Iron Horse Tavern is a great restaurant in Downtown Norcross. It offers an amazing location with street parking that can be a bit difficult to obtain when downtown nightlife is at its peak. They offer bar seating, tables, and booths. The service has always been top tier and is something that always has me coming back. That, and their Patty Melt! If you haven't tried it yet, come in and make sure you do. The Hubby and I have stopped in here plenty of times, especially when we lived closer to Downtown Norcross. Most recently we decided to drop in while in the area for a few appetizers and a nightcap. The food (as always) was amazing. Portion sizes are wonderful for sharing and the flavor is always on point. Karaoke night was an assault to the wallet, safety and ears. Overpriced drinks were expected but not the male patron going around saying you should buy them a drink and then for your table to go "fuck" themselves as we politely said we needed to eat our overpriced wings and talk later. They promptly went to demonically threaten another unsuspecting couple at the bar who mentioned it to the bartender and they just motioned a yeah, annoying hand gesture and went back to raking those sweet tips. I thought to tell my waitresses incase they came back in or were a regular since they seem to know ppl and harassing every weekend. I asked who I should talk to if it ever happens again since there's no bouncer. Her first reply was " Well, they weren't my table". The hell is wrong with you ppl??! There was a lot left to be desired. Despite the numerous high ratings, which was what made me choose this tavern in the first place, everything we ordered was extremely underseasoned, bland, or just not worth the price at all. We had to be heavy handed with seasoning our own dishes, and even then, there were specific flavors in each dish that made it disheartening to eat. Some of our food came out cold or lukewarm, which was disappointing. Even our sodas lacked flavor as it seemed to be mostly carbonation (there is only one free re-fill with sodas). The most damning was the portion compared to price. The spring rolls, pictured in this review, were two rolls cut in half and priced at $13.95. The service is also underwhelming. The amount of parties in the restaurant in relation to the availability of our server did not leave an amazing impression. I looked forward to this tavern due to the high and numerous reviews, but one must keep an eye out for the demographic posting them and see if they match your taste. read more

Omg where do I start. Even before entering the Tavern you are greeted by a London style phone booth - bright and red as inviting and enticing as it gets. We went there as a large group and Chi our server was just frigging awesome. This little lady of energy remembered ALL of our names individually. We must have been 12-16 strong. When I tell you I never had to look for her for orders or questions I mean it. Super attentive with such a great attitude. I ordered the grande nachos for our table and it was delish! I mean dried up under the basically burned batter. The chips part were pretty tasty. But we both were still hungry after a dozen oysters and entrees of fish and chips so we ordered another dozen. The oysters were very fresh and pretty good size....a dozen is $16 and the entrees were $16.95 and even though we let management know we paid full price. We came here on a Friday night after an eventful day at the Aquarium. We are a family of 8 and were given a high top table right away. Our server was great and very attentive. Lots of orders and they all came out correct. I got the Brussels sprouts and they were okay but nothing amazing. We ordered the Texas grilled cheese, wings, fish tacos, nachos, gyro , and steak fries. They were all good. I ordered a Kentucky mule and that was very basic. Nothing special. The people leaving reviews are the staff lol the people here quit often. First of all, when you walk in this place, it smells HORRIBLEEEE!!!!! And by horrible, I mean like mold and everything old. I used to come here to get their oyster special but like I said, the staff changes and they recently hired a new cook whose unable to prepare the oyster Rockefeller so they just completely took it off the menu leaving only the raw and uncooked. The food is horrible as well. The food tastes freezer burnt and has no flavor. Not even their burgers. It's just very very bad. We are in town visiting family and celebrating our anniversary. The Atmosphere and drinks are great, and the waitress was nice. However, we came here specifically for the bangers and mash. When it came out, the bangers were served over tater tots. When we re-read the description, it says tot smash, but we didn't realize that meant tatertots. My husband detests tatertots...so you can imagine the disappointment. My husband wanted bangers and mash, and were excited to come here. It was very disappointing. Since the pandemic, my criteria has changed in choosing a place to stop for lunch. Is there outdoor seating? Does it look relatively clean? Yes? Sold!!! And that's how we ended up at Iron Horse. Coming from the art fair in downtown Norcross, I had an irresistible urge for a burger. With a nice covered patio and no wait, this seemed like a good choice. And it was. Sort of. I ordered the California Burger which comes with grilled mushrooms, swiss cheese, lettuce and tomato. The photo I took looks good. However..... the ratio of bun-to-burger was off. The patty was dwarfed inside the roll. And there was a paltry amount of mushrooms, a little bit of cheese and a slice of tomato that I had to dissect to make palatable. The burger itself was good. Nicely grilled, albeit a little more done than the medium rare I requested. My wife and I have been singing karaoke at the Iron Horse now for 14 years!! Time flies when you are having fun. For those of you who have stayed away for a while, come on back!! A wonderful group of rotating DJ's offer a collection of over 40,000 songs from the 1940's to the present day. Any genre you care to mention!! The fun begins at about 9:30PM and goes until about 12:30 or so. Finally, for those of you who might be nervous or afraid about singing in front of people, don't be. My 3 pieces of advice to you. #1-You are not being graded. #2-There isn't a Sony recording crew doing a vidio of you. #3--And most importantly: The drunker the audiance gets, the better you sound. The ONLY essential requirement: that you have fun! Food! WOW!! So where do I start with the upgraded menu? Here some of my new favorites: Brunswick Stew, Bangers and Mash, the Tuscan Wrap, The Cod special and the Kielbasa appetizer. Beer! My favorites, from a great tap selection, are Guinness, Smithwicks, the latest Sam Adams rotating ale and Sweetwater 420! Service! Great! The wait staff is top notch. Two final things. Our little group blasted through over half the appetizer menu with a few drinks, and the skillet cookie topped with ice cream is phenomenal! It reminds me strongly of the skillet cookie at Firehouse Brewing in South Dakota, and I left SD in 2015. Now I know where to go for that fix! read more

They had Smithwicks on tap or was it Kilkenny's. Either way, a pint poured right, and frosty delicious For dinner, our party of 4 enjoyed, fish+chips, burger and blackened fish taco. My blackened fish taco was delicious. Fish not overcooked, generous portions, savory sauce and that classic grilled, smoky white fish. Our server was very cordial and friendly. It was our first visit and she treated us like old timers. She was super busy but did manage to check in on us multiple times. On several occasions, we were ignored while waiting to be seated, tild the kiy hen was closed, and even extremely long food delays.. The food menu could you an update as well as the establishment. So many TVs. That's what I noticed first, and throughout our dinner. Fireplace is nice ambiance but every time the door opens, all tables in the front area freeze (it was a cold night when we visited). Went because friends say they like this place. They didn't have diet soda. What? The food was blah. Pub food I get, this was on the low end though. I won't trust these friends again. And they over served someone. Who fell on our table and us and had to be placed back in the booth he came from. The bartender/mgr said they had already called the spouse. Not a responsible place if they know someone's wife to call because the person has had too much to drink. Maybe don't serve that much to start with. How often does this happen? They did remake our meals relatively quickly. But to me, it was their fault this happened. I would not go back here, wouldn't recommend them, and think they should probably get a staff that knows to not over serve. read more

Trivia is what brought me here, and what is going to keep bringing me back. Trivia is hosted here every Thursday, and I have gone here and have had beers and also food. And to be honest, the food is just alright. There's nothing crazy or unique about this place but, trivia. The only thing I wished was that it started earlier, but it makes sense that it doesn't because it takes time to get home. The food is eh. I'm not saying it's inedible! I can definitely eat here and there's good burgers. It's just alright, but it's a pub... and beer is king. I usually get a Guinness, because well...it wasn't winter time and the porters and dark beer aren't booming yet. So I mean, if you're looking for trivia, Iron Horse is the place to go. If you're looking for a pub in Downtown Norcross, this is definitely the place to go. If you're looking for amazing mouth watering food, eh...think about it. But if the combinations, this place will definitely fill those expectations. I'm going to definitely come back, just because it fills my need for Trivia and making me feel a bit dumb at times. British Pubbiness-aside, Iron Horse Tavern is a decent place to grab a bite to eat in downtown Norcross and is also pet friendly! I often go to downtown Norcross when walking my dog and stop by Iron Horse Tavern if I'm ever hungry and take a seat at their outdoor seating area. The servers are attentive even out there, so no issues with service. They even make sure my dog has water! As such, I don't often eat indoors, so I can't speak much for the ambiance in there, but from what I can remember on previous visits, it is fairly dark and, depending on what time you go, can be fairly loud and crowded. I have never participated in any of their events, but I have attended on some game days (American football) and it does get a little bit rowdy at times. I don't often a stray from the menu too much, so I can't speak for all of their food. I experimented a little in the past with their fish and chips, bangers and mash, and other stuff. They were all okay. It wasn't until I tried the Dunwoody Doozie on a friend's recommendation that I really liked my food and I make sure to get that every visit. I'm sure most restaurants work the same way honestly - just experiment with the food until you find something that stands out to you. I doubt this is authentic British food, but it is certainly tasty. I would definitely recommend trying this place out and finding what you like. read more

You can find the Iron Horse Tavern on the far side of the downtown Norcross square down the hill from Paizano's and Zapata. This is an English/Welsh style pub and part of the same series as Royal Oak, Bat and Ball, Ship and Anchor and Ye Olde Dunwoody Tavern - most of those are near where I work so I've visited them all - besides having a similar theme, they share the same menu (for the most part - the daily specials do vary a bit though). The interior is woody and dark, just as you would expect of a pub. There's an area to play darts and some booths to divide up the space a bit, otherwise it would be very loud and you do know it's loud when it's crowded on weekends and during trivia night. I like this place quite a bit - very cozy and great for kicking back and tipping a pint or two of bitters. This place get's some great limited-time craft beers (ask for what's on the rotating tap) - the best I've had here is New Holland Brewing's Poet stout - this is an amazing beer and worth trying if you haven't. Otherwise they have the usual mainstays found at the other pubs: Bass, Blue Moon, Guinness, Harp, Newcastle, Stella, Sweetwater 420 and IPA and Yuengling on tap. As for food, the best thing on the menu is the fish-and-chips - these are made with the best cut of the cod, no tough tail section here (pet peeve of mine) - you can get it with one or two pieces if you're hungry. Add some malt vinegar and enjoy yourself - you can't go wrong with this one. Service has always been more than passable and downright great at this location - they hire some real people with character, who know their food and more importantly, the bar. I popped in this spot for a going away party for a colleague on a Thursday afternoon. As I was standing and chatting with friends, a server walked by with a hamburger, destined for a diner's table. At that moment, I knew I would be returning the following evening to try that burger. Thankfully, my husband does not have to be persuaded to go out for burgers. And my burger did not disappoint. The spicy jalapeno burger hit the spot! The sweet potato fries were a perfect side. My husband had the buffalo burger and was also impressed. Our young son had the kid-sized burger and nearly ate the entire thing (which is very rare for our finicky little one). My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Great, casual neighborhood vibe. It was crowded, but there was no wait on the Friday night we visited. Service was excellent and attentive, and the manager or owner stopped by to ensure we had a great evening. I have a feeling this will be our family's go-to burger stop. And I look forward to trying a number of other things on their menu, like the fish and chips and even the gyro. Yet another Dunwoody Restaurant Group restaurant. Why are all of the menu's EXACTLY the same at every location? It's a different restaurant name, so why do they offer the exact same food? Anyway, if I had gone to Iron Horse Tavern first of all these restaurants, maybe I wouldn't be so jaded. I try to order something different off the menu every time I come to another repeat location. I ordered a gin martini (I believe it's called MI5) and left it at that. It was very strong and did the trick on a rainy Tuesday night. I ended up splitting an order of sweet and spicy wings with my friend and ordered a crunch salad for myself. The salad came with some tender blackened fish - a little greasy but seasoned well. The crunch salad was like eating cole slaw without all the mayo. Tasty, but after a while, it became a little hard to swallow. Our server came back every now and then to check on us, but not often enough. I wish she had offered us waters to go with our alcoholic beverages, as most restaurants do. Everyone in the place, especially the bar staff, was uber friendly and they even got me up on stage for karaoke and I don't do karaoke. I've ordered the food here on Uber Eats a few times and now and it has been 5/5 every time. I love the fried chicken and chips; which was perfectly lightly fried and the chips were crispy and salted. Tonight I ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup, which my 5-yr devoured, and the mozzarella sticks which were just perfect and delicious. My food came with a side of tortilla soup which was a surprise but also delicious. I feel like the food here is so much better than you'd expect from a bar, so I'd highly recommend uber-ing it if you want good food but don't want to go to a bar atmosphere. read more
