Ordered for carry out. It took a while to prepare but in all fairness, we did order a lot of food in preparation for having lots of leftovers (and we did, indeed, have a lot). We got: chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, dal makhani, palak paneer, naan, paratha, and samosas. So much food! The standout for me was the dal and chicken tikka but everything had great flavor. It was good day of and day after. Everything was hot and fresh even after the car ride home. My only nit is there wasn't an option to select spice levels so everything was pretty much mild. I'm not saying I needed it super spicy but we could have handled a little more spice! Nonetheless, the flavors were good. Everyone gets freshly baked naan and the selections include butter chicken, tandoori chicken, biryani, goat, palak paneer, mini samosas and others. It's one of the few buffets that offer every entree that I like and I like it a lot more than Anapoorna's lunch buffet (the only other Indian restaurant I'm familiar with). My third time having Indian food this week and this is probably the best. Everything from the buffet table was delicious. Chicken is a favorite of mine. They had plenty to choose from. I would put the sauces on my rice. I really enjoyed how warm and fluffy the Naan was. I used it tto soak up all the sauces on my plate and not leave anything behind. Love that an Indian lunch buffet is available in the Irvine/Tustin area on weekends for a reasonable $17.99. I can't say I know a lot about Indian food so it helps I can partake in various options. There were a couple of groups of people already eating but when we left at 11:40 PM, there were lots of people. Restaurant is located in a small plaza and interior is on the smaller side. Buffet is $15.99 on weekday and weekend lunches, super affordable compared to the other indian places. I didn't expect too much from the butter chicken but it was super creamy, tender, and flavorful, the best one from the buffet. The spicy chicken curry and the veggie curry was also tasty. Pakora and Samosa were also flavorful and not mushy at all. The only miss was the aloo gobi, which was a little mushy. Naan was a little bland but the texture was fluffy and super soft. Gulab Jamun had good flavor but a little mushy. Their mango pudding was bomb, tasted like a thick mango lassi. My fiance ordered their chai separately and it was decent but nothing special. We came on a Thursday a few minutes after they opened. There were already 2-3 other groups there. We were all there for their $16 buffet. The workers there are always at tentative: filling up your water and taking your plates. They even ask if you want refills on your naan. My favorite things to eat here are the: Mixed Pakora, Butter chicken, Spicy Chicken Curry and their veggie Makhani. I typically just get a plate with all those things and dip the naan in. I've been here several times now for the buffet and I can confidently say I will continue to be back. The lunch buffet is $15.99 per person all week long which is great value. I typically get the butter chicken and eat with the delicious biryani with some garlic naan. The butter chicken is great and pairs superbly with the biryani. Sometimes there is not enough chicken in the dishes but still tastes great. For dessert you can choose between the mango pudding and kulpi. First things first, the mango pudding is AMAZING. Maybe i'm just addicted to sugar, but I eat five bowls of it every time I come here. The pudding is smooth and the fruit inside adds some crunch that makes it even better. The kulpi was new, basically healthy ice cream which I quite enjoyed. The workers were kind and on point with filling up waters and making sure everything was to my liking. They regularly refilled trays that were looking empty. The restaurant inside is clean and relaxed. I will definitely be back the next time I can afford to be in a food coma. read more

Wanted to try a new Indian restaurant and decided on India Gate from the Yelp reviews. They have a sign by the door saying lunch buffet for $15.99. Sold! We were seated right away and the place was pretty packed for a Monday at 12:30pm. Most of the tables were taken so it was a good sign. They brought naan to our table right away and also kept refilling our water throughout our meal. Great service and the place was also very clean. They had a great variety of dishes in the steam trays. I liked the salad they had and it had a nice tangy dressing. This buffet had butter chicken. Yay! They also had other curries, sag paneer, samosas, etc. I appreciated that there was a generous amount of proteins in the curries unlike some places that you have to hunt for it. This is my new favorite Indian buffet! For $15.99, you have a large array of delicious food from which to indulge, vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Their samosas were so fresh (no sogginess) and a great size to enjoy and still have room for all of the other fantastic options. Their salad bar was kept fresh and all their foods were kept hot. There were plenty of choices and a wide variety. Their meats were all tender and full of flavor. Their naan is made fresh when order so there might be a tad wait but totally worth it. My favorite dishes includes the palak paneer and chicken masala. I also enjoyed their desserts. Not a fan. The pakora was too thick and doughy and I couldn't taste any single vegetable flavor at all. The vindaloo was the worst vindaloo I've ever had. It was nothing but grease and vinegar. I only ate half before I gave up. Ordered delivery and they left out the naan. Drove all the way over there to retrieve it because what good is a saucy Indian dish without rice or naan? What a waste of delivery fees though. And they offered me no apology. This place seems to be so loved and popular. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I ordered samosas, chicken tikka masala, shrimp biryani, and garlic naan during dinner time. From the reviews, it seems their AYCE buffet is the star, but unfortunately, the to-go food falls short. The samosa was the highlight--your typical version, though a bit smaller than what I've had elsewhere. It paired nicely with the kick from the mint chutney. The chicken tikka masala looked and smelled great, with decent chicken and a creamy texture, but the flavor just wasn't there. It lacked salt and spice, making it taste muted, especially when eaten with rice. The shrimp biryani was the biggest letdown. They don't ask for a spice level, which should've been my first clue. It smelled wonderfully aromatic when I opened the container, but the taste was bland. The only improvement would be to not dress the salad, it is soggy at times. I have to pick out the cucumbers and tomatoes. There is soup and dessert too. Fresh fruit would be a nice dessert option. But usually it's mango pudding with canned fruit cocktail and fried donut in syrup. You also get AYCE fresh baked naan! Sometimes with the lunch crowd, there are large groups having loud company meetings, so it can get loud. I suggest going there before or after peak lunch hours.
