Pretty standard pub food, atmosphere is pleasant and so is the service. Nothing really stood out on the apps or entrees but all was decent.

We visited here for drinks on the Friday evening after Thanksgiving. It is a gorgeous pub, with dark wood and plenty of bar and dining seating available. The bartender was engaging and so lovely and we had a few laughs. We ordered an appetizer and it was great and would not hesitate to order from thier menu next time round. The vibe was relaxed and comfortable, the prices reasonable, service top notch. We would recommend and plan to return. read more

Absolutely loved this place. It is strangely closed on Saturday's. But. I finally made it back on a Friday evening. Food is great. Everything was delicious. Salad. With rare steak and shrimp. Fresh and delicious Quesadilla- perfect. Cheesy and fresh Fried mozzarella sticks. Great. Not too much batter. Side of mushroom. I pretty much ate it so quick was ready for one more. Ate lunch here today with the Boss/Bestie. The Blackwell Burger was delicious and so was my glass of Sauvignon Blanc! I would recommend that the fries be cooked longer to be more crispy. The Boss had the Firecracker sandwich and it looked delicious. Great friendly service a plus! read more

We were looking for a place near Grand Central and found this on Yelp. It's a little out of the way on 47th St. a few blocks up from GC which probably explains why it was very quiet on a Thurs. after work. Spacious and plenty of seating at the bar or nearby high tops, the perfect place to have a drink and a conversation. Service was very fast--there weren't many customers--but it was also very friendly. We ordered a couple of beers and chicken quesadilla and nachos. The quesadilla was well made, plenty of chicken and good amount of cheese. Nachos were pretty much as expected, not bad but not remarkable. Guess that's par for the course with nachos. Came here on st Patrick's day after the parade and really enjoyed the food! Service was quick and we got seats which was amazing for such a busy day. We got a variety of dishes from bangers and mash, fish and chips, to shepherds pie, and everyone liked their food and cleared their plates. I have 4 stars bias I didn't know you could fry cauliflower and make it taste decent. If it wasn't for that I would've probably give 3 baca the calamari didn't have no flavor, I was trying to figure out if it was made on premise or came out of a box. The dipping sauce didn't have enough to balance it out to have flavor. The Korean sauce that came with the cauliflower was different, I think I liked it but I only had a little taste of someone else's so I'm not sure. My drink was okay. Typical New York City pub, which we were looking for and found. Mac and Cheese just ordinary and kind of bland tho. I did like the creaminess, just needed flavor. I think Blackwells could be a new favorite spot in this East Midtown area. The menu and daily specials have kept me coming back two weeks in a row. Great lunch spot for the folks that work nearby. It also works great as the local happy hour drinks hot spot. The menu is surprisingly not just your typical bar/pub food. They have a unique menu ranging from Quinoa to Cheesesteaks. Even the French onion soup is pretty good. Last visit my friends and I all wanted different food and this menu satisfied all. We started with the Burrata and Fried Eggplant. Topped with parmesan reggiano cheese and tomato, as well as some arugula on the side. Very good. The eggplant was thinly breaded but crispy and complimented the tomato with burrata combination. The signature named Blackwell burger with bacon was a hit with my lunch buddy. Served on a brioche bun. Per my other foodie buddy, the fish and chips were great. It's fried cod fish served with malt vinegar on the side and Cole slaw. Generous portions and fries too. I had the tuna melt with fries and it was only ok. I'll definitely return to try the burgers and Shepard's pie. Today's visit, my fellow Yelp Elite, Mabelle, ordered the chicken and shrimp entree with a butter tequila sauce. She's ordered it before so she knew it would be good. Judging by her clean plate, I'll say she's a fan. The shrimps have the tail on so FYI, you will have to pull it off when you eat it. Great presentation. I ordered the beef Chopped steak topped with a mushroom marsala sauce. It was juicy and medium rare just as I requested. Very good. Both of our entrees came with steamed vegetables and our choice of potato. We both opted for the mashed. Buttery and smooth. Am a fan... Will totally return. read more

Very cozy pub, comfy seats, good food and welcoming vibe. The music is pretty loud so if you want to talk, ask for a seat in the back section. There is live music on Saturday nights starting at 8:30pm. There was a healthy crowd on a Wednesday night after work but it's a big place so it was not a problem getting seated immediately. I had a dinner salad and the chili (listed under "small plates"). The chili is made with ground beef, kidney beans and has melted cheddar on top and some chopped avocado, comes with tortilla chips. It wasn't huge but was more than enough for me. My husband had the chopped steak with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes and mixed veggies (he substituted a side salad). The chopped steak isn't on the newly revised menu anymore but they will make it for you if you ask. He loved it. He asked for it to be cooked medium and it was perfectly cooked. Everything was delicious. Service was prompt and friendly. If you want to eat your salad before your entree, specify that when ordering or it will all come out to the table at once. Although, I'm giving it a four stars, my last encounter was more like 3.5 stars but decided to round up. I've been there 2 times so far and both times the food did not disappoint. The first time I had shrimp penne with vodka sauce. The second time I had shrimp and chicken tequila. Both dishes were 5 stars. Super delicious and perfect portion. The reason my last encounter was 3.5 stars was because I came here with a few girlfriends and 2 of us ordered soda. She got a coke and I got a sprite. When I got the sprite, it looked like water from first glance but decided to taste it before knocking it. It tasted like syrup water with no carbonation. I asked my friend how her coke tasted and hers also had no carbonation. I don't often drink soda so when I do, I expect it to be good! I told the waitress that both of our sodas had zero carbonation and tasted like liquid syrup. She explained to us that they have been having gas line problems recently so probably all the soda will be like that and if we'd rather have something else. My problem is not that the soda wasn't carbonated and she was nice about it and offered an alternative. My problem is she knew there was gas line problems and didn't mention it to us until after we got our drinks and complained about it. We could have gotten a warning that the soda might not be good and/or just tell us straight out they didn't have a functioning machine in which case we probably would have skipped the soda from the beginning. The fish and chips looked divine. We saw other customers order it so 2 of my girlfriends decided to order it as well. They said it was a total disappointment and didn't taste good at all. They ended up not eating the whole thing. Wouldn't recommend ordering it. read more

Blackwells is a middle of the road Midtown pub that is fairly typical for the area. My office is nearby so this spot is pretty popular for a drink before people make their way to the subway or GCT to catch a train. I came in recently with a co-worker for a drink. It is a fairly large space and can accommodate fairly large groups. The staff is pretty friendly and they serve up drinks pretty quickly. They have the usual assortment of beers and booze. The prices are decent, too. It is definitely, a good, no frills spot for drinks. They also have a good lunch menu of the usual pub fare. read more

Came last night with friends to kill time before dinner & just some casual drinks, it was a amazing accidental choice! I ordered the Balckwell's Cosmo & my friends had the pear martini. The Blackwell's Cosmo tasted delicious, could compare it to a lemonade. The bartender was such a kind man, taking care of us & checking in often. It was a little quiet last night, but my friends & I did not mind that fact, we enjoyed it, with how noisy NY can be. The best thing about it was that we got a table immediately. The service was just "ok." I got salmon. It was a large piece but very dry. My partner got a hamburger and said it was pretty good. I gave him a small piece of my salmon after he had already ate his dinner. By the time we paid our bill and were heading out I was already feeling strange. By the time we got to our car, which was about a 5-10 minute walk, I was feeling nauseous. Luckily I had a sack in the car because 15 minutes later I lost everything in my stomach. My partner started losing his dinner about 30 minutes later. We were BOTH up all night throwing up and having diarrhea. He called the restaurant to tell them and they said "we have served the salmon to other customers and no one else has called." If this happens to you, please call to prevent it from happening to others. We hope that they at least threw away the contaminated salmon. read more

Blackwells wasn't terrible. The service was very good. The waitress was very attentive and even listed almost all of their tap beers for me (which was quite a few). In fact, all of the servers seemed good here. Which is why I can't give it one or two stars. The music was good :) just loud enough to enjoy but you could also talk over it. However, I was a little disappointed they didn't have any specials -- food nor drink. I miss the connollys that was in this location, with their daily beer specials. I was a little annoyed that I ordered the $14 steakhouse burger from blackwells, and it didn't even include cheese. Seriously? I guess I'm bad at reading the menu but I didn't realize it didn't have cheese. The food was okay overall, but nothing special. My boyfriend didn't really enjoy the chicken panini. I guess I'm just miffed I didn't get my cheeseburger :( Prices for drinks are high and food prices are high. Meh. 3 stars! read more

Love this place. Blackwells is right across the street from my office and is my second to go when my main bar is to packed. The staff are always very friendly and service is super quick. My co-workers and I came here for a quick drink after work. Even though the bar was super packed, the manager was able to accommodate and we were seated immediately. Upon sitting, we were greeted by a wonderful server. She was attentive, nice, and quick. Perfect recipe for a great experience. We decided to get food and drinks. Blackwells fills in that gap with a decent low key pub, where you can easily go to enjoy a pint along with your favorite sports. While there a ton of Irish pubs in this area Blackwells is my favorite. Their selection of whiskey is top notch. Everyone hustles here and that's why it is often packed. We often have after work gatherings here. The food (appetizers) that we have had here are excellent. Wings, nachos, chicken fingers have all been much better than other places. It is loud in here because people are having a good time. I find the pours to be generous and more so if you're a good tipper. Is cone here for lunch which I imagine is less boisterous. Pretty nice, dark wood bar in midtown. A quick walk from GCT. I stopped in for lunch, modest crowd. The bar was pretty empty, so I grabbed a chair there. Got a nice cold Angry Orchard fairly quickly from the bartender. It tasted great, went down a bit too easy in the heat. Midtown prices though, $8, a pint. Grabbed a Cordon Bleu sandwich. It's really tasty. Buffalo chicken, ham & Swiss with tomato on a ciabatta bun. It can be a bit messy, but absolutely delicious. The sandwich came with fries which were cooked golden and just about perfect. Think I may have found a new spot for my jaunts into midtown. Sure it's a bit pricey, but that's what you get for midtown. read more

I was visiting the UN and figure I should swing by my old fav pub...well the name change was a shock but everything else was almost the same...actually the bartender from Ireland was really funny guy and I had fun watching the game chatting with him.
