It's hard to believe that such stupidity as the prior review even exists. I'm betting he's never even been in the shop, because nobody who has been would ever write such nonsense. I've been going exclusively to Iron Cycles for my Harley needs for well over 13 years now. I've met regulars who have been going there even longer. The owner, Wally Whiting, is one of the most knowledgeable Harley technicians I have ever met. The shop always stocks the most common parts required, and anything ordered always arrives within a few days, at a very competitive price. More important than parts and prices, however, is the atmosphere. That shop is for people who eat and breathe motorcycles. It's not a sissy boutique or a museum - it's an old school motorcycle shop where people have grease under their fingernails and know what makes motorcycles work, especially the older pre-Evo Harleys the dealers won't touch anymore. This is a rare thing these days, and should be commended, not attacked! I can't count the amount of times I was in a bind because of a broken part or maintenance requirement right before a big trip, and Wally has bailed me out every single time, without exception. Sometimes, I even called him from the road when I had problems, and he always helped for as long as necessary. THAT'S more important than anything else. For that, he has a customer for life - and I'm not the only one, which is why the shop has been open long after all the other indy shops in the area (as well as a few HD dealers) have closed their doors. For the record, I am Israeli, and I look like it. Wally's always treated me like a brother, and so have the other techs there. I should also add that I am a professional motorcycle journalist, and have published over 65 articles in many national magazines over the past decade, such as Motorcycle Consumer News, Rider, BMW Owner's News, American Iron Retailer, and more - meaning I visit MANY of shops, and get my hands on MANY parts and bikes. I also commute 110 miles per day, and put more mileage on my bikes in a month than most do in a year. And I keep coming back to Wally Whiting at Iron Cycles, and I always will. There's always that one bad moronic customer who goes out and writes negative bullshit instead of looking in the mirror and realizing where the real problem is. As a long term customer of Iron Cycles, I felt compelled to write to clear up what is obviously a slanderous and absolutely moronic review by this "Rick S." I have no idea how to explain the first review of Iron Cycles in Jamesburg. Wally the owner is the kind so guy you want to deal with - knowledgeable and fair. Its an old time bike shop where bikers will feel comfortable and poseurs wont. Wally does great work at a great price. Also his Dynacycle Oil is as good or better than anything else out there. What really sets Wally apart is that I do some of my own work on my bike. When I need something odd - like the little clip to hold a cable to the handlebar pull - I drive to Iron Cycles and he either hands it to me or puts it on for me and like a good friend would, tells me its no charge. He's Harley only. Can't recommend him highly enough. He's made me feel like member of the family since I've been going there, and my friends as well. Most of us are some kind of minority - Indian or Jewish or whatever and Wally has never treated us like anything but family. I think the first reviewer did something to set him off. read more

The person answering the phone was somewhat rude. I think he probably does not want to carry even a short conversation with anyone but a Harley rider. Its fine, just a bit arrogant in my opinion. No need to write an essay about a dirty little bike shop. The bike repair man might be God to you... 1) I went to buy a small part for my "harley" bike and he refused to sell it to me based on my color of skin. (He called he f___ Indian and so many words. ( for the record I am Indian and American born in nj) 2) I also noticed and have been seeing he never has any customer or employees When I add these 2 things together it means he hates himself or his job. I went to harley dealership and they were happy to take my business. (Period) This is my opinion of this small,old and dirty little shop and I can share my views on this site. I was very disappointed with the quality of the shop work done on my 1967 FLH. I dropped off the heads and cylinders for re-work, left a deposit and then waited two months rather than the two weeks projected. After picking up of the refurbished parts and installing them, and going for a spin, I was not happy with the lack of power and after only 60 miles, the bike was smoked... After pulling the heads, the new front piston (also purchased through Iron Cycles) had a hole in the top. Upon examination of the heads, I noticed that: 1 - The new valves shafts were not tight allowing excessive amounts of oil to pass. Either the valve guides or the head work was sloppy. 2 - The heads and the valves were not seated correctly as noted from the signs of blow by. This was bad workmanship on the heads or faulty valves. Either way they should have picked it up and corrected the work. 3 - There was excessive wear on the rockers. Lord knows what that's about but it was just one more issue. Shame on me trusting the work of this shop, and shame on them for charging me $1800 for poor craftsmanship. I believe there are better shops down the road, so just ride on by. read more

My name is Walter, my bike blew a cam bearing in late April. I asked around to all my riding friends and all they could say was, do not go here or there, no one could recommend anybody, so I started looking for shops near me. I went to Iron cycles and met Wally, after introducing himself as a "asshole" and telling me what a great engine builder he is I decided to give him a try, I figured no one could be that cocky and not be any good. Boy was I wrong. He said my bike would be done in 2 weeks, it took three and a half weeks. After he gave me a price for rebuild $5400 he replaced battery and a few other things, never mentioned what those things were on the bill, RED FLAG. I get my bike back and he tells me my power command unit is burnt out need a new one, he will have unit by the time I get my first oil change done. 3 weeks later bring bike back, power command is wrong one, for a engine builder who said "I rebuild 4 engines a year" he got the wrong unit so rebuilding 4 engines a year was a lie. If you rebuild multiple engines a year you work out the kinks early so it does not happen again. Now I had to wait 3 more weeks to get my power command unit, meanwhile bike runs like crap, back fire, hesitation at 3000 rpm can't use it. Bring bike back, he maps the command unit and puts the wrong exhaust and who knows what else, but tells me bike runs great, he never took it out for a test drive, if he would have taken it out for test drive he would have seen in the first mile how bad it was hesitating. Now my oil pressure light goes on, I tell him, he mumbles and said "with this heat the viscosity of the oil goes down its normal" yes folks thats what he said. Now I know THIS GUY DOES NOT KNOW ANYTHING. I called S&S, Harley and they told me to run away from this shop ASAP. The oil pressure light goes on when you have under 3psi, RED FLAG. I did bring bike back to him and he said it is the oil pump. 3 more weeks to open engine up, could find nothing wrong but he changed oil pressure sensor and that fixed the problem, he had the engine apart to find the problem, still under warranty and he charged me for labor, on top of that he wrote on my bill "no dyno tuning until 6000 miles" perhaps Wally thinks he knows more then Harley, Indian, Honda or S&S, they recommend dyno tuning and give you step by step directions to do so including how to brake in a new motor. It was at this point that I decided to wipe my ass with the warranty. I went to a real pro shop, and he told me what was wrong with my bike. Wally did not install easy start cams like he said he would, when you instal 510 cams that are not easy start you need to instal 2 pressure relief valves on top of each cylinder or bike will not start on first try, you have at least 3 tries to get it started, when that happens you burn out the starter, battery, and later piston rings. I guess Wally did not know that, what a great engine builder. I had $10,000 to bring my 06 street glide up to new condition, I spent the balance in a real shop with quality mechanics that gave me a price and thats what I paid , no guess work and quality work. Ken from Black Hills Cycles took engine plate off and no easy start cams, he filmed this and did not charge me to look, he knew. He installed ultra oil cooler, installed pressure relief valves, replaced and upgraded starter, changed trans and main seal, adjusted brake and replaced brake lever, replaced gas filter, replaced fuel line that was loosing pressure, dyno tuned and said he never saw a worse mapped tune, my bike was running at 85%, but Wally said it was running great. I have all the bills to prove what I say is true. I turned away a fat boy and road king away from iron cycles, all by stating what I had to deal with, they went to another shop. I hope that this charlatan Wally got the gap distances and torque correct, I would not let this clown change a flat on a ten speed bicycle, calling him a clown is an insult to clowns anywhere. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP. This ordeal just ended after Ken did go over the bike and made some adjustments, now my bike runs great, no thanks to Wally. I wish I would have brought my bike to Ken in the first place. All the chest pounding and bravado in the world does not make you good at anything, eventually you have to prove you know something Wally, all I wrote here is true, no BS, I made a huge mistake bringing my bike to iron cycles, don't make the same mistake. read more
