This place is worth checking out. If you're in the area, pop on over for an hour or so, take a tour, sample some booze, etc. If you're traveling to get here, and Indigeny is your actual destination (and not just a stop off), you can make this GREAT if you do just a little planning. Specifically: 1) Go during good weather, when plants are green -- the scenery is lovely there, and you can enjoy beverages at a picnic table. 2) Pack a picnic -- this place is perfect for a leisurely lunch. There is plenty of space for kids to run around, too. If you don't feel like making a bunch of food, you can stop at one of the cute delis or markets in Angel's Camp or Sonora (if you're coming from the west) or pick up goodies from Alicia's Sugar Shack in Mi Wuk (if you're coming from the east). 3) Follow the directions from the website or other yelp reviews. As noted, your gps will just mess you up. You can expect to sample several varieties are high quality hard cider, as well as apple brandy, and vodka. I'm not usually a hard cider fan, but Indigeny was delicious. Their cider tastes fresh and crisp -- it's not too sweet, while still having a lot of fruit in the taste. The staff was friendly, and was great at answering product and process questions, and the short tour was really interesting, if you (like I) don't know much about alcohol distillation or fruit storage. This place is so relaxing. If you just want to get away from all this COVID situation, this is the place to go. It's open, they have picnic tables where you can set up. Take your own food. Or if you go on a Saturday they usually have a BBQ truck there. It's delicious. It's called Smoking Hot Meats and Treats. Have some of their Cider, which is also delicious. This apple cider and blackberry cider can be found in Save Mart. Sometimes they have new flavors that you can only purchase there. For example, this weekend they had a blood orange cider. It's was Delicious! You can also go for a walk in their orchard or in the forest surrounding. It's very relaxing. The only thing is you cannot take outside alcohol. Which you do not need. This is one of my favorite spots in Sonora. A true diamond in the rough. The drive to it is isolated yet scenic. It's a short jaunt out of the main part of town (about 10 mins) but still close enough to downtown in order to take a stroll or grab some food afterwards. The property is rustic & charming (great for a picnic at the outdoor tables if you pack one in) and as for the most important part...the cider...it's delicious! They share a generous sample of whichever seasonal ciders they have on tap as well as make it inexpensive to take some home in a growler or wine sized bottle. I'm disappointed by how let down I was by this cider house. I was staying overnight in Sonora and came across a pamphlet for Indigeny in the book my AirBnB host left out. I can't have wheat so the fact that there was a taproom for CIDER just 4 miles away felt like kismet. Unfortunately, the best part of my trip was the drive there--hence the two stars instead of one. I showed up around 12:30pm on Friday, so I'm not surprised that I was the only customer there. Doesn't matter if I was the only customer or if there were 100 people. I should have been treated better. The girl that greeted me seemed less than enthused that she had to assist me. And based on reading other reviews, I'm guessing it's the same girl that others have described as haughty and rude. I'd also add condescending to that list. Let's set this straight first, before I talk about their cider: I've had A LOT of cider in my time. I know there are sweet ciders out there. After all, it's made from apples. But many ciders (dare I say the majority?) in California are dry. So. I ask for a taster, and she starts me out with the sweetest one. I said, "wow this is SWEET" and she said, "yeah, it has 30 grams of sugar." And I said, "yeah, that's a lot. It's almost like juice." And, in a very rude tone, she said, "well, it IS cider." I KNOW IT'S CIDER. I'm commenting on how GD sweet it is. Like, sweeter than Angry Orchard and that stuff is basically a sugar bomb. I tried the other two ciders, both slightly less sweet, and got a solo cup of the "driest" one, which was still super sweet. Once I purchased the cup, I asked if I could take it outside and the girl said yes, then just walked away. No conversation to be had. That's okay, I'm a pretty solitary person, but she CLEARLY did not have any interest in assisting anyone. I ended up going outside and entertaining myself for a little while with hula hoops and Instagram. I went back in eventually to use the restroom and peruse the shop, where the girl who helped me was "working" behind the counter while talking to another employee I couldn't see. They both ignored me completely (while talking about turmeric [and pronouncing it incorrectly]) so I decided to just leave. I left my half-full cup of too-sweet cider (that I'm thankful I only paid $3.22 for) on the bar and walked out. I might go back one day, if only just to take the beautiful drive and go through the covered bridge again. But definitely not to patronize the cider house. read more

What a gem of a place and I wish it was much closer to the bay but I don't want other people to know about it. But then I do because I want people come and experience what I have. Ciders are good and it is a cool hidden spot. Removed two stars because brunette girl working at the tasting room was AWKWARD! I thought we were going to get told some kind of the story about the apples or the history of this place, but nope! nothing. You just drink in complete awkwardness. While on a little vacation with family, we kept seeing Indigeny organic cider on tap at bars and restaurants. We LOVE hard cider, and we rarely see it anywhere in southern California. One taste, and I was hooked. A little internet research showed that one cannot really buy this anywhere in Southern California, so we decided that we needed to go buy at least a case. Even just the drive up to the reserve is absolutely beautiful. Driving up the lane to the tasting room, I was just in awe. If I had known about this place 15 years ago, I for sure would have wanted to try to get married here. I don't know if they do weddings, but WOW! It's like a fairy tale forest, just so incredibly beautiful. We were just making a quick stop before heading north to see family, so we didn't go on a tour or anything, but we were delighted that they were happy to serve us tastes of everything. The organic is probably the best as far as taste, but they only serve it by the jug, not by the case. If you buy the crisp cider by the case, then it comes in metal bottles that really do keep it very cold while you are drinking it, which is fantastic. It truly does taste best cold. It didn't bother me that it isn't organic because obviously, it's just not "certified" organic, but they grow it all right there, and it is obviously real, natural farming. We ended up buying two cases at a price that is just a little more than we'd pay per bottle for something like Angry Orchard, but the taste is fantastic, and we are contributing to a small local business. I really, really wish that they sold the cases in BevMo or something because it is SO, SO good. I'd be a regular customer. read more

What a cool spot to spend some time just outside Sonora. This cidery and distillery has quite a story and I've yet to run into a staff person there who isn't willing to tell it! The tours, often given by the owner, are fun and informative and his passion is easy to see! The hard cider is the best I've had and they often create special ciders for special days like Christmas or harvest time. My husband and I arrive at I Indigeny 15 minutes before they closed. We aren't normally people that show up 15 minutes before a place closes because I generally find it rude, but we really really want to try some of their ciders and we weren't sure if we would have the opportunity again. Inside the wonderful woman at the counter didn't make us feel guilty at all, despite the fact that she would have every right to be annoyed. Both my husband and I had a tasting of all their ciders including the seasonal cranberry cider. My husband also enjoyed a tasting of their Apple brandy and their fig vodka, while I also tried their orange and lemoncello. We were blown away by all of their ciders. Their original cider tastes like a bite of a Granny Smith Apple, delicious. I don't know if I could even choose which cider I liked the best. While I didn't try the brandy, my husband did enjoy it and stated that it was some of the smoothest alcohol he's tasted ( and he's had quite a few). I enjoyed the orange and lemoncello about as much as I could since I don't sip on hard alcohol. We enjoyed the cider at Indigeny so much that we went out of our way to come back and have more cider the next day! The location of this cidery is fantastic in and of its self. Its on a beautiful property with plenty of outdoor seating to have a picnic if the weather is warm enough. Wow! We've been living in the greater Tuolumne/Calaveras area for nearly a year now and have explored quite a bit that the area has to offer. From wineries to the outdoor life and everything in between. I heard of Indigeny Reserve a few months back from an unassuming ad in one of the local publications. They were slated to open in the fall and we finally got around to visiting this weekend. They are a 160 apple ranch committed to 100% organic farming/production methods producing some of the absolute best hard cider and apple brandy I've ever tasted. The facility is absolutely beautiful and they even have a gift shop! When we were there, we got to taste 4 different versions of their cider. Variations included acidity, carbonation and length of fermentation. Really cool stuff and all delicious.. But that was only the beginning. One of the owners was on hand to take us on a tour of their full production facility including their sorting/cleaning station, juice press and their massive collection of storage tanks. The biggest treat, however was a tour of the distillation process. We got to see the creation of apple brandy right up close. They were even distilling while we were in the room! Converting the remnants of the hard cider process into hard alcohol. They are really committed to using every part of every apple that they harvest. Really, really cool. We left with a gallon of their hard cider and plan to go back soon for more. I suspect that it won't last long in the fridge. I had no idea this place was here but the locals told me that it was not to be missed! It was a bit of a drive off the beaten path but once we crossed the covered bridge and reached the ranch - I'd wished I'd allocated more time to hang out and enjoy the grounds. In addition to free cider tasting, you can also taste their vodkas, limoncello and apple brandy - which resembles more of a whiskey (a very good one too). There are picnic tables, hiking trails and lots of corn hole to keep you busy here. They offer growlers and 6 packs of their apple ciders to take home at great prices - if you want to grab a growler be sure to bring something to keep it on ice if you have a few hours to travel home. read more

Entirely worth the drive up from the East Bay. But DO NOT TRUST SIRI. As stated in a previous review, use the directions on the website. But let's get to the good stuff... HOLY DELICIOUS CIDER BATMAN! We were immediately greeted by what I later found out was the owner. He instantly got my wife and I a couple of samples of cider, which were AMAZING. We chatted a bit. We then got to try both orange and lemon vodkas. After that we were set up with a small tour. Tour was nice. On the tour you get to sample their brandy. I'm not much a brandy person, but this was actually smooth and tolerable. It also comes in a beautiful glass if you opt to take some home. Tour guide mentioned you can walk the orchard and go see a mine. So we did that also. Small walk. Kinda nice. We then returned and walked around the gift shop a bit and bought a bunch of cider to take home. There is a huge area with picnic tables. Yup, this is the place! First of all major brownie points for the sustainable/ organic practices!!! It is basically like wine tasting, but with hard apple cider and brandy. The cider was delicious and refreshing, the brandy was a bit much for me, but then again I'm not a big brandy fan, if you are I'm sure this is good stuff. And they take you on a little tour of the production area which is really interesting. The location and facilities are beautiful!!! This is an amazing location for weddings and events! First time drinking brandy, very smooth and the orange infused vodka was a nice change of pace. Indigeny has the best apple cider I have ever tasted. I have gone to numerous cider mills on the East Coast and beyond. Theirs beat everything so far with the first sip. The grounds are stunning and extremely "hipster" (in a good way!!). While driving down the road, following their apple-shaped signs to the parking lot, I expected to see bunch of bay area hipsters hanging out at the picnic tables. Instead, I walked into the gorgeous building to see an older couple serving cider. Meet the Watsons, the owners of this amazing establishment. Mr. Watson, an extremely educated man, gave us tasting (free, at least for now, hurry!) of the ciders, pouring cinnamon liquor into one of them "to make it more holiday-like." He then gave us a tour of the cider mill, and I drooled over his beautiful German still. The tour ended with their apple brandy ($70 for 750ml). Their gift shop carries cool art from local artists, including beautiful reclaimed wood tables made by their son and cute clothing made by their daughter (seriously, how talented are these people??) The cider is totally decently priced. $7 bottles for the organic, $10 for 6-pack. EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT. At the end of the tour, I told Mr. Watson that he is the coolest hipster I've ever met. I love hard cider and I love local breweries, so when I saw that there was a cider distillery in the Tuolumne area, I knew I had to stop. The grounds are just gorgeous and if you do it right, you could probably spend must of a day there. They offer a hard cider, an organic hard cider with less sugar, a blackberry cider, and an apple brandy to taste. Tours are also available, which I highly recommend. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about both the product and the property and made the experience that much better.
