I would highly recommend Intelligent labor and moving to anyone. They helped us move from our two-bedroom apartment in Arlington to our newly purchased house in Chelmsford on probably the coldest day in January this year. Their website makes it super easy to submit for an estimate. They are prompt with their communication and provided all the details we needed before we booked them. We were originally interested in their service because they offer a green move so they don't use plastic, but instead, use fabric furniture covers as well as the option for their electric moving truck. I think it cost a little extra, but definitely worth it for the lower impact on the environment and the total was still around the same price as other quotes we got from other moving companies. The movers were kind, respectful, and very considerate of our stuff. They all wore masks and gloves throughout the move and happily helped us finish packing the last few items. They disassembled and reassembled any items that were too big to fit through the doors and came prepared with tools and additional packing materials that might be needed. My husband, baby and I were moving a really short distance (less than 10 minutes away from our current place) but knew that we would not be able to lug all our boxes and furniture up two flights of stairs. Intelligent labor sent 2 great guys who moved everything (from start to end) in 4 hours. That's 60 boxes, a bed, helluva lot of baby stuff and some tables etc. They offered us an insurance deal for $50 and my husband took it. At first, I was skeptical about the insurance, but when it turned out that our trash can got a little dinged, they replaced the entire thing with no questions asked. Intelligent Labor moved us from a 3 story walk-up in Boston to Lexington. We really were happy with the move. They sent three people (when we moved in the other moving company sent two men and it wasn't enough). They stayed calm even though you have to move your truck every so often (street parking). The last time we had movers they ended up getting really angry and yelling at the garbage truck guy. Well this time it was much less stressful since Zeke and his crew are very calm and level-headed. They actually listened to everything I had to tell them ahead of time about when to come etc. (best time for getting a spot on the side of the road). This is rare usually movers show up when they show up. They all were really nice and fast, plus they packed the truck REALLY well and it was tight with all our stuff. You could tell they really thought about and discussed the best way to pack it up. Their rates were the best. I did get three quotes beforehand. I did one national moving company along with another local Boston moving company and Intelligent Labor was the best rate. In fact, the other local moving company quote was ridiculously high. And best of all, nothing was damaged in the move, not even our flatscreen TV. So I would highly recommend them! In fact we're moving again this spring and plan on using them again. read more

I own a two-family house in Boston and up until a month ago my mother lived on the second floor. Due to medical issues we were forced to "flip" apartments with only ten day's notice. I found Intelligent Labor and Moving on Yelp and contacted them. From the moment someone answered the phone (I know this seems like a small thing but most other companies either didn't answer or you got a machine/service) it was the easiest decision to hire ILM for my move. They took my inventory of two units over the phone; sent me a quote within three hours; confirmed my move with only 5 day's notice; contacted me two days before with a check in on my inventory; contacted me the morning of the move upon arrival; and worked tirelessly without stop for 6.75 hours. I was not sure how to begin tackling the move but they figured it out and made it happen for LESS than their initial proposal. But, based on how well they worked out any issues even the highest range of the proposal would have been acceptable to me. I hope not to move again for quite some time but if I do ILM will be my first call. read more

Reasonable prices, good communication. Skilled in wrapping items, zero of our housewares were broken in their moves, space used efficiently. They should go national. If moving makes you want to check yourself in for psychiatric help, these guys are as close as you can get to Valium. I couldn't wait to get internet at my new house to logon to write a review about these guys -- they were so great. We had a tricky move off a busy road where you had to hire a police detail, but they got our stuff out of a 3000sq ft house in less than 4 hours. They are about as organized as you can ask for, and the boxes are labeled perfectly. 95% of my boxes ended up in the correct rooms, and finding everything was a breeze. We had a full pack and move, and it was worth every cent. Also, I am glad to hear that they are taking bed bug precautions -- they told me that they spray their trucks -- this would seem to be a huge and growing concern with back to back moves, especially in the summer when there is such a high volume. These guys ARE intelligent labor -- everything is meticulously packed like tetris in your boxes and/or "stretch-wrapped" together (like saran wrap), but it is not a surprise -- they move priceless art for museums this way and treat your stuff with the same care. You might find yourself having a conversation with one or more of them about an obscure piece of literature, but again, these are just not your average movers in any way. I hired Intelligent Moving and Labor when I had a month to find an apartment and move due to the house I lived in selling. I found these guys on yelp and got price quotes from them and two others. They had the best quote and most helpful service as well as the best rating... So I hired them, this is the first time I have ever had movers and was not disapointed, I will not ever go back! They where very nice and got started right away when they arrived as promised I was moving from a first floor to a fourth floor walk up. They where so efficient and when my box spring wouldnt fit up trhe stair case they gave me options of how they could make it work and put it over a balcony and through another apt to get it in. Moved from a 2-bedroom condo to a single family house. These guys were punctual, efficient and careful. We hired one-man for packing the day before the move and a 3-man crew for the day of the move. Their estimate was very good---well within the range they quote. They worked the entire time they were on the job---no extended calls and only a 15 minute lunch break. Definitely would hire again. These guys helped me move from Brighton to my new house in Newton. They were fast, efficient and really nice. It was easily the least stressful move ever. Nothing was damaged, they packed everything securely and it was all around a pleasant experience. If I move again (hopefully not anytime soon), I'd definitely call these guys. Since they estimate the time and cost based on the moving party's inventory of stuff, I suggest you call them while you're home. I forgot about a lot of things, like a full-sized keyboard. The people scheduled before me apparently were completely off with their inventory list causing the guys to show up about 2.5 hours late. They were considerate and apologized, but for the sake of afternoon moves, please call while you're walking through your house. Moving in the dark sucks. read more

My boyfriend and I just used them (Mitt, Paul, Joe and Rob) to move us each into a new shared home and I can't say enough about how wonderful these guys were. I can't say enough positive things about this moving company! The circumstances of our move were not a set-up fro success: --Moving on September 1st --From a very narrow street with no parking --On which there were multiple other moving trucks that day --To an apartment where the previous tenants had NOT YET MOVED OUT (we had a single empty room in which to put our entire 2-bedroom apartment worth of furniture) --Oh, and did I mention that we had 37 boxes of books? I was a complete stress-mess about the move, but from the moment the team from Intelligent Labor and Moving arrived, there was no longer anything for me to stress out about. (Trust me--I tried!) They took care of everything! They booked a parking permit for our narrow little street. When I told them that my grandfather built our coffee table, they treated it like it was made of spun glass and were as careful with it as I could have asked. They were funny and had great attitudes the whole time. And on the other end, they didn't even blink upon finding out the situation and managed to stack all of our stuff in the one room. They stacked it to the ceiling, working around a ceiling fan, and making sure that the stacks were stable, with heavy stuff on the bottom and fragile stuff protected and safe. But they didn't just stack it safely--which would have been enough, honestly!--they organized it! They put the stacks in rows so that their were aisles between and you could get to nearly everything. They even organized it by room, so that it was easy to distribute the boxes later on. Absolutely amazing. They took a stressful move and made it so easy. And the whole thing took only 5 hours. They never got stressed or annoyed at how much crap there was to deal with and were happy to help us move stuff around after the move. So when I added up the elements of moving with no moving permits (left it a little too late to order them) 3 x sofas + 1 x bed + TV + 1 x coffee table + 1 x air conditioner in one morning . . well, it didn't seem like anything good. After our previous move with another company where the guys damaged every piece of furniture we had, I was worried about hiring movers again. We hired Intelligent this past weekend for our move to Cambridge. We were consolidating two apartments into one, so they made 3 stops. My only complaint is that they were so fast, efficient and wonderful that we arrived early to our move in time schedule in our new place and we didn't plan on having so much extra unpacking time once settled. Paul, Matt and Rob were our movers, and I have never seen a crew work so efficiently and professionally. They give a lot of good moving tips on their website, if you follow them they make the move even faster. I can't recommend these guys enough, and it looks as though on Yelp I am not the only one. I have moved 6 times in seven years, so I have a bit of experience with moving companies. I needed a couple of workers to help unload my truck from a cross country move and called Intelligent. They were rock stars! Not only did they unload my truck in a jiffy, they also put together my furniture and organized the boxes in a way that has been easy to unpack. After dealing with bad movers in the past (including having a couch dropped through a stain glass window, costing me my deposit), it was awesome working with Intelligent Moving! I was impressed with this company from my first round of calls to them. I 'lost' the last spot they had for the month but they made the extra effort to squeeze me in. I had a two-man crew; they were methodical, patient, and thorough. They did a particularly good job wrapping up my belongings in blankets and shrink wrap, and carefully stacking everything in the truck so that nothing got damaged. They were unfazed by my lack of preparation and didn't seem to mind dealing with all of the plastic bags and other odds and ends that I had lying around. The first time I ever hired movers it was Intelligent Labor and they moved us from Somerville MA to Olympia WA in the winter of 2015. Remember that winter from hell? They loaded up the truck on one of the first days above freezing after 5 weeks of what felt like endless snow. I've experienced a few moving nightmares since and have learned they are 20 times better than other movers. They are professional and friendly. They communicate. They didn't damage anything. They were nice to talk to while loading and unloading. They did what they said they were going to do. This is all pretty basic, but in a move you want a company that does what they say they will do and what you hire them for. If you're moving across the country, it is worth the extra money to have Intelligent Labor move your stuff over a van line. Yes, really. They are the best ever.
