The main meals were labeled, the smaller dishes and condiments were unlabeled so we had no idea what we were trying. We had to ask for the naan and dosas that come with the meals. It was nice to see a mix of different nationalities here, even better to know that local Indian folks were flocking here and obviously enjoying the food. Food is pretty average. But I have a story about the service. Ordered a cake for my parents anniversary on Wednesday, asked for them to have it ready by Thursday at 6PM. They say no problem. I show up the next day to pick it up. Place is basically dead but the waiters are walking around not even acknowledging me waiting at the counter. Guy finally asks me what I want, tell him I wanna pick up the cake, they go look in the back and first tell me that someone already picked it up. Weird but I ask them to check again, then they come back and tell me that we ordered it for Friday. Told him I said Thursday and he starts arguing with me. Then he starts joking with me and asks why I look so mad? Am I supposed to smile at you for messing up my order and then arguing with me? Then the dude tells me to come back in half an hour and he'll have the cake ready for me. I sit and chill and he comes out 15 minutes later with a cake with the writing on it. Looks fine to me in the store, so I let it go, pay, and leave. Later that night, we all try the cake and it's completely stale. We used to go here for the Wednesday night buffet, but we stopped going. Mainly because of cleanliness. The place is dirty, so makes me wonder how clean their kitchen is and their sanitary practices when cooking food. The food tasted decent and we never got sick after eating here, but brown stains on the ceiling that was never cleared off, splattered food on the mirror behind the buffet serving area that was never cleaned off either, dirty walls, dirty bathrooms... We only kept going here because it was close and it was cheap. Oh, another thing that bothered me about this place is that they stopped serving one of my favorite items. I used to love their chicken tikka masala, but it had been months since they had it as an option on the buffet. Also, what is up with all their curries having BONE IN chicken and meats? I tried this place after trying to branch out from my obsession with Coriander a few minutes down the road. We went for buffet, they had a lot of options, and most of the food was tasty. Their winning dish was the chicken tikka masala. The palak paneer was also well done. However: 1. Lunch was supposed to end at 3pm, but by 2pm the dishes were empty and the rice was hard and crispy. They finally refilled the rice, but we were already finished eating. 2. This place is super dirty - like borderline FILTHY. The buffet table had globs of food all over it and each of the serving pieces felt sticky and grimy. The plates that the serving spoons were resting were covered in food; they should periodically clean that area during buffet time. I should have walked out as soon as I saw how incredibly gross that buffet table was. There is NO WAY that the people running this restaurant CAN'T TELL how extremely unappetizing the entire table looks. The floor was covered in rice. Like covered. Someone could have definitely swept it up the 100x any of the employees walked right over it, but they simply chose not to. The mirrors behind the buffet are foggy and streaked, and the restaurant walls are severely scuffed. There are stains everywhere. The front cashier table was messy and covered in spilled fennel. The front table had crumbs everywhere and quite a mix of disorganized papers. 3. The employees were not friendly. We weren't even offered drinks; they only served us water. With the knowledge that South Jersey does not have great Indian restaurants, our expectations were somewhat subdued, even before we placed an order. Even with minimal expectations, our experience was incredibly disappointing to say the least. The Chicken Tikka which is one of the staples of Indian cuisine was over cooked while the Biryani, one of the most important entrees in Indian cuisine, was undercooked. The food is real Punjabi food. We just had a to-go experience so didn't try all the things. You can have a to-go box from the buffet at the price of the buffet and not weight based, which is a nice(weekday dinner buffet $9.99). Tandoori Chicken - The best tandoori chicken around all the Indian restaurants. Chicken Manchurian - very nice blend of spices. 5 stars for this one. Paneer was good too. Naan - Perfectly cooked. The spice was right where it needed to be and it didn't taste bad at all, but not my favorite. The naan was good, nice and soft with some crunch around the edges. We come here on Wednesdays because the bf really likes the buffet. I honestly don't think it's the best Indian food around; I've had better but this is his first and only experience with Indian food and he likes it. I don't fight him about it much since I'm glad he is thinking outside the box and trying something "exotic". To make this average buffet food even worse is the fact that it is so crowded on Wed. and service suffers tremendously. No one stops by to ask us if we want drinks anymore. Food: The food was quite good. My group had vegetable samosas, naan, hyderabadi chicken dum biryani, chicken makhni, and chicken tikka masala. The Samosas are standard, don't waste your time with them because you can find better ones anywhere. They only sell vegetable samosas (it filling consists of peas and potatoes). The naan is freshly made but it can be minutely burnt at the edges and base, making it slightly crispier. I personally did not mind it and thought it made the naan better and tolerable from the soft monotony. I really did not enjoy the naan size pieces, however. They were triangles which to me insinuates that the store is part of the Illuminati. The size also looked like I was eating slices of pizza at Chuck-e-Cheese. The Biryani reminded me of home. I am personally from Hyderabad and it hits the 'Dum' aspect quite well; yeah, I am an expert. The rice, spices, and chicken were well made and produced a good blend of taste. Take my advice when I say you should squirt lemon on your rice. It takes the taste to a different level! Also, to restaurant people, you don't put one small slice of an egg in one bowl of Biryani. That is how you start fights among siblings. Be generous with your egg. Chicken Tikka Masala was alright. There was nothing special about it despite making it absolute spicy. It was my least favorite of all dishes but I still ate a lot of it with naan. lol. Chicken Makhni was my favorite among all dishes. A good amount of butter, gravy, pieces of chicken, went perfectly well with naan. GET THIS! Service: The waiters were chill. The absolute worst thing about the service was the wait, WHICH WAS FOR 40 MINUTES! We received the samosas as appetizer in the first five minutes, whose speed took me by surprise, but I absolutely hated waiting for the entrees. We received nothing in those 40 minutes! Me and my brother were very close to losing our patience and this close to cussing at the waiter. Once the food arrived all together like an assembly line of workers in a clothing factory, it was all chill. Price: All entrees must be or are above $8 to $9. Expect yourself to spend close to $100 if you are a group of four to five people. Environment: Family friendly location. Hindi pop music plays on the televisions. Entrance has baked goods, cakes and pastries, where the register is. Many tables available. There is a buffet line present at the end row of tables. Long, horizontal mirror is also available to check out how fat you have become after your meal. Cleanliness: Tables, chairs, floors and utensils are clean for the most part. The area to restroom is shabby but you are not going to eat there so it shouldn't be a problem. I like everything about the restaurant except the wait. I suggest getting big appetizers so you're not hungry and losing patience while the entrees are being cooked. It should work in my opinion. 4/5. A point off due to the wait. The lunch buffet is great for the price. There's a 10 percent discount available on Spotluck. If you are lucky, 20 percent. I paid around $20 including a tip for two of us using the Spotluck discount. The naan is very good. There's usually chicken tikka, tandoori chicken, a lentil dish, some kind of vegetable (eggplant), and something with paneer cheese (saag paneer). I loved the chicken tikka. The decor is simple. I have ordered from Indian Villa many times. I always get the same thing - MC20 (chicken makhani). Last night I ordered take-out and while I was eating I found a piece of fish in my dinner. I do not eat seafood at all and to find fish in a chicken dish was very shocking and unacceptable. I emailed the restaurant and called. The woman I spoke to apologized and let me know that she would forward my concern to the owner. I received an email from the owner today that simply said "not possible". Yes, a two word response dismissing what happened. I have no reason to make this up. I love their food. Unfortunately I will no longer be a customer. Food (3.5): can be good, can be mediocre, depending on what/how you order. At lunch buffet, meats are usually good while vegetables are not. They had dal, potatoes and cabbage, which are literally the cheapest things possible and didn't taste great. Chicken makhani was good but had way to much food color. Veg Manchurian is good. The best indian restaurant around this area (though definitely not the best in NJ - you have some pretty good ones in Edison). You will like the Nan and Panneer butter masala / Baingan Bartha. Their Buffet is average.. In all, I would have been here more than 10 times (once a week in general)..But I have never ended up dis-satisfied. I ordered through grub hub, and they charge a 5$ dekivery fee and then STOLE my tip to the driver that you can add to your order online. GRUBHUB even says that tip line is meant for the driver. One of the major problems with Indian Villa is its extremely long wait time for you to receive your food. The restaurant only had 5 tables occupied by guest, but I didn't receive my food for over an hour, and when the food started come to come out, the guest at my table and I didn't receive all of our dishes at once. I wouldn't even give this place one star if I was able to. My husband and I went there on a Thursday night (not busy at all, just us and another family). The waiter brought out the water pitcher and cups and we asked for straws since the cups looked questionable in terms of the cleanliness. He literally rolled his eyes at us and did not give us straws. About five minutes later, I got up and went to the front where they have the cakes and asked the other guy (who by the way was on his personal cell phone talking away as I stood there waiting to be acknowledged) and he ultimately gave me two straws. Our waiter brought out the salted lassi I had ordered, slammed it on the table and threw a straw next to it. Needless to say, the service alone would deter me from ever stepping foot in this place. Now for the food-- we ordered the vegetable Hakka noodles, garlic naan, and vegetable korma. The garlic naan was thin and there was no taste of garlic (or any flavor at all). The vegetable korma was average, not really memorable. The Hakka noodles were overly salty and that's what ruined the taste. Not once did our waiter come by to ask us if everything was okay or if we needed anything, but he surely had no problem walking around talking loudly on his phone. Finally we had enough and we were ready for the check. He came by, took our plates (and leftovers) and walked away. We literally sat there looking around waiting for him to bring us our check for (no exaggeration) 18 minutes, until I once again went to the guy in the front to ask him for our total so we can pay. We probably would have overlooked the small things in taste and built up the courage to give this place another try, however the attitude of the waiter and the rudeness by which we were treated was ridiculous. With plenty of other options to choose from nearby, you'd think they would get their act straight and treat the paying customers with some respect. After passing by here a million times, I decided to finally give it a try. Actually, I was really craving goat curry and didn't have the energy or motivation to actually MAKE it. Let me start by saying that since I've discovered a cute little "Mom-and-Pop" operation named "Nimit Palace" just a few miles down the street, I haven't gone anywhere else for my desi food fix. So, naturally, this place would have to "wow" me in order to attain my business. I gotta say, I'm pleasantly surprised. At first glance, one (being desi) doesn't have too high of hopes for a desi bakery (thought it would taste like the dried up cakes you get "back home.") I got my much-craved goat curry, butter chicken, bhindi and a slice of some really good-looking mango cake. O.M.G. That cake was, hands-down, THE BEST thing I've ever eaten! Not only was it delicious, but it's so light and fluffy (even the icing) that I don't feel like a major cow after eating a slice. Yum! As for their curries; the portions aren't any larger or smaller than most other Indian places but....the goat curry actually had some nice large pieces of MEAT (not 90% bone and 10% meat.) The pricing is about the same as most other nearby places and I'm sure, if I had ordered the food to be "spicy", it would've tasted better. I ordered mild and it actually was MILD.
