At the recommendation of a friend I wound up at Perfect Blend in Delmar for brunch on a recent Saturday. My guess is that 11am was prime time for this bakery-cafe. The place was packed. Many people seemed to be standing around the front counter waiting for take out orders. Despite the lines, both customers and staff seemed very nice. People stepped aside to make room for one another and did so with a smile. I never thought we'd find a seat in this crowded place but there was turnover. After putting in our orders, we sat down. A short time later, the kitchen staff emerged carrying our orders and calling my name. The coffee is good. A little on the strong side. I also ordered a $9 BC Eagle breakfast sandwich. It consisted of 2 eggs on a roll with a sausage patty, cheddar cheese, hash browns and hot sauce. Both the coffee and the sandwich were piping hot and hit the spot. The eatery is clean and cheerful. There are wood block table tops and outlets in the metal table columns where you can charge your devices. The front dining area is decorated with music posters. Some for Phish though most were Dave Matthews Band posters. Adding to the eclectic look of the place were the crazy overhead light fixtures made from kitchen tools including cheese graters and a flour sifter. The display cases are filled with tantalizing baked goods. There appears to be more seating in the rear but with the lines I knew I'd never make it that far. I'm not sure why Perfect Blend doesn't have better ratings on Yelp. The crowds would be an indication that it's a popular place. My friend and I really enjoyed our meal. Parking was easy, too. I parked on the street and there appears to be some parking behind the business. It's a bustling neighborhood eatery that serves up good food without breaking the bank. This will be one of my new go-to breakfast cafes!! I've always passed by Perfect Blend and one of my friends recommended it to me as well so I had to stop by while on a walk on the rail trail with some friends! Sooo yummy! They have such a fun selection of specialty coffees and regular coffees. The banana bread latte was so good-not overwhelmingly sweet nor artificial tasting. They also offer smoothies and other drinks as well. I loved the breakfast sandwiches. The Vermonster was delicious and the biscuit was so soft and buttery. My friend also enjoyed her bagel sandwich and their muffins and pastries looked so yummy. There's lots of seating indoor and outdoor and is such a popular spot. Door says they are to be open at 7 am its 755. I called and after several minutes I was finally to a man on the phone. I asked him why the doors were locked. He said holiday hours we don't open till 8 AM. I said how come you don't have that posted on your door is it sorry I said you realize you had eight customers out here trying to get in negotiate we're aware of that. Well apparently they don't need the business so much so I would recommend highly recommend not stopping at this place. So cute! Why have I not been here before? Plentiful parking and though very busy, my family of 4 got a table right away. We ordered a cake online for my son and it was ready when I got there. A sprinkle cake, almond flavored with strawberry filling. Delicious and for $25 for a 6 inch cake I found the price to be reasonable. I had a maple latte with a BC eagle breakfast sandwich, my hubby had an americano with the Vermonter and my kids had a chocolate croissant and strawberry cheese danish. Whenever I'm back in Albany I like to come to delmar and come here. Such a cute place with awesome staff and great coffee and food. There is parking on the street and in the back. It can be packed at times. It seems pretty popular. There's even some retail items to buy as well. Definitely will be back. read more

I know times are tough and eggs are expensive, but maybe you should smell them before you make a sandwich with them, because the ones on my breakfast sandwich had clearly gone bad. Plus most of my latte was foam. It's amazing that every time I go here this place gets worse. I think I've learned my lesson this time. read more

Tight space for seating and parking BUT the food and drinks are worth the hassle. I ordered a grilled bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel, pb&j smoothie, and a hot chai late. Everything was delicious. They keep a pretty consistent line from what I saw but it was never TOO busy. My food was served promptly and the employees are all very pleasant! My only complaint was that I wasn't sure if I should sit and wait or stand and wait, I was told to sit and only my food was brought to me I had to go to the counter to pick up my drinks. Great place if in a bit of an inconvenient place. The selection of pastries is pretty great and super tasty. The drinks are also very good with a huge menu. We shared a cannoli which was super tasty if a bit soggy (possibly made yesterday?). A ton of seating and nice workers. I'd return, definitely. read more

Ouch. Apparently, the barista has mastered a novel technique for preparing cappuccino: very hot, without burning the steamed milk. Make that, extremely hot. So hot, that I was lucky that I had a glass of water on the table to quickly cool my mouth. At the time, not too painful, just a little tingle... Two hours later, after I had left the shop, I realized that the coffee had been more than just extremely hot, as I felt skin begin peeling from the roof of my mouth. And, in retrospect, I realize that I couldn't possibly know if the milk was burned at all. How could I expect to taste anything? I must have forgot to use an infrared thermometer, which I will now have to carry with me to every coffee shop. The baked goods in the display case looked pretty good. And they were room temperature, so, pretty safe, also. It may be time for the barista to return to using a thermometer, and avoid injuring another patron. 2023 07 21. read more

I want to like this place. It's the central coffee shop in Delmar and in the hub of the town. The staff has been very friendly & the food has been fine. My problems are 1) it's not open on SUNDAYS and MONDAYS. I repeat, MONDAYS. Come on, guys. Can you even call yourself a coffee shop if you aren't open on Mondays? 2) the menu is in 3 or more spots around the shop. There are drinks on one wall. Breakfast sandwiches on another. Oh wait, specials on another! Maybe the hand written menu is meant to add charm? No worries - is there a physical copy of menu one can look at instead? Nope. So you are looking at 3 or more menus in different directions around the shop as the staff wait for you to place your order, trying to look over people's heads and holding up the line. You've got to have a physical menu in one place as an alternative to this. Even if there is one wall with specials that changes. It's incredibly annoying and inefficient especially at times when it's busy and people are getting annoyed with you as you are looking in multiple directions trying to figure out the menu. It also is stressful to do this whole song and dance when you are having to read the menu to multiple kids. 3) the coffee. It's no Brewtus. It's fine. It's like coffee from my Keurig at home, including their "espresso" drinks. It needs to be a lot better. Also, it's served at an unnecessary scalding temperature, as mentioned in other reviews. Again, it's the main coffee shop in town. This should be a big priority to get this right as a point of pride for the MAIN COFFEE SHOP in town. 4) breakfast sandwiches are for some reason served on tea saucer sized plates. I ordered an enormous, messy (it was good) egg sandwich on a bagel and it comes on the mini plate. I ask for a larger plate. No problem, the staff person got me a bigger plate and was friendly. So clearly it's just a protocol issue. 5) I don't know if it's every time but each time I've ordered breakfast sandwiches they are not cut in half unless you ask them to do it. Again they were friendly about doing it so this is clearly just a training/protocol issue. Some of these are big sandwiches on chewy bagels, it should just be standard that you cut them in half. My friend and I just threw a party for her birthday, and the person tasked with choosing the cake brought just the right cake, a mocha cake from perfect blend that was a heavenly blend of chocolate and coffee flavors. It was a smallish party, and there were at least two other competing deserts, but despite the limited number of full bellies the cake quickly vanished before our eyes until the hostess snatched up and absconded with the last two pieces. Now, the morning after, the hostess and I and two friends who remained overnight to help with cleanup are sitting at the table savoring these two slices in silent bliss. They are amazing. I ordered a cake for my wife's birthday and asked that her name and happy birthday be written in pink frosting on the cake. I brought cake home and was concerned that the only words on the cake were happy birthday. I immediately called the bakery and was told that someone should have called me to tell me that her name( FOUR letters) would not fit on cake. I said I was extremely disappointed. A pleasant neighborhood coffee shop. Often crowded and bustling, especially if you're stopping in when school lets out, Perfect Blend is a happy cafe on Delaware Ave in Delmar that offers various hot and cold coffee beverages, pastries, and even occasional loaves of bread. I am a fan of the iced coffee and lattes. The coffee isn't very bitter, and there are various alternative milks available if you want them (almond milk, soy, oat -- however, almond milk is sweetened only). Alternative milks will run you $1 per beverage, which is a bit pricier than nearly all other cafes I frequent. The baked treats -- muffins, scones, cupcakes -- all tend to lean toward too cloyingly sweet for me. The chocolate chip muffins are, and I can't believe I'm saying this, way too heavy on the chocolate chips. The pistachio walnut muffins taste too heavily of extract. I really enjoy the pumpkin cake and the French macrons. There are many cupcake, scone, croissant, biscotti, and muffin options offered each day, so you'll easily find something to suit your taste. Also offered: a full menu of sandwiches, wraps, and salads. There are tasty smoothies on offer also, but I don't frequently order them as they are very expensive, even for a smoothie. Seating offered in the front room facing Delaware, and a back, window-filled room facing their back patio and small parking lot (park on the street when you can; the lot is frequently full and hard to navigate when full). The outdoor patio is dog friendly, and there's usually a water bowl out for dogs. They'll often happily provide a puppuchino for good doggos, making Perfect Blend a favorite destination for our good doggo. Nice bonus, they've recently switched to compostable straws. :-) read more

Delmar has come along way since I lived there, over ten years ago. Most obvious is the four corners junction of Kenwood and Delaware Ave. The main intersection has seen various store fronts open and close like any "Main St" in a small town. Prefect blend opened its doors before I moved but it was a smaller space and different vibe. The current cafe has expanded into two store fronts and the menu too. I was happy to see the various food items to go along with coffee or tea. Andinterior design is focused on the jam band music scene, concert posters and framed rock nostalgia. I've known the Perfect Blend since it's inception and watched it grow to now. It was great before and it is really quite lovely now. In the pre-COVID days, I loved getting here early and studying with a cup of coffee as the morning and then lunch rush came in. The space is beautiful (ample outlets everywhere!!) and the food and drinks are delicious. Their breakfast sandwiches are particularly good, but I'm partial to the Cobb Salad. This is a solid spot but a little out of the way from my usual commute to work now, so I don't frequent as often. This is a quaint coffee shop in the heart of Delmar. Many locals patronize the shop, even ran into a coworker. At 9:15 on a Saturday morning there were 6 people ahead of me in line, which gave me time to take in the plethora of options: scones, pastries, sandwiches, quiche, quesadillas-- a wide array of options. While I'm an omnivore, there are several vegetarian and GF options. WaitEd about 10 min to order & only two people ahead just waiting for just coffee. Ordered a ham, egg & cheese on croissant & cafe mocha. The cashier was young and clearly new, as she didn't know what a cafe mocha was but another staff member explained it. It was fine, not a rave as a bit bitter which was remedied with a little sugar. The wait for my food was not long, but the coffee was a different story -- 10 minutes with now no orders ahead of mine. So 20 min for a coffee and sandwich and the place was not very busy. Ordered sandwich with eggs over easy and they came out well done, otherwise tasty but yolk running over the ham would have been ideal. Good vibe, strangers speak to each other and there is a sense of community. In fact the pic of the two sandwiches are courtesy of the couple sitting next to me, who loved theirs.The sense of community played into the 4 star rating. Negatives -- the wait when not swamped and the parking. It's limited street parking unless you walk a few blocks. The very small parking lot seems shared with 3 other businesses. 2* for coffee + 1* for integrity. Looking at the menu, and getting a sense of the place, I thought better of my usual evaluation technique and ordered a dry cappuccino. This turned out to be a *very* wise move. The Batista made the drink. With some difficulty. Than she told me, that she would like to re-make the drink, because she didn't quite get it dry enough. That is integrity. I love that. That almost never happens. Good show. In the end, I would say the drink I finally got was closer to a regular cappuccino, and even then a little on the wet side. The foam was full of unsightly large bubbles - but it was tasty and creamy - and gave me the energy to make it to my kid's play date. If this place were better, I'd move to Delmar. Actually, that was my secret hope. Find a cafe, in a nice neighborhood, that was awesome, and that I could get to on foot. - - - As of February '08 there is a sign at the register that says the business is for sale. Sigh. A big reason for my love of Perfect Blend is the space/ambience. Tons of nice big tables, ample electrical outlets, and an uber-friendly staff and crowd make this a welcoming space to hang for a few hours to study or get some work done. It's particularly nice in the winter, when its "light and bright" vibe is most necessary. Their wifi is fast, and it's not uncommon for me to end up eating breakfast and lunch here. Combined with the fact that it's open fairly late for a coffee shop around here, it's one of my go-to work spots. Their coffee is decent, if not amazing, and refills will cost you the same size as a small. Their food is decent if not amazing - most of it isn't anythign I couldn't make at home - but I've never been unhappy with anything I've ordered. I work right down the street from here and Perfect Blend has become my go-to for breakfast and sometimes a little afternoon pick-me up! I am a big fan of their caramel lattes (hot or iced) and always have an internal battle with myself over ordering a delicious looking pastry. On the occasion that my sweet tooth wins out I have never been disappointed with their baked goods; the cinnamon swirl croissants (which to me just look like cinnamon rolls) are my #1 pick! I've had lunch here a few times and really appreciate their vegetarian selections and modification options. I also really appreciate that they now offer coconut and almond milk for your coffee! Had an excellent salad and quiche; pleasant service and high quality food. Very casual; cerebral; chewy crunchy. I was new to the area and my boyfriend and I were just looking for a quaint place to enjoy breakfast. We went on a weekday morning and were pleasantly surprised by the lovely neighborhood, and also by the cozy ambiance, good music, and adorable trinkets for sale. My boyfriend got one sandwich which we loved, but I got the "Tweezer" which quickly became our regular favorite. Then I added on an almond scone which was still warm from being freshly baked. I ordered a nondairy latte with one of their many creative flavors which was also delicious and foamy, exactly how it's supposed to be made. My boyfriend got a chocolate milk made fresh at a local dairy farm. The staff was also very sweet and upbeat, and even brought our food to us at our table. Overall a very wonderful experience, and we even took several scones and croissants home which again were warm from being constantly baked. I can understand the issue mentioned in previous comments because as the hours went on, the line and number of people increased as lunchtime approached. A crowd that also appears to recur throughout weekend days. However, as crowded as it got, my experience with their food and service never suffered. If anything my biggest qualm was when they ran out of my favorite scones D: I know it's annoying when quaint small cafes get crowded, but I've seen many Starbucks handle the same crowd much more poorly, and serve lower quality food and drink. We just moved to the area and found this place early on. The negative reviews on here frankly seem a little petty to us. We had coffee, tea, a bacon egg and cheese sandwich, hash brown and zucchini bread. The quality of the food was excellent, the wait staff were incredibly sweet, this was cheaper than a trip to Starbucks and the facility is incredibly homey and cute. The outdoor seating is excellent and dog friendly. To the reviewer that complained about the wait staff having tattoos, get over yourself. Also, try going to a coffee house anywhere else in the country and not find someone with a tattoo. read more
