Beautiful location for a picnic or a wedding! The ciders, lemoncello and brandy were all delicious. It was fun to walk around and enjoy the beauty while drinking a purchased cider. (Blackberry was our fav) Pro tip: bring a blanket to sit on or even some folding chairs. They have picnic tables but it would have been nice to sit on the grass and get the full beauty of the covered bridge. Totally worth a stop. We went to Savemart on the way (the new one that has a deli) and ordered sandwiches and then took them up. Very family friendly, peaceful, nature. read more

I've been wanting to check out this magical spot for forever and I'm so glad that we finally had the opportunity to do so. Indigeny Reserve is well worth a visit if you are anywhere near the area. It's a pleasant drive with open greenery - and we recently discovered that the key to a dreamy visit - is going on a mellow weekday afternoon (which happened to be a Friday). As soon as we pulled up to the grounds - we could feel our shoulders soften. Cassie - who helped us - was absolutely fantastic. She was extremely accommodating, personable, and informative when it came to providing background about Indigeny Reserve, the surrounding area, and their fantastic cider products. She quickly got us set up with a tasting of three of their different ciders - as well as their cider brandy. Everything is organic, sustainably-produced - and gluten free. We fell in love with their organic harvest blend- that changes twice a year with the 52 varieties of apples that they grow, and has no added sugar or preservatives. It was fantastic - and we ended up buying a bottle to go. We had tried Indigeny cider before our visit (bought at a local grocery store) - but it was a completely different experience - sampling it from glassware and hearing about each of the cider products are individually made. The staff are extremely passionate about all aspects of Indigeny Reserve and their wonderful cider. We also learned on our recent visit that Indigeny Reserve can now host weddings (they already host events on a monthly basis -complete with live music, food truck etc) so if you're looking to host a special gathering or event - it's well worth learning more about the picturesque grounds here. The good: The cider is delicious and I have been a big fan ever since trying their products at a fair. The grounds are beautiful and spacious and they usually have some type of catering/food on site on the weekends along with seasonal events. The bad: the service at the tasting bar. I have gone about 4 different times to fill up my growler and enjoy some cider on the grounds. Each time I go the people working at the bar never offer to help me, they help whatever local is in there or someone that got there after me. I have my Indigeny glass cup, growler and card out ready and they just pass me over. This last time was terrible. I want to leave 5 stars because the owners and product are awesome (the tour is fun), but seeing how terrible the service has been for me I had to give a 2 star to warn other people. HOW HAD I NEVER BEEN HERE BEFORE???!!!! I tried their blackberry cider in the summer at a restaurant in Twain Harte and LOVED it. The gal told me I should check out their reserve so I finally did when I was visiting the area this past weekend. Wasn't sure what I would find since everything is closed for tastings during Covid. The drive there was absolutely beautiful i might add. I was so excited to see it was open for outdoor purchases. Wow, the grounds are gorgeous, even on a chilly fall day when not much us growing. The entrance is this beautiful covered bridge that is very picturesque. There's lots of picnic tables for eating at and to reserve for large groups when the world is back to normal. The gal that helped me was super sweet and gave me a description of each cider and said I was welcome to purchase a pint and walk around the grounds. Didn't have to tell me twice! I tried their organic cider that had soooo many different apple varietals in it. OMG, the cider was so delicious! My husband, who is not a cider drinker ended up drinking half of it so I had to purchase another! Crazy thing is the pint was only $4! What a bargain! They also have growlers and bottles you can purchase to go. It was great being able to bring the dog and hang out here and I can't wait to be able to come back in the summer and picnic here. Hard Cider tasting. Basically, that is about all you need to know. I have had hard cider before, but not like this. It was not hard to decide if we would bring some home. Yup we did. The stuff bottled in black metal bottles with a red apple graphic...this is the *good* stuff. This has the true apple taste. Certified Organic. This is the "Reserve". They even offer apple brandy tasting, but you are escorted into the intimate, oak barrel room for that tasting. How fun is that? But frankly, it is the cider that woo's me. Meanwhile, while I take a moment to clean the drool off my shirt, please enjoy the pictures of the lovely surrounds. You must take a windy drive from old Sonora, east into the hills of the Mother Lode and follow the signs to the rustic Apple Valley Ranches on Apple Hill Rd. You will find yourself following a funky, one-lane country road that takes you through some picture perfect rural parts, past ancient apple orchards, a dried up creek and a picturesque (made to look old) covered bridge. You may feel lost, but trust your GPS. And once you arrive, you will be pleasantly surprised by the large parking area, many picnic tables, deer, geese, strategically placed, old farm equipment, hiking trails, and a handsome, newly constructed barn-like building. Completely built with beautiful cedar and oak, this is where you will find your tasting rooms, a great gift shop, and if you are lucky, a tour to see the stunning copper distillery. I know you will enjoy your experience here. And if you live a distance from here, make sure you bring some home. Grounds were beautiful and gave plenty of room to spread out. Food truck (smokin' bbq) was fantastic. A little expensive but the portions were good. Cider was decent to good. Not the best I've had, but better than others. Tried the barnyard organic cider and it was crisp. Also appreciated the server filling the cup to the brim. The solo cup for $6 was a good value. Had the blackberry cider in a can and it did not taste amazing - it was in a warm can though so take that for what you will. Some cons... Staff seemed very overwhelmed. Running between the gift shop and tasting room. They did mention that it was the "busiest weekend of the year" but it didn't seem that crowded when we were there. Yellow jackets were really, really bad. Just opening the containers of food caused them to swarm (3 or 4 buzzing around you). I finally had to set a plate of meat off to the side of our table which seemed to distract them. This really dampened the experience. There were traps out there, but it wasn't doing the trick. Cornhole was available, but only two beanbags? I think some more lawn games would add to the appeal of the place. In short: Food: great Cider: good Yellow jackets: horrible read more

Beautiful winery in the hills of Sonora. The staff was extremely nice and accommodating. They were able to take the time to explain the details of the pairing of each cider we had. They even explained how to get to the trail, which takes you to the creek and provided us with a map. All the ciders were delicious! My favorite was their seasonal cranberry cider. Supposedly, they are very popular and sold out in 4 days last year. The winery is family friendly as people can take their dogs and there are a lot of activities on-site. There's Yahtzee, giant jenga, and corn hole available outside. I definitely recommend this winery! read more

The location and amenities are great. The parking is plenty and with people coming and going it's easy to find a spot. There is a lot of tables in the beer garden area and a large lawn with some picnic tables scattered around. The place seems to be very popular to host events so there were a a few large parties in the main sitting area. If you want less noise and more privacy you can move towards the lawn or even sit under the apple trees nearby. The cider selection and the taste are lacking hence my 3 stars. A very small selection for the number of apple varieties they claim they grow. Just your typical berry/fruity crowd pleasers and even these are quite mediocre in taste and character. Frankly the crisp one tasted like the bottled Martinelli apple juice. Very disappointing. The "Normandy" style apple brandy is not Normandy at all. With such large orchard and so many types of apple trees I would expect at least a small batch of something more sophisticated. I would not recommend visiting for the true cider tasting experience. Rather just a nice picnic with some sweet refreshments. read more

Love, love, LOVE! My entire family is obsessed with Indigeny cider. It's a staple at family gatherings, and we love attending the fun events that are held on their gorgeous property. My frequent trips to Sonora are never complete without stopping by and relaxing in the sunshine with a cold glass of Blackberry cider. Can't make it to Sonora? Came to the reserve on a day trip with some residents of our assisted living community. The staff there was very accommodating and very knowledgeable about the different ciders they were serving. Each one had a unique taste and flavor. The lady pouring for us answered all of our questions gave us a tour of the fermentation room, the filler and canning process, (they don't use bottles, 12 ounce cans), however you can buy different flavored ciders in bottles or growlers. They also took us into the cold storage room where they are aging the apple brandy. Also tasted the brandy and bought a bottle. I also highly recommend the peach cider and the lemon lime cider. Great way to spend an afternoon out in the countryside. They also have a great picnic area. read more

I had somehow never even heard of this place but our friends had been a few times and took us to check it out and it's a really beautiful place! The abundance of trees, spacious areas of grass for kids to run around and delicious ciders for the adults enjoy make this a really nice peaceful outing for anyone! Unfortunately we weren't able to take the tour that I'm told they offer here which would I'm sure would be incredible to see but the ciders are amazing and to sit and enjoy them with good company in a beautiful setting is good enough for me. I don't drink cider often but ya know, "when I'm Rome"! My wife and I tried all three options that were on tap which was Extra Crisp, Blackberry and a Blood Orange and loved them so much that we took a 6 pack of one and 64 oz. growlers of the other two home with us! Wow. What an amazing experience I had here. The employee, Kenny, was so welcoming, friendly and did a fabulous job multi-tasking between multiple customers. He never left me waiting and made sure I got the full experience of the tasting room. He answered all of my questions and went above and beyond with additional information. This place is worth checking out. If you're in the area, pop on over for an hour or so, take a tour, sample some booze, etc. If you're traveling to get here, and Indigeny is your actual destination (and not just a stop off), you can make this GREAT if you do just a little planning. Specifically: 1) Go during good weather, when plants are green -- the scenery is lovely there, and you can enjoy beverages at a picnic table. 2) Pack a picnic -- this place is perfect for a leisurely lunch. There is plenty of space for kids to run around, too. If you don't feel like making a bunch of food, you can stop at one of the cute delis or markets in Angel's Camp or Sonora (if you're coming from the west) or pick up goodies from Alicia's Sugar Shack in Mi Wuk (if you're coming from the east). 3) Follow the directions from the website or other yelp reviews. As noted, your gps will just mess you up. You can expect to sample several varieties are high quality hard cider, as well as apple brandy, and vodka. I'm not usually a hard cider fan, but Indigeny was delicious. Their cider tastes fresh and crisp -- it's not too sweet, while still having a lot of fruit in the taste. The staff was friendly, and was great at answering product and process questions, and the short tour was really interesting, if you (like I) don't know much about alcohol distillation or fruit storage. A cider house in the middle of nowhere & a highly recommended destination. Location: inviting picnic tables, plenty of parking, some hoops and other "toys" to keep the off-springs busy - horrible cellular coverage will take them away from the iToys. If you forgot to pack your picnic, a great smoking food truck will take care of that, with enough variety to satisfy the picky meat eater. and the rocket, potato, and M&C salads were good too. And now to the main reason one should get here: the ciders! Pure or injected with pineapple, blackberries, or any other fruits, it's worth tasting. We tried the organic, the pineapple, the Granny Smith... everything that was offered ;-) I loved the organic which I found crispier and richer in taste. 2nd was the blackberries cider, though, surprisingly, as we also got these two to accompany our picnic, while the joy of the organic lasted through the bottle, the blackberries lost "momentum." We didn't finish that bottle. A strong, happy, and very appreciative thumbs-up to the tasting room team. their excitement, passion, knowledge, and the ease in which they share it with everyone makes you smile, even before the first sip of cider. Must Try: Those cider squares. While not for the vegetarian [gelatin] the flavors - think salty caramel, jalapeños, just apples, pina colada... - are amazing. Think the amazing upgrade your salad will benefit from, with a bunch of those squares thrown in. love it. While you can buy the ciders around the valley, it cannot substitute the visit, IMHO. Every time I have been to Indigeny, I appreciate the grounds and all that has been done, especially during Covid, to make it comfortable and welcoming to their guests. That was until our visit over the weekend. The grounds and the cider are still great, but the service at the bar for growlers and pints was rough. There were three servers, two who were kind, and quick to help. The third was rude, short and condescending. She spoke to everyone in front of us, then to us as well, as though we were there to argue. Weird experience for a place so well enjoyed. read more
