If everyone would use the left lane for passing only, the entire world would be saved.

(I recommend doing that, especially during lunch.) One of my good friends sent recommendations. My husband got the French dip. I hesitate calling it a poboy because I'm from NOLA, and outside south Louisiana, it's just a sandwich . I got the grilled shrimp lunch special with fries. Honestly, spend a little more and get the platter. I'd get them fried, but I can't have gluten. I risked cross contamination and got the fries. They were absolutely worth it. Fortunately, I didn't have a reaction. Trevor was our server, and he was excellent. You could tell he knew the regulars and locals based on how he'd approach new diners. He also gave really good recommendations. The vegetable of the day was a casserole, and Trevor told my husband that was better than the fries. My husband inhaled that casserole. If you're an Elvis fan, request to sit at the table. Overall, I'd definitely come back. For being on Open Table, just know this is a casual restaurant on the bay. Nothing frilly - just good, southern cooking. We will be back!

This spot has a really charming atmosphere and definitely nails the "cute coastal" vibe. Service…read morewas a highlight--staff were genuinely friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from start to finish. That said, the food was a bit of a mixed experience. The chargrilled oysters unfortunately came with quite a bit of shell, which made them difficult to enjoy--though we did manage to find some actual pearl in there, so small win and fun! The grilled fish and shrimp were noticeably overcooked, and my husband's fried shrimp leaned the same way, lacking that fresh, tender bite you hope for. Sides were decent but didn't particularly stand out for my grilled dinner. Husband said slaw and hush puppies were good, my green beans were delicious. Overall, it's a lovely place with great service, but the kitchen execution didn't quite match the setting. With a few tweaks, this could easily be a standout spot.

As a family, we came to the Spanish Fort area during Hurricane Ida evacuation in 2021. The food was extremely good and plentiful. Fast forward to 2026, we revisited here and ordered the same seafood plates and was surprised how much they've reduced the amount of food. In 2021, I remember we had 3 catfish filets, imitation crab cake, hush puppies, numerous shrimp, and oysters and everything was hot to taste. It was so much food we needed take out boxes. This time, we were only given 1 catfish filet, four boiled shrimp, 4 fried shrimp, 3 oysters, another imitation crab cake, two cold hush puppies and a plate full of cold French fries. The sides were meh, with canned turnips that were so cold that I couldn't eat them and pretty decent baked beans that were actually tasty. Everything was seasoned very well but it certainly was not worth the $30 price point per person. There was a noticeable difference between what we experienced in 2021 and now. Suffice it to say, we won't be returning here again. Oh how I wish there were a Papadeaux's in Louisiana, Mississippi or the Gulf of Alabama area.

Plenty of options for seafood and American style dishes to choose from the menu. The service was a little slow but I attribute that to the number of people in our group. We were a group of 12. There was plenty of parking, the place was clean and the staff was friendly. The prices were also reasonable.

My server, Braxton, greeted me with a warm smile and stayed attentive throughout the entire meal--he made me feel like a VIP. I ordered the petite filet, cooked medium-rare to absolute perfection. It arrived quickly, and each bite was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The sweet potato casserole surprised me--in general, I avoid sugary sides, but this was so worth it. Briquettes offers a fantastic range of sides, and I went with the grilled broccoli. The char from the grill gave it an extra pop of flavor, a perfect complement to the steak. They even brought out complementary rolls that were delightfully soft and warm. I judge restaurants by their iced tea, and theirs was spot on--refreshing, ideal for a hot Alabama summer. The veggies were cooked just right, and the added bonus of horseradish on the side took my meal to the next level. I actually finished every last bite--a rare occurrence for me! This isn't a bougie, reservation-only steakhouse like you find in big cities. It's a laid-back, hometown gem where you can pull up, park, walk in, and enjoy an outstanding meal without breaking the bank. I'm so glad it's close to home--Braxton and the team at Briquettes have earned a loyal customer. I'll definitely be back!

My go to is their ribeye, and it is usually seasoned and cooked just right. But I took my wife and daughter to the Spanish Fort location for lunch and to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The ribeye, although cooked to temp tasted like the chef poured liquid smoke on it. It even smelled like smoke. I took one bite and that was it. The waiter came over several times and never asked why I wasn't eating it. When I asked for the check, he asked if I wanted a box to go and I told him no way. My wife insisted that we take it home to the dog, but she wouldn't eat it either. So disappointed in this location. What happened?!? NOT RECOMMENDED

The steaks were cooked to medium rare to perfection and the best taste even though they were only 6 ounces. My complements to the chef!! The mashed potatoes and gravy were the standard and I love those. The green beans were nothing great and the rice was like a rice pilaf. This is an excellent deal for a Wednesday night dinner. My son ordered a hamburger with loaded baked potato and I got a small steak that came with two sides, I selected sweet potato casserole and French onion soup. The meal was just over 60.00 even with the ten dollars off discount. The steak was tiny and tuff as shoe leather, in fact I considered repairing my boot sole with it. The French onion soup was ( I measured, 3 ounces lol) that's not even 1/2 cup. It was ok because it was not tasty and although I basically live across the road from the restaurant it was cold and I threw it out, it lacked any characteristics of the classic dish. FYI a normal individual serving of soup is 8 to 10 ounces. The sweet potato casserole was pure sugar, I have to admit it tasted ok, but I wouldn't have intentionally ordered dessert for dindin. Now for my son's burger, the bun was hard as a brick! We threw it out and I put his meal on a brioche bun I had at home. The " loaded baked potato wasn't very well baked and certainly not loaded but I was left wondering if maybe the kitchen staff were baked and loaded. A total waste of 60 + dollars and tip we should have gone to Five guys with much better food for a fraction the price!
