Hot pastrami burger
Shirley N.

This was on my list of must tries during our weeklong vacation on the Big Island. How cute was our first impression. The footprint reminded us of a farmhouse. We were greeted and seated immediately. Known for the best BBQ on the island; however the three of us didn't have BBQ. We did order the special- double fried baby back ribs as a starter. Delicious fall off the bone finger licking. Came 4 to a plate. Lunch entrees - * hubby got the hot pastrami burger. * daughter & I ordered fish & chips. The fish was mahi mahi. Battered and fried fresh. The fries not good. Very limpy like it had been sitting awhile. This being our first full day we felt like indulging in everything suggested. We also ordered drinks & dessert. My lava flow was great. The family had Bloody Mary's. The chocolate cake was decadent. It was very generous slice. So much so that we took most of it to go. Parking is available on the property.

BBQ plate with ribs, brisket, pulled pork and sausage

Everything we ate here was delicious and perfectly cooked. Wr really enjoyed the house made sausage, ribs and brisket with the house made lilikoi BBQ sauce. The sausage was so good we ended up ordering another link! The shrimp was super crispy and light. I'm a big fan of corn bread and was not disappointed. Friendly service. Plenty of parking. Good portions. Calories well spent.

Great spot for BBQ and more in Waimea. The menu was large and diverse, with both sea and land options. The ambiance was cool because you enter in the front and leave in the back. It also has a homey feel to it all. The portions were good sized and the value was fair for Hawaii. We had brisket mac (good and heavy), pulled pork sandwich, brisket sandwich, and fresh ono platter blackened (excellent). The brisket was very good as you would expect! The host was very friendly, however our waitress was not very kind. We all have bad days though and it is a tough job. Overall, worth checking out on the Big Island and food was very good. I loved the vibe and it is a hidden gem.

We enjoyed the atmosphere, service and the delicious food! I had the Brisket French Dip and my wife had the Brisket Mac 'n Cheese. The Banana Cream Pie was fabulous!

One of our favorite places in Waimea. Casual atmosphere with great food and attentive servers. Leave room for dessert.

The hostess was so sweet and service was great, but unfortunately the food was not good. The daily tater tots were fine but weren't hot, and all of the meat in the BBQ sampler plate was so dry that I only ate a few bites. The onion soup was heavy on peppers and not good. There were, however, two things I enjoyed: the cornbread and the banana cream pie. I wouldn't come back for the BBQ, but the banana cream pie was so delicious and a huge portion. I recommend ordering it to go for dessert.

Amazing! Busy busy restaurant with long wait times especially during peak dinner hours. Service is friendly and has a nice little small town Hawaiian country feel. Food is awesome and dessert is even better. The brisket Mac and cheese was sooo good. It was very creamy and delicious. Their baked beans are pretty good too. It's different and had kidney beans. Their brisket is super tender and very flavorful. The banana cream pie is excellent and must try if it's available. The macadamia nuts in the crust is next level. The chocolate cake was rich but yummy!

Mahi Mahi - Fresh Catch of the Day

A local bbq restaurant in Waimea. We were fortunate they had a table for two, lots of groups waiting for a table. We ordered the bbq sampler and the grilled mahi mahi. The sampler was a great way to enjoy the bbq. The mahi mahi was cooked to perfection with a nice sauce that complimented the fish with veggies. We did enjoy The Fish and The Hog, it's worth the trip out here.

We decided on the BBQ Sampler Plate (brisket, sausage, ribs, and pulled pork) to be able to try a variety of the meats! It was flavorful and well-seasoned. There are dipping sauces on the table too. Glad we got the sweet potato fries and the baked beans per recommendation of the hostess. It was enough food for 2.

So many people recommended this restaurant to me so I gave it a try. I ordered the sampler plate on the recommendation of our hostess and it came with the ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and sausage. Sweet potato fries, beans, and pickled veggies were also included. I loved the sausage and the ribs because they were so flavorful, soft, and tender. The pulled pork and brisket were a bit dry. The sweet potatoes fries and the beans were really good. Overall, really enjoyed the food and the service.

Daily tots

At the recommendation of someone I follow on social media, I had to make this a stop while on the Big Island. The recommendation was valid. Food was excellent. The service top notch. The atmosphere casual and welcoming. I started with the daily tots. Daily tots were tots covered in pesto, bacon and melted cheese. Oh so good. Generous portion which could easily be shared. I asked the server for food recommendations before placing my meal order. There were a few sampler type options I was admiring. Turns out these were on the recommend list. I ordered the brisket sampler with grilled pineapple and coleslaw. The brisket was fork tender and perfectly cooked. I liked the grilled pineapple with paprika (?) on it. The coleslaw was not to my liking. It didn't have a mayo base which is my preference. Decent portion size. Lastly, I did order dessert, coconut cake. Huge piece of cake. I could only eat part of the slice so took the rest home for later. It was just as good on round two Definitely a good place for bbq. Visit hungry!

Smokehouse Salad

Best service! Greeter was so friendly and filled with Aloha. Smokehouse salad was ono! Coming back again!

Came here with my family and what a surprise--everything we ordered was a hit. The onion soup was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. I had the fish tacos, which were fresh and well-seasoned, and sampled some of the BBQ--tender, smoky, and legit. But the real star? The banana pudding cake. Easily one of the best desserts I've ever had. Light, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet. Laid-back atmosphere, friendly service, and seriously good food. Definitely a must-stop in Kona.

They opened with beef tartare that ruined me for every other beef tartare I've ever had. The osso buco is legendary. Then came the double cheeseburger... and I need everyone to understand that I don't hand out compliments like ketchup packets. This is, without question, the best burger I've ever eaten. It's so good it makes you want a cigarette afterward--and I don't even smoke. I've come back many times just for that burger because nothing else I've tried on Hawaiʻi Island or Oʻahu comes close. Their tater tots have developed their own fan club, and the little bar with beer, wine, and cocktails makes it dangerously easy to linger. The staff is consistently warm and welcoming. After being away for six weeks because of a family emergency, one of my first stops after returning was this burger. It was still outstanding, but I did notice the beef patty seemed about a third to nearly half thinner than I remembered. At around $20, that's noticeable. I'm hoping it was just an off day because this place has earned enough goodwill for me to give it another shot. Don't overlook the butcher shop itself. The meat quality is miles beyond what you'll find in a grocery store. I bought their ground beef for a ragù alla Bolognese, and it was so spectacular that I went back specifically to buy more for homemade burgers. Bottom line: this is one of the hidden gems of the island. Come for the butcher shop, stay for the burger, and if you leave without wondering whether you should light an imaginary post-burger cigarette, we clearly ordered different meals.

Waimea Butcher Shop is a good place to try them, (it is also a restaurant)! You will be served with warm & friendly service. I found out that I enjoy the taste of fresh grass fed beef, while my family did not. They did not think the meat was fatty or tender enough. This is because grass fed cows are much leaner and don't have their feed come to them. Anyway, I enjoyed my dining experience here and if you're curious, you should definitely come and give it a try! If you're inclined and know how to cook a mean steak, and staying somewhere with a kitchen, grab your supplies here.

When we walked in, it was very lively, with a singer and guitarist, and most tables were full! We decided to split a double cheeseburger with onion rings along with a side of fries. The burger was SO good, it was thin but also filling at the same time. The onion rings were super tasty and the fries were also very good! Overall great experience. As someone originally from the Midwest, it's hard to turn down a good burger, so we had to try it. When I tell you this was arguably the best smash burger I've had in my life's I'm not lying. I ordered "The Dubs" which is basically a double smash burger with cheese. For the toppings, I ordered their smash sauce (insanely good!), onions, and pickles. The burgers also come with a side of salt and pepper fries by default, but I ordered some onions rings as well. The onion rings were cooked perfectly, with the onions being sweet, and the batter being a nice consistency and not too thick. The fries were also great, and I loved the thicker, more coarse pepper they use to season them. The place appears to do a great amount of business, but only judging by their reviews, but by the fact that it was very busy during dinner time. The atmosphere inside is very enjoyable, with a small bar up near the front counter, sports on some TVs in side, and live music (island themed) was also being played inside. If you want a great burger, this is your spot!

The exterior, and interior, of the building is nothing special. As a matter of fact, that's part of what I loved about it; it helps you realize it's an all around fantastic food joint, not just somewhere that charges overpriced amounts for average food because of the "vibe." It's extremely busy inside this place, and staff was extremely friendly and pretty quick with turning out orders. I ordered a two entree plate, which consisted of their teriyaki chicken and pina colada shrimp, per the recommendation of the woman taking my order. The shrimp was incredible and the pins colada sauce that it comes with it's something I now dream about! The chicken was also great. It's dark meat, which is something to keep in mind in case you're a pickier eater, but the char and flavor of it was wonderful. For the sides I ordered rice and their mac salad. I'm not usually a mac salad kind of guy, but this changed my mind and I can now say I'm a true fan. By the time everything is totaled up, what looks like a casual lunch turns into a very expensive meal. If you're looking for a splurge, the food is fine. If you're expecting a laid-back burger-and-taco spot with reasonable prices, you may experience some sticker shock.
