OMG these are the juiciest and most delicious kebabs I've ever had outside of Pakistan - and the portions are huge. One order of kebab is enough for two people since it comes with a great Arabic salad, grilled veggies, and bread. And when you dine in, you get bombarded with Shiite Muslim iconography and Iraqi TV . Kabob is made of beef, expect a big portion with lots of bang for your buck, for 8$ you get 4 yes 4 and not 2 skewers of juicy tender beef kebab with assortments of fresh breads, one of them is Iraqi bread that is much better than the thin pita that is found in some of other area restaurants to absorb the great taste of the kebab, and you also get a salad incl. in the price. Service was welcoming and personal by a lady with a genuine smile and warmth. Also tried the hearty generous portion of the lentil soup, there is also cooked food on the menu but reached the limits of my appetite and than some. if your up to good simple food served with a smile and generosity check out this small unassuming shop shop. it seem that the locals already have during the time I was there the phone was ringing non stop and people were coming by to pick up their take out orders so the word seems out with the locals who have lot's of options in the area but make this one their place of choice. Taste-wise, this place is nice, the kabab is however way too oily/greasy, the chicken was absolutely perfect!! Come here if you like chicken and lamb! We took 2 sandwiches and 1 mixed meat platter. They were of exactly the same composition!! Meat, lettuce with tomatoes and cucumber + radish pickle, the 1st ones were in a pita wrap and the others in a plate! I was disappointed that they didn't even put some hummus in the sandwich, it didn't make sense to me who like balanced meals. Their plates/sandwiches lacked veggies. The service was very bad, the lady was too busy and rude in her responses. The only thing I really liked (hence the 3stars) was the chicken and the prices quite low. Ok so this is not your typical restaurant....in fact by appearance you might just say Nooooo. Appearance wise, it's not very sanitary, the onions and pickles don't really look appetizing, the pita bread doesn't look like it's been eaten, in fact it was a bit hard.....That said your not coming to Iraqi for the above....your coming for the Kebobs and damn they are so good, especially the red meat, the kebob, the lamb pieces etc....very very good, salty perfectly cooked. What can I say, I'm biased towards all things Iraqi! Going into this establishment isn't for the faint of heart as you will find it to be slightly scary to downright horrific - so much so that you begin to wonder how a place like this could have been in business for two decades. Well the answer is simple: It's the food itself. The bread is freshly made and is that football-shaped Iraqi bread that has been made since the time of the Sumerians - seriously (I'm a nerd and I've researched it). The Kabob is perfectly seasoned, succulent, and juicy charcoal-grilled deliciousness that is accompanied by fresh onions, basil, tomatoes, with a dash of sumac (if you prefer). Even when I'm not hungry, I can eat about two of these sandwiches. Apparently others feel this way too - so much so that I notice people from all walks of life enjoying Iraqi Kabob. Be sure to have an Iraqi tea when you're done - basically a little hour glass-shaped shot-glass half-filled with sugar, accented with cardamom - well actually you'll probably want about five of them. From the outside, this place is pretty dinky. From the inside, it is DEFINITELY dinky. But, the food is fantastic. They give you generous portions, the prices are reasonable. I've eaten in once and got kabab to go a couple of times. The place is teeny and not so pretty inside, but food is delicious. The kabab is amazing! It can be a tad too oily and sometimes salty, but overall closest thing to real Iraqi kabab. The only problem I have is they won't give you roasted tomatoes if you order kabab to go (I'll even pay for it!) or give you samoon (Iraqi bread). What I like to do is stock up for a rainy day. The Tikka and Kabobs were nice. Seems to be a bit on the expensive side. The dinning area is very small, so decided to take out. I ordered a mix of Kabob and Tikka plate. The portions are small. This is the other Iraqi style kabob restaurant that is good enough to get my loyalty. This Iraqi kabob has more filler in it, though. It has a mushier mouth-feel and too much fat in the flavor profile. And that is why it does not get a perfect score from me. It is good, not great. The masgoof (fish) is quite good, however. It is an entire fish cut down the center, nicely seasoned on a bed of basmati rice. A traditional recipe would add roasted almond slices and raisins to the rice. One would take a pinch of the gentle, flakey grilled fish meat and wad it up with the roasted almond/raisin rice into a single bite. Then, you'd understand why I wax poetic at the memory of this meal. You would only get plain basmati here, though. And it is still good. But the star of the show, for me, is the gullub (grilled heart). Non-Arabs, stop making that grossed-out face. This meat is sublime. Heart is very dense meat, but does not have the bitter mineral-rich flavor of other organ meats. Liver and kidney have a taste some people can't take and I get that. But not heart. It has a unique thickness and leanness while being as tender as prime rib and as flavorful as a t-bone steak. It is fabulous when grilled and lightly salted. We first ate at Iraqi Kebob (Al Kebab Al Iraqi) 14 years ago when we were in town for a wedding. I was only 10 at the time, but vividly remember eating here with my father and his friend. We live in Jacksonville, Florida, and do not visit the area all that much, but we were recently in town to visit family over this past Memorial weekend. This was my first time going back to Detroit since 2004. Vividly remembering this place, I made coming back to this place my sole mission. So, we went here straight from the airport! ... I almost cried coming back to this place. The place has not changed one bit, and it brought back so many memories of that 2004 trip. All of the people we were with, seeing my cousins from all around the world, all of the Iraqi restaurants and grocery stores we went to, my father running into a fellow Iraqi soldier he knew from back home in Basra that he hasn't seen in 20+ years. No doubt that the place is small and does not have rated customer service but if you are a foody and love good food then you can eat on the street. Same as Mexican food, you will always found good food in mom and pop kind of restaurant. Honestly, I travel all over US and Canada for my job4/5 days a week and this place is my the most favorite since one of my friend recommended. I ordered at least 3 dozen Kabobs every week or 2nd week (depends on my schedule), I carry these kabobs with me in my lunchbox when I travel, wrap in pita bread with couple of kabobs, spinach, cucumber, onion and mayo and walaaaaa. Whoever I shared with, they love it. Wish they will tell me the recipe to I do not have to spend so much money every now and then but I love these people, very friendly and I don't care about the size of the place and their service because I always ordered to go. I just love this place. it is so simple and more than casual but the food is delicious.

I'm very disappointed with the customer service received from this restaurant. Honestly, when I eat out, I tend not to expect too much from the place I choose to eat at. What does get me however is when someone charges you double your bill and when you attempt to kindly explain yourself they actually have the audacity to "ask you to leave". That is, after paying double. They actually had the nerve to tell me that they were simply too busy to look at my receipt or discuss the bill with me. Both when I called or in person. How does a person go from buying one order of kabobs for 10.49 and a half order of meat tekka and another half of chicken tekka, for 6.50 each to a total of almost $ 50.00. They say its extra to sit and eat as opposed to take out, and there is tax too no doubt. I don't have any problems with that. But certainly sitting and eating doesn't cost 30.00! Sad as it is, this is not my first time dealing with such severe "nickel and diming" with this restaurant. I've been coming here off and on for the passed 5 years now, and my bill always seems to be ridiculous, whether I order take out or sit in, it rarely matters. This was the first time I'd actually worked up the nerve to ask them why my bill was so high. Goes to show how my reaction hasn't very much to do with the money factor. Their response was appalling and they did their absolute best to ignore me, or better yet scream at me that they are too busy to look at my order. If you don't mind paying over double of what the menu says, and are okay with being treated like a street rat you should certainly eat here. However, my husband and myself have resorted to taking the matter to any and all higher ups and showing them our previous bills alongside their own menu so that we can have it cleared up once and for all.
