    1 Snack & Fries

I saw this place on tik tok and told myself I would stop by and visit the next time I was in Richmond. My son had a basketball tournament, and this was the perfect time to stop by. I pulled into the parking lot and this place has a unique setup. All the tables are outside similar to checkers. The place looks like it belongs in a dessert or South of the Boarder based on the color which is odd as well. They take your orders at the walk-up window. When I originally arrived, I didn't see much business but while I waited for my food the cars were pouring in left and right. My hopes for the food increased. There is a menu on the outside that is somewhat difficult to read and navigate. A ton of options with some whopping prices. I ended up ordering the 1 Snack and Fries. I wanted something good but also light as I had another place in Richmond I wanted to try. $14.99 seemed good until I saw this bogus, Local meals tax on top of the state sales tax. This caught me off guard. I ended up waiting in my car for about 20 minutes and later heard my name called over the microphone. The gentleman showed me the food, and it was 3 large pieces of fish. The fish was delicious. The fish was Cooked well, and I could taste the flavor. Way more than I expected. Tartar sauce elevated the flavor. The fires were piping hot and good as well. I wish I had some ketchup, but they were still good. I loved that they were salted but if I had high blood pressure I should have stayed away. You can see the salt on the fries. They were good to me. Overall if I were in Richmond again, I'd definitely stop. The food was good. I would definitely try more options. The customer service was good. The cashier and food distributor were on their A game. Outside could use some love and care but it is what it is.

One word - STUFFED. This sandwich was huge. I barely finished the fries and made it halfway through the sandwich. It was well seasoned. It could've been fried harder for my taste but it was definitely a 10/10

I've heard so much about the price and wait time, but I had the best experience. I went on a Monday evening and from placing my order to pick up was 11 minutes. Delicious made to order food. I love the cocktail sauce. Yes, it's a little expensive, but worth it. Ralph provided super customer service and made my first experience memorable. Nice abundant outdoor seating. The tables were clean and the vibe was chill.

Well I'm kicking myself for not trying this place long ago. Today's visit was great. Walk-up window for placing orders. Friendly gentleman taking our order. Me and my bro both ordered the fish and shrimp combos. Mine came with fries and coleslaw, and he got Mac & cheese, fried okra, & cornbread. You get 4 filets and 4 medium/large shrimp. My fish was catfish (up charge) and he got the Whiting. The fish was fried perfectly. Well seasoned. The shrimp were a little lacking in size and less flavorful. Fries were great. My only critique is a bit pricey overall. I got two fountain drinks at $4 a piece. Two meals with a few add-on was $85 for lunch. Plus $8 for drinks.

I finally get to try this Richmond mainstay. There was a slight wait because everything is prepared fresh to order, but the food was tasty and lived up to my expectations. Everything was excellent; the personnel were really amiable and the service was respectable considering that everything is made to order. The atmosphere is wonderful. I appreciate that you can eat outside on the seats while still taking in the views of the downtown area.

Best fried fish in Richmond. I finally had the chance to try the catfish. Did not disappoint. Will forever be a fan of their cornbread. Still not crazy about the lines but hey, when the food is this good, you suck it up.

    Wings, Popcorn Shrimp Platter

I recently visited Sugar's Crab Shack and finally got to try their food! The special combo of wings, popcorn shrimp, toast, and fries for only $19.19!! Along with the snack meal that came with 3 fried fish and buttered toast. I also got the mac and cheese, and bread pudding. Beware that the wait time does take a bit, the food took about half an hour to be ready. But the generous portions made it worth the wait. The workers were also very nice and you could tell how passionate they were about the food. The popcorn shrimp and fried fish were pretty good. But the mac and cheese could use a bit more flavor, I could mostly just taste cheese. But the fries--wow! They were super big, thick like wedges, and extra crispy, adding a great texture. The bread pudding was just okay since i'm not a huge fan of raisins, but overall, it tasted like French toast if you're into that. Despite the wait, my overall experience was great. You get a ton of food for an amazing price!

2pc catfish and fries special $10.75

Friday 3/22/2024 This spot right here is a black owned restaurant that absolutely gets it RIGHT. I got the 2pc catfish special $10.75, snack & fries $11.85, and bread pudding $5. Both the fish and the catfish were very good and the tar tar sauce is a great sauce for it. I'm a fan of the fries as they were crispy and seasoned well. The bread pudding was a bit smaller than i expected and it comes with a lemon glaze icing on the side (which it didn't really need but that's just me). The bread pudding smelled amazing and it tasted pretty good as well. I 100% recommend this spot and I would definitely come back if I was ever in the area again.

    Fried fish family meal.

Soon after we. Ordered the octopus and mussel appetizers a storm came in and the rain fell pretty hard. Our choices were to run back to the hotel or stay and dine huddled under an umbrella. Being a little wet with beverages and good food seemed the better option so we ordered more food. The octopus was great. I have tried it prepared many ways and here it was both tender and flavorful, really done well. Shrimp cocktail is usually pretty basic, but often the simplest dishes demonstrate the most skill. This is truly one of the best I have ever had. The shrimp were plump and flavorful. Their cooking stopped at just the right time leaving a slight bit of translucent hue, but still cooked through. Very nicely done. The salad with home ranch was dressed nicely and the dressing was light. The scallops were cooked well and perhaps my only criticism is that the corn purée was better in concept than execution. I can't say enough about the staff. We were two people on a Sunday night crazy enough to dine in a downpour. The staff never made us feel like they wanted to punch out, embraced us being outside and were creative in waiting on us with umbrellas to keep the food from getting wet. It would have been understandable for them to limit the trips to check on us, but they persevered and made us feel welcome. If you are in the area, highly recommended stopping by, rain or shine, and sampling their menu. Nicely done.

Hats off to the staff at Lillian who continue to be wonderful, but now that they have scrapped…read moretheir dollar oyster lunch specials, the food has absolutely nothing to offer. Like too many restaurants in the Scott's Addition area, this is seafood cooked without finesse and then absolutely brutalized with absurd amounts of palate fatiguing, brash, loud flavors. Every item on the menu endeavors to conceal mediocrity in the quality and handling of the ingredients with explosive, overwhelming additives meant to shock you into submission. Things like black garlic and chili oil, raw garlic, sesame seed oil, and punishing heat are inescapable on the menu, which really says to me loud and clear "we do not understand the appeal of seafood, and might have a fundamental misunderstanding about good food in general." I don't exaggerate when I say these dishes would be improved (setting aside things like inability to properly cook octopus) by scaling back the flavors to 5-10% the loudness level they are currently at, to let the ingredients speak, and to make the dining experience less of a punishing marathon with no relief. I have had much subtler and more skillfully balanced dishes at Indian and Thai restaurants, cuisines known for strong flavor profiles. I'm through listening to these Richmond restaurants trying to excuse simply bad food by claiming "that's the nature of the cuisine." In this case, Lillian claims that dishes characterized by these cacophonous competing flavors is "South American." No it isn't - the person conceptualizing the dishes is just a bad chef who doesn't know what he's doing, and at the prices Lillian charges, that's inexcusable. Drowning every dish in flavors that overwhelm the palate is not a way to respect your ingredients or your diner, and only communicates youth and insecurity. Anyone who's eaten widely and knows their ingredients will rightly feel assaulted and insulted by this overpriced, unskilled fare. To anyone who decides to go anyway: Good luck with the digestive distress, and with the taste that will still be left over in your mouth the next morning, no matter how much you brush your teeth.

Very much an old style Italian restaurant but feels like they have really packed the tables in here - like sardines- so yeah it feels a little tight for my tastes. Service was friendly and helpful. (Making the reservation over the phone was not overly warm and fuzzy but hey I get it you probably are tired of having to take reservations over the phone all day lol). We got a popular app- the squid, white bean and arugula which was bright and flavorful so lived up to the hype but a little disappointing in that there was not a lot of squid so $18 for beans and arugula seemed a bit much. Also got the seafood bisque which was pretty tasty. For entrees we got the halibut, the monk fish fra diavolo and the spaghetti with crab meat. The spaghetti with crab meat was shockingly good. It better be for $40 but I don't always like crab bc it can be overly fishy in a not good way but this entree was very good. We also liked the halibut- nice piece of fish perfectly cooked. The MonkFish had a nice flavor, but the bones in it was a little bit overwhelming, and kinda made eating a lot of work. Seemed pricey to me since only one of us had a glass of wine and no other drinks, but I guess $50 a person sans cocktails and dessert is the new norm?!
