Just moved here recently and found out about Indie Coffee Roasters at the Carmel Farmer's Market. This is my favorite coffee ever!!

Not gone lie.... I've been dreaming of going back to this place! The BUMBLE Bee is to DIEEEEE FOR.. well not die for real but you get the point . My 2022 hobby is to visit local coffee establishments. indie Coffee Roasters has been checked off the list! I visited on a Monday ( MLK day) and there were limited seating ( that's a good sign) available. I was grabbing my drink to go so no biggy. I always ask for recommendations as this is the easiest way to get to the most popular menu items versus trial and error .. lol The barista suggest the Bumble Bee as they had just brought this drink back.. Unfortunately I can't recall what's all in it ... but KNOW THIS! I was done drinking it ALL in 10 mins... iThe flavor profile is simply amazing and your taste buds will be screaming for more. Unfortunately it only came in size small.. but it is a beautiful curated coffee beverage! I will be back yess... driving from the Westside of the city to indulge again. I just can't keep quiet about this place. I will start with good because there is so little. The design and the location are fantastic. If you're looking to get some work done, look no further. Their teas are also great. I really like their iced earl gray. A little lemon and that would be a perfect summer refreshment. They also have some great gear. Mahlkoenig E80 and a Modbar on deck. Too bad they have no idea how to use it. First of all, they don't weigh out their beans so they have no idea how much goes into the portafilter, which would probably explain why one of my iced latte shots looked like a Bellagio fountain with all of the channels. Like holy crap, did you put the correct amount and disperse it properly?! They're using WDT and a palm tamper. You really gotta have things out of whack to screw it up that bad. Then there comes the shot which I assume is volumetric, but considering the two shots took widely different volume of the shot glass, I'd say that last time that was calibrated was decades ago and not this morning. The result? Mud in a cup. Honestly such a waste and frustration. I'm afraid to buy their beans for my machine at home. I feel that if this is their attention to detail here, their attention at the roaster will be similar. Run away. read more

If you are in Carmel and looking for a robust, hit of java head to Indie Coffee Roasters. I happen to be a fan of the clean, line, industrial look of their simple black & white decor and there were plenty of people this wintry Saturday morning but it didn't feel crowded. I ordered the Cortado - a 1:1 espresso-milk short drink (about 4 ounces). The milk added a soft, creamy texture to the no-nonsense roasted espresso. I like a little sweetness with my coffee so I added a packet of brown sugar and it was just the caffeine jolt I needed. Indie Coffee Roasters, as the name suggests, does roast their own beans. They have beans, mugs, and other merchandise for sale. There are also a few tasty treats. My next visit I will try one of the signature drinks. This place has a such a fun atmosphere! Their hot coffee is a bit strong for my taste, but I enjoy getting the iced coffee at the Carmel Farmer's Market during the summer! I also recently had their London fog latte, and it was super delicious! I'll keep testing more menu items, as I live very close! read more

Delicious coffee! I ordered one of their seasonal signature called pumpkin patch and it had so many fall flavors balanced well in a cup; pumpkin, apple etc. The space is very cute too, great place to lounge and get work done or study. Coffee is pricey but flavors and taste is delicious! read more

There are too few of places like Indie Coffee Roasters in Carmel. When I lived in an exurb of Portland, OR there were so many small businesses in the community where I could go and run into friends. I knew most of the names of shop owners who ran the ice cream place, plant store, and bakery. Indie Coffee Roasters is the only place in Carmel where I have had a similar experience (to be fair it has been the pandemic). And the coffee is good too! A higher level of coffee than anywhere else in Hamilton County (in my humble opinion). They roast well and come up with some really creative signature drinks. Be aware that seating is usually hard to come by as people claim a spot and make a day of studying and sipping coffee. read more

This is our first time here and really like it so far. We got a Mocha, a Lattè, and a nitro cold brew. The flavors are mild with a little hint of acidity which is t overpowering. The milk work in the hot drinks are very well done and show a lot of style. The place itself is really nice, a little echoing due to the hardwood floors but a great place to come relax and enjoy a cup and a hook, or a crocheting project as my wife is doing. read more

This coffee shop is setup in a former house just a few blocks east of the Main Street shops in the Arts & Design District. They have a friendly staff and black and white sleek interior with lots of windows for folks who want to stay awhile. I grabbed a spot along the street just a few spots down and climbed the stairs into the shop. The order counter is straight back with a menu on the wall to your left of the counter. Seating is available for groups at 4top and long tables. They also have a couple comfy chairs, but mostly, it is laid out for folks who need a table to work on. I always get a simple black house drip coffee whenever I go for a first time, and this one did not disappoint! I found the coffee very flavorful without too much bitterness. And the serving temperature was perfect for drinking it right away (which I did since it was a cold January day!) I will also give them credit when I realized I needed to change my order from in house to "to go" about five minutes into my visit. No problem. They transferred my coffee, topped it off, and directed me to the stand to the right where I could get a lid, napkins, etc. Good coffee! Good service! Good space! Indie Coffee Roasters is a gem of a place. Right in downtown Carmel, just a few blocks from the Monon, it's super convenient if you're taking a walk or in the area. I'm usually a Tinker drinker, but I love ICR's beans. Their cold brew is excellent! On my last trip in, I tried the Gwen, one of their summer special drinks. It's a cold drink: cold brew, chocolate, banana, oat milk. Delicious. I haven't stopped thinking of it since. If you want a bite to eat, the scones are delicious too! I had a free morning and decided to stop in for the first time. I've had ICR coffee at Zionsville's farmers market before but have wanted to check out their brick and mortar location for a while. They just released their holiday drink specials and I couldn't wait to try one! I actually want to try them all because they all sound great so I'll be back again before they switch up the menu. Now onto the drink.....I had the Berry Blitz. It had notes of white chocolate, cranberry, cinnamon and almonds. I got a hint of everything and nothing was too overpowering. I watched them make the drink and it was a work of art. You can tell they put a lot of thought into their drinks and I really appreciate that. It's important to note that I asked for oat milk and the woman working said that they suggest not substituting because the flavor of the drink would be thrown off. I was perfectly fine with them making the drink the way they suggested. Like I said, attention to detail! The inside of the coffee shop is clean with lots of white and wood. They also sell some merch and whole bags of coffee. My husband has a ICR hat because of the logo. We have a dachshund so we really love repping their logo! I can't wait to bring my husband in to try their seasonal drinks. Everyone needs to check this place out if you haven't already! read more

This just might be my new favorite place to work outside of the office! Friendly service? Check? Delicious coffee? Check. Natural light and plenty of seating? Check and check! Indie Coffee Roasters is located near downtown Carmel and the atmosphere of this place just says "settle in and get some shit done." Yesterday I decided to indulge in a cup of their Black and Blue, which had just a hint of blueberry and was absolutely delicious. I concluded my visit with two cups of their drip, which also hit the spot. I love the vibe of this coffee shop and definitely recommend checking it out! read more

Cute little place, that's not actually so little. A coffee shop that I would LOVE to bring a good book or my laptop to for a few hours. So many windows and a nice, clean look make me want to get some work done. It's nicely lit and simple. I ordered a vanilla latte (very basic, I know) and my husband got one of their seasonal drinks which was delicious. Walking distance from the downtown area with tons of cute little shops. First time visit for a latte and some coffee beans. The store was so cute, very clean and roomy if you wanted to stay and sip there. The barista was really helpful recommending which bean I'd enjoy and the latte she made was perfect! They have a simple syrup that blended so easily so the latte was perfect throughout (vs not blended so overly sweet towards the end of the latte). Will definitely go again! read more

We popped into this cute little shop for an afternoon pick me up and I was pleasantly delighted by the casual cool feel inside. The place was all white and very mod feeling with industrial touches and live plants all over the place. I will say, while the latte I got was delicious and had adorable foam art, it did seem a bit overpriced for the size and I wasn't much impressed by their menu options. I did notice there were signature drinks but no description as to what they were. I think I'd go here again... but not sure if I would go to work as most tables seemed to be in the middle of a room and I'm not sure there were many outlets Incase you needed a charge. read more

The made a great cup of coffee just as I requested it. The coffee was smooth and not bitter, just the way I like it. Staff was so genuinely nice and cheerful. Lots of seating inside and out. You have to try the scones which are incredible! Locally owned so not a chain. I highly recommend them and not just because I own a dachshund. read more

If your looking for an excellent cup of coffee or espresso this is the right choice. Indie Coffee Roasters does a great job at focusing on quality over quantity and speed. If your looking for something quick, want a lot of sugar and don't like the taste of good coffee (ie you like Starbucks) then this probably isn't the place for you. Indie Coffee has excellent coffee and excellent service. The only thing lacking is seating space, which is pretty typical for a lot of coffee shops now a days it seems. Let's talk coffee. When you go to the counter and ask for a pour over they don't tell you a rosy profile but a flavor profile. They will tell you "We don't roast to color but to flavor." That's a powerful statement as the norm is light, medium, or dark. That being said all of their roasts are medium to light but they lean towards the acidic vibe. It's still super tasty and the baristas all know their stuff as far as flavor profiles go. Tell them flavors you like and they will get you what you like. As far as espresso drinks go, the word that comes to mind is "Balanced". They are great at making a balanced latte in that it's not all milk/foam or all coffee flavored. It's a silky smooth flavor that keeps you wanting more. The art on top of the flavor is the cherry on top of the drink. It's beautifully done and clearly crafted by a master. Overall 5/5 for flavor and art. Let's talk service and atmosphere. As I said before the baristas and staff are all great. They care about what they craft and you as a customer. They know their stuff and they can really help you get the right cup. They also are great at setting a chill atmosphere in that they don't yell out your name when your coffee is done, they bring it to you even when it's busy. They will come find you and personally hand it to you, which sets a great environment for quality. The only thing that this place lacks is places to sit. They took over a home to create the place which is a great idea but it limits space because of it. If you are by yourself you will find a spot easily at a bar or something like that but if you are with others it's hard to find a spot. If you are going with a group, go early or in an off hour if you are looking for a place to sit, otherwise expect to wait for someone to move. This is pretty common as I said before which is unfortunate but also understandable on the business side of things. That being said this place is great and worth the visit if not multiple visits. read more

COVID-related update: While I love the staff here and the coffee and food are great, I am a little wary every time I visit these days. I know that people don't need to wear masks while eating/drinking, but the thing is that if someone is sitting and working long-term and "drinking coffee" the whole time, then you are sitting in other people's breath for hours at a time. I have been going once in a while anyway, since I just get it to go, but the other day I was in there and there was a guest working and chatting with staff at the bar area, and he was doing so unmasked. The trajectory of his breath would go directly where all the coffee is made, a mere two feet in front of him. It definitely turned me off. Modern, chic, and laid back were the vibes I picked up first walking into Indie Coffee Roasters in Carmel. With the exposed ceilings and clean, bright colors it screams please study or have a casual interview here. I love the contrast of the fresh white walls and green plants everywhere. I had a dirty chai and a delicious cinnamon coffee cake confection, both are definitely worth a return visit. There is free Wi-Fi and dogs are allowed (but only on the patio). It was packed when I went in so it already looks like the secret of Indie Coffee Roasters has been spilled! Had a great visit here and hope it continues to thrive. read more

Such a cute local coffee shop in a small house off main st. They have a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating for studying, working, meeting with friends, etc. there is a small parking lot in the back that can fit about 6 cars. I was lucky enough to snag a spot. Like any local coffee shop the drinks are a little pricey. The menu is pretty simple but I was hoping they would have some seasonal lattes to try. I got a small chai tea latte for $5. It was good but a little on the sweeter side compared to my usual chai tea. I probably should have had a shot of espresso added in but there's always next time. I hope to be back to try a regular latte or drop coffee. read more

When coffee is life...Did I mention this is with OAT MILK, yes oat milk is the new thing! Gluten free, nut free, dairy free... guilt free. Super cute new store in downtown Carmel. They just opened their doors this morning and already had good traffic for 7:00 AM. Pretty basic menu--don't come here thinking you can order a unicorn sprinkled carmel coconut macchiato. This is a place for people who want a quality cup of coffee. Coffee purists would be the target customer, in my opinion. I ordered the pour over and got to chat with the barista while she was making it. She used a timer and a scale to ensure just the right amount of water and coffee were used. It took a bit longer but that's what happens when you want a good cup o' joe. It's quite strong but that's also partially due to the fact that I'm used to drinking my Keurig coffee every morning. Everyone was super friendly and excited about meeting their new customers. I'm looking forward to many more coffee trips in the future. read more

Indie Coffee Roasters is absolutely beautiful and served a delicious latte. Here's my breakdown: DECOR: The entire cafe followed a pleasing black and white color scheme, from the tiling of the coffee counter to the cups to the furniture. Balancing the monochrome aesthetic was the warmth of natural light coming in from all sides. Every wall had windows (perks of being located in a renovated house), so it felt like I was chilling in someone's living room. I set up shop at a big wooden table where I could see trees and grass from the neighbor's yard, feeling very zen. DRINK: I ordered a plain ol' latte. Now, I am no coffee connoisseur, but my latte tasted like it was fancy -- smooth, rich, no funny aftertaste. It also smelled delightful, almost like caramel (and again, it was just a plain latte, not sweetened with anything). I highly recommend it. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: After I got settled and had my drink, I found it a little difficult to concentrate on my work. For a random weekday afternoon, there were a lot of people in this shop. In particular, there was a big group of business-y guys talking loudly in one corner for about an hour. Once they left, though, it was totally fine. I'm not too sure about outlet availability, but WiFi was strong enough for me to stream online lectures without a problem. PARKING: There's free 3-hour street parking in front of the shop and in downtown Carmel. There's also a public parking lot a short distance down the street, located behind the Lions Club building (see my picture). I love Indie Coffee Roasters! It is a great, local neighborhood coffee shop in a location that desperately needed a café. While it might be a little far away from the Monon, it is easily walkable from "Downtown Carmel" and all of the businesses there. The interior was nice and clean with a very modern feel. I loved the coffee-related patent drawings all over the wall, it provided a classy, innovative feel. The open seating and wide windows make it a perfect location to study, or relax with family. I haven't had the best of luck with the coffee roasts. I did not enjoy the first roast that I had via pour-over, but I am sure subsequent selections will be better. I would have liked to have had more than three to choose from and a menu explaining their flavor profiles, versus the cashier reading off of his screen. My wife's latte was amazing, so my mediocre coffee experience does not dull our experience much. I certainly look forward to trying more of their roasts. I look forward to patronizing Indie Coffee roasters for many years. I am certain that they will thrive, especially if the new line of cars parked up and down mainstreet is any indication. read more

I wasn't impressed at all. Staff was super friendly but coffee was underwhelming. Particularly surprised they offered no sugar free sweetener for customers who like sweetener but cannot do sugar. I should have had my own but didn't. The coffee was not particularly distinctive. My 4 year old and I found this lovely place by accident one morning after getting him a haircut down the street. We have been in love ever since. Not only is the coffee excellent and the staff incredibly knowledgeable- they are some of the kindest humans. As former New Yorkers- we are very picky about our lattes and cold brews (mine and my husband's go-to orders) and ICR has never disappointed us.
