Inn of the Corps-Ward Lodge located on Camp Pendleton, CA Our stay at Ward Lodge was relaxing and pleasant, the room with double queen beds was spacious and clean. They served a hot breakfast every day (not much for options) Eggs, sausage or bacon cereal, muffins, bagels and fruit. The really cool thing was they had an automated pancake maker, simply wave your hand and the machine makes two (2) pancakes... no fuss, no mess. Another first was the onsite laundry room consisted of washers and dryers that use "Tap". Payment. This is far better than walking around with a bag of coins. House keeping was spotty, the house keepers would not enter the room if anyone was there... Hmmmm. They changed sheets every five days all other days trash pickup only, fresh towels more frequently if you insist. The front desk receptionist was friendly and courteous. Ward Lodge... as military lodging goes, is really nice, if I'm ever in San Diego again I would consider staying again. read more

It's an aging property that needs an upgrade. I think of this more like a Quality Inn level product. Good: Check-in was efficient. The queen room was clean. However, I did find a hair on a towel. There was parking. It's much cheaper than Pacific Views on the opposite side of the base. The breakfast was slightly better than the Pacific Views. It had more items like Polish sausage, pancakes, yogurt, and more slices of bread. The eggs were over-microwaved. They did have hard-boiled eggs. No cut fruit but Oranges and Apples. The breakfast area is small, but you could take the food back to your room or eat on the patio. They had a fenced-in area for your dog to poop. The bed was more comfortable than the bed at Pacific Views. The mini store had beer, snacks, and Kool-Aid jammers. The pricing was fine for these products. It's near Dominos, Raising Canes, Starbucks, MCX, and a few other restaurants in the MCX plaza. Also, near the base theater and the bowling alley. Meh: I didn't see a workout room. I know it's located near the Paige Fieldhouse, but if you are a veteran, you can't go there. Bad: The faucet needed an adjustment because when you shut it off, it still had water coming out. Everything felt dated. Some of the light fixtures didn't work. One lamp on the desk was ... plug into itself. There are plugs but no USB ports. Again, this hotel needs an update. EVERYTHING could improve. It's been about eight years since I stayed at Ward Lodge. I'm a retired DOD civilian. It appears that they haven't done any basic maintenance or renovation for YEARS!! It USED to be nice lodging years ago but what a disappointment now! The last painter they hired didn't tape anything and definitely had ZERO pride in their work. There's blotches of tan paint on white paint. It appears there has been NO painting done for years. The rooms aren't even that clean . There is plenty of dirt in the tiles of the bathroom around showers, dirt above door jams, and dirt on walls. There are times coming off the walls on the bathroom. Our room tonight is infested with tiny flies. The furniture should be thrown away. The piece of furniture holding the microwave and fridge is scratched badly and has a piece missing that covers the pressed wood furniture in the front. We tried to slide the desk a little bit and the leg almost ripped off. This place used to be quiet and peaceful but we had someone pounding on our ceiling or there floor all night. Loud music from cars pulling up at 7:00 AM both nights we were there. And this place isn't cheap by any means. It's $135 a night for a typical room or king bed or 2 queens. All I can say is the bedding was clean and comfortable and the AC worked well. I definitely won't be back and I've stayed at Ward Lodge at least 4 times before this disaster stay. It also wasn't bad luck with one room. This will our2nd room this stay. I complained about noise and not getting any sleep and they gave me a 10% discount - ridiculous! That amounted to $13.50. I figure I can get a discount at an IHG, Hilton or Marriot for less money than $135 even in this area and have a much nicer room. I'll definitely do that next time in the area rather than stay in this _ _ _ _ hole. read more

Not the cleanest or the nicest. Old and dated, hair in the tub when we checked in, odor of some sort kind of like a dog. I'm a retired Marine and we came here to see my son. This is probably the worst hotel on a base that I have stayed in awhile. Needs updating and they need to clean better. read more

This Inns of the Corps was comfortable and clean. While the bathrooms are in need of some cosmetic updates, everything was sanitary and functional. The beds were comfy and there was plenty of space for 2 adults and 2 kids. The staff was friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was your basic eggs, sausage, bread, yogurt, and cereal, but it was good to hold you over until lunch. We will stay here again and hopefully the next time, the bathrooms will have updated amenities. read more

I stayed here overnight to watch my youngest nephew play in a soccer tournament nearby. Upon check in, I was informed I would be in a pet friendly room. No luck in switching rooms because they were completely booked on this particular weekend. When I arrived at my room, I was expecting the worst (pet hair, pet smell), but when I entered the room, there was no sign of this room ever having had any pets. The room was clean and everything was in order. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the room. The cost was more than fair. The front desk staff was friendly. I'd definitely recommend staying here and will absolutely consider staying again if I'm in the area. read more

I would love to give it a 4 star but the bathroom is absolutely disgusting. So bad that even though it's the only issue I have here it drops it from a 4 to a 2. I went in to 2 other rooms thinking it had to be just mine that looked like this but that wasn't the case. I won't even shower in the room. I went to the gym to shower. The breakfast in the lobby is great for complimentary and the views and lounging areas are nice. UPDATED: Not that it should have even had to be addressed but after talking to the supervisor a maintenance person came and changed my shower head. It was appreciated. read more

I know a couple people bashed this place but for my family it was perfect. And you can't beat the price, especially if your brining your pet! No where in town will you get a room in with breakfast in the morning and pets for this price. Great kind staff, easy check in. Great breakfast. Beds were good. Facilities seems very well maintained. It is dated, so if your comparing it to a brand new modern hotel you can tell it could use a little face lift. But it was clean so that didn't matter to me. You cant beat the safety element. And did u mention they have a little gated playground. Perfect to help little ones get some wiggles out. I will be staying here again. Also I know in other reviews they mentioned thin walls... I did not have this issue at all... the nieghbors had dogs we had dogs, kids, and no noise issues at all. read more

Good. can be great, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. We got a room with a well apportioned kitchenette for $138 a night. Had to add an extra $25 a night for our kitty cat. No previous pet smells in our room. Similar rooms outside of Camp Pendleton run $225-250 a night and that doesn't include tax and other fees. Bathroom was somewhat dated and drain could be replaced but otherwise clean. Bed was fine. Sheets, pillowcases, and towels all clean. There was a small rollout bed that we did not use, but it was dirty. I let management know so they could deep clean for the next quests. Air conditioner worked like a champ. Walls are a bit thin but most people go to bed at 2200. Toilet was also clean and worked just fine. Water nice and hot when needed. Room service once every four days. Breakfast was actually pretty decent and runs from 6-9 weekdays and 7-10 weekends. Television only had 17 channels, but there was free Showtime. Recommend using your Netflix account if you have one. Internet worked perfectly. Small snack bar in lobby but the Main side Exchange is right across Vandergrift. Plenty of dining options there too. Golf course is nearby (not walking distance) as is a 36 lane bowling alley. Both have dining option. There is a theater too, but I think it only shows movies on the weekend. Parking was no proble, but when full you may not get a space just outside your room. Lots of families In the beginning or final stages of their moves, so some maybe a little stressed out. Smile and help the if you can. MCCS personnel were all courteous and professiona. Overall, we were pleased. Eventually they will need to replace some plumbing fixtures and other upgrade. read more

Natalia answered the phone today to make my reservations. She was thorough and patient in describing to me the different types of rooms and layouts that were available for this upcoming weekend. She efficiently took my info and went over all the requirements. I received an email confirmation for this weekend and was told I would be charged $148 if I didn't cancel 48 hours in advance. I learned that we would not need this reservation and immediately called Natalia back to cancel. I received email confirmation of the cancellation almost the second I got off the phone. Beautiful experience with this place and the rates are more than fair. I will look them up again when it comes time to do so. So impressed with Natalia. (not including a whole bunch of other relatives) Synopsis: Came here for a wedding. Nice place to stay. Comfy beds and place is SECURE. Narrative: Arrived after a very long drive from San Francisco and checked into facility. Enjoyed the scenery along Highway One (Pacific Coast Highway to you SoCal folks) with a wonderful view of the ocean. The main gate seems to be guarded by a bunch of 18 year old Marines. However, these guys ain't joking around and they are thorough. It was a nice break away from work since it was in the middle of the hotel lockout/strike. Been working 12 hour days and 6 day weeks for about 2 months straight and I was bushed. The paycheck was nice but I didn't get to see the family so there was definitely stress. OK, it's not a Westin or a Marriot, but it was nice. It's also good to have a family member in the military as you definitely get some discounts and perks. Rooms were large and every room had a DVD player. You can't even say that for every hotel chain. And if they do have a DVD player, they might charge you extra. They have every basic thing you need here and the staff was friendly. I was also speaking to the staff in Tagalog as the majority of them were Filipino. These people are just so nice, friendly and helpful. Must be the culture. =) Coffee and snacks at the Front Desk, playground for the kids, a nice Pacific ocean breeze to make you relax...what more could you ask for? NO TAX. Summary: Hoo Rah! read more

I am in the Navy and wished Navy Lodges would take notes from the Ward Lodging management team. Free breakfast, free internet in the room, and most important spacious rooms for the double queen beds. Best part is THEY don't charge for print OUTs like the Navy lodge. I just wished it wasn't so far from the freeway or from the main gate. I received the last room with a kitchenette. I was told upon check-in that it was pet friendly and warned by the front desk clerk that their pet friendly rooms usually have a foul odor. I asked her if this was the case, why doesn't housekeeping take care of the problem? None of the outlets in the kitchen worked, when I mentioned this to the front desk, they sent someone who said that it smelled like an electrical fire was trying to start. I asked if maybe it would be appropriate to move me to a different room. The front desk lady told me the only other room was reserved starting Wednesday; this was Sunday. I told her that I would not be moving back to a room with electrical issues. The new room was not pet friendly but smelled way worse than the first one. There were 2 big oily stains on the carpet, multiple clear elastic hair ties, or dental work rubber bands, then lots and lots of hair all over the bathroom from ALL parts of the body!! The facility is old, sure, that's fine, it is clear where the money is funneled into and it is not here, but the cleanliness of it is deplorable! Avoid at all costs. read more

Breakfast that we have here is cool. Also we do have snack in the Lobby for you to pay for. Even we do have dvd players in every room and we have a movie rental for $6.00 for 24hrs, But we have this new thing with the movies now that you can rent a movie for a $1.00 for an hour. I think thats cool. Well i hope yall come and check the place out and also the room rate for the rooms are $65 for a Queen bed w/ a pull out or you can get Two Queens size beds, $70 you can get a King size bed w/ pull out or Two Queens size beds. My husband and I stayed here for a week before he deployed to Afghanistan and I flew back to Connecticut. During a very emotional and stressful time, it was wonderful to be able to stay in a nice clean room with a decent wi-fi signal. We also took advantage of the laundry room and none of our items got damaged or lost (hooray!). The only reason that I didn't give them 5 stars is because the wi-fi could be a bit strong, but it is free, so yay for that, and we found a spider in our room right when we arrived. The front desk staff was very accommodating and offering to switch our room, but we searched the room thoroughly and didn't find any others. That being said, it is disappointing that they missed it when cleaning the room from the previous guest. All that being said, my husband and I would happily stay here again and we plan to book rooms for visiting family in the future. read more

My stay here was fantastic! We had adjoining rooms with kitchenette's that are furnished with everything you need for 4 people. The rooms were very clean and the beds were very comfortable. Every morning the Lobby Staff sets up the best ever free breakfast! My favorite was the make it yourself waffles. There was also french toast, bagels, donuts, 4 kinds of cold cereal, hard boiled eggs...just the best ever! The lobby also rents DVDs, it's 5 dollars for each 24 hours, so you can watch as many movies (one out at a time) has you can stand! They have a very large selection too. All the staff, from the Front Desk to Housekeeping were great, friendly and very helpful. read more

Terrible place to stay - the bed was like sleeping on saggy springs. The furniture was worn out and stained. The overall appearance was worn and drab. Way too expensive for the low quality of the room. Reminded me of an old Motel 6. I would NEVER stay there again. I expected a lot more from an Inn of the Corps. Very disappointed. read more

I had a weekend off of work and took a small vacation with my children to visit my husband. We had such a wonderful stay, the room was very clean and I loved that they had a DVD player in the room to help keep the kids at bay. The kitchen in the room was a lifesaver since it allowed us to save money eat in then having to eat out for every meal. They had a Continental Breakfast which was amazing and not to mention the fact the entire staff was so nice and more them accommodating during our 3 day stay. The rates were perfect considering it was the off season (winter season). We will defiantly be coming back again on our next trip to visit my husband. read more

Had to stay here for one night during a PCS move; if it was more than one night, it would have made me lose it. The main room was reasonably clean, and the front desk staff was friendly, but that is the end of the list of positives. The bathroom had a number of issues, including no plug for the bathtub to give my nineteen month old a bath, broken overflow drain plate, and cracked/falling apart grouting that appeared mildewy. The walls are also *extremely* thin; the occupants of the room behind ours were having a pretty raucous evening, causing my dog to continue to bark and growl most of the night, and in the room next to ours (which had an adjoining door) I could hear the alarm clock (which went off and was snoozed eight times before 0630) and every word of conversation as if I was in the room with them. For over a $100/night, do yourself a favor and stay out in town. read more

Some of my best memories with my husband (future hubby at the time) were made here. We spent Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Valentine's Day at the Ward. The Ward offers a number of different discounts and bundles for the holidays. Staff are very nice and accommodating. Wi-Fi is available here, which is not the case with other lodging on base. Bbq and fire pits are available, along with a small play ground for kids. Continental breakfast is served every morning and has many options. Be sure to reserve in ADVANCE. read more

I have been staying at Ward Lodge since June 22, 2013 while waiting for base housing. I have 4 in my family. Ward Lodge has a complimentary breakfast, complimentary in room wifi, DVD player, and flat screen TV. Area 13 pool is a very short walk through the hotel parking lot and down a set of steps. The pool has been a blessing for entertaining my children while we wait for housing. We can walk to Wendy's fast food, The Country Store (expanded convenience store), coffee shop, Subway, PX, and Johnny Rockets restaurant. The main side base library is close by. Staff are exceptionally friendly, especially Pang. We have a kitchenette with 2 queen beds. There is enough room, but little privacy for a family of 4. I would certainly recommend staying here. read more

my husband, I, and 2 kids are here for an extended stay. its been shabby to say the least. unprofessional front desk staff, weve dealt with spiders, mice, and house keeping hasnt come by in 3 days. weve been here over a week and when they do come, they only refresh towels; no coffee, they dont make the beds, they havent vacuumed. its pretty disguisting. our other complaint is all the facilities that we cant use. the park is closed. we are told its because they plan on tearing it down. 2 of the 3 heat lamps in the outside area are broken, the third needed propane. we told the front desk but noone ever came out to fix it. Weve had problems with the dryers, i told the front desk and they didnt put a sign on it so others didnt waste their money trying to dry their clothes. We are beyond upset about our stay and eventhough its not expensive; its not worth the price we are paying. obviously poor management. read more
