It's been too long since I've been at Indian Twist. I almost forgot about the beauty of the restaurant, the friendliness of staff, the O.M.G!! menu. Now refreshed, I'll be back very soon. Met friends for dinner. We were fortunate to have Victor as our server. You know how you go to a very high-end restaurant and the sommelier knows the details and intimacies of each bottle? Victor is that sommelier, only in Indian food. He made suggestions, saw that our orders were perfect, and was just wonderful. Very personable, Victor made sure he was available but did not hover--very important in my book. We had a terrific meal in an Indian restaurant. Decor, service, food -- all superlative. We went as a party of 6, service was good initially but the server didn't come back to check if we needed anything more after giving out food. For the food we got chicken pakora and fried cauliflower as apps which were good. I got a drink called "Bollywood" which was described as a spicy cocktail but had no taste or kick. For the main course we ordered butter chicken, chilly paneer and lamb Rogan Josh. The latter two were good but the butter chicken was a major disappointment. It was red (food color) and the sauce was full of cream - the chicken pieces were chewy and stiff. I would mention the naan was really good; fluffy and very tasty. Gulab jamun for dessert was made with the instant mix that you can get in grocery stores. So overall, nice ambience etc but leaves a lot to be desired with respect to food. read more

My SO and I ordered a mango lassi, tandoori chicken appetizer, a garlic basil naan, the mango chicken entree, and butter chicken entree. We arrived here at 5:15pm. Just a heads up, service is reallyyyyyyy slow here. It took over 20 minutes for us to get an appetizer and it's not even busy at the restaurant yet. The mango lassi tastes delightful and is one of the best lassi I've had in Tucson. You can taste the hint of saffron and richness in the lassi. The tandoori chicken appetizer comes with two drumsticks and thighs, including veggies like onions and bellpeppers. The chicken was cooked perfectly and flavorful with a slight kick to it. I'd definitely recommend getting it. As for the entrees, they came out about 45 minutes after we ordered them. As I mentioned, you have to be really patient for your food here and don't come when you're extremely starving. The inefficiency is coming from the kitchen and I think it might be an issue they need to figure out, like what foods to make in advance or ways to decrease food production time. Anyways, onto more about the food. The mango chicken (medium spice level) definitely has a kick to it. It's a sweet curry and I LOVE it. Their butter chicken is also solid but the mango chicken is the star of this restaurant. The garlic naan was slightly burnt so you taste the burnt parts unless you douse it in the curry. The rice is nothing special and not even fluffy so they should probably work on that too. Overall, I'd come back for the mango lassi and mango chicken. This place has the best Indian food and lassi in Tucson, but be sure to allot like a good amount of time to actually get your food. Solid 4 stars! If they improve their waiting times, I'd maybe give it a 5 next time. UPDATE: I've since been back multiple times and their waiting time has improved! It's still slow when they're busy, but not terrible as it was when I previously reviewed the place. The mango lassi, garlic naan, and butter chicken are still excellent. On vacation with our son we were looking for an Indian restaurant near our timeshare condo. Indian Twist popped up on the search and was only a couple of miles away. The decor was modern and the restaurant clean. When we arrived we were greeted by Victor who was also our waiter. It was after lunch time and before dinner so the restaurant wasn't that busy. Victor provided excellent service and was very friendly. After appetizers of Vegetable Samosas and Vegetable Pakora, we also enjoyed the Shrimp Tikka Masala, Chicken Curry and Daal Makhni with orders of Garlic and Paneer Naan. We ordered the medium spice level which was perfect in providing a tasty level of heat for each dish. We would definitely come back again and that is the best recommendation we can give. read more

I was here with friends last night. Food was delicious just as any other Indian restaurant. Our waitress was awesome and patient. However, we had another male (Heavy set white dude) who was helping around. When picking up some of our plates, he grabbed a used plate from the next table occupied by customers and put it right in front of my friend. I asked why he did that. He said "I am gonna used it for the bones" lol I was digesting his answer and had no clue what in the world he was doing that for. He went around and with naked fingers grabbed all the bones left from the chicken drumsticks we enjoyed and put it in that same plate. We've been wanting to try india Twist since it opened. Finally got to go, and it sure is worth all the attention it's getting! It was busy during the lunch hour and a LOT of to-go orders were flying out the door. We were seated and they serve fresh poppadum with tamarind sauce and fresh chutney. Also lemon and mint infused water. Pretty good! We ordered a Lamb Kebab, a Butter Chicken, naan and raita. A meal is also served with rice. The lamb kebob dish was super good, lots of unique flavors and served sizzling hot like fajitas. The Butter Chicken was rich, deep, and perfectly spiced! amazingly tender chicken... The Garlic Naan is fresh, perfectly cooked. The raita is a very good quality and great as a spice or heat cooler. For dessert, who can possibly resist Gulab Jamon? Today an old friend and I went to Indian Twist for lunch. This was our first time to this restaurant. From the get go service was amazing. I get to the front door and a young man greeted me and welcomed me. He escorted me to a booth I picked out to sit in while I wait for my friend. After being seated it wasn't even 5 minutes and our waitress brought over fresh water and a basket of cracker like pieces. With the crackers came two different dips. Both were good. We looked at the menu. I did ask the waitress if they had lunch specials or a lunch menu. They did not. The menu is the same as the dinner menu which was ok by me. We ordered chicken Tikka Marcella,garlic Naan, and another chicken Dish. They both came with rice. We ordered medium spice which was not to spices which was good. The waitress came over several times to see if we needed anything. She was great! The place was really filling up at the time got around noon and 1 and 2. That was nice to see so many people for lunch. The inside was very nicely decorated. It wasn't too dark and the lights were soft. You can go in there casual or dressed. It didn't matter. The food was good, the service was even better. I'd suggest for you to have a lunch special or menu but seeing how many people came in for lunch as a business it's not necessary. I understand that. I came here in Feb during 2023 gem show with 2 Kashmiri men who had 2 booths at the Holidome Show, selling woven handicrafts from Kashmir. . All tables were taken so we sat on the dark outdoor patio, which had a heater. The service was really slow. Took a very long time, maybe 40 min before server even came to take.our order. If I wasn't with my friends, who were paying the bill, I would have left. Then, I was dismayed that my friends were vegetarian and ate very little, by my standards. I wanted lamb, so they didn't share my lamb. I did eat their orders but the serving size was so small, I felt like I was leaving them with crumbs to eat. But, they said they were "full". My Lamb Tika Masala lamb dish was so skimpy. When server brought small bowl of rice, I exclaimed "That's all???". She said, "You can have more if you want". Garlic Naan was OK. My friends ordered the okra dish, rice, and veggie dish.with paneer. I was still hungry after eating my lamb dish and rice. My friends ate fast and had to wait till I finished eating. They were antsy, saying "We had a very long day and another long one tomorrow", like we are waiting for you, and we wanna go. I can't believe this restaurant has such good reviews. I think the prices are high for what you get, which is unremarkable Indian food. Nothing for the 4.5 stars. We had to get after our server to bring us the bill so we could leave. I've had Indian food all over this country, and this is the second best restaurant I've ever eaten from. The other place is closed, so I guess this place has the crown now. We had: Lamb Rogan Josh - 10/10 excellent Lamb Biryani 7/10 - it could use mint, raisins and some roasted cashews on top, but that's the difference between a 10 and a 7. Really good, just not inspired. Kadai Chicken - 10/10 excellent Garlic Naan -- 9/10 really good. Probably would be a 10 in the restaurant, we got takeout. The perfect naan is a lil crispy on top because the tandoor sears the crap out of it. This was almost there. Overall it crushed. I'm gonna get a mango lassi next time. If they nail that, IDK even. Price was just fine - $60 for the above (including 3 orders of naan). We had enough left over for one really good leftover plate. read more

The manager noticed we asked for spicy food (we are pretty good to handle our spicy food) but it was very spicy to the point I could smell it as soon as it hit our table. We were able to eat some but the manager or owner came to our table and asked about our experience with the food. Yes, we told him we order spicy he said " when you order spicy we think you are serious"!! We laughed. Right away he offered to give us some yogurt to cut the spiciness of our plate; he also offered to do it himself which I agreed to it; to my surprise he make my order again but this time medium + ( I should order this before) he did the same for my husband. Best Indian food I have ever eaten. In town for the Gem Show and associates from India took us there and ordered for us. Chef was our waiter and explained to us Americans what was in the dishes. I wish I had something different to say about Indian Twist. It's been a long while since my prior review, and so considering all the positive reviews, it was worth giving them another shot. I ordered takeout from inside the restaurant. Service was lovely, with friendly help bringing me a decent glass of Sauvignon Blanc while I waited. It took a while to get my order, but nothing ridiculous. Unfortunately, while the portions were fairly generous, everything was really bland. We had veggie samosas and pakora, which we easily the best part of the meal- good texture! But both the chicken josh rogan and tikka masala left a lot to be desired. The sauce consistency was good, but even my "spicy" tikka masala was bland. The chicken in both was a little rubbery- nothing crazy but not great either. I really want to love this place for conveniently located midtown Indian but it just won't love me back. read more

I really liked it. The place is comfortable and lovely, it includes an outdoor patio facing north towards the Santa Catalina mountains and one is greeted warmly upon arrival. We were there on a Saturday evening but it wasn't too crowded, so service was prompt and correct. The menu is ample and it includes most of the Indian big hits. They also have a full bar and a selection of specialty cocktails that looked fun. I had the Hindiana Jones, which is reminiscent of a Manhattan on the rocks and was delicious. The food is graciously served, arrived piping hot and was what we expected, prepared carefully and presented elegantly. Pricing is downright modest for the overall quality and experience. Indian Twist isn't perfect, but it is darn good and no doubt, we'll be back with a group of foodies to explore it more fully. read more

I was blown away! I had low expectations because the name sounded like an Indian-American restaurant name. Indian Twist, what's the twist? But the reviews were all positive and I was meeting a central-Tucson friend so I decided to roll the dice. The service was great, everything I ate was fabulous, it was a comfortable environment. The server just brought papadum with 2 sauces. Best papadum I've ever had. I ordered veggie samosas and I liked them but they weren't wow. Good but just good. We shared chicken Tikka masala and lamb Rogan Josh. The server asked for spiciness. My dining companion had never had Indian food, so I ordered mild for the Tikka and medium for the lamb. I would order spicier next time. The lamb was phenomenal. So tender and not at all greasy or weirdly chewy like lamb sometimes is. The sauce was delicious. Rogan Josh has been my favorite since a long ago place in Monterey and this was equally good plus accessible! My friend was wowed. The chicken Tikka was good for chicken tikka. It would have benefited from being something else entirely. I really wanted vindaloo but that's probably not a first-timer dish. Now I have to go back for vindaloo! We also had aloo (potato) Naan which was tasty but it's not a specialty. I love the curried potatoes in the samosas and the Naan. Indian Twist got them to taste different which was impressive. Service was good. We got boxes in the right combination to rescue everything. I got a diet coke refill without asking. We got plenty of minted water. The bill came right when we wanted it. Things weren't too expensive. It's not cheap since dishes were $17 or so. I left happy. The portions are medium size. With 2 women we had about half of each dish left. I didn't get mango Lassi. I would have liked to taste it, but it's so filling I wouldn't eat anything else afterward. We didn't get Chai or dessert. They had a large cocktail menu (which we didn't try) and non-alcoholic drinks were listed in the menu with prices. I'd get Chai next time and drink the minted water for digestion. I really enjoyed my experience here. Would definitely eat here again. I'd probably order 2 dishes even if I went alone because the leftovers are that good. This place is so yummy; that I never regret the money spent on feeding the whole family. We get it all the top favorites you know and love . We almost always order vegetarian but we also love the lamb and chicken no matter what you get it's always good. Just be prepared to hand over a bit of cash for this best in town (for for those who live north and east of the university ) Side note: the family are good people too; I am relieved they survived Covid19 bc we all know what it's like to lose a good place we depended on for those nights out with our favorite comfort food or when we need something special and different ...Indian Twist is one of those places I prayed for during that time bc if they had gone away ; I would have been very sad and I probably would still be looking for that "nothing will be as good" as Indian Twist replacement . This is a beautiful restaurant that is adhering to social distancing practices while serving unbelievably amazing food. I've only started liking Indian food very recently, and I actually had a dream about this restaurant after reading the menu before going. I knew the dining experience would be great, but what we had exceeded expectations. First, there's a full bar. Surprise and yay! I had a cab, and my husband had an IPA. Because I had studied the menu, my husband agreed that I could order (another yay.). Before we ordered, water and a type of tasty cracker were brought to us (sorry that I don't know the name). I ordered butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, okra do-pyaza, and naan. While we waited for our dinner, we admired the beauty of the restaurant and the show in the kitchen. Have you ever seen naan being made? Well, it is intriguing! And the way the chefs work together is amazing! Then dinner was served! The dishes were beautiful! The colors were beyond compare. And then the taste!!! We ordered most of the dishes hot, and we were not disappointed. The meat was tender, the sauces were vibrant, and the smell was amazing. They tasted even better. And the naan - soft pillows of ghee-topped goodness to sop up those delicious sauces. Yum! And then dessert - we had to. My husband has pistachio kulfi (an Indian ice cream) and I had kheer (an incredible rice pudding-like dish). I could have licked the bowl. No really, I could have. This restaurant was recommended to me as the "most authentic" East Indian restaurant in Tucson. So of course I had to try it. I got the lamb biryani, and it was enough food for dinner and 2 or 3 lunches Good thing I really liked it; none of it will go to waste. Excellent papadam is offered after you order, but my friend and I decided to get garlic naan as well. I was surprised that it was served with entrees instead of as an appetizer, so we never finished it. It was delicious, but it wouldn't reheat well, so that was a shame. It's not a 5 because the service was slower than I expected (early Sunday evening), and their iced tea was really watered-down.
