Visiting in Waconia for the week, gotta say this will definitely be a place to remember and come back to. While I didn't try ALL of the beer they beer special with the Modist First Call was a great choice. It is a blonde ale but definitely had what I call some "grassy,weedy" notes. I enjoyed the beer but like wine, tastes are subjective and I always say "don't knock it until you try it." (Original I know). I enjoyed the Fish Monger special which was a grilled salmon with an artichoke based white sauce tossed with linguini, fresh tomatoes and fresh spinach. food was delicious. Creamy noodles, flaky, expertly grilled fish with a flavorful bite. Staff are very respectful and very nice waitstaff. We never waited on refills and she sold me on the special! Atmosphere was very good. Not quiet and not too loud I could definitely have a conversation going with my party. Music selection was great! From the Beatles to Alice In Chains. 5 stars is difficult to achieve, however this spot has a lot of good going on & passion behind it (which is difficult to find these days)! Excellently crafted cocktails with a very passionate bartender - Chase (old fashioned, northern lights). Every food item (despite a busy restaurant) came out hot and tasted absolutely delicious - including the loaded fries, adult grilled cheese (coleslaw is so good!), kabobs & pork chops (huge portion!). The atmosphere was cozy yet vibrant & right in the heart of downtown. We will definitely be back to enjoy more cocktails & try a variety of other dishes! What a gem! read more

Chill atmosphere and ambiance that makes you feel like socializing over great food and beer selections. Pork nachos and fried cheese curds were excellent appetizers. The curds were unique and melted in my mouth and were not greasy like most fried cheese curds. The Big Tom beef brisket sandwich was my favorite but the sweet potato fries were incredible. Iron Tap is coasting. I used to really enjoy coming here, but now the only thing that I can order that is reliably good is the backyard pizza. This also happens to be one of the more appropriately priced menu items. The other house specials waver in quality and often have my questioning the selection of them as their highlighted menu options. Last night I ordered the Iron Tap burger, which I once upon a time claimed was almost as good as the burgers that my dad can make. Yesterday it tasted like I ordered it from my hospital's cafeteria. The dry bun killed whatever moisture there might have been in the burger, the vegetables were anemic, and the fries were unremarkable. I was extra disappointed considering that this burger was $14, for that price I should have to exhibit remarkable self control in order to prevent myself from devouring it in a frenzy. Service was also inattentive considering that it wasn't very busy for the majority of our visit. My water glass was refilled once, and that was it. I ended up draining my refill and my husband's water glass and these were never acknowledged ever again. The server never asked the standard "how was everything" line. I used to be a server, this simple mindless line should be asked at least once even if the server does not really care what the answer is. I am too Minnesota mild to bring up my dissatisfaction with food unless asked this question, and I was going to use this opportunity to bring up the lackluster food. Instead we were promptly handed the bill when we indicated we were done. Bummer. read more

Four of us visited on Nov 21, 2019. Two of us visited twice before. We REALLY want to like this place but it is not going to happen. We were seated in the porch area. It's not well heated, so we kept our coats on. One woman at an adjacent table even kept her hat on. The service was, in fact, pretty darned good. The beer selection: great. The show stopper: Two of us had walleye. It was over-fried in OLD oil. That means brittle and dark and chewy. Rather than send it back and ruin all 4 meals, we sucked it up and chewed it down. I called later that week to complain (remember, we want good restaurants in the area) and was basically told it was OUR fault for not sending the food back, and of course it's cold out there on the porch. I agree with the previous 3 star review. A tad overpriced on some things. My wife had the Chardonnay at $14. Ok, I've paid that before, but the pour was unacceptably small. Beer list is pretty solid. I'd add a session IPA, especially with all the summer drinkers around Waconia. We had a bacon wrapped jalepeno appetizer. Very underwhelmed. There was no heat, the cream cheese was watered down and flavorless. The only flavor that stood out was a liquid smoke that left me reeling. Too much fake smoke. The decor and ambience was spot on. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgable. We need this place to succeed, but they need some fine tuning yet. read more

I wish I had better info to report, but I am dissapointed. First, the chairs. These have to be what chairs are in Hell. So uncomfortable I couldn't sit any longer and had to wait outside for my hubby to pay the bill. This brings me to point 2. Service was great getting seated, but then it got busy and with only two waitresses, service suffers. We found out AFTER we ordered that there were nightly specials, but it was from the waitress serving the table behind us. On the positive side, the food was good, the beer recommendations were great and the decor was cute and quaint. I would love to try this place again because I really want the small town business to win. If there is new seating, I'd give it another go. read more

I gave this place another shot because I really want to it to succeed and to like it, unfortunately it got worse then the first time. I'll start with the good, it's really cute inside with a great patio and the food is decent. It's the service that's really bad. They have an amazing beer menu but no on to explain what the beers are. Our waitress was too young to drink but she didn't even offer to ask someone to explain the beers to us. The owner was behind the bar and actually looked at our table while the waitress was asking questions about the beer and the wine he was not busy and couldn't be bothered to come over and talk to us or help the poor girl out. Also all the wines are Minnesota wines most of which I've never heard of again when I asked no one would explain or give me a taste. They told me the wine I was looking at was like a sauvignon blanc but tasted nothing like it. The staff is poorly trained, the owner doesn't seem to care about the customers. I live in the Waconia area and the Iron Tap is hands-down my favorite restaurant. They have a friendly, fun, and attentive staff, a fantastic and varied menu, and one of the best craft beer selections in the state. My wife and I visit here often. I was there as a guest of a local resident, we were not impressed. My family member(s) had been there before and thought it would be good to go again - wrong. As the owner reads this - and I know you are because you depend on positive ratings for your business. The atmosphere and set up - you get an A! Very quaint and hometown feeling. You did ok with this area. On service - well you just plain suck. There were two questions that came from our large table (let's call it more then 4 people) that should have raised enough flags to the manager that he "should" have come over to see us. He (yes, I am positive he was the manager) was too busy sucking down "smart water" and nursing his bottle to come and talk to us. The two questions involved some basic flexibility on your menu and a question on the charges. First question - your staff (and maybe it was you) refused to budge from exactly what the menu said. I even offered to pay extra for a very simple change - I asked twice, your waitstaff flat out refused. I was told you are " very strict on what you offer on your menu". Second question - I asked about a common pricing issue that 50% of the eating establishments in this country offer - when the waitstaff inquired, the very first reaction was an eye roll from your manager and the body language spoke "are you kidding?" He barely allowed it but his body language told me he was bothered by the question. Not sure if it was the subject of the question or if it was because he had to put his smart water down. Anyway - the other members of our party made the unsolicited statement on the way out the door "I was not impressed tonight". I am being a little vague (but very factual) because the town is small and the people I was with are known in the town. I did NOT get a good value for my money a few nights ago / the next time I am in town, I am not sure I would come back. A solution for you - if your waitstaff comes with a small change or request and it will not adversely impact your cost of good sold, you should comply! Half of your customers satisfaction is their experience. As for your smart water drinking, eye rolling, non-social manager - well, I don't need to tell you how to handle him. Again - food was decent, atmosphere was good, your customer experience and service needs some serious change. Your "lounge window" window says Established in 2017, if you want all three of your business parts (lounge, main room, and ice cream shop) to keep going into 2018 - you want to work on your main source of income - the customer! read more

Went here for the first time! The service was quick and knowledgeable. We started with cheese curds and Brussels sprouts. Both were incredible! The cheese curds weren't greasy, but were perfect. Followed by the jam burger, which was delicious! Which I would love to go back for again. My 2 year old son loved their cheese quesadilla and French fries. Overall, a great experience. A very fine restaurant. There was excellent food with stellar service. The only problem was that the table was wobbly. I put my elbow on the table and my damn drink spilled. Really?
