A bonus is that it serves up traditional North Indian cuisine, as almost every other Indian restaurant in the area has menus that are more noticeably centered around South Indian cuisine, which utilize different recipes despite an overlap in some of the dishes offered. We started off with an order of onion pakoras (4/5). While they are a bit larger than those served at other Indian restaurants, they are well above average in quality and a great way to start off a meal. For meals, we went with the paneer masala and navratan korma. Both dishes were served in a generous portion filled to the rim of the serving bowls. The paneer masala (5/5) was prepared to perfection with just the right amount of spice and delectable tomato-based gravy, and among the best I've had among Indian restaurants in New Jersey. The navratan korma (5/5) was also flavorful and delicious with a nice medley of vegetables. The butter naan (4.5/5) was delicious and fluffy, just the way I like it, although a tiny corner of it was a bit overdone (didn't detract from the taste of it). Service (5/5) by Anil was excellent, as he was warm and friendly throughout the meal, checking in on us to ask if we needed additional rice or anything else. My wife and I have lived all over the U.S. and love Indian restaurants. New to the Cherry Hill area, we one day stumbled upon Indian Villa -- hidden in a unglamorous strip-mall next to a Dollar Tree. Seeing the place packed with Indians (always a good sign), we took a try and have been back countless times since. Much better than many other Indian restaurants (NYC, Philly, D.C., Detroit), I feel I'm getting a home- cooked Indian meal here. The flavors, the spices, the freshness. Outstanding!! I've introduced the joint to many of my friends. They've all become fans of this unpretentious place we affectionately call "The Villa." Even my kids love it. Very highly recommended. Human beings are funny that way. So for Father's Day, my wife booked a table for six at Mount Masala in Voorhees. This turned out to be an act of touching optimism. When we arrived on a Saturday night, only three other tables were occupied. We could have brought a small marching band and sat immediately. Still, the staff was warm, the room was pleasant, and we decided to order family style. Civilization occasionally gets things right. The sizzling chicken momo arrived first, hissing and steaming like a diva. Sadly, the spectacle outperformed the substance; it was essentially good food wearing a sequined jacket. The chicken tikka momo, however, was outstanding. They were tender dumplings smothered in a sweet, familiar tikka sauce that my boys attacked with an enthusiasm usually reserved for free money. My youngest ordered the chicken makai soup and delivered a concise, pro-level critique: "It's fine." My oldest enjoyed his tofu Manchurian, though his eyes kept wandering to better plates. The beef skinny noodles and chicken Hakku Bakku chowmein were massive and well-made, but they lacked personality. The chowmein tasted like a very good lo mein. Nothing wrong with that, just predictable. The undisputed star was the chicken choyla. It was smoky, spicy, and rich with mustard oil. If the other dishes were polite small talk, the choyla was the eccentric guest telling stories nobody had ever heard before. Everyone at the table kept reaching for it. As for the service, the staff was incredibly friendly but possessed a unique talent for vanishing. Despite the empty room, refilling water and securing extra napkins became a minor side-quest. But then the bill arrived: $120 for six people. These days, taking the family out can feel like financing a small yacht, so this felt like a genuine bargain. Fortunately, the Wednesday special made it more enticing and convenient to finally check it out,especially when I live about half an hour away from the restaurant. Needless to say, I was NOT disappointed. Desi food is honestly one of my favorite foods even though my spice tolerance is not that high. I ordered mild for everything, but it was still super flavorful with a little zing. Everything I ordered was superb! We started with the papdi and samosa chaat- papdi is definitely the fan favorite! Crispy, flavorful, and filling! Tried the lamb birria tacos and it was soooo tasty! My 8 year old daughter loved it too and she's picky with tacos. She especially enjoyed dunking the taco into the delicious broth. A little on the spicy side, but so incredibly delicious. My daughter also got the butter chicken (which is also now my favorite) and I ordered the bhengan bharta (eggplant) and it was BOMBDOTCOM! I absolutely love eggplant, and this went so well with the garlic naan. I could literally eat this everyday!!! Since I'm also a big back apparently, I also ordered the Blanket Kabob, with the intention of giving it to husband but of course I had to take a bite for myself. The owner, Suma, took our order and made sure our food came out as we liked (even easing up on the spice level). She was very kind and accommodating. Decor inside was fun and inviting. We loved all the neon signs, as well as all the Ramadan decor! Only drawback to this day was that their Tandoor cook was out sick so we weren't able to have any naan or any other tandoori dishes. No problem at all - we'll just have to come back to try!
