte mall. I would definitely recommend this gym. read more

I want to talk about the positives first: I have been a member of this gym on and off now for 10 years. It is clean, the classes are engaging and fun, and I really feel like I'm getting a great workout. I would also like to see the early morning classes come back. Maybe 5 or 6am would be great! The only negative I have to say is why did you paint over the sayings in the weight room that is off the stretching area? I know it's politically incorrect these days to equate a woman with the color pink, and I get maybe why someone wanted the color changed. But gray? Also, I liked the sayings on the wall! It's hard for me to stay motivated sometimes so seeing encouraging words all around me helped:) read more

I went from a nice, clean, 2-story military gym to this place-- so I'm not really impressed by this gym, but it gets the job done (when it's not busy). However, my review has nothing to do with the staff or facility itself, rather it's the patrons that come here... This gym is not big nor equipped with enough equipment.. So when people are just standing around talking, taking selfies, checking people out or checking yourself out, there are people that are actually there to work out and are waiting for the machines/equipment you're holding up. So please, be considerate. I hate to be so critical about this but ladies (guys too)-- if you're there to work out, then WORK OUT. Stop staring at yourself in the mirror and checking out your butt after every set. YOUR BUTT IS STILL THERE, IT DIDN'T GO ANYWHERE. I wish I can wear a blindfold so that I don't have to see all the nonsense I have seen. And when did they start allowing 14 - 16 y/os to work out? I mean, awesome they know about working out but these kids don't have a dang clue what they're doing & they also are the ones holding up the machines & equipment. This place is an absolute disaster. I enrolled for a month to make sure I enjoyed the remises before committing to a full year membership and I am glad I did. I have no desire to set foot in this place again. Where to start? 1) Premises and locker room are filthy. 2) The gym is absolutely packed AT ALL TIMES. I came here at 5 AM, 8 PM and at different times in between. The place was completely packed every time. No open machines. No free weight stations. Groups of high school kids hanging out on pieces of equipment. Impossible to work out. 3) Lack of sufficient parking. 4) Parking lot is highly unsafe. 5) There aren't sufficient clips, handles or plates. Using any of the aforementioned items requires a considerable scavenger hunt. 6) People will camp out on stations or machines (squat rack, pulley machine) for over an hour at a time. Management is completely unwilling to address this. read more

I've been a member at Inshape for many years. The good: The club has improved being much more clean. Able to reserve a swimming lane and have the enjoyment of serenity with swimming. Has a great steam bath. The Bad: In the hot sauna, when one is sweating with open pores. Members are are entering with crusted dog shitty street shoes. I guess members don't understand or care about detoxing. The club has a sign, no shoes. members continue coming in with street shoes on. I have mentioned this to management many times. 2) Shower in the pool area to rinse off before you jump in the spa is HOT.I Don't feel comfortable taking a shower before I go in the sauna/swimming pool. Where to start... most the people that come to use this gym are creepy, old men who just sit on machines (without ever hitting a single rep) and stare at the women that go there. The ladies locker room has multiple issues from women hanging out in there naked, to leaving their stuff in one of the ONLY 2 changing rooms while working out or showering so that either no one can use them or if you try to, they immediately start banging on the door and won't let you change. Also, most the time one of these changing rooms smells like urine. Disgusting. The hair dryers don't seem to ever get cleaned out so they barely work because of how much dust is in the back. Another thing- it's nice there's a sauna and steam room but one is usually "down for maintenance" or is filled with old creeps who stare- or worse try to talk to you. The machines aren't all that good, but you can still get a workout in I guess if there's something open. Again, most of the machines are just used as staring benches. Overall, this gym needs to implement a lot of rules in and out of the locker rooms and not just be a cesspool of old creeps. Yes, there are older people who come in here to get healthy and fit- I have no problem with them. I have a problem with those that either cause issues for no reason or make others feel uncomfortable by staring or saying creepy things. Please atleast update just SOME of the equipment!! And start revoking memberships!!! I have complained to the manager about some of these issues in the past (some more than once) and nothing has ever been done. read more

Sorry to say, but I needed to cancel my long-standing membership here, because of the Corona virus.They are temporarily closed and not charging fees, until the end of May. Sadly, I am 60+ with Mild Asthma and feel too prone to infection at this time. I have had 2 skin cell infections in the past five years, that the urgent care physicians thought were probably from the Sauna/Steam room/spa/pool sharing areas. Hotbed areas for sharing germs. The membership customer service staff on the telephone was excellent and suggested a six month HOLD, for my membership. However, this is a great time to Spring clean our lives. So downsizing, simplifying, cleaning, donating and de-cluttering my schedule/life are activities giving me comfort and joy, right now. I hope you are all doing well out there! They are really a good gym. The reason I put 2 star is the child care facility which is not screen free. In shape has a contract with Disney and if a kid wants to watch TV, kids are forced to watch Disney movies. Coloring pages are also Disney. My girl asked to get an item of Disney character she learned in in shape, so it's a great marketing strategy. Well done, Disney. Even though there are 2 staffs in their childcare on average, they don't try to actively interact with kids, and usually standing in the front counter. And if one kid ask for TV, the staff, instead of helping the kid to find something to do, just put on TV. Once TV is on, other kids ended up watching it as Disney movies make dramatic noise and flashing visual effects. it's very hard to resist and keep playing for little kids. This is very difficult for family with a little child like us. According to a study of 7,097 children in the journal JAMA Pediatrics, more than one hour of screen time is linked to developmental delays (in communication, fine motor, problem-solving and personal and social skills) in a little child. But if I do one hour of workout, my child can end up watching TV for one in In Shape. This recent NIH research supports several previous studies that have shown a correlation between the amount of screen time among young children and the presence of developmental delays particularly in communication and problem-solving skills as well. I talked about this with the manager. I asked to make the playroom screen free, and train staffs to engage with children instead. She said that she cannot do anything about it cause they have contract with Disney (and they supposed to help kids watch Disney movies), so I contact the corporate office. So I am currently gym shopping. I went to all 3 in shape locations around the peninsula. Starting at the Carmel location: I walked in and asked tHe lady at the desK a simple question. "I would like to pay for a year long gym membership up front. How much will that cost me?" She then spent about 20 minutes showing me all of their specials as far as registration fees and MONTHLY payments go. Then I asked if I would be able to use all locations. Get this... If I buy my pass at the Carmel or PG location then I can visit all in shape locations. BUT if I buy my pass at the Monterey location, I can only use it at that location. Apparently, the Carmel and PG locations are "premium" locations and cost more. Which makes absolutely no sense because those locations are 1/4 of the size of Monterey. So, knowing this I decided to go visit the Monterey location. I asked the girl at the front desk the same question I asked Carmel. "How much will it cost me to pay for the full year." She was stumped, apologized and said she just started there then within 5 minutes answered my question... she gave me a straight number. It was great. I walked around and noticed the Monterey location has a pool, jacuzzi, table tennis,indoor paddleball courts, a special room that's painted ppink so I'm guessing it for women? Anywho it seems pretty premium to me..... Decided to get a 7day pass to try it out Returned the next day to workout and noticed how dirty the gym was. I was absolutely disgusting. Dusty, sticky, trashyy, you name it. And don't get me started onn the ladies locker/bathroom. So my take on my gym shopping..... pay more to workout in a "high class neighborhood" with 1/4 of the equipment, or pay less to workout in a fully equipped gym that never gets cleaned.... Ohhh, boy. Where do I even start with all of this. I was a member here years ago and left on unsatisfactory terms because cancelling my membership was a nightmare. Apparently I wasn't the only one with this complaint because In-Shape was hit with a MASSIVE lawsuit and settled to the tune of 36 million dollars with a penalty of an additional 3 million dollars or so because of this. Despite this, I needed a place to work out and I live close to In-Shape so I figured maybe things had changed in the last seven years and I should give them another chance. I really should not have done this. First, the parking lots are outright dangerous. As of the time of this writing there are three motor homes parked in the parking lot with people living in them. They are using the parking lot as their own personal asphalt patio. There is all of the trash and other items strewn about that one would expect from this scenario. On my third trip back to the gym, I noticed one of the occupants of these motor homes squatting and taking a shit in one of the planters adjacent to his parked motor home. He saw me looking at him from a distance (in horror) and yelled some profanity at me for violating his privacy. He then hastily did a single wipe (the man is daring, I will give him that), pulled out a white plastic Smart and Final shopping bag, bent over and hastily grabbed his stink-pickle from the dirt and threw the bag in an orange Home Depot bucket that was bungee strapped to the ladder on the back of his motor home. I reported this to an In-Shape employee named Geoffrey who laughed out loud and walked away. I then told the manager of the club, a fellow named Raul, who did absolutely nothing whatsoever. The motor homes are still there. You can go see yourself (avoid the planters). About two weeks later there was another incident on the other side of the parking lot. This location used to be a Safeway grocery story so there is a dock area that is no longer used but there are parking spaces there. I parked in one of these spaces precisely because they are on the complete opposite side of the facility from the RV pooper mentioned above. Some man came crawling out from under a trash enclosure or something that borders the property and began screaming at me. I'm still not entirely clear why. He was obviously homeless and had mental health issues. I wasn't equipped to help an aggressive homeless man with mental health issues while equipped with nothing but Adidas workout shorts and an Oakland A's water bottle. I reported this to a manager named Maya. She must have been trained by the same person who trained Raul, because she also didn't do anything, whatsoever. While I'm on the topic of homeless people, there are more than a few who use this gym. One such man likes to sleep in a chair in the locker room. He is in there almost daily. He does NOT like being woken up so you need to be super quiet if you happen to have any of your stuff in the lockers near his nappy chair. The swimming pool is absolutely disgusting. I went for a swim one day and was worried I might have caught Typhoid fever. There is filth lining the bottom of the pool that swirls around when you pass it. It reminded me of the sea anemones at the Monterey Bay Aquarium - except instead of majestic, colorful creatures of the ocean it was clumps of dirt, hair, a discarded hair scrunchy and a nicotine patch. On the plus side, there is a nice view of the parking lot from the pool area! Big shout out to RV pooper man! I cancelled my membership and am glad to have done so. If hygiene is a big concern, be warned. It's a good idea to practice some basic precautions. As other members have mentioned, do not expect this place to be always clean. This is true with any fitness club. I wear my shower sandals, take few showers, especially after the spa and the pool, wash my hands frequently, and so on. Overall the facility offers a good amount of machines and space to do your fitness stuff. The free weights room feels a bit claustrophobic, perhaps because of too much equipment. I like the variety of classes and general vibe. I can spend hours there and not get bored. read more

This club location is still dirty and management seems like they could care less. The only saving grace is that their corporate offices try the best they can to make up for poor service on the local level. ( UPDATE: corporate could care less they make promises but never follow through with their commitments). Their prices are absurd compared to other national chains and they don't hire people who have a good work ethic. They are a high volume location yet most of the employees can be seen wandering around or chatting amongst themselves in numerous "meetings". I will not use the pool facilities as they do not enforce good hygiene among their members who utilize those areas. Members will enter the pool or hot tub in their workout/street clothes, sometimes with shoes. Members will dry their sweaty gym clothes in the sauna and the steam room from past experience is a good place to find sticky floors and wads of hair. The sinks in the men's locker still continue to have hair, water and bodily fluid stains. The mirrors have water spots everywhere due to lack of cleaning. Constant towel shortages and machines that are not fixed in a timely manner. Also the employees here seem to have more of an attitude than when I first joined new members beware. Only reason I am still a member is because of my access to other locations with better amenities and cleanliness. read more

If you use the pool, don't. Around 2 to 2:30 everyday there is a group of older gentlemen who get insanely sweaty in the sauna, which one does. No problem. Then they proceed to get into the pool.and spa without showering off. Disgusting. This place hasn't cleaned the pool through the entire pandemic. I have only been a member for 2 weeks but have had a wonderful experience so far. I love the gym and the variety of equipment they have to offer. Staff has always been friendly and a few always recognize me and remember my name. My main rave for this review though would be the excellent experience I had today with the personal trainer Allison. She was bright, cheery, and friendly from the get go. She really put in effort not to rush things even though we were only scheduled an hour. She took the time to explain in detail the things that would help me achieve my goals, and answered every question I threw her way. When it came time to show me some exercises tailored to my goals, she pushed me to do my best and corrected my form to ensure I got the best results. If all of the trainers work with as much care as she does, this place will do just fine read more
