Was super excited to get my industrial re-pierced but had to walk out because of their problematic and unprofessional employees. Before I even walked in, I could see the piercer laying down on the chairs (first red flag). During the consultation she was actually knowledgeable, nice, and made me feel comfortable even though she talked me out of re piercing my industrial saying it was an "advanced" piercing. I figured maybe too advanced when she's half asleep so for my own safety I went with my gut feeling and agreed with her simpler suggestion which I was still excited to get: a mid helix. However by the time I got to the front desk- whose only job is to gather the information the piercer gave them and proceed with checkout- the interaction somehow became more painful than getting any piercing done. The employee kept acting extremely puzzled (kept saying "I'm confused" to my answers to her OWN questions)... how is that even possible? Then every time I asked a simple question about jewelry design, it was the same response: "I'm confused", in addition to unnecessary attitude. I've worked with people with actual cognitive delays and it was very obvious this wasn't the case. They just wanted to be difficult for no reason because not only was she acting confused and being rude, she was also talking about me to her coworker which also proceeded to give me attitude and be passive aggressive. I saw one of them come back from talking to the piercer and then all of a sudden the piercer changed her mind and said she could go ahead with the industrial piercing -No thank you! That's when I matched their energy and expressed I wasn't comfortable with their behavior before trusting them with my body and doing something invasive, apologized to the piercer and walked out to that same employee saying " I hope you have a beautiful day". I was indeed having a beautiful day until I walked in and had to deal with their ugly attitude and continued to have a beautiful day as soon as I stepped out. Maybe they need to start embracing beauty into their lives instead of being intimidated by positivity and projecting their frustrations on customers- after all, people get piercings for a variety of positive reasons not because they hate themselves. Maybe try matching the customers energy next time. Respect yourself, your energy and your body and go somewhere where actual professionals won't use you like a guinea pig to project their frustrations, sadism, hate and incompetence on. If this is how they really treat people, let alone potential paying customers, they need to be in a therapist's office, not a piercing shop.

It took a while for me to finally pull the trigger, but when I did, he was able to squeeze me in fairly quickly since it was a pretty small tattoo. Loved his work ethic and the quality of his work. He walked me through the whole process and made sure I loved the weight of the lines and the placement. In the middle of everything, he even recommended that I take a quick breather and drink some water since I started to get really warm during the process. (I had no idea your body temp can fluctuate as a reaction to getting a tattoo.) When my tattoo was done, I really appreciated that he talked through the care process thoroughly. Love my tattoo! It's exactly what I wanted and that means a lot to me!

The front desk was super nice and helped me pick out my jewelry and fill out my forms. Lylia was my piercer and she was incredibly nice and walked me through everything. The actual piercing probably took less than 90 seconds and the whole appointment from door to door was about 20 minutes. I will definitely be back if I decide to get any more and will definitely be asking for Lylia again.

DO NOT GET PIERCED HERE. I got my first piercings here (double lobes), and within a month my right…read moreear swelled so severely that the skin completely grew over the piercing. I reached out for advice immediately but before they had gotten back, the skin had already grown over my earrings. As I am a student and can't afford to go to the ER, I had no choice but to rip the earring out of my ear through brute force. It was very traumatic, but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt as someone did reply to my text two hours after I had ripped the piercing out and the piercer had not been in that day. However, a month later, the exact same thing happened to my right ear. This happened despite me cleaning my piercings twice a day and never changing the jewelry. This time, I removed the backing so that the front part of the earring could hang as far away from my skin as possible. The pain was so bad I couldn't sleep at night. The piercer must have made the earrings too tight which allowed my skin to heal over them instead of in between the front and the backing. I messaged them again asking for help, followed up multiple times, and have now gone over a week without any response. I understand that complications can happen with piercings, but completely ignoring a client who is experiencing a potentially serious issue is unacceptable. Proper aftercare includes being available to advise clients when problems arise. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise to steer clear of this shop. I have attached pictures of my piercings for reference and screenshots of our conversation.

I've gone to Chitown Tattoo for three tattoos and my nose piercing. I'm writing this review about my latest tattoo. As for my other two tattoos, they were simple, black and relatively small and I had no problems with the tattoo healing process or with the tattoo artists it's just those prior experiences were pretty easy, I went in and was out within an hour. This past Friday, January 4th, my boyfriend and I walked in around 7pm in the hopes of getting our tattoos done. My boyfriend wanted to get the Star of David on his tricep. I went in with a pretty vague idea of a framed owl for my ribcage. My boyfriend's tattoo was straighforward but I did feel it was a smidgen pricey, $120 for a 3"x3" Star of David. I get that it had a lot of straight lines, but it took less than 45 minutes. It was done by Sean and it was perfect. Sean was funny and kept up a great convo with the BF which I think helped him with getting his first tattoo- ever! Anywho, I asked Dave to take a look at the pic I brought and make it more awesome. He came back within 30 minutes with an original piece sketched out. I loved it. After placing the stencil and laying on my side on the table, I was good to go. But after an hour, I wanted to die. I didn't expect the ribcage to be so sensitive and was close to tears or just straight crying the whole time. Dave was gentle, he gave me breaks when I asked and didn't get impatient at all, which I really appreciated. When I was close to quitting he did make sure to tell me it would cost more to finish (new needles, new ink, etc...) and persuaded me to keep going. "You're almost done, this is gonna look great, I'm so excited to see the finished product..." I stayed and I'm glad I did. My body art is beautiful. As for all these negative reviews- seems to me this Bill Bumps guy needs to be avoided. I have never been charged more than $30 for a piercing or a small tattoo here. And when I did get "luctor et emergo" i was charged $5 per letter which seems more than reasonable. The guys I met were helpful, funny, and super talented. It was an awesome experience and I will be hitting Dave back up when I'm healed and ready for my thigh tat. Ask for Dave or Sean- you won't be disappointed. read more

I pass by this shop every morning on the way to work, and on the way home... I have never stopped in there (and frankly had no intentions to do so) until last night. I went in there with a friend to help her purchase new nose rings. We both had some questions about fixing existing tats. Let me just say this was THE best experience I have ever had at a tattoo shop! Jerry greeted us, and asked us what we needed to have done. I then showed him the infamous crappy wrist tat I got a year ago. The lettering was all faded, and looked like it said STELL instead of what it was really supposed to say (STEEL). Jerry looked at it, and immediately told me what the problem was, and how he could fix the tat. Funny thing is he was the first artist to NOT tell me it couldn't be fixed. He asked if I wanted it done last night, and I pretty much himmed and hawed... I figured I would come back in a couple weeks for the work. I perused through his portfolio for a bit, and was immediately impressed with ALL of his work. Sometimes when you see an artist's portfolio you don't get a sense of what they are best at - but in this case, ALL of Jerry's work was amazing! He even mentioned that he draws almost every single sketch!! I was impressed, and knew this was the man for the job (and for my future work too). He finished up my friend's tat (which by the way looks BEAUTIFUL after the hack job she first got), and started on mine. Jerry, if you read this, I cannot thank you enough for the gorgeous job!!!! I am in love with the way you fixed my existing tat! Not only was my original idea recaptured, but it was recaptured correctly, and at a fair price. ChiTown Tattoo is a GREAT shop, and a non-pressure environment. I am so happy I decided to spend the money and get my work done by Jerry. They definitely have a repeat customer for a long time coming! Thank you for making my STEEL tat look fantastic!!! read more

Getting a tattoo for the first time can be quite nerve-wrecking! But as soon as I walked into the shop, I could feel the good vibes and I knew I was in the right place. Me and my cousin were greeted very warmly by employees and were treated very well. At this shop, they do everything they can to accommodate you and make sure everything is perfect and that you feel comfortable. The paperwork was quick and easy to fill out, hassle-free! We came in around 10:20 and shortly after, we were consulting with the artists on our sketches! My tattoo was a simple quote "trust without borders". I had the honor of having Dave as my tattoo artist, and I LOVED everything about my experience at chitown tattoo. We worked on the font and size and style of my tattoo and once it was done, it looked better than I had even imagined and I was impressed. I wasn't even inked yet, and I absolutely loved how perfect my stencil was. The atmosphere at this place is amazing, so positive and clean. The actual tattooing process was not as bad as I thought it would be. Dave took really good care of me and was very talkative and friendly while I was freaking out because it was my first tattoo! But the pain wasn't that bad and it was worth it, in the end I was soooo satisfied! After we finished, Dave explained in detail how to take care of my tattoo and clean it etc.. I clouldn't have had a more perfect experience. Honestly, I visited a bunch of tattoo places searching for the perfect combination of a great staff, awesome environment, and talent level and Chitown tattoo takes the cake. Everything about this place was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who was looking to get tattooed and have an enjoyable experience. You guys are sick! Yelp was kind enough to filter my last review so I will try again. I went in to purchase some new piercings and left happier then I've been in a long time. After my purchase, which was very reasonably priced by the way, I asked if there was anything that could be done to correct a tattoo gone wrong that was on my ankle. It was an uneven mess and I HATED it, and I was told by several other tattoo shops that it could not be correct or improved. The shop manager introduced me to Jerry (he is an AWESOME artist) he had me take a seat in his chair and after examining my eyesore of a tat he started to draw on my ankle, within 15 minutes he had drawn out a brand new tat. I was ecstatic it looked amazing the additions he made corrected the mistakes in my original tat I couldn't believe my eyes. Then he told me how much it would cost, so now I couldn't believe my ears it was an extremely fair price. I was sold and he did my tat on the spot and it is gorgeous. Jerry's work is phenomenal, we even discussed my future back piece, which he sketched out for me and it looked amazing, he is the first person to capture the image I saw in my head, I plan on getting that done next month. My girl friend who was with me through all of this was so impressed with Jerry's work that she also had one of her tats revamped. I can't thank Jerry enough for doing what I was told was impossible, I am extremely happy with my experience at Chi-Town Tattoo, and will continue to go there for all my future tats. The parlor is attitude-free, the staff is very friendly, it's clean and well-maintained, you will receive a high quality tattoo for a very reasonable price. DONT GO THERE. IF YOU DO - DONT GO TO JESUS. Extremely bad service. Jesus overcharged me for a super easy black color tattoo. Was waiting for them for an hour also. After the job was done - my tattoo was healing for almost 2 months. 2 months, Carl!! I don't know wtf is the ink that they put in you, but that shit wasn't ok. It comes out with tons of empty spots that needed a touch up. So I called 3 times until in a week and a half after Jesus called me back and scheduled an appointment. 2 hours before it he called me and canceled because "he forgot that he have another peraon on that time". Ok, rescheduled for the next week 6pm.I come in there, 5.45 do all the paperwork (for no actual reason), 2 more girls are coming to the place. He picks them over me, even though I had a fucking appointment with a guy, they came after me and my work would have literally take 2 minutes. He takes them, I wait another 15 minutes, they are gone, he walks to me relaxed and shit. I'm like "dude, wtf?". "oh, they had a small tattoo". I'm like "so? I had an appointment, I have places to be and shit". He's like "hey, its 16 minutes only, Im doing it for free". "Yeah, you are doing it for free because you couldn't do a simpliest tattoo from the first try,ITS A FUCKING TOUCH-UP". Anyway. Shitty place, Shitty attitude from everyone. Unreasonably high prices, shitty ink. No fucking way I'm going into that pit again. And hope you don't either. read more

i had a bad experience with the tattoo before (when i was 14th), and i was kinda afraid to do it again, but yesterday i did)) LOL)) i did it!!! i was a little worried about the Chi Town Tattoo services after reading all this reviews here on yelp.com, but do you know: NO RISK - NO REWARD!!! i was there yesterday, everybody was nice, positive, funny)) i just enjoyed being there: the music, the design, people, attitude.. i can't say anything about doing piercings there, because that i do by myself, but my friend, who was there with me yesterday, did there his piercings for 4 or 5 time, and every time was good.. i did 3 really small tattoos yesterday, nothing impressive, but something really special for me (that just the beginning), and that's was some kind of checking if it's a good place for.. and they charge me for all of them just $100 (when actually i was expecting to pay more than that - NICE!) my tattoos were made by Sean, and, do he want it or not - he's gonna be my personal tattoo master.. LOL, because i'm gonna came back there for my next tattoos, and i'd like him to do all of them, i trust him - he looks smart wearing glasses))) i'm kidding! he looks smart all the time! SERVICE: I just got my doubles here and I love them! The service was amazing: my mom and I's piercer was Alan, and he was very patient when I asked multiple times to adjust the piercing placement and when my mom was very nervous. He guided us calmly and with an assurance that demonstrated his experience, knowledge, and character. The other staff by the front directed us thru the process of signing the waivers and answered our questions abt our IDs transparently. PLACE: The place was overall very calm (but I did come in on a Monday at noon) and lowkey; there's two separate spacious areas for tattoos and piercings, and both are decorated beautifully with artwork, gorgeous jewelry displays, and mood lightning. The place was also very clean and the layout was organized in a way that was efficient/easy to navigate. ANY NEGATIVES: The one thing that is a small downside is that there are only 2 options of simple studs that they can pierce you with; which suggests that everything else they have isn't necessarily implant grade/body safe for all/hypoallergenic. But to me, it wasn't any inconvenience. Overall amazing experience! :) read more

beware of this place!! Jake your tattoo artist called me from his cell phone on thurs, I set an appt with him for sat nite at 6pm. I showed up at 6 pm only to be told that he never set an appt with me, said he didint remember!! I drove 2 hours to get there and my daughter drove 3 hours from wisconsin to get there!! WAnted to know what kind of tattoos we wanted, now I know 2 days is pretty far apart, but really|?? Then he said leave a 50 dollar deposit and come back on the 26th and he would do the work and respond by email.. YEA RIGHT!! I AM that stupid!! Beware of this place!! I Called back only to be told by Steve, that the owners name is Steve also but he doesnt know his last name, lmfao, really? I thought from the ratings that I have seen on this site set you above the other idiots, but, I WAS Wrong!! I own my own business also, and have for 13 years, I Wish I could treat my customers this way and continue to sleep at night... I just had another amazing tattoo done by Damon, and oh my gosh it is the the best work I've ever had. I went in last year for a cover up very skeptical about it and Damon did an excellent job covering it up. I love the fact I can give an artist a basic idea and give them free reigns on making something look so spectacular. There were many parts of the session where I thought I was done only to find out no we are not done because of the attentiveness to details. Down to the very millimeter of shading. I hands down recommend ChiTown tattoo to anyone looking for their first tattoo to needing a sleeve or a difficult cover up. And that's not all! While I was there I also had the privilege of speaking to James and other staff members and they are so personable and can relate in many ways, I always feel welcome and never intimidated or feel uncomfortable being in the shop. So I went to the shop last night with my cousin for a quick piercing and out of the handful of times i've been there this was the first nice experience. There was a long wait but the girl up in front was super nice to us and checked on us a bunch of times apologizing for the wait and letting us know how much longer until we were seen. She was very friendly which was a first because usually the girls up front are total dick heads. Anyways the best part of the trip was the piercer Christian. I've gotten 4 piercings there and each time the piercer was a crab acting like it was a hassle to take the time out and do it. Christian was super cool, super nice and professional. He made us feel very comfortable and you can tell he's super passionate about what he does. Both my cousin and I highly recommend getting a piercing from him if you ever choose to get one from ChiTown. I see this guy going far with his work because of his passion and knowledge. I went to get a tattoo at Chitown tattooing from Steve my dog passed away I had a portrait of him with me and I asked Steve can you tattoo the portrait of my dog that passed away and my calf his name is Capone it's a standard poodle he says yes I will make it look exactly like him I paid a quite a bit of money for it the tattoo looks like shit I called to get a refund and all that they were rude I called back and they were rude they told me that he was fired he was a little drunk when he did my tattoo I would never go to this place ever again and I recommend Chicagoland area to stay away from this place they do not do great tattoos it meant so much to me to get this tattoo done and they screwed the whole thing up so I pleats you guys just to stay away from this place I don't know what else to say about Chitown tattoo but I recommend not to go there. I absolutely love Chitwon Tattoo! I have 3 pieces done from them and they are exquisite! Artists are creative if you are looking for an original piece which one of mine is. Great attitude and atmosphere. Extremely clean and respectful. You go to some places and there is screaming and swearing and drinking...DEFINITELY NOT AT CHITOWN! CLASSY AS IT GETS! Krazy Tom does an awesome job. Owner is also really involved in shop and customer care. I have Diabetes and they are very caring and helpful when it comes to the tattoo-ing itself as well as the healing process. Free t-shirts with your work is also a cute gift which you do not get in many places. Friendly atmosphere and conversation during the process, yet a professionalism I have not seen at any other tattoo shop I have visited in the city. I have 4 other pieces from various places in Chicago and nothing compares. Stop by and check it out it will most definitely be worth your time!!! read more

Growing up i have always wanted a piercing for my nose, i have been battling stage 3 cancer for almost a year and piercings and tattoos were an absolute no from my doctors, i am now cancer free and i always happened to see chi town shop coming from the hospital, i walked in and was instantly greeted by i assume was the owner or someone high in charge, he talked to me very sweetly and cracked many jokes which made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. I brought my birth certificate and was with my mom but didn't own an i.d because i am 16 and they said it was fine and didn't make me come for nothing which i appreciated! The wait was less than 10 minutes, only filled about a page of information and had my nose cleaned and pierced, it looks so amazing and i am happy with my results, a little pricer than other places but you do get what you pay for! Chi Town tattoo is the best tattooing and piercing spot i have ever been to. For example i wanted to get a foot tat and at first i went to jade dragon, for a little tattoo they wanted to charge me 120$, So obviously i left. Later on in the evening i came across chi town ink and went in expecting the worst. Turns out they don't over price and did my amazing colored tattoo for half the price jade dragon was trying to get me to do. After the tattoo was finished Krazy Tom ( who by the way is the best tattoo artist around along with his amazing wife, who also does spectacular colored tattoos) showed me how to take care of the tattoo and took the time to check up on me and see how it was heeling.. I am now a lifetime client of Joy and krazy Tom. They are more like family , then just random tattoo artists. P.S they have great parking. Cant find that anywhere else!! read more

Took my 16 year old daughter in to get her lip pierced tonite. Chuch greeted us right away when we came in the door and was very cool to her and I both. He had us fill out the proper paperwork and then took us back to do the piercing. Chuck was very thorough with explaining a lip piercing to my daughter as well as myself. The actual piercing process took only a few minutes but my daughter was very comfortable and felt no pain. He was very caring and gentle with her making sure she was OK the whole way through. Afterwards, I talked to him about getting a new tattoo for myself and he was very thorough as well. I will for sure be going back to him to get my tattoo done. I felt very comfortable with him and he was for sure very knowledgeable. I would reccomend Chuck at ChiTown ink to anyone. read more

I came into this place to get a dermal. I received a dermal from the piercer Steve Bennett he was friendly knew what he was doing and most importantly good. I went back two weeks later to change end as well as get two more dermals.Upon arrival was informed Steve was no longer there.After asking where he went they told me they didnt know. So i went ahead and got my dermals done. Worst experience yet. they did it completely different then Steve did and it took twice as long and hurt three times as much. one week later one dermal has already fallen out and the other is infected. I did some research and found Steve at a small shop on Clark and Montrose Mastermind ink. I will stick with him from now on no matter where he moves to. read more

I can't say enough good things about this establishment. I have been a customer of theirs on 3 separate occasions. Each time they were very thorough with their consultation with me. They were patient with my questions and took as much time as they needed to understand the kind of work I wanted to put on my body. Getting a tattoo is a semi permanent decision and Chi Town Tat does not take that lightly. All the artists are professional, friendly, very sanitary, and seem to make all the other customers feel comfortable. I would recommend this place to anyone getting their first tat or their 100th. I'm not exactly sure why this tattoo shop averages at 3.5 stars. It's the only place we ever go. I love it here. I feel the artists are professional, clean and very reasonably priced. If you're complaining about $200 being too much for a few additions, stop and think about the living other people need to make, and more importantly, they are ARTISTS! They are worth that price and probably more. As a photographer (artist myself) it pains me to read bad reviews based on price. If it's too expensive for you, maybe you shouldn't be splurging on tattoos in the first place. It's hard to put a price on art, and this place does and it's very reasonable. I had a tattoo design drawn by one of my artistic friend. I checked quite a few shops before deciding to go with Chitown Tattoo. Not only I liked a price they gave me. I liked the price for a wonderful work they did! This tattoo took me a lot of time to complete the process. First the drawing, than deciding which shop, and than working up my guts to get a tattoo. Bill was my artist and he helped me with my decisions. Great artist, beautifil, super clean shop, very proffesional staff. I first got my tongue pierced by Wes who works here and he did it totally wrong!!i do not recommend Wes at all. After going through all the swelling it wasn't infected but the way it was pierced was incorrect and I had to remove it. I was very upset but another piercer there told me I could get it redone and helped make this experience better.If you are looking to get a piercing go to Christian because he actually has a higher standard for his piercings and will make sure it's done right!! He's also really cool and he will help you with any questions before or after your piercing. I highly recommend and encourage to get a piercing done by him!!! read more

I first came in for a consultation and then returned about a month later for the actual piercing. Jeff walked me through the process, explained everything, and made me feel comfortable. We chatted the entire time, which says a lot because I'm not naturally a super chatty person. The piercing healed beautifully, and I kept the original jewelry in for almost five years. May 2026 | Jewelry Change / Replacement (2 stars) Fast forward to May 2026, I bumped my nose at work and my jewelry fell out. I had already been wanting to switch out my jewelry, so I figured this was the universe giving me a reason. I booked a same-day appointment online, which was super convenient. This visit, however, felt like a completely different experience. The front desk staff member greeted me, but the interaction felt disengaged and not particularly welcoming from the start. I was explaining what happened and mentioning that I'd had my original jewelry in since 2021. While she kindly offered to place my old jewelry in a baggie, which I appreciated, the overall interaction felt very transactional rather than consultative. I specifically asked for recommendations for everyday, long-term wear jewelry because I don't plan on changing it often. I also asked about rose gold for everyday wear, hoping for a little guidance from someone who works with jewelry every day. The response I got was basically, "Why not?" It came across dismissive rather than helpful. The jewelry explanation itself felt confusing, and the interaction overall felt very blah. I'm warm and jokey by nature, so maybe I notice energy more than most, but boutique experiences, especially piercing studios, should feel a little more welcoming and consultative. I wasn't expecting over-the-top bubbly, but I was expecting someone who seemed interested in helping me choose jewelry I'd likely be wearing for years. I almost walked out, honestly. I stayed because Jeff ended up installing the new jewelry. But overall, the visit didn't feel great, and I left disappointed considering how positive my original experience had been. I still tipped, force of habit , but I walked away feeling like the service didn't match the experience I remembered from Luxe. Customer experience matters, especially in a boutique setting where people are trusting you with body jewelry and looking for guidance.

I have been wanting to swap out a piece of jewelry and get a post shortened. I stopped in but luckily they take walk-ins when they're not terribly busy and it was pretty quiet. Most of my time here was spent making a decision rather than waiting, even though they did have a couple appointments, so they work pretty quickly. This shop is immaculate. As with any reputable piercing shop, the place is super sterile. They have a small selection of jewelry but the pieces are nice. Although you'll need to go to a different shop for a much larger selection, they have more than just "starter jewelry", which I always appreciate. They also have a few price points represented so you can find something relatively inexpensive or something much higher end. The staff were professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. Even though I was going back and forth about my choice, the employee running the front desk was really patient. There was a customer who came in with an appointment for piercing so the staff member went to help her for a while and left me to ponder my choices. Mina is the one who swapped out my nostril piercing and shortened the post in my tragus, which has been long overdue (I got it pierced in February 2020 and then we all know what happened) and it looks and feels a lot better now. I'm pretty adamant about only ever using a professional piercer for my piercings or any my daughter may want in the future, and I'm glad that they're members of the Association of Professional Piercers here. If or when I get another piercing, I'd definitely consider coming here. Parking is on the street only, and it's probably best to make an appointment since you never know when a place will be busy.
