Quaint little spot tucked away from the road, I would have never known it was here if a friend didn't suggest it! I was a PITA customer asking about the size of the celery in their chicken salad & they handled me with grace & offered to have the celery removed for me. My husband and I ordered from this location today as take away. I tried to call an order in but the phone was busy. When I arrived I saw that it was very busy and understood why the phone had a busy signal as many people were ordering at once. The lady behind the counter was really nice. I was a little apprehensive at first due to the clientele mostly being silver foxes, and if you are from the area, I didn't want this to be like a well known silver fox establishment that rhymes with TepperBill. Anyway.... I had the chicken pita, my husband had the beef kabob meal, and we split an order of french fries and a cup of chili. My chicken pita was very messy but very good. It had honey mustard on it instead of tzatziki which I thought was really good. My husbands beef kabob meal was good but the beef was a little dry. The rice had really good flavor though. The french fries were crispy and good, but the chili was really good. Usually take away chili is eh, but this chili was really good. The portion sizes are really large as well. Used to frequent this place often when I worked in the Cockeysville area. It had been about 5 years since I've been. Kept saying I need to try it again, and pretty disappointed that I did. Not sure what changed, and guessing that COVID did, but wow. From the distasteful food to charging for "water". The definition of a hidden gem. You'll find regulars who have been coming for 20+ years and with good reason! I found this place by yelp while travelling and it was incredibly impressive. I visited on a Wednesday and came back again the next day. I ordered a corned beef rachel sandwich that comes with a soup. The sandwich tasted amazing with a generous portion of meat well balanced with coleslaw and the toasted bread. The provided small snacks like bagged potato chips and a kitkat to go. Even while busy its well spaced so youre able to talk with whomever is sitting with you. The service is very attentive during peak hours. The atmosphere is very dainty and they cater well to seniors. Its a clean place but it can be small with all the increased demand that might follow with returning customers. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a delicious sandwich. read more

Have driven past it a million times and never knew it was there until I googled lunch places near me. Nicely decorated with all sorts of artwork. Service was good. I meet a friend every Thursday for lunch. We try to discover new places we've never been to before, normally in the Towson, Timonium, Cockeysville, and Hunt Valley areas because I am coming from Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania and they are coming from Perry Hall, Maryland. I use Yelp to help me find and evaluate our undiscovered restaurants. I found Side Street Café and decided that we would try it based on its good reviews and overall star rating. On the particular day, we decided to have lunch, it was an anomaly, as it was a late lunch, and we arrived at 2:35 PM. You could have driven right passed the restaurant and not even known it was there, due to its hidden location, on a small side street, behind a U-Haul center with which it shares its parking lot. We asked someone on the parking lot, "Where's the restaurant?" He replied, "Right around the corner." We walked around the corner, up the ramp, and to the door. We looked at the hours posted on the door and saw that the café hours were from 11 AM - 3 PM. We were surprised and knew we wouldn't be eating there that day. I apologized to my lunch mate and said that I should have looked at the hours online before we came to the restaurant. I naturally assumed that the café was opened all day. The next week was a normal lunch week, so we tried again, this time arriving at noon. When we entered, we were immediately greeted by a woman who was behind a cash register, located off in a corner of a dining area. The overall décor of the restaurant consisted of multiple rooms for diners, set apart by walls with windows and homey curtains, the walls were decorated with tasteful black and white pictures in wooden frames, the tables and chairs were smaller and more intimate varying in shape, round and square, covered by cloth tablecloths, however, the plates were large, brightly colored squares like something you would find in a Mexican restaurant. We were taken to our table, walking through different rooms of diners, enjoying their lunches. All their meals looked fantastic! Another older man, who I believe worked in the kitchen, took our drink orders immediately. A combination of people, at the restaurant, worked as a cohesive team servicing our table, like a well-oiled machine, as they did other tables to quickly turn the tables to accommodate new patrons. The restaurant was on the smaller size and each table was occupied the entire time we were there. This restaurant is truly a hidden gem. The restaurant is known for their daily homemade soups. The menu includes a Daily Specials section where a sandwich/salad/gyro comes with chips, relish dish, and a cup of soup for approximately $10.50. We both chose the Rachel Sandwich (corned beef, Swiss cheese, coleslaw, Russian dressing, on toasted rye). I got the Seafood Gumbo soup and my lunch mate got the Chicken Corn Chowder. The soups arrived with a couple of minutes. Both were delicious and hearty. The sandwiches were awesome! Their homemade relish had olives, green and red peppers, spiral macaroni, maybe cilantro, and possibly something else in it, but it was good, too. The chips were a throw-in, but I ate them anyway. Everything was so filling and a real bargain for less than $11.00. They wasted no time on bringing us our check. Again, volume, good food, and low prices are their success story. It's too bad they're not in a better location, but I guess that's what makes it so special. I would highly recommend coming to Side Street Café for lunch. Get there early or be prepared to wait for a table. However, your wait will not be long. They do a terrific job of getting people in and out. I know I will return for lunch again. read more

I have been here for lunch many times and the food is consistently yummy. I have always had the same thing as have all my friends and hubby - we always get the kabob and rice. It is so so good. The meat is marinated in some sort of citrusy goodness and the saffron rice is delish. The seating is cozy, but pretty snug, so don't come here to talk about anything confidential - everyone at the tables around you will hear. The owners are super nice and the food comes out quickly. If it's your first time here, it's semi-challenging to find. It's hard to see the entrance from York road. The cafe is located next to Andy Nelsen's Barbeque by the Uhaul. The parking is directly in front of the building where the Uhaul place is, and the entrance for the Side Street Cafe is....on the side of the Uhaul building. It was ok. Basic diner food. Very small portions. Considering the reviews, I was expecting something awesome. My friend had a small black bean and shrimp soup and a chicken salad sandwich. I had a fish sandwich. My sandwich came with chips and I ordered a side order of french fries. The sandwiches were much the same quality of bland as you would serve in your own kitchen when you didn't have the time or inclination to make something awesome. Additionally, the fish was maybe, 1/4 of an inch thick. Rarely have I seen a more flat piece of fish. The fries were standard pre-cut, previously frozen steak fries. There are no dessert options on the menu. I think if I'd had the opportunity to​ craft a minor sugar coma I wouldn't be writing this review right now. read more

Anyone who gives Side Street Cafe less than five stars has been eating at chain restaurants for entirely too long. Family owned, CONSISTENT quality. You will NEVER see them on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. I was heartbroken when I thought they had closed because the building kept flooding. But they bounced back and are resilient as ever. The staff couldn't be more professional, courteous and AGAIN consistency. The food is always fresh. Soups are great. Old style glory. Great place for a quick business lunch or just a lazy dine out. I've been to Side Street Cafe twice and it's my new local favorite. There are lots of tasty Greek-influenced options and the sandwiches and salads that I've tried have been delicious. I love this place! I had a friend bring me here, which was very helpful as I probably wouldn't have ever found it otherwise! It's definitely a hole-in-the-wall kind of cafe, which I think adds to its charm. The food is always good (I highly recommend the chili) and the staff is very friendly and responsive. They give you good portion sizes, too, and don't rush you out, even when they're about to close. I only wished I worked closer so I could come here more often for lunch (they're only open for lunch), but I come on Saturdays and it's never packed, but it's also never empty. side street café never disappoints for lunch. While the seating is a little....cramped, the décor makes you feel like you've been welcomed into someone's home for a great meal. The service is unfussy and fast. As small as it is, I've never had to wait for a table or my food. The menu consists of eclectic lunch classics and I suggest trying a soup (I love the mushroom & brie bisque) and something off the specials menu. The chicken gyro with side salad and fries I had today had me scratching my head as to why this place isn't more well-known, but I'm happy to keep it a secret.
