Just a dirty place. Period. Maybe because we had pets? Not sure. Not cool. Fingers crossed we never have to stay here again.

This is how badly all the rooms are in need of just some basic painting

EVERYTHING could improve. It's been about eight years since I stayed at Ward Lodge. I'm a retired DOD civilian. It appears that they haven't done any basic maintenance or renovation for YEARS!! It USED to be nice lodging years ago but what a disappointment now! The last painter they hired didn't tape anything and definitely had ZERO pride in their work. There's blotches of tan paint on white paint. It appears there has been NO painting done for years. The rooms aren't even that clean . There is plenty of dirt in the tiles of the bathroom around showers, dirt above door jams, and dirt on walls. There are times coming off the walls on the bathroom. Our room tonight is infested with tiny flies. The furniture should be thrown away. The piece of furniture holding the microwave and fridge is scratched badly and has a piece missing that covers the pressed wood furniture in the front. We tried to slide the desk a little bit and the leg almost ripped off. This place used to be quiet and peaceful but we had someone pounding on our ceiling or there floor all night. Loud music from cars pulling up at 7:00 AM both nights we were there. And this place isn't cheap by any means. It's $135 a night for a typical room or king bed or 2 queens. All I can say is the bedding was clean and comfortable and the AC worked well. I definitely won't be back and I've stayed at Ward Lodge at least 4 times before this disaster stay. It also wasn't bad luck with one room. This will our2nd room this stay. I complained about noise and not getting any sleep and they gave me a 10% discount - ridiculous! That amounted to $13.50. I figure I can get a discount at an IHG, Hilton or Marriot for less money than $135 even in this area and have a much nicer room. I'll definitely do that next time in the area rather than stay in this _ _ _ _ hole.

I would love to give it a 4 star but the bathroom is absolutely disgusting. So bad that even though it's the only issue I have here it drops it from a 4 to a 2. I went in to 2 other rooms thinking it had to be just mine that looked like this but that wasn't the case. I won't even shower in the room. I went to the gym to shower. The breakfast in the lobby is great for complimentary and the views and lounging areas are nice. UPDATED: Not that it should have even had to be addressed but after talking to the supervisor a maintenance person came and changed my shower head. It was appreciated.

I know a couple people bashed this place but for my family it was perfect. And you can't beat the price, especially if your brining your pet! No where in town will you get a room in with breakfast in the morning and pets for this price. Great kind staff, easy check in. Great breakfast. Beds were good. Facilities seems very well maintained. It is dated, so if your comparing it to a brand new modern hotel you can tell it could use a little face lift. But it was clean so that didn't matter to me. You cant beat the safety element. And did u mention they have a little gated playground. Perfect to help little ones get some wiggles out. I will be staying here again. Also I know in other reviews they mentioned thin walls... I did not have this issue at all... the nieghbors had dogs we had dogs, kids, and no noise issues at all.

This place is disgusting! I have no idea why it has good reviews, makes me think they're fake. Plenty pubic hair in the bathroom, the room smells dirty , I took off my shoes and the floor was sticky, the sink was clogged, the pillows smell like sweat and so on...

Best Military Installation Lodging! Highly recommended. I am staying in the Standard room and it is fantastic. The atmosphere is great, warm breakfast, coffee and front desk 24-7. Super helpful and friendly staff!

My stay here was fantastic! We had adjoining rooms with kitchenette's that are furnished with everything you need for 4 people. The rooms were very clean and the beds were very comfortable. Every morning the Lobby Staff sets up the best ever free breakfast! My favorite was the make it yourself waffles. There was also french toast, bagels, donuts, 4 kinds of cold cereal, hard boiled eggs...just the best ever! The lobby also rents DVDs, it's 5 dollars for each 24 hours, so you can watch as many movies (one out at a time) has you can stand! They have a very large selection too. All the staff, from the Front Desk to Housekeeping were great, friendly and very helpful.

We got the kitchenette room. Very spacious and practical if you have little ones

Dawn and Ed are great communicators, they had cookies ready for us on arrival, and Dawn met us to check us in and give us info. We stayed in the Rose room, which is roomy, has a heater and an old fireplace which they give you wood for. Bathroom/shower has a separate heater, and the room has its own patio, but we found it's much nicer to explore the grounds and sit on one of their many benches and chairs spread throughout the hillside with nice views. There are cows across the street that are friendly, and we went to say hi to them in the mornings and feed them tall grass. And don't forget to step outside the cottage at night to gaze at the Milky way galaxy...you heard me correctly...not just stars, you can see the faint outline of the Milky way because Julian is a Dark Sky community and Ed and Dawn's place is very dark at night...epic! Breakfasts are a delicious two course meal of a fruit dish and main. Added bonus is chatting with Ed and Dawn about Julian history and getting tips on places to go/eat. Ed and Dawn were also accommodating to bring our breakfast to their outdoor patio since my fiancé had some smell sensitivity to the food cooking in the main room (but also, it's kind of nicer to sit outside, but then you miss communing with the other guests) The main breakfast/communal area has a bunch of books and movies you can check out and take to your room, along with microwavable popcorn...we watched Gone with the Wind on VHS with the fire burning at night...such a charming and memorable time! Thanks Dawn and Ed! Our only recommendations would be: 1) for those with allergies, getting some cotton bed sheets rather than microfiber/synthetic material (we asked but they didn't have any at the time) 2) while we loved the charm of the themed rooms, there is just a lot of stuff, i.e. old teddy bears/dolls on shelves, old style window curtains that are more for show rather than necessary since the windows already have blinds, these things just make the room feel crowded and also gather dust. But maybe that's just our minimalist preference? 3) The room is advertised with a Queen bed, but seemed more like a Full (perhaps it's a European Queen?), just seemed on the smaller side. In any event, we'll probably try to book the Apple room next time which has a King size bed (which was already taken during our stay) and has a view into the woods. 4) the couch/futon cushion is detached from the wood frame and has a tendency to slide around, and it's also bigger than the seating area, so you could end up sitting on the cushion but not the frame, thus falling down.

We filled out a paper for our next two mornings breakfast. We checked into our room, Verbena. Room was clean, a bit worn and tired, but that's not something that concerns me. People stay here all the time. I get it. It was relaxing and calm, peaceful and restful. I was a bit nervous as previous reviews talked about lack of sleep from the nearby trains that go by all hours of the night. Honestly, they supply ear plugs and we slept just fine. The breakfast basket was delivered the next morning and the food was amazing. We loved it. Healthy healthy healthy!!! We set up the breakfast on our outdoor deck and ate in peaceful bliss. After breakfast we took a stroll (5 min) to Moonlight Beach and downtown Encinitas. The next day was exactly the same. There are some very extremely minor things we noticed. Parking is tricky. But doable. There were mosquitoes in our room/outdoor deck, but they supply a natural bug spray to help with those critters. There were a lot of spider webs outside on the deck and upper corners and around the lights. Again, we get it. We're in nature. There's bugs in nature. So what. It didn't take away from our experience and we loved all that the Inn offered. They've thought of everything to take care of each and every visitor. From beach chairs, umbrellas, blankets, to activities( rock painting, etc) to a hallway filled with complimentary healthy snacks and teas, each member of the team here at the IAMB is warm, friendly and welcoming. We can't wait to return. Thank you IAMB!!! Thank you for your gracious hospitality and kindness in your service. You left a lasting impression upon us. Mahalo!!

I especially appreciated what seemed like local art being used throughout the entire house to tastefully decorate -- without going overboard with clutter. That was well done. But, netting out at almost $800/night increases expectations and so it probably deserves more like 3 or 3-1/2 stars. It was a 3 bedroom home and was ok -- nothing fancy or high-end. So maybe the cost was based on the size? Importantly, what we really believed we were paying extra for that would have been worth the money was the "farm stay" aspect. It may have been a house on a farm property, but it was not a "farm stay experience." The only thing that came close were the animals, but their enclosures were small, cramped, on the side of the road (which was steep and hard to walk on), and the animals did not look healthy or well taken care of. The alpaca's fur was matted up and many of the chickens had bald spots on their backs, potentially due to overcrowding, rooster overbreeding, or aggressively going after each other in such a small space for so many hens (and hopefully not from parasites). It was a side show vs. a real farm experience. Back to the house, another attraction in the listing was the hot tub -- but it had a really horrible smell. The towels we used to dry off with kept the smell too. We used it on the first day, but not afterward. It's a shame. If the hot tub issue were fixed, the property is nice enough, but I do believe it is mis-marketed. It'd probably be very appealing for a bigger group who is visiting the Temecula wine country scene, but who doesn't want to be in the middle of the fray and, instead, wants a quieter location that feels off the beaten path. It should not be marketed as a "farm stay." And the poor animals should definitely go, especially as they feel like such an after thought on the property anyhow.
