Three of us went for lunch and everyone was very disappointed in both the quality and price of the food. Two had the chicken sandwich which was large, but very dry and is not recommended. My burger was small and not nearly worth the exorbitant price. The location is convenient and the wait staff accommodating, but be prepared to be taken advantage of when it comes to food. A better choice would be any neighborhood bar or Uncle Gussie's food truck on the corner. There is a reason the food truck has such a long line! read more

This is where Jesus goes to party after a long week of smiting unbelievers and sitting in really long prayer meetings. There's nothing I like more in a church than the ability to have some tasty drinks and a cheese plate while I contemplate the state of my soul. (That contemplation usually leads to more drinks) Inside Park @ St Bart's lets me do exactly that - there is a restaurant in the old church community building but what you really want is the terrace on a warm sunny afternoon. You can certainly have a meal but the Mister and I were here for a snack and a refreshment. The space itself is really inviting - there are some small couch/lounge areas as well as a full bar plus tables for dining. There's music (sometimes live) and once you're here you really don't feel like you're smack in the center of Midtown anymore. The wine list is pretty "meh" but the cocktails ($14) are great. I had a Josephine which was blackberries, St Germaine and champagne - strong, pretty and delicious - just like me. We also had a cheese tray which was fairly small but good quality. The crowd seems to be a lot of UES finance-bros and their Ann Taylor Loft clad companions so don't show up in shorts, a tweety bird tshirt and a fanny pack. Service was efficient but not particularly friendly. I understand as the typical order went a lot like this: "She'll have a Pomegranitini and I'll have a Bullit Rye with 2 ice cubes" (because the horrors of watering down a middling-quality whiskey are real, my friends). St Bart's does a lot of community outreach, including a food bank located on the other side of the church. I hope the overpriced drinks I consumed help them keep on with their mission of serving needy NY'ers and getting chatches lit up during happy hour. read more

A great big "What the what??" So a Facebook old friend comes to NYC on business. She sends me an email saying she's in NYC and lets meet for lunch. Great! Lets have a fab NYC lunch, I have a long list of cool places. She said she doesn't have enough time and she's staying at the The Waldorf Astoria. There's a place next door. But we need to Momofuku... Ok, I'll meet you on Park ave We walk into this large place, the outside is really pretty. Used to be a church? Really? We sit down and look at the menu. We order wine, Shrimp Cocktail and Truffle Risotto balls. Talk about balls? That's a lotta balls baby! We shared the balls and shrimp, so far so good. Pretty tasty. Next are the entrees. She ordered a Salmon salad with beets that looked pretty good. I love beets and there was two types of beets, yellow beets and purple beets. Weirdness came with my dish. I ordered the "Chicken Paillard" . Don't know what that is? Lemme explain. Take a chicken breast and pound the HELL out of it until its flat like cardboard. Then, cook it on the grill to get all the flavor and fat out of it so it tastes lifeless. Then throw a handful of salad on the plate and serve it to me. Friggin animals. My lunch sucked......... So the bill comes, $87 dollars. What, The. Hell! Then I start looking at the crowd here. Its a very weird vibe, not a touchy feely crowd like in Hells Kitchen. If it weren't for the beautiful ambiance of this Cafe I would have probably given a 2 star for the food. This is the second time I've dined for lunch. For some reason, the food just is not special. Last time I ordered a sandwich (it was mediocre) and today it was hot so I opted for the cobb salad. When it came out, it was small little sections of each ingredient with 2 huge pieces of red lettuce. The dressing was ok. Overall, it was not really what I envisioned but it was my lunch. I do enjoy the huge umbrellas, flowers and sunshine so I happily picked up the check. 3.5 stars. Came here for a work function. Arrived to find a seething swarm of business suits and cocktails outside, but an incredibly serene (read: empty) interior. There was only one waitress inside, and that was more than enough to accommodate the maybe 3 tables of guests. A strange slideshow played on the back wall, and the room itself felt more like a middle school auditorium. The menu was short and we were told that "everything on the menu is special." The grassfed ribeye I had was reasonably tasty, if a bit undercooked for medium rare. Not sure if it was worth the $32 price tag. It came with an interesting salad that I had a hard time identifying the ingredients of, but none of it was so tasty that I had to know what it was. My fellow diners seemed to enjoy their mussels, salmon, crab cake and pork chop, but I didn't hear any oohs or aahs. One of the best kept secrets about NYC. Went w/a BlackBoard Eats, and wowed us with their service and food. Had the Atlantic red snapper w/fennel, the bolognese and broccoli rabe orchiette. All dishes were winning. Prices were reasonable. Our waiter was professional and attentive. Our friends are definitely going back. Went here for Sunday brunch on the terrace. There is definitely a tropical feel... I was waiting for island breezes to cool me down. So for atmosphere, I'll give Inside Park oodles of stars... but sadly, that's about it. We ordered the pastry basket, which was good, but kinda blah. Nothing that "wow'ed" me... though the coconutish muffin was rather tasty. Bloody Mary's were decent... though nothing special. I ordered the Brioche French toast with mascarpone cheese and figs. While it WAS tasty, it didn't leave me feeling full. Also, one of my fellow diners asked for the home fries which were clearly listed on the menu and the waiter said "we don't have homefries". And it wasn't in a "we just ran out" sort of way... it was like "home fries? we offer no such thing". Instead he said he'd bring us french fries... which when delivered to the table, were identical to any home fries I've ever eaten. Weird. Some friends and I came here for a drink after having dinner and we enjoyed ourselves. Décor: It's an outside patio right in front of a beautiful church. There are tons of tables and plenty of room to just stand and hang out. It is wildly popular, as you might imagine, with the after work crowd on nice (summer) days/evenings. There are also, at least what appeared to be, several bars to choose from so there wasn't a bottleneck for getting a fresh beer. Bathroom: I don't think there is one Staff: Our bartender was kind of a jag when we inquired about the cost of three shots we ordered, but other than that things were fine. Drinks: It's a (almost) full bar so you can be sure they'll have what you're looking for. Additionally, they have a small selection of different beers. Value: It's a cool spot, so prices are a bit higher. But nothing that will break your wallet. We had a good time and would stop over again if we're in the area. read more

I've been coming here for a corporate events for the last 3 years. Great setting if it is not too hot (not much wind like you do get in a rooftop). Passed hors d'oeuvre and station with hummus, cheeses and cured meats were great quality. Staff was nice, both at the bar and waiters. I love the location and that it overlooks Park Ave and the Met Building. The church behind is also very cute. I'm sure I'll be back for Happy Hour. When we went there, there was a fairly loud, irritating event of people standing next to the tables; we're not sure if it was a corporate event (in which case it may have just been our bad luck) or part of the restaurant's regular operations. read more

This is an awesome spot to meet friends after work, relax, and unwind. The atmosphere is fun and trendy, while the scenery is gorgeous. The food is tasty, but not the best of the best in the city. It is a super happening place for young professionals to meet up and chill after a long day at the office. So in anticipation of the fantastic weather and my best friend coming into to town, I thought that Cafe St. Bart's would be the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely lunch outdoors...unfortunately, I found out that Cafe St. Bart's was no longer in existence and that a new restaurant would be taking its place at St. Bartholomew's church. I looked up the menu online and wasn't particularly impressed, but who can resist going to a new restaurant just after its opened? The brand new "Inside Park at St. Bart's" features a limited, new American menu and is open for lunch/brunch (11:30am to 3pm), while its bar stays open until 7pm. There was a thirty minute wait for lunch when my friend and I arrived but we were happy to hang around the bar and chat with the friendly bartender while we waited. The bar/wait staff was comprised of almost all relatively handsome middle-aged men (not so unlike the general clientele of the restaurant). Since neither my friend nor I had to go to work afterwards, we enjoyed a good amount of their alcoholic beverage selection (I found the Inside Park martini (which featured cilantro) to be the most intriguing, but also enjoyed the Sooz martini)). All booze aside, we opted to start with the Charcuterie plate ($16) as an appetizer and were pleased by the selection of cured meats and the unusual pickeled vegetables (we're still not sure what they were). My friend selected the Mushroom pizzette ($16) for her entree and upon the server's recommendation I went for the butter clams ($22). All I can say is that it's a good thing that we had an appetizer and weren't starving or else I would have found my *small* portion of butter clams to be supremely disappointing--since I wasn't terribly hungry, however, I really enjoyed the broth in which my clams were steamed along with the fava beans. My friend enjoyed her pizzette but was not able to taste the truffle which was advertised in the meal's description. The service was pretty enjoyable, although since all the servers were essentially assisting all of the tables there were points at which my friend and I were searching around for someone to rescue our drinks from the bar (they were calling to us!). All in all I greatly appreciated a place such as this on such a beautiful day (keep in mind, I still have a buzz from lunch) but I'm not sure that it was money well spent--you're probably better off getting the burger/cubano sandwich for lunch or else just stopping by for after work drinks. read more

Sitting outside is fantastic. This spot is perfect for summertime. And for drinks. Being it's next to the Waldorf=Astoria, on Park Avenue, and in Midtown where expense-accounters go, prices are higher than they should be. But compared to nearby places, only slightly higher. Here's my issue today - I had a reservation. I waited IN FRONT of the hostess stand that had three hostesses behind it. They were bumping into one another and not acknowledging me. When i was about to interrupt whatever they were not doing, my dining companion got up and brought me to my own table. You're in Midtown. At lunch time. GET IT TOGETHER. This should be routine. Smile and greet customers. Escort them to their tables. Oh and, yes I'll go here, please consider what is appropriate attire - especially when taking into account your patrons. Our waitress Serena was sweet and attentive. The kitchen knows it's midtown lunch - very fast. My salad was out in less than 15 minutes. The Asian Chop Chop was very good - but i did find various questionable black things in it leaving me to suggest they could try washing their lettuce better. There's no place like in the area - which is the only reason i would go back. Because crap service - like the hostess stand here - really pisses me off. read more

The WORST service I've had in my 8 years in New York. We were a party of 4 for a Saturday lunch. Only 4 of the 25 tables inside the church were occupied, so the service should have been great. We waited 30 minutes for soup. Then 2 of us received our entrees. 20 minutes after we FINISHED eating our entire plates, the other 2 entrees arrived. We complained to the manager 2x about the timing, but he was dismissive. They then had the gall to leave us the check with an 18% gratuity automatically added. Finally, after calling over the manager and complaining a third time, he reluctantly agreed to give us a discount. Went there for dinner on an early Friday evening without a reservation. The unpleasantness started as soon as we got there. The restaurant was practically empty. However, the hostess stilled asked us to wait at the bar, as the tables are mostly "booked". Okay, proceed to the bar. We ordered a cheese plate to go with the wine. 20 minutes passed, and no sign of our cheese. Seriously, how difficult is it to cut up some cheese, and arrange them on a plate?? It didn't come until we were about to cancel the order, as we were getting seated. Nobody came over to offer us any water, or the menu. We waited for like 5-10 minutes, and finally just grabbed the menu from the hostess's desk on our own. By the time, we've taken a good look at the menu, I still had not seen our waitor showing up. We then had to grab one of the water boys, and tell him to get someone to take our order. The guy finally came, completely unapologetic. The food was actually okay. However, throughout the entire dinner, the only time I saw our waitor was when he came to take our order. Also, the restaurant remained half empty for the rest of the evening, which leaves me wondering 1) what was the whole our-tables-are-all-booked-so-wait-at-the-bar talk about; 2) what has been keeping the waitor so busy that he doesn't even have time to come by. There was no service, whatsoever. When we were ready to get the check and leave, again, we had to look for the waitor. When the guy came, I told him point blank to bring his manager over. The manager offered us a complimentary dessert and 2 small glasses of dessert wine, as an apology. However, I will never go back there ever again. read more

Weird. We stopped in here for a quick drink, so we can't vouch for the food, but this is essentially a wine bar/bistro which is partially contained in a majestic old church. It was really hot, so we wanted to sit inside, and we were taken to a booth indoors where we ordered a round of cocktails. They were okay, a little hurried - mine had to sit for ten minutes before it tasted of anything - but at $12-$14 per drink, a long way from being impressive. The main issue was the staff, none of whom seemed to really know what they were doing. The hostess seemed half asleep, for starters, not really knowing how to react when we said we wanted to drink inside. Another server (the one who was meant to help us originally?) came along ten minutes after we'd ordered our drinks to take our drinks order... "um, we ordered them ten minutes ago..." Simple crossed wires like that tend to stick in my mind. The manager approached us smiling when we were mostly finished, introducing himself in case we needed any "help". He seemed astonished to simply have customers to talk to. I'm not in any hurry to return, maybe sitting outside would be an improvement, but the reviews seem to agree that the food is not great. Inside the Park at St. Bart's has an amazing location, especially during the summertime if you can get one of the outdoor tables with an umbrella. The servers were very friendly and patient with our requests, which is always appreciated. And the food was definitely decent...I loved the calamari (it was a surprisingly large portion) and the lemon sorbet for dessert, but the truffle burger could use a smaller, softer bun. read more

Really, really, really mediocre which was very disappointing considering I had this vision of a great restaurant inside a beautiful New York landmark. Decor-wise, Inside Park isn't actually "inside" St. Bart's proper, but rather in a structure to the side. The interior has wood beams, windows, etc but has none of the airy vaulted ceilings from the church. I was extremely underwhelmed by the food. Most notably, I ordered the baked oysters to start, which weren't exactly what I was expecting. They turned out to be these absolutely tiny oysters (and you only get 4!) swimming around in some kind of white sauce. For mains, I had parpadelle with rabbit ragu, which was too dry for my taste. My baked Alaska for dessert was equally substandard - the outer meringue wasn't crispy enough or hot enough either, so the general texture of the dish ended up being slightly mealy, sweet, room temperature goo. The Riesling I had to go with the meal wasn't anything to write home about. I suppose Inside Park is good for a low-key meal if you or your guests aren't too picky, but in New York, this sort of thing generally won't fly with slightly more discerning diners. read more

I came here for drinks with a group of friends to celebrate an engagement. I love the setting, it's unique and lovely. However, bartender gave me such an attitude for having ordering a Shirley Temple rather than an alcoholic drink. Not only did he give me verbal attitude, but then essentially gave me water and a cherry on top as my Shirley Temple. I was in a bit of a shock (to say the least) at just how unprofessionally he treated a customer. The music was nice, but really loud. We're a group of young people who don't mind loud music, but it was really hard to hold a conversation. The drinks are also pricey compared to similar bars in Manhattan, and smaller than usual. They're only nice on the facade, unfortunately, so I wouldn't recommend it. read more

The host informed us upon arrival that they did not have their kitchen open that night, not sure what's up with that? So it was a drinks only type of night for them I guess, not cool to take away that option from guests. Anyhow it was not packed but it wasn't empty either, they had good music going and the bartender was really sweet. Drinks are about $14 each, non-happy hour (if any) prices.The drinks were good, one was whiskey which was definitely not my type so I won't rate that, I was told it's decent. The other was a misty grapefruit drink, a bit on the sour side as the menu states. The women's bathroom was very small, literally two doors in a hallway and maybe 4x4 area to wash hands. I wouldn't mind stopping by here to grab a drink after-work, however I'm sure there are other bars in the area with better prices. It's located right off of park avenue, a bit more tucked in from the wide avenue. It's a fantastic location for a networking scene. Try making it to the happy hour if they have one! read more

I don't know what to say other than that this place was pretty lousy. The outdoor seating right next to the church is nice but cramped and loud. (Went for lunch on a Friday afternoon.) Food was pricey but lousy. I had a salad and soup and something in the salad almost broke my tooth. I chewed on really chewy bread and was thankful my business partner paid. I would have had to give this place a worse review. If you want to hang out for an hour and sip coffee or an ice tea, I'd recommend it. Stopped in at this restaurant because a coworker mentioned how good the food was. I decided to take her there for lunch for what was her last week with our company. The young lady at the front is so very pleasant and inviting. We sat inside as there was a bit of a chill in the fall air. The inside is pretty stuffy, felt like a cigar room in a way. Unfortunately we sat at a booth where there was a continuous obnoxious racket. And after inquiring, and a little investigation by the staff, we were told it was something with the water pipes. To my surprise we were not offered to move our seats although there were other available seats, we sat there for the duration of our lunch. It was very noisy and distracting. The food was very good and the waitstaff prompt and courteous. Suggestion: perhaps when something like this occurs the manager should make an offering to move seats or something complimentary. read more

Went here with co-workers for lunch. We all had the fried calamari, lobster rolls, and sparkling wine. Service was great, food was great, drinks were great. The lobster rolls were the right amount of mayo, the calamari was hot and crisp. The outdoor area is kind of back to the side of a church, so it's not facing traffic, and you don't have to sit there eating with car exhaust in your face. If it's a nice day and you're looking for a kind of splurgey lunch, this is the place to go. read more
