I did not have a good experience with them, although they were very kind to me, they said that they would tell me when to breathe and when they were going to poke me so I was waiting for them to tell me. I was scared to come in bc last year I had a terrible experience at Belmont Tattoo with 4 piercings that I had gotten. The first day I visited Industrial in Berkeley, I was greeted right away by Nash. He was so attentive and knowledgeable. I had so many questions and he answered them all. As a customer, it is my responsibility to ask all the questions that I need to know about before I do anything. It is really not their job to volunteer information. I mean, all the info the public needed is already in their website. It was not my first time being pierced. In fact, the reason why I went to Industrial was because of a different piercing shop which I was not happy with. I had this gut-feeling and didn't want the previous piercer to do my Philtrum. So, I made my research, and decided that Industrial would do a better job. I was right. My Philtrum and Septum were both done by Josh, and they aligned perfectly. Josh also noticed both of my Daith were too shallow, so I agreed to have them redone. I just have to be patient with all the healing process. I'm also thankful for Marina and Andrea for resizing my nipple bars and tongue bar respectively. Andrea also helped with my ear stretching. I also love the fact that they will turn me away and won't pierce another spot on my ear because I'm healing something else. Other shops will be doing something like pay only $100 and pierce 5 spots all at the same time, which is actually not good for one's body. Anyway, I salute Industrial for caring. It takes time to acquire a nicely healed piercing. Be patient. I'm definitely very impressed with all the jewelry they carry. Wow! I'm afraid to buy cheap jewelry because I don't like them tarnishing. And yes, cheap jewelry do tarnish on me. I end up having blackened skin underneath said jewelry. I'd end up throwing them away. I went here with my cousin and my brother to get our conches and helix pierced on March 5th. We all made an appointment beforehand and me and my brother were pretty nervous about our piercings. I had previously gone to Zebra in Walnut Creek for my first cartilage piercing (helix) because they seemed popular and well-reviewed. But I didn't know that at the time I had gone, their piercers were not APP certified. So 4-5 days (which happens to be the typical timeframe of infection incubation period) after my helix piercing, I ended up with an infection, had to get oral antibiotics which it turns out I was allergic to and developed a severe whole-body drug rash (coalescing hives and swelling) that had to be treated with oral steroids! That was a sucky 2-3 weeks. After that experience, I really questioned Zebras sanitation and sterility practices, especially since my cousin who got her rook pierced there got infected as well. Side note, the pain for my helix piercing was about 7/10. Before I scheduled with Industrial, I made sure they had APP certified piercers since I wanted to reduce the risk of another crazy experience. My family and I were pierced by Marina who is APP certified. She was totally awesome. I got a conch and was super nervous about the pain and the possibility of getting another infection. But she was super friendly and reassuring during the entire process. I also noticed that she spent more time thoroughly cleaning my piercing site before the actual piercing. I was expecting my conch to be much more painful than my helix but alas, it was not! She was so awesome and gentle, after it was pierced, I thought, damn that was it?? Is the pain just lagging right now?? But nope. Compared to my helix, the pain was much more tolerable at a 4/10. No signs of infection 10 days post piercing which means that the possibility of an infection originating from Industrial Tattoo is super low. My family and I were sooo impressed with her, we all thought our piercings went a lot better than we were expecting. My cousin is no stranger to piercings either. I thought my conch was the last piercing I was going to get but now I'm excited for my conch to heal up so I can get my other conch done, two more lobes and possibly another cartilage piercing at Industrial! I did not get pierced here but I got my piercing checked and removed here. They are seriously the nicest and most experienced piercers imo in the berkeley area so if you want a piercing, come here!!! Also they're registered with association of professional piercers and zebra doesn't seem to be lol so :))) I had my belly pierced a year (not here) and it rejected twice and during COVID, it started scabbing and I was really scared what was happening to it and no piercing stores were allowed to open so I asked them if I could email them pictures of my piercing. They were super responsive to all my emails and told me my piercing was rejecting and that I should get it removed and answered all my piercing questions. Obsessed with their jewelry! I've always had such a hard time finding earrings and piercings that are not just the typical titanium hoop earring or stud. They have so many beautiful earrings and piercings at Industrial Tattoo that it was so hard to choose! They have many styles and shapes to choose from. The tiny titanium earrings start at $35, and the gold ones at $65. I was looking for an earring for my upper lobe and I got a beautiful rose gold opal stud. Their jewelry is not cheap, but you definitely pay for what you get. I had gotten a reaction from wearing a silver earring with a short bar, and now my ear is doing much better. The biggest standout, though, was the outstanding customer service. EVERYONE is incredibly genuine and nice here! I interacted with three different staff members, and they were all caring and helpful. They took the time to show me the different earrings and then put the earring on at no extra charge. Came here for my first lobe piercings as a walk-in. Pros: Very safe and sanitary. They sterilize the jewelry in-house right before you get pierced. The interior is beautiful and there is a large selection of jewelry. Piercing itself was quick and almost painless. Nash was the apprentice who did the placement-- he was SO nice and made me feel totally comfortable (for which I was extremely grateful after interacting with the folks at the front). Five stars for Nash. Cons: The front of house staff were pretty unfriendly; I did not feel welcome, especially as a first-timer. Wait time was super long (1.5 hours), and no one warned me-- just "they'll call your name shortly." I wish I could have gotten a text that my piercer was ready for me so I didn't have to sit there. Jewelry is unbelievably expensive-- their website warns that it's not expensive for what you get, which may be true, but it was still much more than I expected. I recommend telling them your budget before you even look for jewelry so you don't waste your time, or you're not made to feel like you're wasting theirs. Came here for my first piercing in 2013 and again in 2020. My last visit I had two piercings done and bought the jewelry which came to $170. The jewelry is not cheap. I had to wait for two hours, their was no where to sit. They didn't use a push through jewelry so when I tried to take it out I was super confused and it took forever to get out. Ask to see the jewelry, ask about how it's put in and out. The jewelry they put in ended up giving me an infection, made a bump so I had to take it out. Overall I think you're paying for an Alternative telegraph vibe. Super cliche and over priced. No parking. Average jewelry. Weird piercers w/ no social skills. Also they only pierce a select few people's belly button because not everyone has the skin for it apparently... even tho I've had mine done this chick wouldn't pierce me. read more

Five stars for the tattoo artist's abilities and talent. The place was clean and everyone seemed nice from the start. One star for service. I emailed my tattoo artist before the appointment a few pictures of what I wanted. Then when I went in for the tattoo it was obvious he did not pay attention, so I pulled up the images again. Clearly stating this is what inspired me and that I would want something like it. He then went to work without asking clarifying questions so I assumed there was an understanding. The tattoo came out great but it was not what I had in mind because the design was slightly different and the linework was not as prominent. When I expressed my disappointment he implied I was a liar, stating "perhaps I should film all of the conversations I have with clients now." Except there was no conversation or discussion about expectations other than what colors to use. In hindsight, that should have been a red flag. I asked management if it was standard practice to imply clients are liars and received a dismissive response. The one thing they did say was that the level of detail I wanted would have effected the timelessness of the tattoo. If the tattoo artist was concerned about that, then it should have been mentioned earlier. I could have either accepted it as he envisioned it or at least had the opportunity to rethink the size/design and change my vision to compliment his style. So my point in this review is a word of caution. I'm sure you'll get quality work but if you want to be respected I would not recommend Industrial Tattoo. read more

Got my first ear piercing here and it was a very clean and sterile environment. I was told the wait time would be about half an hour, but it ended up being 1.25 hours. Just be aware (I found this a little unfair as I was not explicitly told this) that the cost of each earring does NOT include the posts which are $27 each. I wasn't expecting to come out of this paying so much money. The staff also informs you the price of each earring vs the cost of the entire pair. I had a very unfortunate experience with this place. Back in May 2023 I went for two piercings and two jewelry changes. With the piercings, new jewelry and cost to change I spent to 390 dollars. Two weeks after getting this done one of my piercings that I just had the jewelry changed started to be come irritated. This is a fully healed piercing that I have had over 10 years. The correct backing wasn't put on because it wasn't measured. I returned and was told the correct backing wasn't used and it was replaced at no cost. At that time I asked if the new piercings needed those backings changed. I was told, they may need to be changed but see how they heal and if you need them changed come back. Welp, today December 1,2023 I returned because it's been 7 months and my piercings are not healing. When I walk in and communicate the issue, the lady looked at my piercings and said yes, they need to be changed. She walks away and comes back and tells me I have to pay for it. Why would I pay because the incorrect backings were put on? The incorrect backings are causing my piercings not to heal. I paid for correct backings to be put on and I should get that. I left and will pay to have a more experienced place do it that knows what they are doing. Disappointed that they didn't correct their mistake. read more

I asked for a smaller hoop that would hug my nostrils and was totally dismissed. I was simply told that gravity would make my hoop hug my nose more. I was really unhappy with the turn out. I had to go to a different place for them to change my hoop. I was later told that my hoop size was not actually what was given to me. I was told it was an 11/32 but it was actually 5/16. It was smaller than what Jamie had placed in. So not only did I not get the size I wanted, I was overcharged for the hoop they placed in. read more

I was conflicted on whether to write about my honest opinon and overall tattoo experience with Mike Washington but it's been bugging me ever since and wanted to get it out there in hopes he will improve his customer service. Although at the end of the day, I do love my tattoo, I would say the overall experience wasn't the best. I understand all tattoo artists have a different process but initially after booking the first consultation, I would have expected to receive some artwork back and have a conversation about what I liked and didn't like before my actual tattoo appointment. Unfortunately, I had followed up with him a couple times and didn't hear anything back. The day of my actual tattoo appointment, I wasn't seen until an hour after the scheduled time and there wasn't any communication as to why he was late which was very annoying. We could have spent that hour talking about/drafting the artwork for my tattoo but it was just spent me waiting in the lobby. As for the actual process and tattoo- it was fine, although I did feel at times he was a little short with me. At the end, I was happy with the result and even tipped him $50 on top of my $100 tattoo despite all the irritating things mentioned above. Two months after my tattoo (I wanted to wait until it was completely healed + I strictly followed all the aftercare rules) I noticed some of the line thicknesses were uneven and could use touching up. I reached out to Mike to schedule a follow up appointment which he obliged to. About a month later- on the day of the appointment, he told me that the touch up was going to cost me the same amount as the original tattoo- $100! Keep in mind, my tattoo is about the size of a penny and nothing complicated, a simple cursive letter. I understand that artists need to be paid for their time but I really would have appreciated to be told this cost upfront when I booked the follow up appointment, instead of springing it on me last minute when I was on the table. I wasn't about to be difficult or try and negotiate right before someone was about to ink me with something that's going to be on me the rest of my life. I begrudgingly agreed because it was important to me to have touch up work be done by the original artist. No surprise, I didn't leave a $50 tip this time. Since my apt, I've asked a few other tattoo artists if they charge for touch ups and they all have said no, their work is guaranteed- especially within a few months and they touch up for their valued clients free of charge. If they do charge anything, its only for materials which is about $40-50. In the end, I feel like I overpaid- $250 for a nice, tiny tattoo and mediocre customer service. As I said, I do love my actual tattoo but unfortunately, won't be coming back due to the customer service and lack of communication/price transparency. read more

I got a wrist tattoo here with Chris a few years back. My friend and I walked in on a whim and it was kind that he could squeeze us in. He quoted me $80, which seemed very steep considering I got larger tattoos on my foot for $40, but believed it was likely because I was on telegraph and at a more reputable shop. I decided to proceed with my wrist tattoo which looked great when he initially designed it. It's about 1 inch long and says "Create." in cursive. It's a tribute to my friend, who also was an artist (musician), who was killed by a drunk driver. It had a lot of meaning to me and was a daily reminder of him. Afterwards, It quickly became obvious that the artist used the wrong size needle or something because the writing is too thick, illegible and always stayed blurry like it had bled. I've had to explain to every person that sees it what it says because the letters blend with each other. In the picture I've posted you'll see that there's no appropriate spacing between the letters (although there was on the paper design that he made for me prior) and the top line in the letter T was never a smooth line. It's choppy. Finally, years later, I've saved enough for tattoo removal and am on session 3 of 10 which will take another 1.5 years. The first few years I was so embarrassed at the bad work that I just wore a watch constantly to cover it because I was sick of people asking what it was. This was SUCH a basic tattoo and I've always been shocked that a place with such reputable reviews did such a terrible job (or rather, had someone on staff that could mess up such a basic and small piece). I've walked into other "hole-in-the-walls" and have come out with much cheaper and much better quality tattoos. With that being said, he did an ok job on my friends tattoo, but really struggled with mine. I would never go back to Industrial Strength after this experience. read more

They sent me home saying everything was normal. Cut to a week later and my allergic reaction has gotten severely worse. So I go into Industrial. I felt like I was listened to, and I wasn't dismissed which is really nice considering how often women of color are told that their health issues are imaginary. I found this place by mistake and now I'll never go elsewhere for a piercing. They take safety and sanitation seriously, and are kind, knowledgeable and skilled! I had my philtrum repierced by Lysa after a previous piercer lied to me about the location I wanted it and then pierced it incredibly high. It turns out he was just lazy and didn't want to do a difficult piercing! Lysa took the time to lay out my options, show me where my placement could be and evaluate my webbing. She was honest and thorough, warning me that the area I wanted it wouldn't be a quick pop and done piercing, she would need to align it the entire time and I would feel every second of it. Boy did I! But I ended up with the most perfect piercing I could have asked for, the placement is beautiful, it healed far better than my last one and I'll gladly take an extra minute of discomfort and pain to be satisfied with the appearance of the piercing I paid for! A friend was with me and both of us were educated clearly on how to care for our specific piercings, and they have products for care right there so you don't have to worry about running to CVS for the right cleanser. The front area staff were also super helpful with jewelry options and evaluating what piercings are suitable for certain shapes (I wanted a Daith but with my ear anatomy they explained that it just wasn't safe for me because it would reject) and were quite honestly fabulous cheerleaders when we asked opinions on how certain things would look. This review is only for their piercing services and not their tattoos. Everything about my experience with industrial tattoo was great until I received my receipt. I emailed them before my appointment because I was interested in adding lobe piercings and had questions. They responded quickly, addressed my concerns, and adjusted my appointment in case I decided on doing my lobes too. They were also patient with me when I was choosing my jewelry. I scheduled my appointment with Andrea, but got Marina instead. While I had a wonderful experience with her, it was weird there was no explanation for the switch. She felt that one of my piercings was a little off and told me I could return to repierce it for free if it bothered me. My total came out to be a lot more than I expected. When I reviewed my receipt, I noticed I was overcharged for a pair of earrings and that each backing was a separate cost for the three earrings I had purchased. Each backing was $60, so it adds up quickly. I would have appreciated more transparency as a customer. I wouldn't mind paying for it if that was the price I was told and agreed upon, but they did not communicate that with me. They were helpful when I contacted them about it said it was a misquote and gave me a partial refund. Got there 5 minutes early to be considerate of the piercing people. All in all, I waited 26 minutes and watched as they took walkins before they took me. I'm wondering if it's because I'm older and therefore I didn't look like a promising customer in terms of being in the position of recommending other people. I left a sick husband at home to come take care of this, and I'm very disappointed in what I consider to be disorganized and disrespectful customer service. To the lame excuse that you called me when I walked out the door, why wouldn't you follow me and say "Hey we got our act together, and now we can honor your turn," 26 minutes later. Disappointed. I was recommended this studio for downsizing my piercing but when I went the piercer broke my earring. I understand that that is always a risk, but it was a $66 earring. And I was only given a replacement earring worth $25 (LESS than half the initial cost). But that was not the only issue as I requested compensation for the earring that was broken on THEIR behalf but was told no and was then told to tell the studio I initially got the piercing done at that I broke it when I changed it but I did not break it, THEY did when it was professionally changed. I also asked if they could contact the initial studio so I could get a replacement. Still, they said that I had to do it and that there were no guarantees that I would get any compensation or replacement, and still charged me $50 for the service that has left me with a broken earring and now 2 earrings that look fairly different from one another (a square and a circle).
