My family makes attempts at staying in old hotels everywhere we go. It didn't disappoint. Central location and friendly atmosphere. Beds are comfortable. Plumbing needs a complete overhaul but so do most historic hotels. It was fun. Seems to attract a lot of Cigarette smokers outside which makes its way into the halls but not the rooms. Didn't try the dining hall as so many choices nearby. The gun fight was entertaining. Everything was so close. Great parking even with a longer vehicle. I'll stay at the Irma every time we hit town from now on. read more

So it's a solid 4 stars. We go up to Cody once or twice a year. This time stayed at the Irma, two historic double queen rooms (14 and 33 I think). Hotel wise - well the rooms are fine - really 3 and a half stars - but remember what and where it is - right downtown. Not perfect but plenty fine. Food wise - quite reasonable and very good selection and open till 10pm - so long trips back from park you still have a good chance to get food. All the food was perfectly fine and good value. Prime rib was great. Ribs great. Breakfast great. Burgers Great. We ate there four times in two days/nights. Here again really three stars. Bar downstairs is great, grab a few drinks and hang out on the porch - or the bar. Reasonable prices - actually cheap compared to SF bay area - like 40% less or more. Good bar, three stars. Parking - no issue. 5 stars right at hotel. It's Cody - don't expect a valet - LOL. Very safe town and hotel. Location - 5 stars - right where you want to be in Cody. Value for rooms - very good for Cody. So overall three stars+ each on the hotel, restaurant and bar - more for location. But all in the same place - totally 4 star place and really there is no 5 star lodging in Cody. We will return without hesitation. Enjoy. read more

We did not stay at the hotel, but the food and service was horrible. Waited over an hour and a half for our food, once it was delivered, the food was cold and did not even bring everything out we ordered. Waitress never checked on us, refilled drinks, etc. Horrible experience. Would not even recommend to my worst enemy. read more

They use the excuse of being an old hotel to get away with not providing amenities such as a luggage cart. We took our grandmother and great-aunt because we thought they'd enjoy the nostalgia of the hotel but instead it was just dark and felt dirty. Be warned if you get a first floor room there are no windows or historic toilets, etc. It was like being in a basement. We felt bad having our family stay there. Our other room was on the 2nd floor and looked like the pics on their website but clean-it did not feel like it. Very disappointing after we've seen other historic hotels along the way that were ran and up-kept much better. We bought seats for the "show" that they do every evening and everyone in our party agreed it was not good. The actors handed the kids coupons for t-shirt shops and took time to go over their sponsers that were nearby stores. It wasn't done well but left the impression of a money grab. read more

Dining at the Irma is quite an experience. As a tourist, we ate in the main dining room which is, of course, a big old room with tall ceilings filled with trophy animal heads and lots of western paraphernalia. It was all interest to look at, but seemed "tired".) The servers were pleasant, attentive and local. (Nice to come to Cody and not be served by someone from LA.) The food was better than average. Certainly dining at the Irma is a must when you go to Cody, but I'd not make it my regular haunt. read more

We've been coming here for the delicious buffet for years, but this is our first review. If I had reviewed it the first, or even second or third time we ate here, it would have been at least four, if not five stars. However, with this most recent visit, it is clear that the quality has fallen off a bit. The salad bar, which was honestly one of the best I'd been to, is missing half the ingredients which used to be included. The ones that were present on this visit were fresh and very good, though. The fettuccini Alfredo was pretty tasteless and gloppy, sadly. The shining example of the buffet was the prime rib, which was delicious and flavorful, as always. We also ate the breakfast buffet, as we stayed in the hotel overnight (which was clean and wonderful, by the way!). I'd happily eat breakfast here every day. This meal I'd highly recommend! The service was very good and the historic atmosphere will bring us back. Just hoping the average food was an anomaly. We'll see! read more

I was looking for a good restaurant after landing in Cody and was immediately drawn to this place. Located on the "main strip" in Cody, WY, this restaurant/hotel is what I had envisioned when coming to Wyoming and eating at a place that is over 100 years old. The interior has a real nice comfy western feel to it and the staff are very hospitable. This places oozes history. In addition to being the most historic hotel in town, the Irma also offers a real nice lunch buffett with about 15 or so different western style dishes. There is no doubt that you will find something that you will like including an all you can eat prime rib. If there is one thing the folks at the Irma know is how to cook red meat. Meh. I didn't all-out hate this place, but it wasn't as impressive as the glossy magazines would have you believe. Upon arriving at this hotel (we were only here for a gander and some dinner), we found ourselves confused as to where the eatery actually was. There are picnic benches on one side of the hotel where many people were dining--and there was a menu on the exterior wall, but I'm not certain where the food was coming from or how to order it. We went to the other side of the building and found one tiny door along a mile long wall and entered. Ah, ok--this must be the place. It was a little busy and some girl seated us. After looking at the menu we all decided on the buffet (their "famous" prime rib was featured). The dining room consists of booths along the wall and many four person tables in the middle of the room. Unfortunately the tables are kinda crammed in and not really organized, making the trek back and forth to the buffet a little embarassing (because you have to squeeze past other diners with your heeps of food). First stop was the salad bar--and I was not really happy about it. See, the buffet area is not composed of the the traditional built-in buffet tables but rather chafing dishes and Sternos. The salad "cart" was a pathetic sight, as the sneeze guard plastic was so scratched and buffed up that you had to bend to peer under the thing just to see the ingrediants. Worse, though, was the fact that the lighting was so dim that the lettuce appeared brown. I never figured out if it was or wasn't because the whole place is dark. The saving grace of this buffet was the crusty old cowboy behind the buffet bar. He was a kick in the pants while describing food and you could tell that, despite his decrepit state, he could kick any young cowboys ass in the place. All in all the food wasn't horrible, the service didn't make me want to kill anyone, but it isn't something I would return to. Total bill was just about $90 (three adults, one kid). read more

We booked a "standard" (as in not a historic) room for $85. We got a spacious (OK, big), super clean room. Beds were excellent! Add a good WiFi connection, flatscreen TV, coffeemaker, bath and the whole Buffalo Bill thing and here's 4 stars..... why 3 stars above this raving review? Make sure to avoid rooms 70-75 on the 2nd floor: they are located above the kitchen. Sounds like construction site (incl. blasting radio) till late. We called the frontdesk at about 10:45 PM and at least they had them turn off the radio. Good thing we had to get up before sunrise anyways otherwise the kichen crew would have been our alarm. What really bothers me is the attitude about it, no apology no nothing. The facts that you sell rooms above your kitchen in the first place, your staff doesn't consider the GUESTS above them and not even a glimpse of an apology shows total disrespect of your guests. read more

This is for the restaurant only: Wow! Don't know where to start. In Cody for a family reunion and stopped here for dinner before the rodeo (didn't think I'd ever say those words together). Went for the buffet against my better judgement and it was what I expected. The salad bar was seemingly thrown together to offset the meat bomb that was around the corner. I went for the red skinned mashed potatoes and brown gravy, a slab of the prime rib and some cod in lemon butter. Potatoes weren't too bad but the gravy tasted right out of the pouch mixed with water. The prime rib was a big piece but was pretty tough compared to all prime rib I've had previously. The cod was another thing. They must have thought it needed to be in its natural habitat by keeping it submerged in liquid (butter sauce). Overall was concerned by the temporary setup of the buffet but they seem to have it down to a "science". Yes we are tourists in Cody, most from the city but it's really not that hard to put out a decent product. But then again, knowing most of your guests won't be back, why worry? read more

Buffalo Bill's Irma Hotel Est 1902: Definitely a tourist stop but found it very good. Nothing Fancy, very casual. We are not buffet fans so we ordered the Prime Rib from the menu. The small cut is thin and hard to get at medium to medium rare. The larger cut was thicker and came out fine. Either way, the taste was superb. Not too pricey. I would recommend it for the history and pretty good Prime Rib, their specialty. Service was great. Limited wine list. Ordered a bottle California Sonoma County Zinfandel at $25 and was very pleased. We ate dinner there and it was decent. There was nothing over-the-top amazing about the food. When we walked in we were seated right away. It took about 15 minutes for the waiter to notice us and when she did she said she would wait us in a minute but then we had to wait another 10 minutes or so. The food was decent and one of the burgers wasn't cooked all the way. Overall, it's a great historical site but I wouldn't recommend the food. read more

My wife and I came to visit for our anniversary, and overall our experience was good. There were some people who worked here that provided an exceptional experience, and unfortunately some who provided a poor experience. We arrived Friday June 19th, and the the person working the Front Desk, Kenny, was polite, friendly, and fun. He helped give us some great ideas on how to enjoy the area and some places we should see. He's definitely a great part of the Irma Staff. We decided to have a couple drinks and an appetizer prior to exploring the town for the night so we went to the Irma Restaurant. We first went into the bar area and had a seat, yet the bartender didn't acknowledge us for a long period, so we opted for the dining room instead. The hostess greeted and sat us, yet our server Tana, didn't arrive for nearly 10 minutes. I would've understood the delay if it was busy; however, there were a couple other waitstaff and only a few tables. We ordered drinks, they came, and one of the glasses was severely chipped on the rim. A few minutes later, we ordered appetizers and we were told one wasn't available so she offered an alternative. After ordering, she came out about five to ten minutes later and said the other appetizer we had ordered was out of stock as well. For a Friday night, the kitchen seemed unprepared and hadn't ordered correctly. Once the food was brought out, Tana didn't attempt to ask us how anything was, but merely came back to collect payment. She left a negative impression on us. The bedroom we stayed in was comfortable. We had the Simpson room, king size bed on the corner. The bed was pleasant and overall a good night sleep. The next morning we opted for breakfast in the dining room again, and our server Tammy was amazing. The host sat us quickly, and told us Tammy would be right over. Tammy was prompt and funny, and just a genuinely good person. She joked around, recommended some things, and made our experience enjoyable. She's definitely a keeper. Tammy and Kenny are definitely keepers. They share a passion for making sure the experience is great. Tana did not make a great experience. read more

I had a buffalo burger while my friend had a steak salad. The buffalo burger seemed a little too pink- which I was disappointed with. The fries were very crispy and delicious- portions here are big enough. We got the Rocky Mountain Oysters as an appetizer but were disappointed. Batter was a little burned and the meat was a little more chewy than normal, ask for cocktail sauce vs horseradish if you prefer. If you are looking for a good set of Oysters I suggest going to Cassie's instead. read more

We walked down the Sheridan Avenue restaurant strip and ended up in this place, which was decorated all "western." The place was packed and the menu consisted of the usual items you'd expect in such a place. We ordered nachos as an appetizer and salads as entrees. Unfortunately our salads arrived almost at the same time as the appetizer. Service was impersonal but briskly efficient. The nachos were nothing special and seemed to be glued together by some sort of velveeta like cheese concoction, but they were pretty good. Unfortunately, I can't say the same thing about the salads, which were absolutely routine. If I had it to do over, I would definitely try one of the other places along Sheridan. I recommend you do too. read more

Rude and racist. If your any shade of non white highly warn you NOT to visit. Made a reservation with only 1 person in front of me. They took my number and said "wont be long." Waited 30 minutes and no call, meanwhile saw many families walk in after us and clearly say "no we dont have reservations" and were sat immediately which just happen to be white, same size party and some even larger. Not very happy and it was disgusting for my kids to first hand witness that, my 8 year old even said "daddy no fair they came after us". It messed up the whole mood of the night, we walked out on them- they are definitely not deserving of our money and really hope others read this and dont have to experience the same horror! :/ read more

Don't plan to go for Father's Day! Drove down from Billings, MT. Sat in a booth for 15 + minutes until the waitress finally showed up, she told us the buffet was closing. Okay. She didn't bother to offer menus. "Oh, and we aren't serving until maybe around 11:30." The cook wouldn't make anything between 10:15 am and 11:30 am? What? Oh, we could wait around for an hour and a half until they do decide to serve? No thanks. We will not be returning! It's sad, this used to be a great place to eat any time of day. Really enjoyed this historic hotel in downtown Cody. The live, local music was great! Sorry we missed the nightly gun show which apparently stopped the first week of September. The bartender was pretty cantankerous but it added to the ambiance. We stayed two nights and really enjoyed the rooms. We did not eat at the restaurant but the food we saw looked good. read more

Love, love, love the prime rib! OMG!!! It took me two days to finish it. Lol The service was great and the people were very friendly. We enjoyed the shoot out on the side street and made acquaintances along the way. Not expensive and worth our visit! It's right in the middle of town, so not too far from RV Park, but lots of on-street parking for RVs passing through. It was clean and accommodated our pallets! Saturday night 9-15-2018 - ~7:00 pm. very crowded, loud. Staff attempted to seat us near (loud) dual entrance/exit doors. My 70 yr old sister is half deaf. I said no to 2 tables near entrance/exit. I saw an empty booth across the room in a much quieter area and pointed, "I would like that booth." The rude man in a bowler hat immediately said, "No. Someone is already sitting there!" "Hmm?"--- I didn't see any one there, and nudged my sister. The owner, (obviously), came up and asked staff if we had been taken care of. Blah, blah, blah . . . we got the booth. ~10 to 13 minutes went by before we even got water, or a staff member acknowledged us. Yes, staff were very busy! Still, my steak was over-cooked (@$21.00), and the service was rushed and chaotic around and near our table. Sorry, Irma. We won't be back. read more

I can see Steve S.'s point: The hotel has a lot of long hallways and stairs and getting your luggage from the parking lot into your room can be a bit challenging. The hole place feels old and a little worn, but not at all dirty or anything. I would normally rate it three stars, but we really liked the western feeling it had. We stayed in Rm # 12 which was a 2 bedroom room. It was really cool, everything very old school with a real saloon feel to it. The beds were very comfortable and the stay was a very unique experience for us and our European friends. The receptionist was not very friendly, very cold, she basically tried to rush us out of her tiny lobby at 1pm, telling us that check-in is not until 3pm. Hmmm, we had lunch next door in the Grill and were able to get into our rooms by 2.30pm. Overall a great Inn, try to stay in the OLD part of the building! read more

A landmark Buffalo Bill establishment in the center of historic Cody. This hotel which also has a large dining hall running right through its lobby doesn't have to pretend to be old west. It is old west and if it's walls could talk I'm sure the cowboy stories are of legend. They often feature a melodramatic staged gunfight every night outside its expansive and lively porch. You can order food and drinks and relax out there which is pretty nice. The building is quite old and creaky but I would submit that is it's charm. One warning about rooms on the lower level though, you hear just about every footstep upstairs and it is quite loud. I had to ask for another room after getting little sleep, but the nice overnight guy gladly accommodated me and moved me up stairs. The restaurant is pretty standard Wyoming fare, and the 10.95 breakfast buffet is a nice value. read more

I went to Cody to visit some good friends and they took me here for breakfast and it was excellent. I had the Irma Skillet and it was so good I went back for another two days later. The staff was great and very on top of the game and dinning area is very old school and cool. I will eat here again when I return. read more

I thought the Irma was a great place to stay if you like History. We loved it that the owner personally came to the airport to pick us up and take us to the hotel. He was really nice. We enjoyed staying in our room and had no complaints. For as old as it was, the hotel was comfortable - kind of like your staying at your grandparents. We ate at the restaurant and had the Prime Rib - pretty good. I enjoyed seeing the original bar and the ghost stories from the staff. I definitely recommend staying here if you are an adventurous type. read more

Just a awesome place to stay. We came here for our honeymoon. We had seen this place online and made it a point to stay here. I was so happy when checking in that the famous room as seen on tv was open and was able to stay in that room. On the way up to the room just walking makes the hair on yur neck stand up. I wanted to spend more time here to check out the hotel and town but our schedule didn't allow us. We didn't get to see the gunfight because they "aren't allowed to kill people on Sundays" per city ordinance. And we got back late on Monday from Yellowstone. I heard it is fun to watch and is located right off the porch. We also didn't get to eat at the restaurant or check out the famous bar. We did stay in a nice room that looked like it belonged in the hotel. Not much updating made me feel like I was visiting 100 years ago. I didn't mind not having the modern amenities that come with most modern hotels. I hope to come back to Cody and actually experience more of the Irma. read more
