This place is amazing all around! My family (through a DC friend) has been going to this restaurant (and its manager's predecessor) for many years now! The food is consistently fresh and delicious and spiced very well with lots of spice levels available. The restaurant is always very clean too! The service and attention to detail among each server is always impeccable--they consistently come around with water and are always happy to help you with whatever you may need. The manager Sanjeet is such a kind and friendly man. Each time we come (may it be for pickup or dine-in) he greets us by name with open arms. He is always happy to help and happy to talk whenever! Very nice indian restsurant on barracks row! Stopped in for lunch with a friend and had a lovely weekday lunch break. A few things i enjoyed: - the lunch specials were a great value with a good variety of options - the staff was really great! Our server was awesome and pretty attentivw - the samosas were delicious! So good! Right level of spice and flavor - ample seating and reallt nice decor. Conveniently located - my friend wnjoyed her butter chicken dish and was excited to take some home for leftovers. This place is a solid high 3*, but I bumped it up to 4* because they have good customer service, offer a lunch special, happy hour, and discounts on dinner during the week and takeout. Considering there is a 5* Indian restaurant across the street, it is difficult to not compare this restaurant to it. Jab We Met has your customary authentic Indian cuisine, however, in typical American fashion some of the flavor and heat is dialed down or inconsistent. The first time I visited, I was left wanting more in the flavor department. I asked for spicy, and although what I received would be considered spicy to some, it wasn't nearly as spicy as I expected for Indian cuisine. The depth of flavor can be inconsistent, although for American standards it is perfect. What I've experienced with some Indian restaurants is the flavor level depends on how close the batch is to almost empty. I've experienced some restaurants stretch their gravies by adding stock/water. Jab We Met seems to take pride in serving consistent gravy texture and consistency. The customer service is always good. The inside has an upscale decor, fitting for Capitol Hill and not your traditional Indian restaurant. There is a full size bar and window seating.The lunch special is perhaps the best value here. I found Jab We Met on DoorDash and decided to give it a try. Any time I see palak chat on the menu, I have to try it and see how it compares to Rasika's. Jab's version ($10) is the best dupe I've ever had! I ordered it as a carryout item, and I was wary that it wouldn't hold up to the transport and would be soggy. Jab packaged it thoughtfully - all of the sauces were served on the side - and the flash-fried spinach stayed perfectly crispy and wasn't greasy at all! Serving the sauces on the side is actually even better because then I was able to customize the sauce levels and flavors. I would definitely come back and order this again. I also ordered the Chicken Makhani ($20) because I'm basic like that. It comes with rice. You can customize the spice levels, and yes, I ordered mild (...I SAID I was basic). The butter chicken was good but doesn't crack the list of my favorites. The chicken was a little dry and they use a grilled/barbecued chicken which gave it a smoky flavor. The mild was quite mild, I actually think I could handle a slightly spicier level here. I'm happy I tried this place - will come back to try more. read more

Ordering takeout over the phone on a busy Friday night, I walked into their kind staff. They were so helpful and passionate about their restaurant. We ordered chaat, chicken tikka masala, chutney, naan, and gulab jamun. The winner was the gulab jamun. Heated for 15 seconds in the microwave did the trick. Everything else was fine, but not as flavorful as other restaurants nearby. Overall, it's a decent place. One thing to note is that the mild dishes are still a little spicy. read more

I'm a huge fan of Indian food and was excited to try this place. On a late Sunday afternoon it wasn't too busy. We got seated right away. I found parking nearby! Every Indian restaurant has their own level of spicy so I inquired. This restaurant goes from 1 to 10. Since I'd never been here, I decided to go at level 7 but I could have went up higher because my food wasn't spicy enough for me. I got the chicken tikka masala which came with rice and I ordered a side of garlic naan. While the food was good I thought like the portions were somewhat small. The service was great though! We just dined here yesterday as a family of three. We saw great reviews on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We had made reservations and got seated promptly. However, we could tell that the service was a bit slow here. The servers were super nice, but just a couple of them were taking orders. We ordered the following: - Onion Bhajiya: this was ok. A bit on the bland side. I've some delicious onion bhajiya at other restaurant, so this was just ok for me. - Daal Tadka: Each of the entrees comes with a big bowl of rice. The daal was ok. I've had some amazing Tadka Daal at other restaurants. My husband ordered Butter Chicken and enjoyed it. I still recommend everyone to try this place. For me, the food was average. Finally was able to try this restaurant, on a Saturday for an early dinner. We were seated, no reservation. Food was pretty good, we got lamb saag and chicken makhani that came with basmati rice. We also got a bread basket. My favorite was the garlic naan. The lamb saag was good and the makhani was new to us, but was also good. The makhani had a sweetness to it that was probably from the tomatoes. The portions and price were pretty standard. The service was good, and the servers were very attentive. This Indian cuisine spot had been on my try list for awhile and I finally got to check them out recently. The restaurant is a lot larger than it appeared from the outside with a long bar surrounded by dark-colored small tables and booth seating with simple but elegant decor throughout the space. The weather wasn't great so there weren't too many customers at the time but nonetheless service was timely and our server was very attentive and helpful. I came in just as dinner service was starting and their menu features appetizers like paneer, veggie samosas, and pakora, and traditional entrees like chicken tikka masala, Lamb curry, various protein kabobs, various protein biryani's, and a variety of naan's with prices ranging from $12-$20. They also allow you to choose the spice level for your dish which is convenient for folks like me who enjoy the cuisine but may want a little less heat to better enjoy the flavors of the dish. I decided to try out the shrimp biryani dish which was excellent: well seasoned, large shrimp portions, vibrant ingredients, and even on a milder spice level still had the right amount of kick to it. This place has a nice ambiance and cool bar with really creative drinks. My friend got a spicy mango jalapeño cocktail that was quite interesting. For non alcoholic drinks, the mango lassi is soooo good, it is a sweet and refreshing balance. A perfect pairing to curry. The curries here are sooooo delicious. I genuinely believe I have now tried 90% of the Indian food in DC - relatively new spot, with indoor and outdoor seating. the bar is pretty, the tropical house music was oddly a vibe... I liked our big booth but it is always a bit awkwardly empty here - super sweet waitress, mid food. the appetizer, honey garlic shrimp, was very blah. four pieces of shrimp in a garlic sauce on some roasted onions. there was no honey sweetness and it just tasted like a small portion of a light stir fry - the chicken tandoori was super moist and flavorful. the best dish we got. very lemony which was nice to accompany the spice. it came with a chutney that was slightly cooking and some sort of curry sauce. The origin of this place's name eludes me, but it is an interesting place. It's got a snazzy atmosphere and I was surprised it wasn't more crowded. There are other Indian restaurants in the area. I was happy with this one. Getting a dal that was clearly labeled as vegan, I asked for the maximum spice level and got it, with an astringent herbal tang to match. Ordering a mushroom naan provided an interesting flavor contrast and a good way to mop things up. A ginger tea was strong and ordering a pot was worthwhile. Initially was going to the restaurant across the street but Indian sounded so good instead. I looked up the reviews and everyone's praises had me crossing the street. I was not disappointed and I concur with all the reviews. The food here is fantastic! The service was impeccable and the kindness from every person there just made me so happy and comfortable. I will definitely be coming back and i highly recommend eating here. Excellent experience! I got the Saag which had so many different flavors with the garlic Naan that complimented it perfectly! Jab We Met is a great spot for both dine in and take out. I used to frequent their sister restaurant (NaanWise in Woodley Park) both when I lived nearby and after I moved to SE, so I was excited to see the owners opened a spot on Barracks Row. My go to order is the palak chaat, the vegetable samosas, and either the coconut chicken curry, the chicken Chettinad, or the chicken makhani (butter chicken). Staff is friendly, and there is plenty of seating. Not too far of a walk from the Eastern Market metro station. A very welcome addition to the neighborhood! read more
