Great idea having a bunch of containers made into restaurants, with communal seats. Kind of like a bunch of Food trucks, but they are all permanent. Really gorgeous area and that would have been worth 5 stars. We had decided on the Spice Box as we really don't have any good Indian restaurants where we live. The Butter Chicken was more like Chicken Curry. Nothing like any Butter Chicken I've ever tasted before. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't Butter Chicken, which is what we ordered. And the Naan! That's where they really lose points. It was one of those grocery store naans that you put in your toaster! Nothing like a real Indian Naan. I guess there's no room for a tandoor oven in a container, but seriously, I can't believe that any self respecting Indian Chef would serve that up and say it's a naan. Let's hope the next place we try is better than this. Very disappointed. read more

Spice box is the 5/5 package. Excellent food, Excellent service and Excellent people working. My wife and I had the Paneer Tika Masala, Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan. I like spicy and got the top spicy one. I would say it was a 5/10 spice wise but excellent flavor. read more

This is definitely my favorite spot to go for chicken tikka masala. Fun atmosphere at the yard box or just get great Indian food to go! My husband and I split one dish from each restaurant at the yard box and we loved Spice Box so much we came back less than a week later to have it for dinner again. Hit or miss Tonight I paid 11 plus tax and tip for garbanzos poured onto rice, nothing else as per the photo, without enough sauce, and the sauce was mediocre. Last night it was fine so I came back. Now it will be some time before I come back, maybe after my beer has diluted my senses. OTOH you get to sit in a cool spot and hey, it's Indian food. read more

Well I've eaten down at the box cars a couple times while today I was down on fourth Avenue and I seen a new new food truck and I said spice box it was Indian I said you know something and it's it's food by cinnamon twist same people or maybe new owners and what not but you know something the food is off the fucking hook it is the menu should be a little bit bigger but guess what for right now it's great the food needs a little bit more spicy I think it needs a little bit more !! little bit more curry a little bit more coconut or coconut the rice off the hook the service off the hook very fast service good prices I would recommend it highly highly again next time I have a party I'll have them cater the food that's how much I love it and I'm from New York we know about having a good good Indian read more

This place is incredible! Some of the best food I've had. I tried the veggie samosas, mango chicken, and paneer tikka masala. They were all fantastic, with the mango chicken being my personal favorite. Definitely enough food to fill you up! I also felt like the spice levels (mild, medium, spicy) were accurate. Today was my 1st time going here and I LOVED the expierence. Given the COVID situation we are always on the look out for a place to go out to eat that is safe. The Boxcars area fits that perfectly. Covered Outdoor dining with a breeze, tables spaced out well, cozy patio like feeling. Now on to the food and "employees". I tried the Mango Chicken. I liked it a lot. The menu bills it as chicken in a mild mango sauce. Yep, creamy orange sauce with a hint of sweet mango. The employees I think were the owners. They did a good job of checking in on how we liked the food. Nice. The prices were similar to other Indian restaurants. Maybe a $1.00 or so cheaper per menu item. $1.00 Naan and $2.00 garlic naan! Minus 1 point for not having Gulab Jamun for a dessert. If you want 5 Stars then you need Gulab Jamun. The owners said that business could be better. So, if you like Indian in a COVID SAFE atmosphere, rush down here and keep these two folks in business! I always get the Tikki Masala and it's so delicious. Full of flavor and the basmati rice is great, plain without the cumin seeds and I love that. Their naan is tasty as well. Like other people who have reviewed this place, I had a similar experience with their staff being extremely rude after I asked if their food was Halal. It definitely seems to be a pattern of discriminatory and aggressive behavior from this place. If that's how they treat other people, I can't imagine the care they give to their quality of food, etc. Stay away from this place and try another place. read more

I needed carryout to take back to my hotel and Indian sounded good. I ordered the paneer tikka masala with garlic naan. I sat out in the lovely, quirky courtyard awaiting my order watching people and especially the dogs; love it when dogs are welcome. Anyway, my food traveled well to my hotel and was delicious. Second time coming back and Spice Box did not disappoint! My group and I have now tried the Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, & Chana Masala -- all which come in generous portions with rice and were creamy & delicious. We always order with a side of butter naan which is freshly made and warm. I just called to get information on whether the food served is halal or not. The woman who picked up the phone was incredibly rude, and said "you can come and read our specs on the Menu yourself. We're closed. Thanks, bye" and proceeded to hang up. I just got off the phone (9:30 pm) and the hours listed online says closes at 10pm. Honestly, I didn't want to even place an order because I noticed they close soon - i just wanted to ask a simple question. The lady who picked up the phone was so incredibly rude. Spice Box made noticeable improvements to the previous existing Indian menu (which was good from the start). A family run business, they greet customers warmly and deliver savory well portioned meals. My go to is butter chicken with garlic naan. Don't skip on the samosas! Hang out in the Boxyard courtyard for a beer. Can't go wrong. read more

I loved the couple who own the place,so nice! The samosas were fabulous and the sauce was the perfect heat. We had vegetable and chicken tikka masala which were both very well spiced.All nice portions and very tasty. The only complaint was the naan. Very dry and tasteless which was a disappointment. I have not been to this restaurant before, however, I had called ahead to see if their meat was halal (which it's not), BUT the person who answered was EXTREMELY rude, claiming we had called plenty of times before. What doesn't make sense is that many Muslim folks may be calling so they can see if halal meat is offered, and being rude was not the way. read more

This is located in a little shipping container food court that seems to be anchored by a bar. There is a nice outdoor seating area that is quite pleasant. Unfortunately, the food here was just ok. What threw me right off the bat was the samosas. They were good, but instead of being served with the chutneys I am used to, they came with a sweet and sour sauce that seems like it is right out of a Chinese egg roll take out packet.
