Good luck if you're trying to cancel your policy. They will screen your calls, "take a message," and hope you don't call back. It took me weeks to cancel my policy when I switched to USAA after years of them raising my car insurance (no accidents and my car was only depreciating in value). After persisting on a daily basis, I finally cancelled my policy. They short-changed me on my refund and nobody could explain why. I encourage anyone looking for insurance to avoid this place. Incredibly shady. USSA immediately gave me (much) cheaper car insurance and their customer service is transparent and accessible. read more

The short version: Daniel Groff has consistently, aggressively upsold me on insurance, refusing to lower any of my coverage when I asked him to and pressuring me into expensive policies. His company has bungled my requests for changes for the last several months and has caused me to be repeatedly charged for insurance I had canceled. Long version: This is the merry-go-round my car insurance has been on for the last several months: I called Daniel in September to tell them I'd changed my address and to try and lower my coverage (which I had through Mercury). Daniel has historically been big (BIG) on upselling, and as a result my policy has always been kind of crazy extensive and my rates are kind of ridiculous, especially when my 2001 car's value was roughly that of a six-pack of Diet Coke. I hadn't stood up to it much, but I planned to that day. When I called Daniel again absolutely refused to take the coverage down, swearing that I would experience untold financial ruin should anything happen, just as he always has. He finally offered me a "special deal" that took my monthly rates down about $30 for the same coverage. Okay, but big whoop. I privately resolved that, when I bought my next car (which would be soon), I'd shop around for new insurance. A while later, they sent me new insurance cards reflecting the new arrangement. They sent it to the old address, and it reached me because it was forwarded. They apparently never entered my address change into their system. Over a weekend, I received a letter saying they'd canceled my insurance "per my request." My non-existent request. I thought maybe they were just canceling the old version of the policy, but the account number they referenced was the same as the one they'd just sent me new cards for. I knew they weren't open but I tried to call and leave a concerned voicemail message. Daniel's mailbox was full; the operator's extension promised a general voicemail box but actually ran in a useless loop that never reached one. Next day I checked my bank statement and discovered they'd charged me twice for my insurance that month, once at the new rate and once at the old, higher rate. I finally got ahold of Daniel and told him what was going on. I wasn't yelling or in any way acting out, but I was intent on getting an answer. He spoke very condescendingly to me, questioning if I understood what was going on and, IIRC, using terms like "Honey" and such. (I'm a girl, see, so I don't understand stuff that penis owners do.) I told him I had checked the numbers on what had been given to me recently and I most certainly did understand that I was being charged for two policies. He told me that it was in fact notification that they were canceling the old policy--two months late--and that he'd get it sorted. Reasonably quickly, I did get a letter stating that my previous account was discontinued and my money was refunded for two months' worth of double charges. So I buy the next car. I insure it with a different carrier. I keep both policies intact while I sell the old car. The day I do, I call Daniel and tell him I no longer need an account with them and why. He seems very taken aback and tries to scare me into keeping their business--saying I don't want to lose my "loyalty" discount and such--but I just tell him no, I'm done. I figure that's that. Then I get a letter saying my supposedly-canceled Mercury policy would be doing its automatic debit thing as usual. I meant to call to keep it from happening, but it was the holidays and I got caught up. Besides, maybe the letter got sent before the cancellation happened. On the appointed date, the automatic debit, in fact, debits. I call the Mercury offices on January 9th (Yeah, I'm slow, I know. Again, holidays). They say they never received any request at all to cancel my policy. Now I have to jump through hoops to get my cancellation and refund. I call Daniel's offices, asking to speak directly to him. He has mysteriously "stepped out," so I talk to Kimi. She tells me that when I canceled my policy, I needed to send them something in writing to that effect or it wouldn't be canceled. That may be common knowledge to some, but it wasn't to me, and Daniel made no mention of it. As requested, I email her proof of my new coverage (Why? It has nothing to do with the car I insured through them), and a letter stating exactly what I want. I can update this entry or leave a new review when the whole thing is resolved--which I can only hope it will be--but I just wanted to make it clear why I'm not doing business with this organization anymore. I don't know where the ball was dropped, but it most certainly was and often. The "customer service" has been sloppy, high-pressure, and negligent. So I was referred to Yenny from my coworker and I was just interested in shopping around and looking to see if my current Insurance was the best option or if I could find cheaper elsewhere. Especially with the current pandemic going on it's imperative I know I'm spending as little as possible due to not working. I would give zero stars if I could. Agent Dawn told me my children would be excluded drivers on my account and didn't tell me they needed any forms filled out. 4 months later she charged me 500 dollars to cover them back to the date i told her I was not covering them due to the price. When I called to complain she became hostile and rude. I have been with mercury for 14 years and have never been treated so poorly. Stay away from this agency. They will rob you blind and make you feel like dirt. read more

Insurance brokers west is great! I have been using them for about 9-10 years. Not only do they do my car insurance but they take care of my home policy as well. My rates are low and that family personal touch is great. They are always really quick to answer my questions and are very helpful.
