    My new glasses!!
    Krista T.

I had not seen an optometrist in a few years and was past due for a new prescription. I also went with my son and his father so we could all check our eye health. It was very clean, friendly, had a wide range of options for many demographics of medical coverage and the knowledge was unmatched. I had full confidence in the staff and will absolutely return when I need eye care again! Thank you for the sight and new found confidence!

Exceptional service! I've been coming here annually for around 10 years. Staff is always professional, knowledgeable, and able to accommodate all my needs with my busy schedule. I trust International optometry for my eye exams, contacts, and recommendations on products to use for my dry eyes. They also sell designer glasses. I purchased a pair of Gucci GG1071 glasses which I love and still wear them today. Thanks!

Perfectly curated spectacles and 5 star service!

I'm not sure who ghostwrites AND editorializes a "computer illiterate coworkers review" these days. Is it possible to have children, aged 3 and 6 and be computer illiterate...? Is Tim L.'s review really a mea culpa? Maybe Tim L.'s "friend" is also common sense deficient. Polar opposite of my experiences at International Optometry. I am admittedly a horrible patient, because as y'all know, I work in clinical environment(s) and am neurotic about sterilization protocols and am comically phobic about cross-contamination. I digress. Okay: my entire fandamily has been going to International Optometry since 2007. Why haven't I Yelped it? Because I like to feel smug and superior and keep some things on the hush-hush list. As a general rule, I never review a personal physician or practice, and especially not in the fields in which I work. Separation of church and state, if you will. But I will make an exception here because Dr. Le and her staff have given us VIP service from Day 1 and I would not hesitate to recommend her. She has the official Mad Hattrix Endorsement (which I just created, right now) which is pretty, pretty, pretty difficult to achieve. Dr. Le and her staff are chic and fashion forward - which I, personally like in a clinician; it's a welcome respite from franchises. Would you, Gentle Yelper, ever want to have some frumpy haus frau with split ends and grown out roots care for your hair? I thought not. Same principle. * The Cadet wore funky glasses but switched to daily disposables in 2007 under the attentive eye (haha) of Dr. Le. * This is an independent, family run, family friendly practice. * While there is a steady stream of efficiently booked patients in and out the door, Dr. Le and her staff will graciously show you frames, answer questions and give expert opinions, if solicited. They never push for a sale. * Dr. Le graduated from Cal and I love that she put down roots for her boutique practice in Oak-Land, on International, no less. * In 2008, I got eyelash extensions that failed miserably and warranted a trip to the ER, where they tripped over themselves and googled a palliative solution (gentle application of olive oil) but didn't have any. The ER doc literally pulled the lashes off, manually. Individually. Along with my natural lashes. Did I mention my eyes were red, inflamed and nearly swollen shut before his "treatment"? * I made an appointment with Dr. Le and brought along the RX eye drops they dispensed at the hospital. She chastised me - rightly so - she's a specialist, after all - and informed me that the anesthetic drops could have damaged my vision or even caused blindness. * Dr. Le said if I ever had another emergency, I should call her directly and she'd open the office for me, no matter what the hour. * International Optometry is a certified retailer for a number of designer frames that will keep your peeps posh AND healthy: Gucci, Armani, Prada, Versace - and some esoteric global brands that come in limited edition as well. The selections are beautifully edited and I defer to the staff to assist the Cadet in choosing his frames. Yeah, I trust them that much, and they're always spot on. * Even if you have 20/20 vision or have had Lasik, you still need a checkup once a year. The speckles in the Cadet's hazel eyes are very similar to freckles or beauty marks on the skin - so long as they do not change shape or become raised. He was the one who asked, and I learned something new. My eyes are much darker, so these spots (that a large portion of the population has) may not even be detectable with, well... the naked eye, and only with the proper equipment. * VSP, Healthcare Reimbursement and 125 plans are happily accepted and copays thoroughly explained. A summary of your benefits can be pulled up and printed out for your reference. * The Cadet never leaves without a free supply of trial contacts when his RX or brand changes. * Dr. Le has a beautiful chair side manner and is very gentle - an expert in her field. The entire staff is committed to providing a tranquil and reassuring visit, every time. Every visit has been professional, thorough and informative - I know that I have invested in a highly ethical clinician and that literally makes it easier for me to sleep at night. Dr. Le speaks English, Vietnamese and medical Spanish. As an adoptee, the gentle lilt of Dr. Le's accent reminds me of the country that I love, and the fantastic food, which is available in abundance on International. Good thing I have the banh mi menu at my favorite VN deli just a few blocks away memorized; it's not easy to read when your pupils are still a bit dilated. Don't let your annual benefits or HCRA fall to the wayside - take care of your vision, and schedule an appointment before the end of the year, and reward yourself with a delicious banh mi and some high-octane coffee!

They know my family because we've given them so much business over the years.  It was a quick routine checkup today.   There's a new glaucoma test! No longer will you anxiously await the puff of air directed at each eye. Yay to new technology! Dr. Hoh and staff have gone above and beyond with adhering to the COVID guidelines. You'll see protective glass on the reception desk, numerous air purifiers throughout the office (including 4-5 inside the exam room alone with the door open and Dr. Hoh seated across the room). Every frame you've tried on will be collected for decontamination. The waiting room has moved outside by the elevators. If you need help selecting a frame that suits your face, Annie is a great help choosing the stylish ones. So, there's absolutely no excuse for not getting a checkup now! Also FYI, Dr. Hoh has another Yelp listing ("A Chinatown Optometrist" with more reviews if you would like to check out.

This office usually does not provide eye glasses prescription to you automatically unless you…read morespecifically ask for it. Separately, Dr. Hoh was to provide contact lens fitting and prescription based on previous contact lens package info. On the day of the fitting, my son had an eye infection and was unable to finish the fitting, he had to make another appointment for the following week. Upon his return, my son was told that the cash payment for the contact lens fitting he had paid previously was used for his infection treatment and he had to pay again for contact lens fitting. When I called and complained about the irregularity of this practice, Dr. Hoh became irated and said he did not want to have anything to do with our family and refused to provide my son a contact lens prescription. Dr. Hoh said he had treated my son for the eye infection, the contact lens cash payment was used for the medical treatment. My son is a Medical patient, but Dr. Hoh did not bother to submit a claim. We don't know what the so called medical treatment entailed; there was no itemized billing for any treatment. All we had for that day was a receipt for contact lens fitting. Nothing was mentioned about a medical treatment or relevant charges. Somehow, on the follow-up appointment, that cash contact lens payment had turned into payment for medical treatment. This is highly irregular and Dr. Hoh's attitude was arrogant. Perhaps he believes his Chinatown patients have little choice but to accept this kind of practice. They rarely, if ever, raise any questions because they are mostly confined to Chinatown. Still, wrong is wrong, Chinatown or not. Upon being called out on his highly irregular business practice, he did refund the cash payment with a check which my unbanked son has to pay a fee to get the refund. We will look for another doctor outside of Chinatown.

Many docs see as many patients as they can, and have lost the ability to touch patients and have good bedside manner. With HMO and Health plans driving doctors to do this in order to stay in business. Dr. Tsai is the exception to that new reality in healthcare. He truly cares about his patients, and spends a good amount of time with you. His staff is multi lingual speaking: English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish. This office is medium sized with 5 exam rooms, very modern ophthalmology equipment, and a super friendly staff. His office is very busy, obviously because he is a favorite here in the community, so you might want to allow some extra time for your appointment. On a personal note, several years ago Dr. Tsai was the only Doctor of about the half dozen different specialist that we saw, that was quickly and accurately able to diagnose a family member with a complex neurological disorder. His experience and accreditations, coupled with his great Bedside manner make him an outstanding MD.
