It has its own name, it has its own road, it has its own area. The marina is, well, a marina. Where people will dock their boats for the summer. But ultimately for us that don't own a boat, it is a place where you can come and unwind. Sit on a bench, takes in the breeze, and bask in the sun. Fishing seems to be a past time that can be done here. Make sure that you stay aware of the parking situation. There is a lot that is specific for vehicles with trailers. Most vehicles will head to the left parking lot. One thing to take notice of here, the breeze. It can easily turn into a gust and hamper your day. Restroom facilities on premise, it is unisex so you will have to wait your turn. Ample parking. Great views.

The place up the street where I just bought the boat let me leave for a two hour drive back to Maryland with no trailer lights or safety chains connected or any basic advice on trailering the boat (like not being able to back up the trailer without a pin to lock the brake actuator- who knew?). The man who helped me at Shy Beaver knew. He was extremely nice and patient with me. He taught me a lot and I think he genuinely wanted to see me leave there safe. After getting my chains hooked up He even pieced my wiring together so it worked. He wouldn't even let me pay him. I really owe him more than I can write here. I try to return there every few years. It's a great place to take friends and family. Especially for the boating experience. The people that operate Seven Points Marina have always been pleasant to work with, knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. Safety is their foremost concern. I'm certain, God willing, that I will be returning again and again. :-) Everything about the 90HP pontoon boat rental was fun and as expected, but not without a few "glitches." The fuel gauge did not work (it was stuck significantly over the Full mark) which resulted in me returning to the dock to determine how much fuel I had used for the first half of the day. They topped off the tank and then I could gauge how much I was using and that I would not run dry for the balance of the day. I cannot understand why I was charged $17.24 more for the total cost for the day than the total of the invoice plus the 3% credit card fee that I agreed to. I'm reading in some other reviews that there may have been a 5% online booking fee that was not itemized and I don't remember reading about when I placed the booking. The receipt for the online booking that was emailed to me was not itemized and does not have the details necessary. But on the other hand, I knew that the rental was going to cost me close to $500 plus the cost of the gas that I used. Nevertheless, my guests and I had a wonderful time.

This place definitely draws a crowd around this time for a different reason than other seasons. So much so that when we were driving in, there were hoards of people near here which made for passing by to be a bit more difficult. With all the people parking along the road and on the bridge to walk down to this area. On our way back we decided to stop here and sneak a peak at what all those people were peeping on our way in. I understand why it was busier on a Sunday than midday on a Tuesday. See, this place, when the water is low, show the remnants of a town and the old bridge. It's not something you get to see each year, but when the conditions are right, you get to see it. Basically, when there is drought conditions, the water level drops enough for people to walk right out onto the old remnants and walk the part of the bridge that still remains. Usually, this is under fifty feet of water, but every so often you get a glimpse. When the water is this low you get to see the remnants of Somerfield (or Smythfield before the renaming), or at least the foundations to where buildings once stood. The town stood for over one hundred years before flood control came through and decided to build a dam which cause the demise of the town. Buildings were razed and the town flooded, bridge crossing included. The Great Crossings Bridge can be seen and if you are adventurous enough to attempt to walk on the old structure you may do so. The bridge itself has a storied past, completed the same year as the town was founded, part of the original National Road, and it was christened by the then President, James Monroe and his entire Cabinet. However, take it in while you can. When the Youghiogheny River starts to rise again, it will slip beneath the water until the next time it returns.
