This is a great place. So I walked in and everyone was really welcoming. Dr. Mai came up and shook my hand like a champ (firm, not too long and no noodle arming). Man, I thought, if his handshake was any indication, then this check up was going to be awesome. So they collected some information quickly and efficiently. There was no BS stuff, like that high school English essay with 3 out of 5 pages being completely useless (come on, you guys know what I'm talkin' 'bout). After that, I was brought into a room for an initial check up. It went by so smoothly, I felt like I was in a dream (if only I can stay here forever). Then I was led into a larger office. After answering a few questions, Dr. Mai came in and did the exam. Now, in all seriousness, he was nice, patient and explained everything prior to doing each part of the exam which was nice because it put me at ease. After the checkup completed, he further explained what was going on with my eyes and answered all my questions. Then I got to choose a new pair of glasses! They really do have a nice selection here. So I picked the pair of glasses that I liked and was thinking "Yesss, can't wait to get these babies home and put them on then do math equations all day." Unfortunately they said my glasses will arrive in a week since they need to put the prescriptions on. I was like "Darn, there goes my plans for the next weekend or so." I'm sorry but I just can't do math problems without my glasses. All in all this was a good visit. The office was excellent. The people were fantastic. Dr. Mai himself, well let's just say if optometry were basketball then Dr. Mai would be Michael Jordan. Never doubt the heart of champion!!! read more

Best optometry experience I've had, by far. Plenty of parking right in front. The office is brand new, state of the art, and beautifully designed. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. I saw Dr. Mai for a routine eye exam. He was professional, thorough, and took the time to explain everything to me; he definitely knows eyes! My previous optometrists were always in a rush and I felt like they were just going through the motions. In contrast, Dr. Mai seems to genuinely care about his work and his patients. I'm moving abroad for a year and tried to order a years' worth of contacts online before I left. My optometrist of several years declined the request and said I needed my yearly check-up before he would approve more lenses to be ordered. I tried online booking to no avail and was essentially told "tough luck" when I spoke to the receptionist about my 2-week turn around in needing the lenses. Disappointed and shocked, I turned to Yelp to find a new optometrist that would be able to examine me and get me my contacts in the 2 weeks I had before leaving the US. Insight was the first place I called and boy am I glad! I explained my situation and the man on the phone (didn't get his name!) was really helpful, he even let me fill in all my forms online so that I could go straight to my exam when I arrived. Mimi at the front dest and Dr. Mai were incredibly kind, helpful and prompt with all the service I received and I couldn't be happier that my negative experience with my former optometrist led me here! They got me examined, had me try out new contacts that are better and more affordable than my old ones, did a follow-up and got me my lenses (with a $60 rebate!) all within a week, with time to spare before I fly out. Mimi was always very complimentary and sincere, she's as good as it gets! Dr. Mai really went the extra mile to make sure I knew all my options and even hooked it up with some free samples. I scheduled an appointment at Insight last month for a routine eye exam and to order some new contacts. The first thing I noticed upon walking into the office was how bright, friendly, and comfortable it felt. As someone who doesn't really enjoy visits to the doctor, dentist, etc., this was a refreshing change compared to the typical medical office. I started my appointment with Jaime to check the health of my eyes and take some tests. One thing that I really liked about Insight is that they've replaced the glaucoma "air puff" test with a much more patient friendly eye pressure test. Although the air puff test is far from the worst thing in the world, it's certainly nice not to have to jump out of my shoes for an eye exam. Next, I met with Dr. Lam for my contact lens exam and prescription. Even though I only spent 15-20 minutes with her, I think the biggest thing that stood out to me about Dr. Lam is how much she genuinely cares for me as a patient. After talking with her about my contacts, she walked me through some health concerns that she had with with the way that I wear them and that I was risking infections or damage to my eyes. In all of my previous eye exams (with many different optometrists), no doctor had ever mentioned this. If you're like me, your eyes are absolutely priceless. Thus, I was really thankful to learn about the risks and that I needed to be paying closer attention to the health of my eyes. From there, Dr. Lam walked me through several options for a healthier approach to my vision and explained the pros and cons of each. I really appreciated the honest, straightforward approach and have already taken action to reduce the risk of wearing my contact lenses. Dr. Lam and Jaime also took the time to adjust my glasses to make them more comfortable and help them to better stay in place when I wear them. Anyway, if you're in need of an optometrist, I would absolutely recommend making an appointment with Insight. Friendly staff, professional attention, and honest advice. This place is awesome! Dr. Lam really took the time in checking out my eyes. Although it is only a checkup, being a new patient, she was very thorough in understanding my vision history and other past ailments. I like that the paperwork are all completed in advance of the appointment electronically for those comfortable with electronic documentations. From the friendly staff to the creative room layout, this optometry office is catered to the patients. For those with kids, there is even a play room and a desk for doing homework. The therapy area is also very welcoming to those needing some vision therapy. Highly recommend. The only down side is that the suite is a little difficult to spot if unfamiliar. This place is modern, open, and extremely awesome! Close to the OC Airport/Newport Beach, so it's great if you're in south Orange County. When you walk in, there's a nice, bright, open lobby with separate rooms around. The staff is really friendly, and I was seen immediately. Paperwork was pretty easy to fill out. When I did my initial eye tests, I couldn't believe it, but they didn't do the puff in your eyeball thing! Definitely a plus for me! They have an alternate way to measure. I saw Dr. Thanh Mai. He was friendly, professional, and dresses pretty darn spiffy, I must say. :) He is very easy to speak to and listened to all my concerns. He asked good questions about the kind of glasses I might need and want (I have a computer job) and took into account my overall health. He also gave me great tips since I had had vertigo problems in the past. I had my pupils dilated during this visit, and before the eyedrops kicked in, I was able to find some great modern glasses! What I really like about this place is they don't really have Luxotica frames, and the companies they have here are not run of the mill. They have an excellent selection of glasses: Dutz and Lafont are two examples. I wound up buying a hip, burgundy/orange Lafont cat-eye frame. Can't wait to get them. The staff and even Dr. Mai helped me pick out frames. Check out their website. I don't say this about many places but their website is USABLE and easy to use. And it looks fantastic! I've also met Dr. Valerie Lam and I can say she is equally friendly and nice. Dr Lam is amazing. She is kind, and very caring for her patients. When talking with her she mentioned that she specializes in vision therapy which can help children who struggle with focusing and using their eye muscles correctly. As a pre-optometry student, I was scouring the internet to find an exceptional optometry practice to shadow at (observe the exam procedures as well as chat with the ODs what their experience in the optometry field is like). Insight Vision Center Optometry caught my eye - pun intended - without a doubt. Not only is the clinic aesthetically pleasing, but the website, social media content, and reviews were beyond what I imagined possible for a optometry clinic. Insight does things differently, in a field that is ever growing and evolving. Dr. Valerie Lam and Dr. Thanh Mai are pioneers in their field because they encompass everything I look for in an optometrist as well as mentors. A few great things include: Dr. Lam and Dr. Mai focus on patient care with the upmost quality care while being affordable, they actually use an unrushed approach for everyone (patients, staff, shadowing students, and themselves), and they are the most well-rounded optometrists in the area. Each individual (patients and staff alike) is unique to Dr. Lam and Dr. Mai and their staff - and thus their care will be unique to them. Also, Dr. Mai and Dr. Lam graduated from SCCO, the optometry school that is the epitome of quality care and quality education. They have evolved into leaders that honestly can improve everyone's outlook on eye care. The staff is beyond amazing, too - honestly, I am not sure how exactly to describe everyone accurately so you all know JUST how wonderful they truly are. Grace, the vision therapist, is the most humble yet most hard working vision therapist I've ever met - she described in detail her background and how passionate she is about VT. Kristy is also incredibly humble and hard working - she talked to me about the optical section and we bonded over the fact that we were both going to apply to optometry school. Jordan, the "aesthetics" optician - was so hospitable and knowledgeable about the layout of the optical lab - he has a background in fashion design which works well because well-rounded opticians must have a good sense of fashion. Jaime, who is now moved onto Ohio's optometry school, is so passionate about optometry/opticionary and it is refreshing to meet someone who is incredibly confident and hardworking at the same time. Overall - Insight Vision Center is the optometry clinic that I would recommend to everyone - especially young children who may experience trouble with vision issues such as depth perception or strabismus. Contact lens wearers should come here too. PS: This practice cares about the DETAILS as much as the BIG PICTURE. Enter the clinic and you'll be blown away by everything. Very pleasant and wonderful experience. Staff: 5/5 When I walked in, I was greeted by the all the members, even by Dr. Mai. I had a chance to interact with everyone of them and they all had big smiles on their faces. They were all kind and helpful by informing what and why they were doing it. Throughout the process, they also asked if I was feeling fine during some testing and made sure I was comfortable. Experience: 5/5 The process was very fast and easy, thanks to the staff for being so informative. Dr. Mai checked my eyesight and informed me that my current glasses are out of date. In fact, the prescription I had was too strong and the lens that I had were low quality. I took up his offer of better lens that don't glare and at a reasonable price. Afterwards, there were multiple assessments of perspective depth, color blindness, etc. Surprisingly, I never had any types of these tests before at my previous optometrists, but I'm glad this place utilize that type of information. Ambiance: 5/5 My initial thoughts when I walked in was that it was one of the best looking stores I've visited. The store is very clean, simple and had a good balance to it. The store had a relaxing environment and a lot of room to walk around. The music also contributed to how peaceful it was with acoustic covers of famous songs that everyone can enjoy. Covering the white walls were plenty of frames to choose from and displayed everywhere for everyone to look at. This place has it all; friendliness, affordability , and expertise. Dr. Lam fitted me with ortho k lenses and I love them! I have an astigmatism and my prescription was climbing which I was concerned about before starting ortho k, but now I have 20/20 and don't have to wear any lenses during the day which is awesome. Another plus is that I can see in the evening hours and don't have that fuzzy vision after taking off glasses. Would definitely recommend both ortho k and insight. Istar & Jaime were extremely helpful in showing me the various types of glasses & lenses. They had a great selection of eye and sunglasses and answered all of my questions. They looked up my vision insurance coverage and Jaime really knows his stuff & how to get full value on the insurance end. I booked an appointment for the following week. I absolutely love insight vision! The staff are so kind and amazing. Also, the place is very modern and beautiful inside. Dr. Lam is one of my favorite eye doctors that I have had. She does not rush when checking the lenses for what is the most clear. I love that there is WiFi for the guest too. Another thing that I love about my check up is when we test my eye pressure they have two other options other then the machine. I tend to not be able to sit still when doing the eye puff test. Dang it, my review didn't save. But that doesn't change my feelings about Insight Vision Center Optometry! Walking in, the place is bright, which is great, and the colors and displays are trendy. I'm welcomed by Jaime, who is very easy to talk to, and go throughs my pre-tests. Then Dr. Mai sweeps me off my feet and into the chair where we do the usual '1-or-2's. He was able to teach me a little something about what my eyes need and then supplies it! I got to pick some new frames (girlfriend-approved) at the end of the visit and I will definitely be visiting again! 5-star review for a 5-star place! The two doctors are very nice and have your best interest in mind. Plus they carry frames from more interesting companies other than the "evil" monopolistic Luxottica brands. I recommend coming here because the doctors both wear contacts/glasses and know the intricacies of selecting a frame based on style, your face, and your prescription level. The front desk is under training so they're a little newer, but everyone seems to genuinely love working there which helps the atmosphere greatly.
