I apologize ahead of time for the long review, but hopefully this will show what a great mechanic Dave is. By far the best mechanic we have ever met. We have used Dave for multiple vehicles with different issues. I brought in a 2006 Hyundai Sonata that had a ton of issues. He told me that he could fix it, but it would not be cost-effective for me when the repairs cost more than the car itself since it's an older car. He also let me know that after the repair was done, another part could fail shortly after due to the condition of the car. He was extremely honest and you could tell right away he knew what he was doing. He said he would gladly do the work if I wanted but said if I was in a position to look for a new car, I should do that. We ended up buying a new vehicle and when that vehicle needed new brakes, we brought it in. He quoted me a price and when I came to pick up the car, my invoice was significantly less than what he had originally quoted. I can honestly say I've never had somebody charge less than the quote. He said it took less labor than what was listed and it was an easy job. I then brought a vehicle in for a leak and he told me how my husband could fix the leak at home and then I could come back and he would fix it if we couldn't do it ourselves. I really appreciated that he could have immediately charged me to do the fix rather than told me that but instead he tried to help us out. We ended up not being able to fix it ourselves and went back to him. His quote was very fair, and for the exact same repair the dealership had quoted me FIVE times the amount that Dave did it for. I can't stress enough to go here for anything minor or major. In this world honesty and fairness seem to be hard to find, but not at Independent. Late one night, my car caught on fire (but fire was put out quickly so minimal damage) and I was far away from home and happened upon this shop the morning after since it was about 3 minutes from where it caught fire. I was scared to drive my car and although he was very booked and busy, he took the time to at least ensure that the car was safe to drive and offered to book me a slot later in the week or the next day. Since I was far away from home I couldn't book the service but I was impressed with his care and attention. He was generous with his expertise despite a busy schedule. He's a one man shop and I could see how that may even get overwhelming but he had a calm demeanor and seemed to enjoy his work. It's a beautiful thing when you encounter someone who enjoys what he does and is a master and I think I found that rare combination. I stopped by Independent Automotive to get a fob program for my Subaru Outback. The receptionist went to get the owner to get an answer to my question about cost. The owner returned with the receptionist whereupon I was told the cost would be $160 and would take them an hour to perform. I responded that I thought this was excessive for a procedure that should take less than 5 minutes. I was told that they had to purchase a $9000 computer to perform the task which took an hour to perform. On you tube there is a video in which a dealer uses a lap top taking less than a minute to program a fob. The only thing special was the lap top had the software necessary, but there is no mention that the software cost $9000. If the owner is willing to lie so freely how can he be trusted to work on your car. read more

I took my car in thinking the alternator might be bad. I was assured it was working fine. The mechanic disconnected my battery cables, used a wire brush to clean them, and reattached them tightly. I took my 2009 Jeep Wrangler to dealership for a quote on back passenger window switch/motor not working. Was told window switch was on back order and quoted a high labor and part price not to mention they would not provide me an estimate date the part would be delivered. I did some research and called Independent Auto and Dave set up an appointment based on my availability. He will let you know if he can help you or not and he will give you the good, bad and the ugly up front so you always know what you're getting into. It took him fifteen minutes at less than a fraction of the cost. Dave is the best mechanic I know. He is honest and will never say your car needs work when it doesn't. He has fixed my breaks, changed my alternator and various repairs. In order to change my alternator, he had to remove the bumper and radiator. I thought it would take days, but he had it done in one. Great service!
