Meghan, the owner of Plant by Design, helped us design a full garden, front and back, using all Virginia native perennials, with loads of plants that are friendly to pollinators. She was very patient working with our builder, and her team had to plant the garden in December due to construction delays. Most of the plants survived, and in the spring she replaced those that did not free of charge. Our garden is in its infancy, and we are very excited to watch it grow into a beautiful, sustainable, garden that is good for the environment. If the "before and after" pictures of other installations are any indication, we are in for a treat.

I only knew that because he went to check himself to make sure we could get in our driveway...which we easily could! The crew was here almost two weeks. I thought it crazy that the company didn't provide them a port-a-jon. We had some other work done that took the same amount of time and that company made sure their crew had a place to use the bathroom. I certainly would not expect my crew to have to ask the homeowner. As for the work, good stuff, the crew were very professional. The company's "front office" were attentive when I asked for things, the only oddity is I never got an invoice after payment, nor the link they said I'd get to provide feedback. Like they went out of business or something. At any rate, I'd recommend this company, and would hire them again if I needed any work done. One note of recommendation, the wall lights used were $200 a piece and are fixed. Volt Lighting out of Florida has wall lights for $60 that can be adjusted to bathe the area where the $200 ones point straight down, limiting their ability to bathe the area broader. That is one change I would have made in hindsight.

The work area was super clean when they finished. You would think the hardscape had been there for years. 2). The work crew used a wheel barrow instead of the tracked bucket loader they had on site. As a result, there was NO damage to the existing sod or yard. That caused them a LOT of extra effort and was VERY appreciated. I have completed 1 year of full yard maintenance with The Ground Guys. They contracted to cut the…read moregrass, maintain the mulch beds, trim the edges, pick up debris, remove leaves, prune bushes, overseed and aerate in the fall, activate and winterize my irrigation system. I also engaged them to install mulch and prep the beds as an added fee. They subcontract the irrigation services, and that company was very good, identifying where previously the system had damage that was not identified by my previous service company (extra fee for the repairs). They worked with me as well to adjust the watering setup to preserve new plantings. The GG's services were delivered like clockwork. They are very efficient and complete in all they do. When blowing debris for clean up, my wife was especially pleased that they blew leaves off of our back deck! That was a plus! Since I work from home, I was aware of their comings and goings and the work was always done well. When I had questions, the crew was very responsive to me and contacted the main office when there was some confusion about a schedule that was worked out very nicely. I see the cost of this service as very similar to and competitive with regular HOA costs for "full service" condo or townhouse subdivisions, but this is performed on my 1/4 acre lot. I find great value in this service from The Ground Guys and plan to renew my contract.

I interviewed Green Dreams along with 2 other landscapers a year ago. The owner of Green Dreams…read moreasked me how he could deliver excellent service. My answer was, "if your crew damages any parts of my property, then I expect you to fix it. I don't want to come home and discover something is broken and the crew didn't bother to take responsibility". The owner was ok with that so we engaged in a service contract. I've had several problems this past year including weeds in my lawn and in my beds, a broken landscaping light from a tractor running it over, and broken sprinkler piping from when aeration occurred. I had to call to get these issues resolved. Not good. My service contract says that weeding is part of my service. I never saw any of the crew address weed issues on my property (until I called them out on it). My contract also says that they would prune my shrubs/trees. Being that all my landscaping was all brand new, I didn't need any pruning... but still was I was paying for a service I wasn't getting. My contract also said I could expect to have my lawn mowed about once per week. They mowed about half that amount. So, essentially I paid $280 per month EVERY month whether they worked or not. Considering I haven't seen them from Sept to April, it's not a good deal. I'll update this review next season if my landscaping looks the way it should if I renew.

Update: Trevor called me directly shortly after my initial review, and offered to make things…read moreright. He went out of his way on a crappy, rainy Saturday to come out and talk about the work i was looking to get done, and offer an estimate on the spot. I really do appreciate him reaching out and trying to set things straight.
