Delicious lunch buffet with tons of options. Always my go to spot when I'm in Lawrence!

I REALLY wish I could give them more stars, but the buffet is TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE. Their chicken makhani and veggie korma are the best I've ever eaten. I get excited when I walk in and see one or both on the buffet. Unfortunately, the dal and channa masala are extremely disappointing. I would eat here SO much more often if it were not so expensive. read more

Every time I come here I'm instantly in a better mood. The staff are friendly and the general ambience of the restaurant is homey and relaxing. I have learned/been reminded that sometimes service is very neglectful and very slow. I'm talking totally empty water glasses for 15 minutes before I found a server to ask for refills, and no one coming to take our order (during dinner) for TWENTY minutes! The rice pudding was very disappointing. They advertise that it comes with rasins and almonds in it (which it did not) and overcharge for a small ramican sized portion. Way to kill my craving :/ read more

The food was so delicious! We are for sure going to order from here, but the service was terrible. Everyone was really nice, but we stood in the doorway awkwardly for 5 minutes with nobody acknowledging us. Then we sat down and waited another 15 for anyone to take our order. Honestly, this place is great. The lunch buffet is exactly what you always want - all the basics with some interesting options too. Always stocked and fresh. Dinner can be more expensive, but it is good quality. booths and low lighting makes it relaxing, especially if needing a small break from a hectic day. The food is good, try the garlic naan for a buttery garlic magical time. I'm not as impressed as everyone else, though. It is passable, but over priced. The lunch buffet gives indian food lunch buffet is small. The tamarind sauce is not authentic (or at least not like any tamarind sauce i've had in cities). Very good Indian food, probably overpriced a bit, but when you are the only Indian restaurant in town, you can get away with that. Lawrence is too cool of a college town to not have more ethnic restaurants- we need another Indian place and another Greek/Mediterranean place (don't even get me started on the joke that is The Mad Greek.) The samosa is crisp, lamb vindaloo moist & exquisite. One of my favorite spots for lunch or dinner.

They were right. The chicken tikka masala was fantastic! I admit this place isn't the most beautiful restaurant but all the aesthetic problems can be overlooked because the food is really good! India Palace - Indian Near Me - Lawrence, Kansas

When I lived here years ago, I was never terribly impressed by this restaurant. This past weekend, though, I was in town and had a hankering for Indian food so my friend and I decided to try it out. We shared a Palace Platter appetizer that was very generous. For my entree I had the Malai Kofta (requested "hot" and definitely got hot!) and while I have had better, it was delicious. I also tasted my friend's Chicken Vindaloo (he ordered it at default spiciness and it was a tad bland considering that it's supposed to be spicy in the first place) and it was also quite good. The restaurant was very busy and so the hostess and waitstaff weren't as friendly in the beginning as they could have been, but I think that was simply because they weren't expecting that amount of business. The food here is excellent. The service, while slow at times, is friendly. I'm relative picky about Indian food (coming from a traditional Indian family with traditional Indian food) but this place is worth it. Newbies...try the butter chicken and coconut naan with a mango lassi. read more

My second trip to India Palace and both times have been really good. The indian food was the best I have eaten. The Naan was certainly the highlight of the meal. It was fresh and added to the evening of interesting conversation and delicious food. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala both times and both times it didn't disappoint. Our group of six ordered a variety of food and we all enjoyed the dishes. I think if you are interested in trying Indian food for the first time or a veteran lover of it you should really try India Palace. read more

The first time I went here the food was pretty bad the second time it was wonderfully delicious amazingly amazing, but the third time it was bad again. I don't think I would try this place again, the food is honestly kind of bland for Indian food most of the items where in a heavy cream sauce and a lot of them had the same similar flavor. Indian food is my favorite type of food because of the uniqueness in the flavor of each dish and the variety of vegetarian options but this place was just below standards for me and 28 dollars is a lot to spend on a buffet that's not that great I only gave it two stars because of the one time they did a good job. read more

Hands down the only place in Lawrence to get Indian food. I have never been disappointed with the quality of their food. My husband and I eat here at least two to three times a month. I've had Indian food many places and India palace is by far the best and most authentic. read more

Very disappointed on my visit today. Went in to have lunch with my girlfriend, we arrived about 1:40 which gave us just under an hour to each because on there website it stated that they were closed between 2:30 and 5:00 pm. Since I was not familiar with most of there meal options on their buffet option a sampler with a little bit of everything so we could figure out what we liked so we could decided what we wanted on our next trip to the buffet. Good thing we did because i didn't like a couple things. After figuring out what we liked we went back up to get the items we did like we were surprised by the fact that they had already removed all the options so we weren't able to get what we actually liked mind you it was only 2:10pm. We paid about $30 dollars for to plates and didn't even like most of the items we got it sucks that we paid all that money and didn't even get to get something we licked. Next time we are definitely going to wait for The bay leaf to be open. read more

Love the lunch buffet! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Lawrence. Selection is sometimes not the best, but most of what they have is very good, with some especially great items (love the chicken tiki masala and korma here). Come early or you may not get dessert (custard or rice pudding) or chai tea; they almost always seem to run out at the end of lunch. Dined here once for dinner (over a year ago) and received laughably bad/slow service - our server honestly seemed to be on drugs - only went to the buffet after that and haven't been disappointed in the service since. read more

Service Anyone? The first time I ever came in here I was immediately seated in a booth. I thought all was well until over 15 minutes went by without anyone even coming to the table. What was more strange and mysterious was that their server proceeded to wait on the two tables in front of me, but never even acknowledged my presence. I don't know what happened, if somehow I magically became invisible or camouflaged to my booth, but it was definitely a bizarre situation. Finally I got up frustrated and proceeded to walk out the door. To my amazement, the server FINALLY noticed me after all that time and said he was sorry. But by then I had had it. I simply replied, "I'm just sorry for coming in here" and left. Not quite sure what the issue was being that there were only 3 customers, including myself, in the entire restaurant at the time. A touch-up or two would go a long way with their wait staff. read more

I'd never had Indian food before visiting this place, so I wasn't sure what to expect. After doing some research and listening to friendly recommendations, I decided to go with the beef vindaloo. I was told that I should enjoy it if I like spicy things. I was a little disappointed when the dish had a little less spice and a whole lot of tang. But it still tasted great. And the garlic Nan was also delicious. Since I'm not familiar with the cuisine, I can't really vouch for authenticity. But it was good enough to keep me coming back. read more

I don't have a problem with the food, but the service has always been lacking, for the past twelve years I've been coming here. Today was the worst. I wanted to make an order for takeaway, but was on hold for over five minutes. I eventually hung up, and just won't return. We ordered delivery. It took over 2 hours and two phone calls to get cold, bad food. The manager told me he would take $20 off my next order during the second call. Food is great when you can actually eat it. Tonight we ordered via Grub Hub. Notification saying food was being prepared and should be delivered 7:45. At 8:15 we call to see what's up and they say a driver didn't come to work so no deliveries were going out. We get that things happen that are beyond control of owner, but not even getting a notification is unacceptable. Our food was never going to show up, and we didn't get a call or any other notification. Total fail on the customer service front. Might be spending more money at the place across the street. read more

Expensive. Especially as compared to the buffets in KC. I wish another place would open up in Lawrence to get the price at something reasonable. I would have eaten here a lot more (and thus spent more money in the long run), if it wasn't $12 a visit. On the upside, the food here is usually great. The masala tea (included in the buffet) is awesome. The staff has always been friendly, especially the guy who usually works the register--he's super nice! We ordered our food from India Palace through grubhub to be delivered. It arrived, we payed and the delivery man left. Then we found out they had forgotten one of our meals. We contacted the restaurant and they REFUSED to give us our money back or replace the meal. Meaning we payed for an entire meal that never came to us. I would definitely not recommend this horrible restaurant. Grubhub offered us the money for our meal and were more than helpful. read more

Anytime that I order delivery something always happens with the order. Multiple times it has taken over an hour and a half to get our food. There was also a time that the delivery driver dropped off our food, and then came back to my door because he was not satisfied with the tip I gave him (I gave him a $5 tip and they also have a delivery fee). This time they charged my card, and then said they have no record of my payment, and called me back to charge my card again. The payment shows processing in my account already, so I am sure that I will be charged twice for the food. I love their food, but their customer service and professionalism is completely lacking. read more
