Al, the owner of R&M Automotive, took advantage of my fiancée by convincing her she needed a new radiator when she did not. She actually had a valve issue that was clearly identified on the diagnostic code he ran and was fully covered by Subaru. Despite this, Al told her the car was unsafe to drive without replacing the radiator and pushed the repair. After the radiator was replaced, the car still did not function properly. The issue was ultimately fixed at Subaru when the valve was replaced. When confronted, Al acknowledged that she probably should have gone to Subaru first, yet he offered no compensation or accountability for charging her for an unnecessary radiator and labor. This wasn't an honest mistake; it was poor judgment at best and predatory behavior at worst. I'm posting this so others can avoid the same situation. There are plenty of mechanics in the area (e.g. Everest Automotive) choose one with integrity who won't scare customers into unnecessary repairs. read more

I am writing this to warn every resident in Wilmington: do not trust this shop with your vehicle or your safety. My experience here has been a nightmare of deceptive practices and gross mechanical negligence. The Deception: I paid for a valve cover gasket repair on April 9th. On April 15th, I had to return because the repair failed immediately. It was admitted to me by the staff that they found the valve cover was actually cracked during the first visit, but instead of informing me or replacing the part, they were instructed by management to 'patch it' with sealant. This is an unacceptable way to treat a paying customer. The Negligence: After supposedly fixing their mistake on the second visit, they returned the car to me in an even more dangerous state. The car was shaking and misfiring. The manager initially dismissed my concerns, attempting to blame my 'fuel quality' and telling me to 'up the octane.' Only after I insisted they re-examine the car did they admit they had FAILED TO INSTALL THE PCV VALVE before handing me back the keys. Current Condition: My 2017 Honda Accord is now making loud, concerning engine noises that were not present before I brought it to this shop. Their failure led to oil-saturated spark plugs and ignition coils, which they refused to address properly. read more

Make an appointment to be sure you've got time on the schedule. For routine maintenance, I just wait in the lobby, for larger repairs, I get a ride home and come back when they've completed the work I've always been happy with the quality of work and time to complete. They also do a great job cleaning up when the work's complete. One last point, they're good at explaining which maintenance must be done vs what should be done if you need to break the work into several chunks. read more

Five stars for fantastic, speedy service in a time of need! We were driving on I-95 to a long-awaited vacation when my car just stopped being able to accelerate, which is sort of important, and we pulled over at the first rest stop in Delaware (from Maryland), saw the great reviews here on Yelp, and puttered over very slowly. Al was fantastic and super friendly. He managed to squeeze us in immediately, diagnosed the problem and fixed it quickly and cheaply while also telling me about a manufacturer issue with the car engine that's part of a huge class action settlement that I can get fixed on their dime. We were back on the road (with the ability to accelerate!) in less than an hour. Can't say enough great things about this place. Thanks to Al and his staff and to Yelpers for cluing us in! read more

He will always call you once the problem is diagnosed in order to determine the direction you want to proceed before repairs are attempted unless it is something really easy to fix. He does his best to have repairs done in a timely manner and will let you know if there is an issue with obtaining parts. His shop has a very high quality of work. My daughter is a student at UD. Her car was hit from behind and as result of that accident began to omit a noise. We got a estimate from another repair shop that was recommend to us, but decided to get a second estimate afterwards. We sent our daughter to R&M after reading of some very positive reviews on them in a UD parents Facebook group. Al at R&M took care of her and fixed her problem in under an hour and only charged her $25, much lower then that other repair shop. Don't be fooled by the lifetime warranty on brakes, it'll cost you more in the end. Take your car somewhere else! I repeat take your car somewhere else! I took my 2004 Acura TL for the lifetime breaks and a year later I need calibers all around. Took my 2014 Nissan Altima for brakes and a year later same thing I need calibers. The constant here is the shop/mechanic. Oh and although I paid for the lifetime brakes and roters he tried to charge me for both until I disputed the cost. This place is a rip off and will cause you more trouble, time, and money. Stay clear away! read more

Came here a few years ago with a coolant leak. Every morning I would fill up the coolant ball and by the time I got to work (about 15 minutes away) it was empty and the low coolant light would come back on. Couldn't locate the coolant leak myself so i took it here. They filled it up and told me there was no leak. Said they had let it run through the car and nothing leaked. Charged me only for a bottle of coolant. I drove it home that day and before I got home- coolant light came on and the thing was dry. Took the car back and told them that the car was in fact leaking. They agreed to look at it again. I also needed rear brakes at the time, and I couldn't be without a car for much longer, so I asked them to replace the rear pads, rotors, and calipers while it was there. They did so, called me a few days later to pick up the car. Said they filled the car up with coolant again and still no leak. So I drove home and decided I would have to find it myself or find a different shop. On the way home I noticed- my brakes were extraordinary spongey and my parking brake was too loose even function. Took it back and told them they needed to fix it immediately. I paid more than what I considered a fair price to do the work I had asked, and hey couldn't even bleed a set of brakes properly. They bled them, and tightened the parking brake, but it was still worse than before. Drove home, coolant all ran out again. I took it to a shop across the road that has since been moved to find the coolant leak, since I had no such luck finding it without a lift. Within 30 minutes they found the leak. They also fixed my brakes fully for free. I have a diesel, and they never let the car get up to temperature and as such were unable to locate a coolant leak off the thermostat. Overall probably the worst car repair experience I've had. They tried to tell me there was no issue when they clearly was one. We're rude when I insisted that the coolant was clearly leaking. Wasted my time and money getting another service from them. Find another shop. I recommend The Lunchbox Garage for repairs I can't do myself. read more

Changing my review completely. They offer a cheap Groupon, but in the end they've only asked for more than $1000 worth of work to do on my car every time... They were supposed to rotate my tires but it appears they did not do it or do it correctly. Have suggested services that were not necessary. R&M came to the rescue!! My Sienna Minivan broke down in a parking lot in the middle of the day. I had AAA tow the car to R&M to fix the starter, and they had my car fixed and the oil changed within 2 hours! My car was back in service by the end of the day. Al and the team were wonderful! They were so helpful in explaining all of the issues with my vehicle (even showing me in the shop all the things that were wrong on the car itself). They printed out all that I needed, understanding financial struggles and discussed the order in which things should be tackled, so that I can safely drive the car and get things done piecemeal as I have the money to do so. They were very respectful and understanding of my financial situation and gave me a great deal to fix what I could at the time being. One of the main & biggest factors in choosing a repair shop is having trust. I tried them out first with just a oil change & tire rotation we got from a Groupon. Turns out they did not do the rotation, even though this was included. When I figured this out and then inquired why, they said it didn't need it (although we know the miles driven & last time rotated...). Also, while waiting as they did only the oil change...an employee came out to the service manager and passed him a note like it was grade school because he clearly did not want me to hear what he was trying to communicate. All these factors break basic foundations of not only trust but professionalism, for these reasons, I'd be stupid to go back. Groupon & Living Social don't fairly give their customers access to ALL reviews by the customers, so I'm putting this here. Consumer, proceed with caution. I hope this helps; good luck! While the work I requested to be completed was, the price I was quoted over the phone, not once but on two separate occasions, was not the price I paid upon completion of repair. Furthermore, RM's website has coupons, but don't expect to be able to actually get a discount. Lastly, the bottom of your receipt includes a $15.00 shop fee. I inquired what this is for, their answer, use of lifts, solvents, and rags. Really, am I charged extra for napkins when I go to a restaurant? This should be part of their built in costs.
