My first time there as a treat for my first day out after neck surgery. All aspects of this restaurant was amazing. Started with our waitress Brie who made the great suggestion of the shrimp and grits which were to die for. She also recommended cinnamon pop tart which was extra delicious. I had dinner and dessert as the portions were so large the following night. In Hunt Valley a few times a month for work and have eaten lunch here twice. Had the BLT the first time and it was very dry and salty. The place was empty and I was freezing the entire time. The second time was with coworkers at lunch. We were told a 20 minute wait (with many, very visible, open tables) so we sat to wait with everyone else. At 35 minutes, when two other parties our size (3), who came in after us, were seated ahead of us, I went to the desk and asked how much longer with more patience and pleasantness ( is that a word?) than I knew I possessed. They seemed to realize their mistake and sat us. Once seated, our waiter was frenzied as there appeared to be only three them for a large lunch crowd so it 5 minutes for her to greet us and take a drink order. It went even more downhill from there. I've been to the Canton location a few times and loved the service, atmosphere and food. But I tried out this location and was very disappointed. First, there were ants everywhere. I mean crawling on the table, walls, etc. I understand maybe seeing one or two, but this was not just one or two. Our server was also super rushed the whole time. Mind you, it was not busy, at least in her section. I was there on a Monday afternoon and she mostly stayed behind the bar (where no one was sitting). It's totally fine to be in a a hurry, but she spoke to us so quickly and abruptly and I didn't feel comfortable asking for things I needed because she was always zooming around, I felt like it'd be an inconvenience; which is not how you should feel as a paying customer in a restaurant. She wasn't very polite either, no smiles, no laughs; nothing. Atmosphere...it's literally just the same old Joe's Crab Shack with some chicken and rooster decorations put up. There's a pirate ship playset out back, there's boat themed things all around. It's weird. It doesn't make sense. The Canton location is so pretty, it all makes sense and it's trendy and cool. My menu looked to be about 5 years old, even though this location is very new. It was tattered and worn. Each page also had crayon all over it. I can look past the crayon but I felt like I needed to wash my hands after looking through the menu. Gross. Now the food, ugh. Okay so some of it was totally fine. The poptarts was fine, a friend got a BLT that looked fine. I got the brisket chili which was so good, I loved it. But I also ordered a pulled pork sandwich. Once I ordered it the waitress said "You know this is southern style right? So it'll be dry" Hm. Uh. Well. I'm from Louisiana. I've had many pulled pork sandwiches, lots of BBQ, etc. I have never had something that was full-on DRY. Even smoked meats are moist inside. I just chalked it up to maybe it's not a sopping wet sloppy joe style pulled pork. You know how some is dripping with bbq sauce and some just has a nice drizzle on top? I was content with the idea that it was just a drizzle of BBQ sauce. I mean the item description on the menu says "house roasted pork shoulder / brioche bun / NC style BBQ sauce / house slaw" Like it says it has sauce! This sandwich had literally NO sauce at all. It wasn't even seasoned in any way. She was being very literal. It was bone dry and completely flavorless. It was so so gross. I couldn't even fake my way through it. I never took a bite out of it, I just tried some of the meat and stopped. I don't know if they ran out of the sauce or if this lady really thinks it's meant to be as gross as it was. But it was just terrible. I brought it home thinking we could slap some bbq sauce on it and make it bearable, but my boyfriend ate it last night and just texted me to say " I just exploded out of both ends of my body. That sh** was bad. That pork was no bueno dude" A little more information than I needed, but I felt it was important to share. Sorry ya'll. Really though, I'd steer clear of this place. Or at least avoid it until next year when they read through these Yelp reviews and make some improvements and cycle through some of their staff. read more

This place is a pretty good place. The aesthetic is hipster, farm-to table kind of. You're given water in mason jars, there's roosters everywhere and farm decór. My family went there early in the morning last Sunday, and we got seated really quickly, though usually if you go later there is a wait. There is an outside patio area we sat at, and honestly it's really nice. My one year old was able to run around because of a really nice fence that offers some privacy from the busy road close by. The orange juice is fresh-pressed, you can definitely tell, and they offer bottomless coffee, which is delicious. My boyfriend always gets the chicken and waffles, which is a must have in his opinion. I got the creamed chip beef, which is different than I've ever had, but it was pretty good. The kids portions are HUGE, so you get your money's worth. The French toast is delicious. The waitress had a lot of tables, so the service was a little spotty, but that's the only time it's been like that. Good food, pretty good prices, good atmosphere. I understand busy, but what I don't understand is the complete disregard for the customer. I decided to take my Mother in law there for brunch Sunday, giving them another chance after a very disappointing brunch visit a month ago, and left after 55 minutes because they clearly don't give a shit about their guests. When we arrived we were quoted a 55 minute wait, a little long for my Mother In Law who is uses a walker and is on oxygen, but she wanted to give The Iron Rooster a try, so we agreed to wait. When we hit the 55 minute mark and still weren't seated I approached the front desk to ask why. There were parties that arrived after us that were being seated, but I was told it would be another 25 minutes....? The host said these other tables had reservations, but I find it hard to believe that all of them did. Being somewhat familiar with the business, what I noticed is that all of these parties were 3-4 people and they didn't want to give a larger table or booth to just the two of us. We were going to have to wait for a two top to open up....I was not about to wait an additional 25 minutes to take the chance of receiving average or sub-par food like the last visit so we decided to go elsewhere. I doubt that anyone associated with The Iron Rooster will read this or care about the bad experience we had, clearly they don't list customer service and/or genuine hospitality among their priorities. If you are undecided about giving The Iron Rooster a chance, do so at your own risk. You have a 50/50 shot at best to be treated as a valued guest or be guaranteed delicious food. There are many better and more reliable choices out there. This location will soon follow the path that the Joe's Crab Shack that preceded them did. I look forward to what opens in that space next, maybe third time is a charm. read more

This place was decent. Tried a different location today. I ordered the steak and egg benny and my mom had the basic breakfast with a pancake. The food was great in flavor, the bourbon butter for the pancake was delicious and I ate my steak and egg benny and was very pleased. The only problem, was the temperature of the food. All of moms stuff was barely warm. My benny was hot but the hash browns were not. I was pretty starved so I was ok. The portions were plenty and the place was clean. The Tennessee punch was DELICIOUS, I would order that again. I've been to the Iron Rooster in Baltimore, that location was pretty good all the way around.... no complaints there. This one is located in cockeysville so there is a nice outdoor mall to enjoy as well. Our server was great and the hostess was really kind as well. Choose somewhere else! We were Coming through the area on a family road trip, (two toddlers, mom and dad) and stopped here for all day breakfast. From the moment we stepped in the restaurant the dirty started. The floor everywhere we walked in the restaurant was like greasy slippery and we had to walk with caution (not at their direction just because we'd bust our butt if we didn't). Then they sat us by the kitchen and should have issued us a fly spray because the entire time at our table we were constantly swatting away at least four flies that were landing on our food with no avail. It was hot in the building, so after swatting flies nonstop I worked up a sweat. The staff was nice, however the food wasn't worth the yuck we were experiencing. The potato's that came with the chicken and waffles were cold and honestly didn't even appear or taste cooked. My husband and I could not eat them. Three of us got waffles or pancakes and they did not bring butter or syrup. When I requested syrup, the server brought us one small dipping cup. SMH. My three year old got a dessert looking pastry with his kids meal, sprinkles on top. It looking delicious. I don't know if it was old or what but the poor kid nearly threw up when he took the first bite. He was spitting it out and pale. And that kid loves sweets so something was wrong. I've been here plenty of times and other when they first opened, everything was great. However, I cannot say that about today. Their "famous" pop tart was very disappointing. We sent the first one back because it was mushy and not fully cooked and within in minutes, the new one was delivered the same exact way. I ordered the chicken & waffles, which I always get, and was extremely disappointed. The chicken was fantastic, however, the waffles were mushy and did not have the texture of a Belgian waffle. In both cases, it appears that both the waffles and pop tarts were premade and then heated up in the microwave. I don't know that for a fact because I did not see the cook do this, however, by the texture, I can only assume. Today we we sat at the bar and I must say, the service left a lot to be desired. Only 1 bartender was able to make drinks and the other one was busy cutting up fruit. Never once did they ask us if we needed anything, we always had to seek them out. Be prepare to wait a LONG time to get seated. Get comfortable because you will now wait a LONG time for the food to arrive. Is the kitchen too small for the number of tables? Are they understaffed? This is a corporate chain so the whole idea of it being growing pains doesn't make sense. It is very loud in here, but they didn't design the building so can't fault them for that. The service is good for sure, our waitress was as frustrated as we were with the situation. I work at a local business in the Hunt Valley area and when I called to make a lunchtime reservation for the middle of next week, I was told they were booked. Granted, we have a party of 13 but I'm somewhat surprised that every table just happens to be booked on a Wednesday?? The manager didn't even offer to work with us other than suggesting two off the wall times that are not conducive for lunchtime in most businesses. I have been working in the area for almost 19 years and have never had an issue booking a party of this size at any other restaurant...even on shorter notice. First of all the brown sugar pop tarts are to die for. So much better than the processed version and eating that warm, sweet pastry is heaven. Their sweet tea is also very good as is the fried chicken salad. On the down side every time I go the service is s l o w. Don't go if you have to be somewhere else. I had semi high expectations because I had a decent experience at the canton location however, when we got to the iron rooster there was maybe 5 other people there so you would expect fast service right?...wrong! First it took about 15 minutes for my cup of chili which wasn't even hot and it was more like soup since it was mostly liquid. After about 30 minutes our burgers come out which are two tiny little maybe 3oz? Patties which is fine but they were medium rare at best and we both asked for med well because I do not like rare ground beef, and the waitress had to apologize because the fries with my girlfriends burger were not ready yet. So in 30 minutes you undercook a burger and could not finish an order of fries? Also we were never offered refills on our drinks and the bacon was forgotten on our burgers. Overall the only positive part of the meal was leaving the restaurant. Also the waffle for my waffle burger was moist instead of toasty and crisp. I hope that this is a growing pains type of experience for a new restaurant but it was terrible. I will say the guy at the front door was friendly enough but that's about it. read more

For those who aren't familiar, Iron Rooster has become a bit of a local phenomenon since they opened in Annapolis several years ago. This location in Hunt Valley continues that, with their unique breakfast and breakfast-inspired lunch and dinner plates. I went for a dinner visit and tried the signature waffle burger. To me, it worked better eating as a open-face sandwich with a knife and fork but the taste works together. Definitely save room for a dessert and try the homemade pop-tart (nothing like the boxed ones). Don't come here if you are on a diet because you will want to gorge yourself with carbs. Went on Monday January 2, and the wait was atrocious. I understand that every new restaurant has a learning curve, but it was ridiculous to see multiple tables sitting empty for 40+ minutes yet there's a 1 hour wait. Once seated, I was expecting to see servers running around in a frenzy. Nope, they all worked at a leisurely pace, food was slow, and no manager was visible or interacted with guests. The food was just okay (there was a hair in the steak and eggs but we didn't bother saying anything), but definitely not good enough to warrant more than a 10-20 minute wait. In a spot where there are tons of other restaurants to choose from, this one kind of missed the mark. I think Barrett's Grill has better food for example. read more
