I should have taken advice to take my car first to an auto parts stores like AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, who will scan your "Check Engine" light for free and print out the diagnostic fault code (e.g., P0300). Bring that code to the dealership so you aren't paying $200 just for them to plug in an OBD-II scanner. For this reason, I will not bring my car back to the shop again.

Two of the "big name" repair shops in Delaware happily charged me for their diagnostics... and somehow managed to fix absolutely nothing. This guy (sorry I forgot his name) took my car for a 5-minute drive, came back, knew exactly what was wrong, ordered the part, and had it fixed within a couple of hours (most of that time was just waiting for the part to arrive). Problem solved. No fancy waiting room. No free coffee. No snacks. Just something much rarer these days --- a mechanic who actually knows what he's doing, charges a (very) fair price, and treats people with honesty and respect. I brought it into Royal Tech, and Yen did some research on the issue and was able to replace my transmission solenoids and the ribbon belt instead of replacing the entire transmission. The VW dealership had told me I'd need a new transmission ($2000 repair on a $1300 car? Uh, no thank you.) Yen's wife was able to pick me up from my house when my car was ready. I ended up paying *exactly* what I was quoted - $843. A+ repair work, friendly service, and honest people all at a fair and reasonable price. I will come back to Royal Tech every time I need a repair.
