Just stopped by on the way to Twin because we were sooooo hungry. It's inside the truck stop but it's separate and had a simple, clean cafe like atmosphere. Nice and quick service, and food was delivered quick! Surprisingly the shrimp and cod dinners were delicious! Got the shrimp basket appetizer with fries for my meal and ate every bit of it. Husband had cod and sautéed shrimp, plus grilled green beans which were SO good that I wished I'd ordered some too! The only thing that wasn't great was the mashed potatoes, they were more like cafeteria or school lunch. Other than that, if you're looking for a decent place to eat in Wells, I'd definitely go with this place. read more

The Iron Skillet in Wells, NV is my favorite stop on the I-80. Many years ago I used to stop here when I would go visit my mother who lived in Twin Falls, Idaho. Being about 1 1/2 hours away, I would normally stay at a Motel 6 here. My favorite restaurant was The Iron Skillet. So tonight I decided to stop by and try this restaurant. I ordered the sirloin steak with mushrooms and onions, broccoli cheese soup, and a salad. The server was very nice but had a lot of tables to serve as she was alone. The steak was so tender that I was able to cut it with a butter knife. The soup was excellent, the salad was fresh and crisp with cheese on top, and small tomatoes. It was one of the best meals that I've had in a long time. Everyone was enjoying their meals because I kept hearing remarks of "This is excellent" and "This is really great" from other tables. I also tried their apple ice cream dessert which was really, really fantastic! The ambience was for families and those who wanted to be alone as there were tables, booths, and a counter. The restaurant was very clean and well maintained. I also want to mention the Chef who was preparing everyone's meals did a really phenominable job! If you're by Wells NV off of the I-80, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant! read more

Something was wrong with the gas in the kitchen, and they were only serving basically fried foods. It was not a very good experience.

My expectations were very low walking in to an old smokey casino to get to the Iron Skillet for a much needed refueling of a different sort than we did to the car minutes before. It looked understaffed, and it was, but a cheerful young lady seated my 87-year-old Mom and I quickly and had waters on the table immediately. The menu was straight out of the truck stop diner handbook written when trucks had twin sticks and no turbochargers. I noticed that the smokey smell from the casino did not seem to permeate the restaurant, and that was nice. Our waitress came around after a few minutes and asked what we wanted for dinner. Our idea was breakfast! It is served all day, and we are a breakfast for dinner kind of family. Mom went with the pancake combo, and I had to try the chicken fried steak and eggs. The staff were all so nice, each one greeting us as they went by if they did not see us earlier. It was busy, and everyone was moving in a hurried pace. I appreciated them overcoming what is becoming a corporate dirty trick of short staffing and forcing crew members to pull twice the load or more. Our meals came quickly, which was a bonus because we were hungry after a day on the road and many more miles to go. The food was above average, and it tasted like someone preparing it cared about what they were doing. A nice surprise these days. Doesn't look like much, just a little diner in a town in the middle of nowhere Nevada in the back of a mini gambling hall but its was so worth the stop. Had been driving all day lasting on snacks, it was dinner time but they serve breakfast all day, lucky me! Got an omelet with extra cheese n bacon and a week later I cannot get that omelet out of my mind I will have to go back it was so amazing! Not to mention the service was superb! We had a great experience here. Our server, Elora told us she was new, but she did a fabulous job. She was quick, attentive, and our orders were right! I felt badly because we came in with only about 45 minutes before they closed and I could tell they were cleaning up, but we had just gotten off the road and there was no where else to go. Wow, where do I start. Zoe was amazing, greeted with a big ol' smile. I couldn't have asked for more. I travel down the interstate quite often and this is a go - to stop for me. But this was extra special. The cooks name, I believe, was hunter, and not only did he look professional but the food was exceptional. We were put off at first- there was only one server, it was busy and it took her a long time to acknowledge that we were waiting for a table. She apologized later, and was really nice and efficient. I ordered a traditional breakfast with biscuit and turkey sausage. Eggs and hash browns were cooked perfectly but the sausage was two thin, dry disks. My Hubbs had the Steerburger and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Coffee was on the weak side - unusual for a truck stop! Stay away from the turkey sausage and you will be fine. read more

If you are in dire need for food and don't mind the smell of smoke and sadness, this place might barely work. We were welcomed by some metal statues of what looked to be characters representing Mexican heritage and thought they might have Mexican food. We then waited an excessive amount of time while watching the only poor waitress running around frantic. She got to us and seated us and grabbed our drink order while helping the entire dining room by herself. While waiting we noticed what seemed to be the manager pop in and out to give the waitress a hard time while helping no one herself. I even think I saw another waitress slide though quickly again not helping at all. While waiting for our food we saw 2 parties walk up and wait to be seated, but waited so long that they all left. I'm so glad we found this spot in the town of Wells. It's a homey sit down restaurant with the quick service of a diner. They have what I thin is a perfectly varied menu with not too many options but enough to let you know that they're good at what they doo. The breakfast menu is all day and comes with sides of potatoes and toast-pancakes-or a biscuit. There was a good portion of everything but the food itself lacked a lot in seasoning. You'll definitely need to add salt/pepper, hot sauce, or ketchup to enjoy the meal. That being said the option Iron Skillet gives you of taking advantage of their HUGE salad bar (also has soup) is amazing considering fresh food options in the area. Waitstaff if very kind and welcoming, they made our experience enjoyable. Definitely check out Iron Skillet if you're passing through but maybe go with the dinner options that come with the soup and salad bar as well as one side. read more

Found creamer on an empty table and used my water straw to stir as we were also not given silverware. Pancakes came with no butter and again could not get the waitress. Food was only semi warm. $50 for two breakfasts and a kids burger for my dog. Was going to order just a burger Patty for the dog but it was $12. The butter on the cold toast was Dijon mustard yellow. Probably a good thing the cold pancakes did not have butter. This was on a Sunday and there was only 1 cook 1 waitress and 1 busser. Only three or four tables full when we were seated. After 40 minutes or more, our waitress came by with two plates of food that was not what we, nor apparently anyone else had ordered. She apologized, re-took our order and 15 or 20 minutes later, our meal arrived. The hash browns had been scraped off my plate. When questioned, the waitress admitted that the three people who arrived after us were dissatisfied with the way their hashbrowns were cooked, so they took them from my order, replated and served to the other guest. The waitress was busy, but she never once smiled. she chose to clear & clean tables before serving our breakfast, which was obviously sitting there awhile, because it was cold. My husbands over medium eggs were hard, my bacon was crispy on one end and under cooked on the other. Waitress never came back to refill coffee, yet gave the people next to us a pot. She never came back to ask how our meal was or if we needed anything, even after she delivered the food to the table next to us. We had to ask another waiter for our check. OK... this is a chain of diner's that go hand in hand with Petro Shopping Centers, so there really isn't much to expect in the first place. A good portion of the food is on a buffet table, but there are ala carte items on the menu that you can order. For Wells, NV, it really isn't that bad... there also isn't that much choice... there is a mexican restaurant down the way and another diner, but basically this town is mostly aimed at serving truckers coming through on I-80. I was staying across the street at one of the motels, and needed a bite to eat. I had had a large lunch that day, so I just needed something small. Fortunately they did have a small item on the menu in the form of a grilled cheese sandwich, which I can say was actually pretty good. It went down well, at least. The sandwich comes with soup, which you get from the salad bar. The choices that night were a ham chowder and (I believe) a beef stew kind of thing. I went with the chowder, which is not something I would normally go for, but it was alright. At least it was something that had flavor that I could dunk my sandwich into. If you are in Wells for the night, you can certainly pick up a bite to eat here, but if you are just cruising through, perhaps stay on the road for another half hour and pick something up in Wendover or Elba. read more

She rudely asked why we couldn't have sat at the booth she first took us to. Our concern was sitting too close to the other customers. We decided not to stay. As we walked out she told us to enjoy our breakfast at McDonalds. I requested her manager and she walked to the back and said I refuse to serve this bitch. The good: It's a good option for when you are passing through Wells for breakfast. But I wish I had more breakfast options than this. The bad: I ordered some tea for breakfast and I got iced tea, not hot tea. They need to do better because I have never had that problem at any other breakfast place. The ugly: It's inside a casino and it's not obvious where it is. They need markers on the floor or signs to point you in the right direction, like other places in Nevada do with their casinos. I usually start a review with a compliment.... I can say my husband ate all his food? We were so hungry, been on the road all day, decided to order an appetizer. We got chips and queso. Chips were OK, the queso was runny and tastless. The food does not come out looking like the pictures. My chicken and dumpling soup was mostly dumplings, I found a couple veggies and one piece of chicken, it was not something I would ever order again. There was a special that caught my eye, it was something I rarely eat because it's not a very healthy choice. I got the grilled hot dog with Mac and cheese, it was edible. My husband had a green salad, it was very fresh looking with some extras! He also ordered the chicken fried steak dinner. We have had it here a few years ago, it was much better then! I will say my food was pretty good and I enjoyed it, but we were seated and waited for a very long time for our food and watched two other tables get their food that were seated after us. Stopped in about 1500 hrs for early light dinner whilst traveling. Ordered a chicken Caesar type salad from the menu and was able to do a few minor substitutions. We had their broccoli cheddar soup also and it was very good. Server Alma was prompt and readily accommodated my minor substitutions. She was friendly and ensured our food was to our satisfaction. Traveling during the pandemic is sad when it comes to eating. This place is an example but was only place that offered dine-in in the area. You have to walk though a dark smoky casino to get to it. Looks like pre-pandemic they offered a large salad bar but now no longer available. Tables were set apart, waitress was masked, no music in background, everyone eating in silence and only one waitress for the entire place (at least 12 active tables). Atmosphere was depressing! You have to walk through a smoke filled casino to find the diner and the food was sup par at best. Sausage patties burned on the outside and near raw in the middle. Buffalo cauliflower just thrown in a bowl and microwaved for a few seconds do the bowl was hot but cauliflower was cold and mushy. Asked them to toss it on the grill for a minute and it came back just hotter from the microwave and still wet and mushy. Fiesta salad was just a bunch iceberg lettuce with a few black beans, cucumber slices, and green pepper bits along with a few cherry tomatoes thrown on top. Served with crispy fried chicken slices on top that were cold. Supposed to be spicey sauce on top but couldn't taste it.
