Ok.. so I had to update this review and I would give it zero stars if I could or possibly even give then negative stars. Let me start by saying that we really like the food here and order from there atleast once a week and have been for the past 3 yrs now. But after the recent RACIST treatment we have received, I will never ever be ordering from them again and will 100% tell anyone I know never to set foot in this place ever again. So here's what happened. We ordered a paneer mutter with spice level 3 and it was wayyy too spicy (an believe me when I say that coz I love spicy food!), but this totally caused me heartburn and I could not eat it. I called the next day to let them know that the food we ordered was extremely spicy, especially since we order from them all the time. Let me be clear, we weren't expecting anything, just wanted to let them know we weren't happy with it and that they made our food really spicy. I think I'm perfectly within my rights to express my displeasure and give them feedback. But the minute we called and told them that the entree we ordered was too spicy to eat, the guy on the other end immediately retorted before we could finish our sentence and started telling us that "it's these Indians that always call for free food. What do you want a buy one get one free entree?! Isn't that why you called? Its always these Indians that call like cheap people to get a free entree". I was dumbfounded!!! Never have we been treated with such blatantly racism and disrespect, and for absolutely no reason whatsoever. We never once said we wanted a replacement entree. He just jumped to conclusions and started an accusatory, racist rant right off the bat. It ruined my day and left me feeling just plain horrible. It is not in my nature to give local businesses bad reviews because I want them thrive and I want to drive people to their business. But in this case, PLEASE STAY AWAY if you want to leave with your dignity intact. I sincerely hope the owner sees this and addresses this absolutely horrendous service experience immediately. Because this is not just about bad service, its also about treating your customers so so disrespectfully. I will be looking into avenues to take this higher to a consumer protection bureau or something similar, because I sincerely believe that racist accusations should not be hurled at your customers for any reason whatsoever. Rest assured I will not be spending any money at this restaurant ever again. read more

Like most "Indian" restaurants in the Greater Seattle Area, this was yet another place serving Americanized Indian food. It was a little better than some of the others though but nothing spectacular. The offer complimentary papads and chutneys as you take a seat which is a nice gesture. The chutneys aren't really very good though. The green one has no flavor whatsoever and the tamarind chutney is just out of a jar. We got some samosas to start off which were pretty average. For entrées, we got a bunch of dishes: -- Butter Chicken - Too much cream and food coloring like all other restaurants. Not authentic at all but something we've come to accept here. -- Paneer Butter Masala - Same sauce as above. Mehh. -- Malai Kofta - Way too rich and creamy with garam masala being the only flavor cutting through. I know that this is supposed to be a rich dish but it really needed some balance. -- Lamb Curry - This was actually pretty good. The only non-creamy curry we tried, it was actually quite flavorful. We got Garlic Naans and Tandoori rotis with the curries. Both were really good. My friend also got the Kashmiri Naan which he said was ok. Overall the food was average and the prices were slightly high, both at par with other Indian places in the area. The service was quick and attentive and the ambiance was pretty nice and clean. I might stop by here again some time if we're in the mood for Indian food. read more

It pains me immensely to give this restaurant three stars, but they've changed ownership and it's just not as good as it used to be. (The original owners are a solid five-star operation). Chicken tikka masala is my "Indian food reference dish" -- kind of like a test pattern :-) -- and it used to be just completely outstanding here. In fact, the old India Gate's CTM was my version of "perfect" for that dish. The new India Gate's CTM is blander, has thinner sauce -- way too tomatoey and not nearly enough butter and cream, and the portion is much smaller. Other meals here have been good, and one of the kids had a fish dish that was surprisingly excellent -- I suppose we were more surprised that she liked it than that it was good, in all fairness. The servers at this restaurant are attentive and friendly for the most part. They will always bring you more nan, more rice, or additional sauces, though they will charge for the bread and rice, which used to be free. They are very knowledgable about food ingredients (helpful for those with allergies), and this is the variety of Indian cuisine which is more meat-centered, with fewer lentils in evidence. The lunchtime buffet is wildly popular and pretty good, though again, not as good as it used to be. The prices are good for both meals, and have held pretty steady for the past five years. They have a solid wine list and it's classy enough here to bring a date. Kids will do fine here IF you can get them to eat Indian food. My daughter loves it but it might be challenging for the chicken-nugget crowd. read more

Their lunch buffet is quite good! It wasn't as flavorful as some Indian food I've had over the years, but it was good and I ended up getting seconds of two dishes. Can't remember the names, but one contained eggplant and the other was chicken in a thick orange(ish) sauce. I don't usually love buffets because I end up uncomfortably full after (and food usually isn't great), but they make sense when the buffet option costs about as much as one entree item. In this case $11 (before tip) got me from "oops forgot breakfast and now it's noon" hungry to "likely to not get hungry again today" full. read more

The portions were reasonable enough for the price and we had a side of roti and garlic naan. The chicken tikka masala was incredibly rich and creamy, but the chicken was a little dry and not as flavorful as the rest of the curry. On the other hand the lamb was well cooked and fell apart. Bunch of stingy folks. They say, "$20 if cash" when you get 2 "to go" meals. Not a bad deal.....especially with Teriyaki & More right next door.....so, for a flavor change, I tried it. Went with co workers....most got on because of the "deal." Freakin' clown, acts like he owns the place, backs out on the deal because we "packed our boxes good"......WTF, this coming from an ethnic group that thrives on getting the most out of every penny they spend, and some. Anus charged $2 extra for each meal when they weren't restocking the line anymore, closing lunch......and out of naan(bread). Guess what....instead of 12 people eating there....yes you suckered 2....but we, 12+more, will discourage everyone else from going. That's Boeing, Microsoft, REI, and more. Amazing buffet with great spread. The chicken varieties are truly North Indian authentic with the likes of Chichekn Kadhai, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Masala Curry. This Sunday brunch had Poori too as a bread option which was not oily which you might find at other places. Don't forget to try mango lassi it was just amazing. read more

Excellent quality traditional cuisine. The restaurant allowed me to eat indoors even though everything had to be ordered to-go during the pandemic. Even though I'm not of Indian decent I'm from Fremont, California where the number of Indian restaurants (and Indian residents) might be the highest per capita in the country, possibly outside of Bellevue. I've had a lot of excellent Indian cuisine over the last 20 years and this stands up. read more

First, I don't care for the spices used in most Indian dishes. I came in here since my family was eating teriyaki and I was looking for a gluten free meal. They mark the GF options on the menu. The guys up front were super nice and friendly. I chose one meal to go and sat to wait. The inside of this place is very nice. It's quiet and the menu is big. People coming in seemed to know the staff. I was offered a drink and a sucker ;-) Food was about 10 min. Here is where I clearly shouldn't eat Indian food. It smelled weird. I ordered Lamb masala? But I didn't let the smell stop me. I did try it. And I liked it! It had some kick(I had said 3 star for spice), but not too much. I had leftovers and ate the rest the next day. It was better leftover believe it or not. Still smelled weird to ME, but tasted great. I will be back to try more on the menu and perhaps work my way up to liking this kind of food. My husband and I would regularly eat here when he used to work around the corner from this restaurant and I miss it! Their lunch buffets are so good. Only thing I never ate was the dessert which I found way too sweet. But that's not specific to this restaurant, that's Indian desserts in general (for me). India Gate has become our go to Indian Restaurant. We have only had it delivered and have been very happy with the to go packaging. Very generous portions of rice included with our coconut curry and spice level was perfect. Chicken Tikka Masala is great. Beautiful flavors in each dish. Naan is soft and delicious (once it arrived a tad hard). We order here weekly and have consistently been very happy with our food. We order for two adults and always have enough for lunch leftovers. I do get two orders of Naan and that makes enough for the leftovers. read more

India Gate is an Eastgate institution. They have been around for a long time, for good reason. Indian food makes for awesome takeout. One dish is enough for two people. So glad we have rediscovered India Gate, it's our favorite restaurant. By the way things are pretty spicy here, out of 6 we go 3 or 4 and it's spicy. India Gate's food is excellent, probably the best Indian restaurant that I have been to in Bellevue. A rundown of the dishes I have tried: * Chicken Vindaloo - This is my favorite. The chicken vindaloo is always very good and they give you generous portions. Also, some places make their Vindaloo a bit sour, but not these folks. I like it not-sour. * Chicken Karahi - This is similar to Chicken Vindaloo but with peppers and onions instead of potato. Otherwise, the taste is similar. Both are good. * Lamb Korma - Very good, probably my second favorite. The sauce is creamy, and they are generous with the lamb. * Lamb Vindaloo - Like Chicken Vindaloo but with Lamb. I prefer Chicken Vindaloo and Lamb Korma but that's just my personal preference. * Chicken Tandoori - Their tandoori is pretty good too, but I usually prefer dishes with sauce and therefore do not order tandoori often. * Chicken Tikka Masala - Very delicious. They appear to use ghee to give the sauce a creamy texture, which is quite nice. I highly recommend India Gate if you are looking for Indian food in Bellevue. read more

I absolutely love their garlic basil naan and would eat it every day if I could. Their various curries are flavorful and not oily with generous portions of tender meat. Yum! I wanted Indian food for dinner on the east side so I found this place. It is in a weird location, tucked away between car dealerships, a small strip mall, and a Dairy Queen. The two dinner entrees my boyfriend and I had were solid. We got the chicken saag (spinach) and the Navrattan korma (vegetable korma). The saag was that dark green color, and it looked pureed which I like. The korma was that bright orange color with lots of veggies like cauliflower and potatoes. The curry was very solid and full of flavor. I could eat this every day! We got both dishes as as 2 out of 6 for spice level, and we both found that the level was just right for us. The disappointment was the lamb samosas for appetizers. The meat was a little dry and when I cut the samosa open, dried pieces of lamb (looked like ground beef) fell out. The samosa was not that flavorful, unfortunately. However the rest of the meal was very solid, and the prices weren't too outrageous either. Each entree was about $10-$12 and there was a lot of food. Good lunch buffet for about $13 after tax! Selection is pretty good and includes at least 6 meat dishes (tandoori chicken, mango chicken, chicken pakoras, etc), basic salad and cucumbers, a few hot vegetarian options (paneer, etc), kheer (sweet rice pudding), gulab jamun (spongy desert balls), several sauces for the naan (mint chutney, mango chutney!), and free chai tea. Food was pretty good (love the mango chicken and kheer), although the naan was nothing spectacular (seemed like they just microwaved some store bought stuff, it wasn't really crispy or fresh). My spice tolerance is unfortunately low so I couldn't eat a whole lot besides the paneer, tandoori, and mango chicken, but I'll definitely be coming back for my lunch break! read more

Food and service was wonderful. We ordered the tandoori chicken, lamb saag, and garlic naan. The chicken was excellent flavor and very moist, and the flavor profile of the saag was excellent! The naan was maybe a little "denser" than at other Indian restaurants I've eaten, but tasty nonetheless. The Saag also came with jasmine rice that was excellent. All portions were very generous and they included two delicious slice sauces! Service was great, we ordered take away while staying at a nearby hotel (Silver Cloud - also an excellent choice!!) and our meal was hot and ready within 15 minutes even though it was "dinner" time. They also provided plates, napkins, silverware, etc, which was awesome as I had forgotten to request it since we were at the hotel. I'll look forward to "dining in" when the "COVID Lid" gets lifted. This restaurant serves the the best Indian (North Indian) food in the eastside. We order only vegetarian food and we love it. Even though we recently moved to Bothell, we make sure we find a reason to go to Bellevue to get this food. Dal Tadka, Shahi Paneer, Baingan Bharta are our favourites. Butter naans are awesome too. We will be ordering food/visiting many more times in the future. read more

Pretty good overall. I ordered the butter chicken and my husband ordered the chicken Tika Masala. We got garlic Naan and I got the Naan that was supposed to have everything raisins and nuts and dried cherries in it. My meal: the chicken was tough and over cooked but the flavors were there. Still good. The naan was not as advertised, it was shredded sweetened coconut ans some kind of bright mysterious pink pigment, it was okay and not at all what was advertised on the menu, this is the reason for the one star removal. His meal: tender chicken, delicious garlic Naan, and an awesome coffee. Staff is friendly enough. Extensive non-alcoholic beverage menu, and the meals are large enough to feed two people easily. We departed with a ton of left overs. All in all, we'd come back. :-) read more

I used to eat here all the time.....way back before our area got inundated with so many fabulous Indian restaurants. I decided to try it again today and was not very excited. There is not a large selection of vegetarian dishes (compared to other places). The mint chutney is full of disgusting food coloring making it a sickening kelly green (no natural item on earth has that color) and I wouldn't put it in my mouth under any circumstance, despite my love for it. The chai is so watered down that if one were to close their eyes, they'd say it was hot water. ZERO chai flavor. Horrible. While we ate our lunch, the staff repeatedly cleaned the neighboring tables with Windex! The chemicals were flying into our food and my throat immediately gets so sore from the chemicals. It is against the law to spray chemicals on tables while customers are dining. Shameful. The raita was good. The other dishes were ok. Nothing sensational. Well, I won't be returning to India Gate again. There are too many fabulous Indian restaurants in our area. read more

Nice clean, atmosphere, friendly staff, decent food. Perhaps I'm overly critical, but I expect my Indian Food experiences to be explosively flavorful. That's what the cuisine is all about. I have been for both dinner and the lunch buffet. On a recent lunch, I sprang for a dinner entre of Lamb Seekh Kabaab so my co-workers would get a taste of the premium Indian experience. Sadly the flavors of the Lamb Seekh Kabaab seemed muted as well. I was disappointed. My co-workers were unimpressed. India Gate is OK, but I'm holding back the 4 STAR for now. Next visit I'll get Lamb Vindaloo and Tandoori Chicken. I have high hopes. read more

I don't give out 5* ratings easily, but India Gate deserves nothing less!) India Gate is a hidden gem. They are difficult to locate unless you look for Yelp for "Indian restaurants" in Bellevue. (This is how I found them when I went there for my mom's birthday dinner last year.) Since then, we are regular here. While everything at India Gate is amazingly delicious, I would specially recommend Shahi Paneer, which is the best Paneer entrée I have tasted anywhere in Seattle. Recently we celebrated our son's first birthday, and after talking to a about 3-4 Indian restaurants for catering, we settled on India Gate. Right from the first conversation, we found Raj very professional and accommodating of our requests. We ordered Shahi Paneer, Daal Makhani and Chana Masala + desert, breads and sides. The food was delivered to the party venue 10 minutes before the promised time. While Shahi Paneer was everyone's favorite as I had expected, but rest of the items were awesome as well. Almost everyone asked me where the food was from, and not surprisingly only a few had heard of them. If you like Indian food and have not tried India Gate, go try them today! read more

A decent variety of items for their lunch buffet. Price has gone up since last year but food is still fresh and quite flavorful. Lunch time was busy but not a long wait time since there's plenty of seating. There's rice pudding, gulag jamun, burfi, ice cream and fruit for dessert. I work near this restaurant so I have eaten here often. Their lunch buffet is exceptional. Each day offers a different selection of items but all of them are perfectly seasoned, hot and fresh from the stove or oven. You can tell that the chef's take great pride in making the food spot on every single time. Again, I've been to India Gate dozens of times over the years. It's consistently great. Never a bad experience. Not even once. The customer service is 1st class. The guys are beyond polite. They fill your water glass and remove dirt plates before you realize you need the courtesy. The price is more than fair for what you get: all you can eat buffet including salad, (very good) naan bread, and assorted entrees. Don't forget dessert! I love that I can take an ice cream cone with me on the way out. Highly recommended spot. I've have Indian cuisine at many places in and around the Seattle/Bellevue area. Lots of options at their lunch buffet! I've only ever gone for that, and I get so excited at all they offer. It stays consistently busy throughout the lunch rush but it cycles quickly so I've never had to wait for a table. They are well prepared for the lunch hour and they keep everything full and restocked. Can't go wrong with this place! The only thing is that parking in this lot can really suck sometimes, as there are several other food options in the lot so be prepared to circle around a few times! read more
