Do not go here. My mom and I brought in a shoe asking if the rhinestones could be removed. The man working there told us that they absolutely could be, no problem, then asked why we would want to remove them from a fairly expensive shoe. My mom told him that she likes the shoe, just not the rhinestones along the strap. The man snipped the string holding one side of a rhinestone on and showed us that if he cut them off, the strap would have holes/divots in it. Of course, we said never mind then, at which time he said it will be $75 to sew the one half of the stone back on. He said if we "used any critical thinking" we would have known that's what would have happened. I responded that we do not fix shoes for a profession, so there's no reason we should know that. He replied "you're women, you should know about shoes." Despite this, we agreed to pay and handed him cash for our $40 deposit. We stood there and waited for him to make change for quite some time while he continued to lecture us on our "critical thinking" skills and womanhood that should have provided us with all the shoe knowledge we needed. He kindly offered an analogy of what this situation would look like in a kitchen setting, just incase our little women brains and innate fashion instincts weren't yet grasping his point of view. I finally asked that he just make the change so we could get on with our day which resulted in an explosion of mostly repeating his same points (critical thinking and women with shoes) then refusing service. This man is HORRIBLE, sexist, and rude and tried to rip us off before spending the rest of the exchange yelling at us. Save yourself the trip. read more

Outstanding! I had two pairs of motorcycle boots in need of repairs. The heels were worn to a bevel which made walking in them unsteady. I took to yelp to look for a local source for shoe repair. I found that "Instant Shoe Repair" of Danvers had very positive reviews. Now I see why. The shop is a classic one man operation. The proprietor, Alex, is genuine craftsman who knows his stuff. Originally I thought this would be a "while you wait" fix ....slap on a new heel and off I'll go. ( The shop does advertise while you wait repairs. ) Alex looked over my boots. He pointed out the soles were also worn and bottom stitching were fraying. Also when he rested to boot on a flat surface, the center of gravity was shifted to the back. He'd be happy to do the quick solution but then suggested other options. He could replace the entire sole and heel with a much sturdier material that would last longer and create better stability for the boot. I really liked the look of the new sole he showed me ( a kickass Harley-esque look with deep tread vs. the standard original ) he also showed me a few examples of shoes that also had the same work done. ( The clincher was when he showed me some equestrian boots he had repaired) I left both pairs and returned in a week. To say I am pleased with the results is an understatement. The boots look and FEEL fantastic. His advice about better stability/ improved center of gravity was spot on. Alex is genuine craftsman. He knows his trade, understands quality workmanship and satisfying a customer's needs (and if the customer needs to be educated regarding various options he does so in a polite genuine manner.) Five enthusiastic stars. Last aside, during our initial conversation Alex said he can also repair saddlebags. When I came to pick up my boots, I took a small bag I used for rain gear. The bag was a freebie when I ordered some luggage, so I was not surprised when the zipper failed. I showed it to Alex. Well the bag was not well made and to do a really good job would involve replacing the entire lining...hardly worth it for a "throw in" bag. But then I got his classic "Let me see what I can do my friend....." He stepped into the back room, made a few adjustments and it's functional. Nice touch, Alex. His craftsmanship is excellent and prices reasonable. He's honest as well - I recently wanted to have a pair of shoes resoled, and he told me I didn't need to do the entire sole - just heel and tip. I requested that they re-sole and condition the leather on a nice pair of Red Wings boots. They have a good selection of Vibram soles to choose from for the application. The work was completed on time, and with all the character and suppleness that comes from a couple years of daily use in the machine shop, these boots are now in their prime, and look great. This is a true small business gem! Although the name of the shop is "Instant Shoe Repair," these guys will repair luggage and duffel bags (including zippers) on the spot while you wait for a reasonable price and with a smile! It's shocking that this man stays in business. I could tell that he was pushy and rude even when I drop my boots off, and against my better judgment I agreed to the $45 fee and asked him to fix them because he told me that he would be able to make my shoes wider and that they would feel 85% better. When I picked them up today, I tried them on and noticed that they felt exactly the same. When I mentioned this to him he got extremely defensive and combative. This shop is great! I bring all of my shoe repairs here and have for years. The owner is always helpful - he really knows his stuff! The biggest plus is that my shoes are always repaired on the spot (my repairs were minor), so I didn't even wait 5 minutes! The only downside is that he only accepts cash (but the prices are very reasonable, so it's never been a big deal.) Also, keep your eyes open when looking for the shop. Can't say enough great things about Alex and the quality of his work. I needed the shaft area of my buttery-soft tall leather boots stretched. Instead of stretching the entire area Alex pinpointed the exact point of difficulty and stretched only there leaving the rest of the shaft fitting beautifully. I couldn't be happier. This guy scammed me out of $50 for a job he knew he could not complete. I was told it would it would cost $50 to stretch my boots and I agreed. I stepped out of the store ,did a price comparison (price comparison: $10 at cobbler in beverly) and not FIVE minutes later i returned to the store to say I changed my mind and did not want his service. In an irritated and aggressive manor, he completely lied and said he started working on the boots and that the place you called does "monkey job". I felt coerced to leave my boots at this point with his hostile demeanor. Anyway, he worked on the boots and failed. He could not stretch them after two attempts and he explained it's due to the fabric lining inside. The jerk knew there was a fabric lining inside from the moment he laid eyes on them. He then had the audacity to ask for an additional $150 for a new zipper.!!!! I felt so taken advantage of. Anyways, he got my $50 for nothing and I ended up with a "monkey job".
