Anytime that I order delivery something always happens with the order. Multiple times it has taken over an hour and a half to get our food. There was also a time that the delivery driver dropped off our food, and then came back to my door because he was not satisfied with the tip I gave him (I gave him a $5 tip and they also have a delivery fee). This time they charged my card, and then said they have no record of my payment, and called me back to charge my card again. The payment shows processing in my account already, so I am sure that I will be charged twice for the food. The food is okay, but not worth the price you have to pay for it. Nor is it worth suffering through the terrible/non-existent service. Had to wait 15 minutes to get water, just as long to order, then 30 more before we got our food. After finishing, we waited for about 30 min (dishes on the table and waters empty) before finally just leaving money on the table. Okay, so this is my very first review here on Yelp.com. I signed up, just so I could write a review for India Palace. Let me start by saying that I give their food a solid 3 1/2 stars. Every time I've eaten there, it's been delicious, but this is where India Palace gets off the 3.5 star bus and onto the 2 star bus. I've also seen them on the 1 star bus as well. As a frequent eater of food not cooked by my lovely wife. I have to say that India Palace has possibly the worst service of any restaurant that I've been to, ever. I've been there 4-5 times and every time I leave saying, "NEVER COMING BACK!", then my wife convinces me to give it another try...well, not anymore. Now my wife doesn't even want to go back and she's just about the most patient customer out there. Once we went with another couple and each couple had a coupon for "buy one entree, get one free", sweet! So, we suffered through miserable service(took them for ever to take our order, asked the waiter if I could get some kind of sauce for the rice and his answer was "no", none of us ever got a 2nd glass of water, etc). Okay, so then we get up to pay our checks and when we try to use these coupons, the dude at the register says (in broken English and rudely), "only one can use coupon". We said, "but we have separate checks and we each have a coupon". "No, only one use coupon", then he points to our friends and says, "I take coupon from them, next time". Holy Korma Balls Batman! So he would only let one of us use a coupon and told our friends that they could use theirs "the next time". My friends are very mild mannered people, but I could tell that it was all they could do not to yell, "F your next time!". So that's just one of the stories I could give about this place. This is my favorite #1 Indian restaurant. Not even Cali Indian restaurants are good as India Palace. I love one of their appetizer called Pakora! It's so good with their onion dip. I missed this place. If I am in Lawrence again, I will go here for lunch or dinner. Their chicken tandoori is so good too. I love it. It's so delicious. Why can't Cali Indian restaurants have food like this? I ate at a lot of Cali Indian restaurants to find the same taste as India Palace, but it doesn't taste the same. I even thought about getting someone to order the food from India Palace and fedexing the food to me through mail. Yeah, for me that's how good the food here is to me. Many people in Lawrence love this place but my experience has been in one word terrible. The buffet is super expensive for the miserable excuse of Indian food they serve. The smell of the spices they use makes me very suspicious about their quality. Regular menu dishes are exactly same as buffet, only about $10-$15 a dish. I have always enjoyed the food, especially the rogan josh. However, the service needs some serious work. The last few times I ate there, I never even knew who my server was because someone different would come to the table every time. The last time I was there, I finished my beer and never got the opportunity to order another drink. Nobody ever came back to the table after the food was dropped off, not even once- nobody asked us how the meal was, nobody offered boxes when we couldn't finish, nobody offered more drinks. Finally, we waited at the cash register for a hair short of a lifetime so we could just pay and leave. Finally, I tried to go back last week (because the tasty food is worth the lackluster service). My friend and I arrived at 9:20, nearly thirty minutes before they closed at 9:45. We had to flag someone down to try to be seated. We were asked of we wanted our food to go since they were closing soon (we were there half an hour before close!). This is my very favorite restaurant and it's where my husband and I go for anniversaries and birthdays. We always try something different but I don't think there's anything we haven't loved. The samosas are very good, and their curries are complex and flavorful. They are also pretty good with pinpointing your desired level of spiciness. I'm a big wimp and my husband prefers hothothot but we are almost always satisfied with how it comes out. With that said, the staff is sometimes questionable. My fiance is a graduate student at the University of Kansas, and every time I visit him, we go to India Palace. Of all the wonderful, local restaurants in Lawrence, this is my favorite. Haven't eaten here for over two years. I remember it being ok, but overpriced. A friend convinced me to eat there this weekend for the lunch buffet. It was ridiculously overpriced at $13 FOR LUNCH! But I gritted my teeth and went for it. I wish I hadn't! All three of us who ate there for lunch got really, really sick for the next 3 days straight! I have eaten here many times and never had a bad meal. The lunch buffet is good but they generally do not include any hot dishes since the general Midwestern population does not like hot food like they do in India or Thailand for that matter. I know some Sri Lankan Londoners who love this place. That alone says it all. Indian food in London is like pizza and burgers here in the states. The food was very good, but we dined with 2 friends and it took over an hour to get our food, not even an offer to refresh our drinks, we asked 3 times to get our naan and never did get it. the aggravation of the non-existent service means we'll most likely never go there again. If I could I would give them 3 and 1/2 stars. I've only been there for their lunch buffet which is usually busy. The food is absolutely delicious! The chicken tika masala (i might have spelled that wrong) is my favorite but I go there for the opportunity to try the other dishes that I've never tried before, The only negatives I have are the service is pretty terrible (which I'm betting is why they just leave a jug of water on the table, so the waitstaff doesn't have to visit the table often) and it's a little overpriced for my book.
