Very quiet, spacious sites. Everyone is very friendly. Exactly what we need to recharge our batteries. We will be back.

Blueberry Hill is a private campground tucked into the Myles Standish State Forest in Plymouth. My…read moregrandfather was one of the founding campers in 1959, my family started camping there when I was six, and we had a permanent site by 1968; my brother has that site now. "Permanent" constructions aren't allowed. You can put campers and tents there, and build frames of 2x4s, canvas, mesh netting and fiberboard that have the appearance of a cabin. People park refrigerators, tables and appliances there, and generally stay throughout the season, which runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There's a pond for swimming, fishing and sailing, forests in which to hike, a recreation area with a basketball court and other amenities. The sites are seasonal leases (no short term camping) and can roll over year-to-year, and Site #12 isn't the only one that's been in the hands of one family for fifty years or more. Contact the owners to get on the waiting list for an opening, but understand that preference is often given to the families of current or old-time campers. Times have changed, some, and now water and electric hookups have replaced the propane-fired refrigerators and send-the-kids-to-the-public-taps-with-jerricans of my youth. More people are there weekends-only and fewer live there all summer long. But it's still the home of my heart, forever. And if you can get your own site, thank your lucky stars. It'll be one of the best things that ever happened to you.

Last evening arrived at Pinewood Lodge for my third year as a full time camper. Having travel here…read morefrom Florida to say the least I was exhausted. As I entered the office to register I was greeted by Jody who said to me "welcome Hime". That picked up my spirits quite a bit. As I was driving here I thought about my site and how to back in was a hill which I thought could be a bit muddy which it was. As I was guided in by Geoff one of the great crew and an RV tech I got stuck and bogged down in the mud. Things look bleak at that point and we talked about getting a tow truck to move my 45' coach. Suddenly the Calvary arrived and we and they devised a plan to free me up. Oh did I say it was raining quite hard. After two hours using planking and more digging I was freed. Now they decided to put me in a pull through for the night which I did. Now the plan is to wait until the ground dries a bit and go back to the site I love. Bottom line I e traveled all over North America and never had the service I get here and always with a sincere smile. They always seem to know what to do to make the customer feel happy and satisfied. The main difference here I believe is the fact it's a family run facility third generation and it's not the same as being a name and number in a corporate campground. The point I'm making is recommend anyone to stay here at Pinewood Lodge. I'm here and hope to be for time to come. The amenities and activities are wonderful. So I hope this review helps people looking for a campground close to Cape Cod and convenient to travel to Boston would consider them. Happy Camper

We recently stayed at Myles Standish State Forest on site J26 in the Barretts Pond loop, and…read moreunfortunately, it wasn't quite what we expected. The site itself is situated at the top of a steep hill, which is not ideal if you have a car that sits low to the ground, our vehicle bottomed out trying to park, making it basically unusable for us in that spot. To make matters worse, the path to the site doubles as an access point to another campsite. So even if you could manage to park there, chances are high that your neighbors will end up parking in that same pathway, making it extremely difficult--if not impossible--for you to get to your site conveniently. It definitely felt like the layout of this area wasn't thought through for ease of access. The bathrooms in this loop left a lot to be desired. During our stay, they were extremely dirty and, at one point, there were a few hours without water or electricity. That said, there were a few positives. The small swimming pond in this section of the campground was actually quite charming. It's private to those staying at the loop, which makes it feel peaceful and far less crowded compared to other parts of the forest that have public access. It was nice to be able to relax there without the usual campground chaos. Overall, the serenity of the area was nice, but the site setup, parking issues, and bathroom conditions really took away from the experience. If you're considering this loop, especially site J26, I'd recommend looking into alternative spots within the forest that might be easier to access and are better maintained. I've been coming here for years and have had many experiences both good and bad. Check-in can take awhile, and lines can get long which is brutal in the heat, then your met with some people at the counters with attitudes that leave more to be desired. I'm sure there are better places to camp, but it is a staple.

Wonderful place for dry camping. Sites do not have electric but generators are allowed. There are…read morewater spigots every few sites and accessible bathrooms with warm showers. The camping sites are deep in the forest, in fact it's bout 5 miles from the entrance to camping sites. Roads are paved and my own problem is having to constantly contend with bicyclists. (Read up on MA state law regarding bicyclists -- they have more right of way than I thought they did!) Be cautious of Masac. I saw the signs and didn't know what it was until I stumbled across the building one day. Yes, there is a prison facility in these woods!! Maybe that's why they have state park rangers at each camping "gate", and I fully appreciate that!
