We ordered dinner from this restaurant and my whole family was appalled at the lack of quality. Everything we ordered was watery and over salted. Tikka masala was bright neon red. I don't know how it has that color. I've eaten at Indian restaurants around the world and have never seen such an unnatural color for a curry. The chicken korma had a more standard curry color, but was SO salty. As was the tikka masala. Both were watery. Lacking in flavor. The korma was spicy, but not from curry flavors. Seemed like it was just some chili pepper and a ton of salt with a touch of curry spices. The garlic naan was sparse, thin, and bland. The plain rice tasted like it was part of a burnt batch. The raita was also watery. And the mango lassi tasted like water with yellow dye and a splash of mango juice. NOT like the mango yogurt thick deliciousness that a lassi is normally meant to be. We threw the whole meal out. I couldn't even salvage the white rice. It felt like a place that had run out of ingredients and needed to compensate with salt and water. And food dye. I have never had such disappointing Indian food before. What an unfortunate experience. read more

This place is very humble and perhaps a bit dated, BUT... This was literally the most delicious and authentic Indian food I've EVER had. We ate there on a Saturday for lunch and the buffet was the only option (I guess menu options are available for dinner). That did not matter though once we sampled some of the buffet items. I ended up going back to the buffet just so i could taste more of the delicious options. I would absolutely go back to this place ANY time i have a craving for amazing Indian food. Very quiet on Monday, easy parking. Except for togo orders, ee had the complete attention of the older lady. She was very nice, gave lots of suggestions and engaged in polite conversation. What a hidden gem. The food was amazing we ordered Palak aloo, black bean soup, papad, naan, Gobi Manchurian and vegetable Manchurian. The service is impeccable the owner mama Narish went through the whole menu with us and told us that she would make whatever we wanted vegan and boy what a surprise she whip up for us. First time having Indian food! It was very good! Not many people when we were there. Only saw three workers, but the older woman who I guess owns the place and cooks was so sweet!!! She came over to our table a few time to check on us from the kitchen. Amazing old woman! Only reason for 4 stars was because the service was somewhat slow. I guess it's was because only the older woman was in the back cooking. Wasn't expecting to see the cloth napkins and glass drink ware, didn't feel like I was dressed up enough but it was all good! This place is hands down AMAZING! We were in town visiting and needed a gluten free dinner option. The owner, Mama Narish, was so wonderful. She made my daughter special dishes, even bringing her Papad when I ordered Naan. She fussed over us like we were family. Yes it's slow but she's back there cooking every dish to order. I had lamb biryani and garlic naan. My daughter had chicken curry. The food was perfectly cooked and seasoned. She made pakora for my daughter and I had samosas. Yum. Truthfully it could have been anything and it would have been wonderful because Mama Narish made it with love. I was sad because people aren't more adventurous and the restaurant was fairly empty, even on a Friday night. She's been there 17 years and obviously loves what she does. Customers hugged her as they came and went. If you like Indian food, this place will not disappoint. And don't be in a hurry. First of all-SOLID Indian food. We've been here a couple times and have been happy each time. We've had a couple different naans, samosas, lamb, and chicken. All were excellent and we were happy to finally get a chance to come back for another go. Secondly- the owner/chef is warm, engaging and above all talented. She cooks with her heart for her guests and it shows. She knows her flavors and ingredients and whips them together into an act of love. The second time we came into order, months after our first time she remembered us! We aren't terribly memorable, your average 40 something's heading over to Cookeville on a date night. While Cookeville was a college town, it's also filled with plenty of Middle Ages folks and retirees, so we really shouldn't stand out. The impression I got really was one of genuine caring and passion for her guests. We aren't just customers to this amazing owner, mother, and woman. I have ordered delivery through outside sources several times and I have never been disappointed. The food is amazing, simply put. I have tried the other Indian restaurant in. This truly is a hidden gem. Our group of 5 stumbled upon this humble establishment with the help of yelp. At first, things didn't look well as we sat around 10-15 without even seeing anyone who worked at the restaurant. Finally we just helped ourselves to some drinks and I went back to the kitchen to see only a husband and wife working. That explained everything. The smell emanating from that kitchen made me decide that we should wait and be patient. It was going to be worth it. Well we were not in a hurry and enjoyed our own company although it was around 1.5 hours for the food. My advice- order ahead. We ordered shahi lamb, Kadai lamb, lentil beans in a sauce I can't remember, baigan barta ( excuse my spelling) and for a first tandoori swordfish. And there was also a delicious lentil soup and very fine naan that had just the right amount of crispness. Everything was excellent and all the flavored had distinction and depth. I'm not an Indian food connoisseur but I did find the swordfish a little dry and the tandoori sauce in the sweet side. But I truly enjoyed everything. I like this place. Ok... I kinda have to as its the only Indian restaurant that I know in Cookeville. The food is good and its a decent price for the food. I went on a sunday evening and there were not many people there. Its kinda tucked away on 1st street. The family that owns this place is very friendly as other reviewers have mentioned. The service is pretty quick. Being Indian I am very picky about Indian restaurants but I was very pleased with this.I have not tried the buffet and so I do not know how it is. I will update my review once I do that. As a date place I think this would be great. The atmosphere is very mellow with indian music playing in the background. But as you know Indian restaurants are not places to go smoochy smoochy. So you need to get your groove on some place else. read more

We loved our dinner here! The owner was so kind and sweet! We ordered the veggie samosas and veggie pakoras- they were perfectly crispy with great flavor. She added another samosa for the extra person in our group! After that we had garlic naan (she made herself) with saag paneer, lamb kadai and another bbq lamb dish with tomato sauce (#73!)- they were delicious!!! We ate there in Jan 2020. Against our better judgment we decided to try eating here. Poor quality food, poor service and very dirty and outdated building. The bathroom were also very dirty. Many of the items offered on the menu were not available also. The rice was ok. I have no idea how this place stays in business. The mango lassi here is phenomenal. If you get nothing else, get the mango lassi. It's such a deep orange color... they use a ton more mango than most Indian places and I love, love, love it. The owner and his wife are very friendly. Our meal kind of took forever to cook... almost an hour before our food came out and we were there on a quiet Monday night. Having said that, everything was really great. I have no complaints... We ordered mostly vegetarian dishes and they were really delicious. Ordered two baskets of naan and went home with most of it because the naan baskets are very generous. Very relaxed atmosphere... mellow Indian music and the air smells a little like incense. The food was so yummy and honestly way more than we could eat. Could have easily shared an entree. I will define make this a repeat place. Only negative is the times need to be updated. It's nice to have the variety of another ethnic restaurant here in Cookeville, but I don't think this place is that special. It's kind of like Indian cafeteria food. We've had very inconsistent service. Our family has some dietary restrictions, and on more than one occasion our server was not able to communicate with us regarding the ingredients in a dish. Yes, the owners are friendly, which involved having one of their kids/grand-kids basically become a part of our dinner group on one occasion. read more
