The gym has two floors of various cardio and strength training equipment to choose from. There is a dedicated weight room as well. It also has a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. In-Shape has gotten into pretty poor shape. The resistance machines are rather old, and therefore frequently broken and out of service. They stay out of service for a month or more. Certain machines are very popular, meaning you have to wait in line to get on the machine, while many other machines are rarely used. The management seems to have no way to keep track of that. There are plenty of free weights if that's your cup of tea, so broken machines won't affect you. The pool is nice, but only 3 lanes, so you have to plan a year in advance to reserve a lane. The other problem is that many of the patrons are under the impression that just sitting on the machine for ten minutes and playing with their phone is enough to get them all buff, so that utilization of the meager number of popular machines is only a few percent, with most of them occupied by someone just sitting on it almost the entire time. read more

They don't like kids here . Pool was empty and you can't take your kids swimming . Only 2 hrs a day kids are allowed to swim even though there is a whole section to the poool with no laps for families . Management was no help . If I could give this business a zero I would! Where do I start? This has to be the worst managed gym I've held membership at. Recently, the Sauna has been down for over a month for repairs, and the spa for three & a half weeks now. As a matter of fact, the water in it today was so green, I think the Loch Ness monster is living in it. The steam room was not operating today, when I informed management, they argued that it was working. Clearly they didn't check it, because the walls were completely dry. The pools heater was inoperative, and the water was too cold to swim. These problems have been constant, throughout the decade of my membership. The customer service is non existent, when you send an email to complain, ( because you can't talk to anyone) you never receive a reply! You would think with the amount of gyms they operate, maintenance would be better, and not take weeks and months to fix faulty equipment! This gym clearly doesn't respect its members, and only wants their fees! Save your money and go elsewhere! read more

Gotta say not great. I just got a membership for me and my family.And I am very disappointed. The gym on nutree and Elmira is in very poor shape. Many machines are out of service and in need of repair. The locker room is filthy and out of things like hand soap often. Trash in the steam room left overnight. This entire month I've had to go searching for spray/wipes for the machines. The spray bottles are ALWAYS empty and so many machines are always broken. At this point planet fitness is genuinely an easier place to workout. Resigned my family's membership here after years of being a customer. This place used to be worth the membership fees, but over the past year, I've been less able to justify the expense for what we get. Every time I go, fewer of the cardio machines work. I think they're down to less than half their previous inventory now. Similarly, there are fewer dumbbells available each week, which could be partially due to the customers refusal to rerack anything, but they do seem to just be disappearing in general. There's 10 large TVs by the cardio area, 4 small TVs very low down on the focal wall with compromised visibility. A minimum of 5 of the 10 large TVs are playing the Liberal left news, not a single right leaning news station is played on any of the 10 to balance out the bias. I don't identify with left or right, I am very much in the middle. But please add a conservative media source on at least one of your 10 large TVs, especially around election time. Half of the cardio machines are out of order and they take months to fix any of them. Some have been out of order for over 6 months, some machines over a year since I've signed up. Never had this issue before at my old gym. Also the sanitizer stations and paper towel dispensers are constantly empty or nowhere to be found. I take my kids swimming here and it's the main reason we got a membership. I am very happy with how clean the facility is. Employees are always cleaning but sometimes there are hair balls in the shower or changing room, but I feel that more has to do with member etiquette. Shower pressure is strong and have a lot of water! Employees greet at door and will even say bye. There's one employee always on her phone watching something. Even then employees are polite and will answer any questions. The sauna was broken for weeks in the summer but when it was fixed the pool was starting to have trouble heating. We tolerated the unheated pool during summer and was eventually fixed with it going out for a week or two at a time during the months following. Currently. The pool heater is broken and I believe closed now due the pool needed to be resurfaced. I am glad we were offered to use the browns valley pool to accommodate this. At Elmira, I wished the family swim hrs was more accommodating for students getting off school or working parents. Family swim time is very limited at Elmira and the family swim times are enforced even if the pool isn't busy. I was excited to see this sign posted before the pool heater broke. The sign says you can reserve family swim thru the app. But when I asked staff for clarification he said no only lap swim and no one under 14 so I asked another employee another day as the sign clearly says you can and was told no only lap swim. Everytime I go in I have to scavenge the whole building to find and 2.5 or 5 pound plates for my work outs alongside the lack of benches that can be adjusted or seats in general. having one single seat to do shoulder press on is frustrating when everyone is crowding it waiting for a chance to use it. I have been struggling for 2 months now to cancel my membership, trying via the app, calling several times, speaking to a different employee each time and being told different -conflicting- information each time. I had to go in person and spent an hour explaining to several employees and a manager that I wanted to cancel and the issues I've been having. The manager assured me my account was cancelled and that I had nothing more to do. Now a month later I've been charged AGAIN. The general incompetence at this location is astounding. From a potential member: I previously toured the Browns Valley location and worked out there. I wanted to try this location before making my decision so I booked a tour and workout online (checked the workout box) same as before. I arrived and toured the area with Ethan. The facility is nice and looked like it had enough equipment and space. At the end of the tour we went over and talked about pricing and was told that I needed to purchase my membership or day pass in order to workout that day. I showed Ethan my confirmation email and waiver of liability form. Ethan told me the form is only for the tour, even though the first line specifically states access to the facility and use of equipment. I informed him that Browns Valley allowed me to workout subsequent to our tour that day and he had no response for it. So what's the policy on workouts as part of tours here? read more

Love swimming and being one that there are only two gyms in Vacaville that have an indoor pool, and at the other gym the pool is always broken. Never warm. So Joined In Shape without getting any paperwork I was supposed to remember everything I was told. Needless to say family swim during the week is from 1:30 -3:30. I work full-time like most people. This is one of the better gyms in Vacaville. Of course a lot of people go here which is why I prefer the morning time when it is less crowded. Check in is very easy with the app. The restroom is not too bad but I think the showers can use a bit more cleaning. read more

I've called Elmira twice, gone in, emailed twice and gone in again to inquire, and I have gotten the run around. I guess the front desk is now serving as member services and can't answer my questions. They have sent me to the app to file a ticket. I can't get a call and no one will give me a number to call or tell me what is going on. My account has been canceled twice without me canceling, in one month... We have become members here recently. We didn't exactly join here because we wanted to. All things considered, North Bay Health Springs still isn't open and that would be our first choice. The In Shape location is good for us. Since joining, I will have to say how much I really love going to the gym. I am thankful I have always been able to get to the elliptical machine each time. After our cardio, the rest of the machines are busy at various times. We've tried to go upstairs numerous times and it's always been busy. We'll keep trying. We haven't used any of the other things like the locker room or the swimming pool. I really am happy here. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the machines at North Bay were newer and more high-end. Here on the weight machines, we don't have anything adjustable except for the weight. We expected to be able to adjust the seats on some of the machines. The other gym also had the system where you could log into the machines and save favorites and keep track of your workouts on your account. This is just a little more basic. The classes are what make the membership worth while. Spin class is my favorite cardio because the instructors push me beyond what I could do on my own and there is low impact on the joints. If you see a class taught by Michele, Shannon or Nicole, they are by far the best. read more

This review is specificly for the general manager. THIS REVIEW IS NOT for the gym overall. Inna, the general manager, is amongst the worst. My first experience with her was less than ideal. We had been offered a service that was complementary when we had first signed up under the older manager. One day, as I was checking in, she publicly announces loudly that I do not have said service. Instead of being nice about it, she speaks in a condescending tone and say "I am the general manager. But, I'll offer it today to you, but now you have to pay for it!" This is fine, I brushed it off and decided it was not worth a scene, since she had already created one. I reported her to the corporate office and that was it. Fast forward to today, in the Zumba class. The studio was extremely packed and the room became really humid to the point where condensation formed on the floor. The instructor asked the manager, Inna, that they needed a fan or something to cool the room down so people don't slip and fall and hurt themselves. For the ENTIRE class, no one came to add a fan and cool the room down and everyone, including the instructor, was slipping around the floor. Safe to say, the instructor was furious. Is it going to take someone hurting themselves for the manager to do something about it? In the end, I will continue going to this gym for the rest of the staff who are amazing. I just hope the manager can turn around and become a better manager. read more

The Elmira gym is my "go to" for spin and other group exercise classes. The instructors are awesome and the schedule offers lots of options. The worst thing about the gym experience is the thoughtlessness of other members (largely young girls and women) who ignore the privacy of the locker room and use it for their personal photo studio. Locker rooms are shared spaces wherein personal privacy needs to be respected for the comfort of all. It would be great if management would post some signs reminding people of this. read more

Things at this location are CONSTANTLY broken. The hot tub never works. The steam room and sauna have been down for weeks! And they also break often and are closed for weeks at a time. This gym has constant repairs that takes months to fix. There are about 12 treadmills not working, the stairmasters were under repair for about 8 months bc "parts were coming from China". Currently, their sauna has been broken for several weeks, "might" be fixed early July and they don't let us use the alternate facility while repairs to sauna are being made. They added a new annual fee on top of your monthly fee and it is ALWAYS crowded. I've been a member of In Shape for 15 years and this location is the worst by far. The water bottle refill station doesn't work. The trash in the locker room was overflowing. Machines are always out of order. I got a membership with my girlfriend and decided to quit the membership in September on the app and all it says is membership is scheduled to be canceled and you will be not able to put your membership on hold. Talked to staff and manager and apparently they made a ticket for it to be resolved but nothing has happened. Don't pay with card people I doubt I'll get my money back literally getting robbed and somehow no one can cancel my account I told them I'd be fine with paying the cancellation fee anything to stop paying the monthly fee at this point.
