Date night. Had the shrimp tacos. Batter is nice and light on the shrimp, tortillas were very good, the fillings, salsa, slaw, etc. were all very good. Little bits of diced jalapeño was a nice touch. Grilled corn was good as well. Had a beer, wife had a pina colada, she said it was one of the best she has had. Not overly sweet as many of them tend to be. I brought my grandma is for our happy hour date. She wanted to eat somewhere by the water. Island Shrimp was directly on the water with amazing views of downtown Richmond. The weather was perfect and the restaurant was causal, but very nice inside. We sat in the bar for happy hour since it isn't offered outside. Our bartender/server was very nice. I asked her name but I can't remember it ‍- it was unique name that started with an "S" I think. She was super sweet. We had some cocktails, wine, and garlic shrimp with the crab dip. I am always excited to dine at Island Shrimp Company at Rockett's Landing. I always enjoy the relaxing view of the James River while dining on reasonably priced Caribbean themed cuisine. Dining at ISC is almost like having the pleasure of taking a mini beach vacation while still being able to stay close to home. The food & the drinks were delicious. I had their Mai Tai, which was very flavorful & visually pleasing to look at. My husband ordered the Painkiller & he said it was tasty & there was no skimping on the alcohol content of the drink. We shared an appetizer of their Wings, which were also flavorful, tender & juicy. My husband ordered the Coconut Shrimp[from the Appetizer menu] & French Fries as his entree & was very satisfied. Our entire meal was very filling. My husband rarely has leftovers, however, our food was so satisfying that on this visit he did have leftovers to take home. As my entree selection , I ordered their Pork Sandwich which came with a side order of fries. I really enjoyed the sauce on the pork & the pork itself was tasty & tender. We shared dessert, the Hula Ice Cream Pie & it was HUGE! It was also total yummy. A perfect combination of flavors & definitely a dessert that was meant to be shared. Throughout our dining experience, our server was courteous, attentive & helpful with menu options. Visited Saturday afternoon on a hot day. Not too busy, enough to be spread out without being shoulder to shoulder on their outdoor patio. Bright and airy space with a lovely view of the water, chill vibes all around, surprisingly lively given the small crowd. I start with their Isco cocktail flight to loosen up and cool off. Out of the three sampler drinks, the Pina Colada was the star. I usually avoid ordering pina coladas because many places fall flat, mostly because of my high expectations after having the ones in Puerto Rico (Pina Colada's birthplace). But this Pina Colada was top-notch, while the other two cocktails of the flight were watered down and forgettable. For lunch, I had the Teriyaki Glazed Salmon. It was refreshing, and while the flavor was present, it was lacking sauce, and the rice was a bit tough. Probably should've ordered the shrimp instead, but was craving fish. Overall, I would go back for the Pina Colada, nice view, chill vibes and to try out the shrimp. read more

Came for Mother's Day! The atmosphere was really nice and honestly a perfect day. There is a nice flower swing backdrop at the entrance which made for a nice photo op, The interior is modern, fresh, and coastal. There was even a steel drum player! It's located right by the water and it was so nice to be seated to overlook it. The food wasn't bad! We enjoyed the wonton nachos for the table and also shared a couple of the cocktail flights. The shrimp tacos were pretty good although it came with a weird sauce that no one at the table was a huge fan of. The seared pineapple boat was tasty and it was also a huge portion! The salmon dish was okay, not seasoned super well but not bad. The rockfish curry really was not a curry as you would expect. we were definitely expecting it to be a little bit saucier although the curry itself was delicious. Unfortunately just wished there was more! The experience was okay, I will probably assume it's due to the busy day when we came. It took a very long time to seat us even though we had a reservation, and they tried to put us indoors even though our reservation was for outdoor seating. Thankfully they were able to accommodate when I pointed this out. They did not clean underneath our table and there was a bunch of cereal underneath from what I assume was a baby or toddler who had been there before. The plates were not very clean and when we sent a couple back, no one returned with clean ones. Beautiful restaurant right by the water. It was a bit chilly outside but the view made it worth having an outdoor seat. Also, came in on a weekday and there was live music. Walking in, we were greeted shortly after and were provided seating quickly. Waitress was kind and patient in taking our order or answering our questions. Food was delicious, especially the shrimp. I like the different flavors of shrimp, but the garlic shrimp and butter was definitely my favorite. The calamari was typical, but still tasty. Pretty disappointed with the bar service. We waited about 10 minutes before someone made eye contact with us, which I get because it was a Friday night (7pm). But when we got our drinks, mine was half filled. We had to request for the bar to be wiped down, which had other people's silverware and crumbs. We ordered garlic shrimp from the app menu and had to request cutlery. I asked the bartender (Jordan, I think) and she slapped the beer tap and handed us plastic forks... We felt like we really inconvenienced the bar staff, but the one in particular, by dining. Throughout our time there, food kept being brought to us for another table. I work with Toast... it's really not hard to transfer a table. Another bartender cashed us out, and didn't give my change. Despite the poor service, I would've given a larger tip had she not assumed my change was for her. We chose to stop by because we heard the music from the restaurant next door and wanted to check it out. For the meal I ordered the fish tacos and they were loaded with fish. Sometimes I feel like you don't get quite as much food with tacos and leave hungry but not here! I literally had to drive to Gillies Creek Park, park my car and get a Lyft. Because of that reason I can say I'll not come back. Today I just happen to be feeling a little adventurous. Surprisingly they were not really busy. I guess the apartments and the other restaurant is taking up all the parking spaces. Upon entering I was a little surprised because I thought it was a little more fancy than it is. It is a casual kid friendly restaurant. The kitchen area straight ahead reminded me of a diner.. The waitress was very nice. Although I ordered tacos I would have preferred silverware to scoop up the stuff that fell out of my taco. No biggie, I'll use my hands. I ordered the crab & artichoke dip. - it came with fried wontons. The portion size was small if I had to share it, it wouldn't have been enough. I wish I had a few lumps of crab to remind me I was actually eating crab dip. Otherwise it was fine. Sweet tea - I requested more ice it was still warm. It also had an after taste. I ended up asking her to remove the tea from the check. No issues there. Shrimp tacos - while I ordered the shrimp tacos I must say the teriyaki glaze salmon sounds good. I didn't order it because if it came out overcooked, i would have been mad. So I ordered the shrimp tacos. The shrimp tacos were good the sriracha aioli sauce does have a hint of spice (although I asked and was told it wasn't spicy) but nothing crazy. It's doable. I'm just glad I got it on the side. I got a to go box for two of the tacos because I couldn't eat all of it but I'm taking it home so that says something lol. Bathroom - the mirror was dirty and there was trash everywhere and considering it's 330. I feel like they haven't been open that long somebody could've cleaned it by now. All that said, the view over the James River was nice. Patio seating is dog friendly. Total cost $42 w/20% tip for food and $22 in Lyft because of lack of parking Honestly, I would've been OK with the $42 but because I had to pay to Lyft.... Was all this worth $62? I really enjoyed my take out order from this spot! We were in town briefly and staying at a hotel nearby. I tried the Teriyaki Green beans, Strawberry salad with coconut shrimp and shrimp and corn chowder. Each dish was super flavorful and delicious! They have a varied menu with a lot of seafood, but I got the hamburger today with their special sauce. I ordered it rare and it was perfect. The service was superb and the chef and the manager both stopped by our table just to see if everything was going well. That was a pleasant surprise. Finally came over and took our beer order. Unfriendly stone faced waitress. We asked about the steamed shrimp. $14.95 -we assumed was for a half poind. No, that is a quarter pound which equates to around $60 a pound. LOL. This place is a joke. Too bad because the previous establishment at this location, The Conch Republic, was awesome. We paid our bill, $35 for two beers and left. Why pay high prices to be treated poorly and ignored by stone faced unfriendly bartenders. We do not need you. You need us. It was after 9pm the Ambiance was nice. Our waitress was nice, slightly forgetful, but nothing major to ding her on. The Santa side can was pretty good (too much ice) but you know... it was tasty and it came in that nice tree glass cup. The crab dip was pretty decent it's a very small portion so if you are looking for something fulfilling then that's not it. Order something else, but these tacos everything was fresh!!!! The sauce is good!!! 10/10 for me!!! This dessert tasted like it was slightly freezer-burned. It was okay it should have way more brownie than just crust. The brownie tasted old, and I was skeptical about the ice cream, because I really don't like coconut like that, but that was actually the best part of the entire thing. Had dinner here with my husband on Memorial Day. We picked this spot because it was right by the water and had a nice view of the sunset. The vibes and service were good. We were seated and got our orders in pretty quickly. I thought the food was average for the price. The pina colada ($14) I ordered was more melted than slushy by the time I got it. We also got the shareable shrimp platter ($24.95) and crispy calamari ($15.95). The garlic butter shrimp and coconut shrimp were good, but I thought the old bay shrimp and calamari were too salty. Absolutely batsh*t interaction with Allie, the general manager recently. (Long and detailed rant incoming.) We were seated at a table that we had moved to for the umbrella. About 75% through the meal, Allie (Ally, Alley, who cares really) came over and started messing with the umbrella behind us. After a minute, she introduced herself as the general manager, says there's something wrong with it and she needs to close it. I say (in no way confrontationally) "oh, we moved here for the shade." Which seems like a very reasonable answer to "I need to close this umbrella." The look on her face immediately switched to an "are you an idiot?" look and she says "this is unsafe, as the manager of this restaurant, if this is unsafe, I need to close it." I'm not sure if she was having a bad day, but it was really out of nowhere. So we said "well, we're almost done," thinking we'll just get up and head out. Once again, she was completely condescending out of nowhere and acted like we were being confrontational. It was SO ODD. Then it gets weirder. We say "ok, where would you like us to go?" Her response?? "Well I don't have a table for you yet, honey." All righty... Amazingly, the umbrella that was SO unsafe, she leaves it in the condition she found it and walks away for 3-4 minutes. If it's so unsafe, why are you walking away and leaving it that way? She comes back, silently grabs our appetizer and walks toward a different table. So confused, we grab our waters and follow her over, leaving half of a $20 pineapple cocktail sitting on the table, ASSUMING she's going to bring it over. As you can imagine, that didn't happen. And we watched that table get cleared. Our server, who was LOVELY, came over and we said "hey, we assumed that cocktail was going to be brought over and it disappeared." She apologized profusely and said she would take care of it. Next thing you know, Allie come sauntering over and with an indignation I've personally never seen before says "I was told we threw away your cocktail. I'll be happy to bring you a free one." Those words seem innocuous and accommodating enough, but that's because you weren't witness to the absolutely bonkers condescending look on her face as the words dribbled out of her mouth. At this point, I say "I don't really want a free cocktail, I just want the one that we were planning on paying for. And to be frank, I really don't understand why this entire interaction has been so confrontational." She decided that the right move at that moment was to explain to me that she's "just trying to run a restaurant, and she's been with the company for 24 years." I say "that's great, but your communication skills are horrible. At no point in our entire visit were we ever confrontational, argumentative, or anything of the sort. Her attitude was absolutely bananas from the get-go, with zero provocation. This is not a "the customer always lies" situation. This is a "what the everloving hell just happened" situation. Which was what we were asking each other as we left. We were beside ourselves with confusion. I must have asked her three or four times why the interaction was so confrontational, only to be met (ironically) with anger. Never in my life have I ever had such a deranged interaction like that with someone in the service industry. Just absolutely flabbergasted. read more
