I am not in a position to attest to Mary's care because I simply never managed to get any. Their therapists might be wonderful but the office itself is very poorly managed. I scheduled a first appointment online and received an email confirmation only to be told, upon my arrival, that my name was not on the schedule. In other words, their online reservation system is useless. Moreover, the receptionist proceeded to inform me that she has no idea why I'm there in the first place because "Mary doesn't work in the mornings". (needless to say, I had rearranged things and scheduled my entire day around this appointment) She was not rude but acted as someone representing an office which has zero interest in taking on me as a patient. I have no reason to doubt that their select clientele receives fantastic care; unfortunately a member of hoi polloi like myself shall have to take my problems elsewhere. read more

I tried this place on a last minute whim and had a massage with Kate. I am a massage enthusiast and this was one of the best I've ever had. Although I normally like deep tissue, I asked for a Swedish because I was sore from a workout. As soon as she started I could tell that a deep tissue would be the best bet. Kate was very responsive to my request to switch and also to focus on my back, neck and shoulders. She got to some serious knots in a way that hurt a little bit at first (in a good way) and then I could feel them release, I've never had a massage quite like it. I often fall asleep but this felt more like a treatment...like she wasn't going to leave any bits tensed up. I was very relaxed when it was over, but instead of feeling super sleepy for the rest of the night, I actually perked up and felt pretty good. The best part is I still felt good for several days after vs. a more temporary fix. If you really value a good massage, this is definitely worth a try and very convenient to the metro. If you are looking for a spa-like atmosphere with robes and tea, this is not the place for you read more

Hi, I do agree with Leslie A. that the building was drab and dreary... Well here is the good news. The building was sold and the new owner completely upgraded it ; new carpet, floors, paint,etc.... Completely different experience. The staff is super friendly and the therapy is very effective. Marc's massages make you feel like you died and gone to heaven. read more

Been going to Dr. Ron here, wish I could give 10 stars. The hours are great and I'm able to schedule something even on the weekends too. He is the best doctor in DC/MD, would recommend anyone do monthly visits and the progress will be noticeable. read more

I am glad all reviews so far (June 2016) have been positive for this place. If I may got rid of the annoying first (which has nothing to do with the practice) is this weird building were you have to enter by code, looks really dreary and semi-abandoned and "1" is the First Floor, not L. Perhaps old, old, old? I'd say badly managed. I went to Physical Therapy with a serious pain on my left leg knowing it was a pinched nerve on my back. Dr. Christina K took my case and from the start demonstrated great knowledge and professionalism. Every session evolved into a better outcome, including a series of exercises to take home. Before I could not bend my knee and using the stairs was very uncomfortable. From what I feel now, I am cured. In addition, the Office's Reception is extremely welcoming and ready to accommodate you. With an ideal location, I would recommend this practice in spite of the building! read more

I have been going to PMTA since 2007. Almost on a weekly basis because I have lumbar spinal stenosis, bone growths and degenerative disc disease. I have worked with Mary Ellen and Marc and they are my lifesavers. I do not think I would be able to function physically without the relief they provide me. Marc has actually helped me recover from a temporary paralysis I got in 2008 on the left leg. I could not walk more than 3 steps without having to stop and bend down, as bending down or sitting down were the only positions that were not painful. Mary Ellen's cranio-sacral therapy, lymphatic drainage and use also of the ultrasound machine, plus her amazing knowledge of the bone and muscle anatomy has really saved me from staying in pain or asymmetrical every week. I would not go anywhere else. Plus the staff is wonderful: Rominque is a delight and reminds me of my weekly appts. Claudette manages the place in such a way that we all feel like family and not like patients. Both have a great listening gift, and they also throw the best Holiday party for all patients, the staff and the therapists who all come together for a buffet lunch. The ambiance makes all the difference from other high-tech PT places, where you feel like you are in a competitive gym club, with therapists looking like coming out of Sex and the City... I much prefer their low-key, convivial, knowledgeable and patient-friendly approach. read more

Following hip replacement surgery and routine follow-up physical therapy, I felt that I needed additional assistance from a high-quality physical therapist. In my search for this assistance, I discovered Physical & Massage Therapy Associates. My initial evaluation and subsequent treatment were with Dr. Christina Keltner. Christina is a friendly, down-to-earth, and easy to talk to PT, who readily answers questions. She was able to diagnose the specifics of the problems I was having and to treat those problems in a manner that filled me with confidence that I had found a therapist that could help me. Christina is the kind of therapist that doesn't just tell you what to do. She explains what the problem is and what she wants to accomplish by implementing the techniques, skills, and exercises that she uses. Being able to work with the same person, one-on-one for an hour session is an absolute gift for anyone that is going through rehab or trying to cope with chronic pain conditions. With Christina's guidance and knowledge, I have regained full use of my hip. After completing therapy for my hip, I realized that I should continue with her to address ongoing shoulder and back problems as well. Having a long history of muscle and joint chronic pain conditions, I only wish that I had found Christina sooner, yet grateful for finding her when I did. read more

I don't even know where to begin or how to describe my experience with this place. When I first got there, the front office staff attitude towards me was very rude. Her tone of voice was very demanding and she didn't allow me to speak or finish my sentence. That's how people miss important information because they don't listen... Anywho, she asked me for my id, insurance card and referral. I provided her with the items and she stated that my referral was 3 months old and I need an updated referral. I said that my insurance (Amerihealth Caritas) does not require referrals. She asked that I call the doctor and have them fax an updated referral. I complied and ended up calling both my doctor and the insurance company. I first called my doctor but I was unable to get in touch with someone at the office however I was able to talk with someone within my insurance company for clarity. The Rep said that I do not need a referral to be seen. I also had him speak to the front office person to clarify this claim. She then said, it is the office policy that the client have a referral. Nevertheless, the insurance Rep explained to her that Amerihealth Caritas did away with the referral process since Jan 2017, however she she insisted. Nevertheless, the Rep encouraged me to file a grievance against them in which I did. This office is not familiar with my insurance or the rules that apply thereof. The front office person then says I should have told her that my referral was three months old in advance and she could gave gotten it corrected before I came in... How about you put that in your reference guide as questions to ask when doing intake and scheduling appointments. In all scheme of things, I was not seen, the front office person behavior towards me was rude and condescending compared to my white counterparts. Customer service was poor and discrimination is at an all time high in this place. Beware!! read more

I first went to Physical and Massage Therapy Associates because I wanted a good massage after over doing it during three months of extensive gardening. I'd been having problems with my left shoulder and lower back. The sciatica-type pains were especially bothersome and painful. I chose P&MTA because I figured that having a massage at a place that also offered physical therapy would offer a good, healing massage rather than the "oh this feels so good" kind that doesn't really do much good at all. Kate is an incredible massage therapist and after two of her excellent massages, she had "fixed" my shoulder; however she felt my back issues needed physical therapy. After getting a prescription from my doctor, I began treatments with Danelle. I've had physical therapy at several places before, always in a big room where each therapist went from patient to patient. I didn't know any other way of approaching PT even existed. Inevitably, I would finish my exercises before the therapist made it back to me, and there was a lot of "dead time" where I wasn't sure what I should be doing. It was not like this with Danelle at all. Having her with me for the entire duration of the hour's appointment, in a private room was amazing! She is very petite, but don't let that fool you--she is strong!--and at the beginning of every session she spent probably 40 minutes doing hands-on treatment trying to get my stubborn old lady muscles to cooperate and move the way they should. The rest of each session was comprised of me doing the exercises she was assigning me to do at home so that I was familiar with my homework (or home work, depending upon how you look at it.) After we'd completed a few sessions I could feel a difference in how my body felt and the amount of pain I had been experiencing diminished. I always felt really great when I left Danelle's care, and over a period of a little more than six weeks she was able to send me on my way, pain free. Because of her dedication I have been diligent about doing the exercises she prescribed for me before I left. It's almost like I don't want to disappoint her and end up returning with the same problem because I know how hard she worked. I do miss our conversations, though--we had a lot of fun while working hard. I would never think of going to another Physical Therapy office after this experience, and will return for massages as often as I can manage it. read more

A friend referred me to PMTA as follow-up to my hip replacement surgery. I'm in the middle of my series of appointments and can say already that I've benefited a lot. I've worked with three different therapists thus far -- Alon, TJ, and Mary Ellen -- and while each has a different approach all three are excellent. This is not a high-tech place nor is it a woo-woo 'spiritual' place. They push me to surpass my previous limits and they lay hands on me to further the healing/ strengthening process.
