    Ono Fish Platter
    David W.

Great spot for BBQ and more in Waimea. The menu was large and diverse, with both sea and land options. The ambiance was cool because you enter in the front and leave in the back. It also has a homey feel to it all. The portions were good sized and the value was fair for Hawaii. We had brisket mac (good and heavy), pulled pork sandwich, brisket sandwich, and fresh ono platter blackened (excellent). The brisket was very good as you would expect! The host was very friendly, however our waitress was not very kind. We all have bad days though and it is a tough job. Overall, worth checking out on the Big Island and food was very good. I loved the vibe and it is a hidden gem.

Everything we ate here was delicious and perfectly cooked. Wr really enjoyed the house made sausage, ribs and brisket with the house made lilikoi BBQ sauce. The sausage was so good we ended up ordering another link! The shrimp was super crispy and light. I'm a big fan of corn bread and was not disappointed. Friendly service. Plenty of parking. Good portions. Calories well spent.

A local bbq restaurant in Waimea. We were fortunate they had a table for two, lots of groups waiting for a table. We ordered the bbq sampler and the grilled mahi mahi. The sampler was a great way to enjoy the bbq. The mahi mahi was cooked to perfection with a nice sauce that complimented the fish with veggies. We did enjoy The Fish and The Hog, it's worth the trip out here.

Amazing! Busy busy restaurant with long wait times especially during peak dinner hours. Service is friendly and has a nice little small town Hawaiian country feel. Food is awesome and dessert is even better. The brisket Mac and cheese was sooo good. It was very creamy and delicious. Their baked beans are pretty good too. It's different and had kidney beans. Their brisket is super tender and very flavorful. The banana cream pie is excellent and must try if it's available. The macadamia nuts in the crust is next level. The chocolate cake was rich but yummy!

The hostess was so sweet and service was great, but unfortunately the food was not good. The daily tater tots were fine but weren't hot, and all of the meat in the BBQ sampler plate was so dry that I only ate a few bites. The onion soup was heavy on peppers and not good. There were, however, two things I enjoyed: the cornbread and the banana cream pie. I wouldn't come back for the BBQ, but the banana cream pie was so delicious and a huge portion. I recommend ordering it to go for dessert.

Great, friendly service. Food was so good! Ordered brisket street tacos and a lilikoi lemon drop. Delish

We decided on the BBQ Sampler Plate (brisket, sausage, ribs, and pulled pork) to be able to try a variety of the meats! It was flavorful and well-seasoned. There are dipping sauces on the table too. Glad we got the sweet potato fries and the baked beans per recommendation of the hostess. It was enough food for 2.

So many people recommended this restaurant to me so I gave it a try. I ordered the sampler plate on the recommendation of our hostess and it came with the ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and sausage. Sweet potato fries, beans, and pickled veggies were also included. I loved the sausage and the ribs because they were so flavorful, soft, and tender. The pulled pork and brisket were a bit dry. The sweet potatoes fries and the beans were really good. Overall, really enjoyed the food and the service.

Soggiest fries ever! Do not recommend ordering the fries. They are over priced, soggy and burnt.

At the recommendation of someone I follow on social media, I had to make this a stop while on the Big Island. The recommendation was valid. Food was excellent. The service top notch. The atmosphere casual and welcoming. I started with the daily tots. Daily tots were tots covered in pesto, bacon and melted cheese. Oh so good. Generous portion which could easily be shared. I asked the server for food recommendations before placing my meal order. There were a few sampler type options I was admiring. Turns out these were on the recommend list. I ordered the brisket sampler with grilled pineapple and coleslaw. The brisket was fork tender and perfectly cooked. I liked the grilled pineapple with paprika (?) on it. The coleslaw was not to my liking. It didn't have a mayo base which is my preference. Decent portion size. Lastly, I did order dessert, coconut cake. Huge piece of cake. I could only eat part of the slice so took the rest home for later. It was just as good on round two Definitely a good place for bbq. Visit hungry!

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. A five star rating just isn't high enough. Food: My husband and I shared the sampler platter with a side salad and potato salad for our sides. Everything was delicious and the perfect amount. As a splurge, we ordered the special for dessert, a strawberry cheesecake and the staple coconut cake. These were some of the best desserts I've ever had at a restaurant. Service: We experienced such friendly and helpful staff. A warm greeting, great recommendations, and prompt service were top notch. Ambiance: The restaurant had a homestyle aged cabin feel that was clean and cozy.

Tamara seated us and is a sweet Disney princess that speaks Mandarin! It was so nice to practice with her. Even though she wasn't our server, she stopped by to chat when she had free time. Our food was fantastic. Everything was really good, but I recommend the reuben eggrolls! Very unique and tasty. The restaurant can gather a crowd, so be prepared to wait

Well that ain't happening here. Stopped here to grab a few basics. Shelves are almost empty and selection sparse. But the kicker was the attitude of the woman behind the counter. Surly, snappy and went out of her way to be unpleasant. We all have bad days but rolling your eyes because I ask for sauce on the side instead of on top for a poke bowl? Arguing with me because I want to buy twelve Sparkling Ice drinks? Another eye roll when we added another popsicle to our items before she was finished ringing up all our items! I should have just left everything on the counter and walked out. Instead I spent $100 and got tons of attitude. Couple days later I needed more ice. Go back here? Heck no. I drove to Foodland where the folks couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. Our Hawaii visit was wonderful and we experienced the Aloha Spirit every where. Just not here.

I opted for the premium fresh ahi tuna Hawaiian style which is $20 for a pick 2 poke bowl. I ended up choosing that and the spicy salmon. Loved the flavor of the spicy salmon which tasted like a gochujang seasoning. I'm not a huge fan of mayo in poke so this was great for something spicy without the creaminess of mayo. Ahi was great as well, the Hawaiian flavor is on the lighter side but it did taste very fresh. It's on the pricer side for supermarket sushi but it's definitely better than what I usually see in the states.

We arrived early after maybe 10am. That means like should be fresh, right? The gentleman serving poke was wonderful! Very kind and easy to talk to. He was very patient waiting for us to make a decision. Once, we were ready to check out, only self check-out was available. This was fine. No big deal. We also purchased fried vinegar chicken wings (which was really good). They've made portions smaller but it's ok. Still worth the money. Now, for the poke itself. It was not good. I couldn't figure out why and husband said it did not seem fresh. That's it. The texture or flavor was not what it usually is. It was ok but they have served better. I have been craving this poke for weeks too. It was so bad that I just didn't feel like stopping by another day. Maybe, next time we visit, the poke will be fresh. Keep in mind, this is one of the only grocery stores around this area so be prepared for some very high prices on water and snacks. Convenient items needed are very pricey as well. Excellent customer service will make up for all those things though. I'm sure I will be back. Oh, and I cannot forget my butter mochi. Another craving I get in Hawaii. I will wait to hit the grocery stores for this and it never disappoints.

5/5 -- The Best KTA, The Best Buttermilk Doughnut, The Best People…read more Every time I fly home to Hawaiʻi Island, the very first stop I rush to make is KTA Waimea -- specifically for their buttermilk doughnut. I don't know what magic they put in that recipe, but it surpasses every other KTA location's version by miles (althouhh each KTA has its own five-star features). Warm, soft, perfectly tangy, lightly sweet -- it's the taste of home, memory, and comfort all packed into one doughnut. Nothing else compares. Beyond the food, the staff here truly feels like family. Always helpful, always professional, always welcoming. You can tell they care about their customers and each other, and that kind of service shows in every department. The butcher department is outstanding -- knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to help you pick the best cuts. And the fresh fish section is something special. KTA Waimea buys straight from local fishermen, just like they always have. When I was young, it was my job to "pound" and weigh the heʻe (octopus) whenever my grandfather sold his catch to KTA. Those are memories that shaped me, and seeing that same commitment to local sourcing still alive today means everything. Their fresh-caught fish is consistently delicious -- clean, quality, and handled with the same respect fishermen expect. KTA Waimea isn't just a store -- it's a cornerstone of the community, a place rooted in real relationships, real history, and real local food done right. If you're passing through Waimea, this is the one KTA you don't skip.
