A long overdue little update about this place: they've proven time and time again that the wait time (~20 minutes) is worth it! I was drawn by the rave Yelp reviews. Unlike a lot of Yelp darlings, this place did not disappoint. I must say it's some of the best fried chicken I've had in recent memory. I ordered the leg and thigh lunch special. The chicken was great, and the fries were, too. Note, the lunch special does not include a drink, so it's not the good deal it first appears to be. Also, I'm cutting way back on fries. Next time I'll order just the chicken. If you're eating in, the drill is you order and pay at the counter, and they bring your food to you when it's ready. I was surprised by the wait for my food to come out until I recalled the food is made to order. This is superior to fried chicken sitting under a heat lamp. If you're eating in, the "ambience" as depicted in my photo is nothing to write home about, but it gets the job done. No complaints. Bottom line: I'll be back. read more

Food: We wanted crispy chicken and the name here gave it away. I had the lunch special with the chicken sando medium spice level + fries. IT IS SO DAMN GOOD AND WORTH IT!!! Cost: The lunch special was $10 so that is a complete steal! I can't recommend this enough. We came for their two year anniversary and found the hospitality to be really good. Everything on their menu, besides lunch specials, were 50% off. Our bill came out to roughly $50 after discount and tip. Here are my takes on the food: 1. Spicy smash burger - the burger was average, 3/5. The meat was okay but the burger did have a kick to it so I found that to be pleasant. 2. Cajun fries - their fries were fresh and the Cajun seasoning hit the spot. 3. Chicken tender - I found the chicken to be on the smaller side compared to other chicken tender places but it was seasoned nicely. I only tried a bite out of the original flavor, but with a sauce, it was okay. This is a dry rub. 4. Chicken leg and thigh - I did not personally have this, but was told it was good. Less salty than KFC and since you can pick your desired spice level, my party chose hot. I tried just the crumbs and found it to be pretty spicy. For the anniversary sale, the pricing was amazing. To get the amount of food we got for a little over $50 in this market is unheard of. They do serve hand slaughtered halal meat. read more

I was on a work trip and I was looking for a place to eat dinner. I found Krispi Hot Chicken on yelp. I read reviews and decided to go to this restaurant. I entered the restaurant and was greeted by the staff. I ordered Krispi loaded fries and garlic bread. The fries came with seasoned fries, coleslaw, pickles, fried chicken and their house sauce. The fries were wonderful and the taste was magnificent. The garlic bread was fresh and toasted to perfection. The ambiance is very customer friendly and the wait for the food is not long. Halal certified chicken definitely hits different. Everyone in the OC needs to try this place at least once in their life. Service was helpful in letting me know how to gauge how spicy the chicken can get (i ended up going for Thai medium). My friend and i enjoyed the outside seating. Comfortable and in a fairly shaded area. Can't wait to come back. I ordered two legs and two thighs. My friend let me try her buffalo wings and they were marvelous. I used to like this place until I witnessed how utterly disgusting the people who run it are. The lady who took my order dropped packets on the floor and put them right back in with rest while she was sweeping. She showed no gratitude for my business. Then two guys who think they're royal parked in the handicap spot with no placard or disability then walked in and sat their ass on the counter, clearly part of the family or employees. We were passing through the area and tried the medium heat two piece and lemon pepper wings. They were made fresh to order. The wings were crispy but just okay. But the two piece wasn't as crispy as it could and could use more flavor. I think if it had the lemon pepper flavor it might have been better. The service and ambiance dropped the score from 3 to 2. The service was not welcoming. It felt like the cashier, didn't respect the product, so she didn't welcome the customer. The ambiance was cold and more of "enter at your own risk". My review is more based off of the service versus the food so I will be fair and review both. First the good, the fried chicken they serve is quite possibly the best I've tried in a while. My wife's go to spot when she gets hungry and we are in the area. Great quality meat, since its hand slaughtered halal. The fry on the chicken is as they say in their title, "Krispi". I would order here all the time if they offered a delivery service. The bad. The lady in the front with the scarf over head just has a RBF. Complete attitude from the moment we walked in, but we ignored it. Everyone is entitled to those types of days. What made it worse is they close at 9pm. We placed our order at 840pm and the food got ready by 912pm. We asked if we could eat inside since my wife wasn't feeling well and it was freezing cold outside and she in a rude way said you can eat outside but we are closing inside. We understood and respected their closing time. 2 minutes later, 2 guys walk in and are waiting for an order that they possibly placed on the phone. We finished our food by 930ish. Those two guys were still waiting inside for their order. My problem is, what would have been the issue if we just ate inside, while you knew people were coming to pick up their order. It wouldn't have cost you anything and we would have cleaned up after ourselves, if there was a mess of any kind. Dropped by here for a quick lunch and loved it. We ordered a chicken sandwich and a side of fries and it came out hot and crispy like the restaurant suggests. Like crispiest fries ever sooo good and good portion too. They give you two sauces to go along with the meal. The sandwich tastes clean and not greasy at all. If I have to be honest, a solid fried chicken place. And it's halal too. Owner/worker I met was very nice and hospitable. I wanted a shawarma when I came in but apparently those are seasonal so the menu is ever changing. Best part of this place it's halal chicken. Don't worry about pork here Alhamdulillah. To the food: fried chicken sandwich was again solid. Price, size, all good. Do I wish the chicken to be bigger in the sandwich? Of course but I'm a fatty so I'm glad it isn't. Slaw, sauce and pickles arent missing and absolutely delicious with the HOT chicken. Be careful of the spice level you pick, they are spicy! The fries solid. Battered fries are better imo. He definitely seasons well and there are other options for it too. Crispy and delicious. Out of 10, I'd give the place high 7 to low 8. Definitely beats Dave's for being a smaller mom pop like place. Overall rating: 6.5/10 The Cajun fries were absolutely incredible - perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were maybe a bit too salty for my taste, but the texture was perfect, and I appreciated how flavorful they were outside the salt. Rating: 9/10 The Krispi Sandwich was kind of a let down. The coleslaw was nice and fresh and I enjoyed the pickles when I got a bite, but there weren't enough of them to cut the taste of the house sauce, which tasted like ketchup to me. When I happened to get the perfect bite, it was good, but nothing special, and that perfect bite was hard to get given the lack of balance in the ingredients. The chicken itself was tender, but I couldn't really taste it over the sauce. It also just wasn't spicy at all. I got a medium, but I didn't even get a mild amount of spice. They have a scoville ranking of where their different levels fall, but it's hard to make sense of it or apply it to the actual sandwich. Rating: 5/10 Service and ambiance were both pretty meh. The cashier was on the phone the entire time I was there and didn't seem like she wanted to be there. I asked her what was popular, and she was pretty obviously exasperated with me. The restaurant itself didn't really have a lot of character to it and was just basically chairs and tables with a TV under fluorescent lighting. This place is such a solid location, quality wise it's on par if not a bit better than Holdakk. That's saying alot as Holdakk was one of my favorite chicken sandwich shops. This establishment is owned by Asians and it shows in the sandwich. My favorite chicken sandwiches always has a sour element not just from a pickle, and most Asian chicken sandwiches have the sour cabbage slaw in it. This place is no different and it tastes amazing. Now let's talk spice. Most places give you a normal and spicy option, but not here. There are tiers of spice levels so you can customize your order if you like it really hot, and I greatly appreciate the variety. I ordered my sandwich very spicy, and it packed some heat in all the right ways. Sandwich is a 10/10 in my book.The canjun fries are also fantastic, super crunchy and soft on the inside. The best part for me is location. This place is so much closer than Holdakk in Orange, so I'll be frequenting this alot more and rotating it into my lunch options. Fabulous service, stellar food. Highly recommended this place due to the service and how exciting their fries and chicken gets me. Went to visit here a few days ago and I like it, would need to come back for their animal fries.
